    Thank you for this! I started doing something similar to the pattern you did in this video two days back (with dbl kick as I am new to the discipline of dbl kick, going on for 3 weeks now) and wondered if it was worth the effort. The answer is yes! And you helped reinforce this focused practice session for maximum benefit, instead of doing endless, countless beat permutations, which ultimately get lost and aimless.

    It would be sweet if you could make a video on and about your set up for your pedals! Like going through how they are set up with your specs for the spring tension, how the footboard is angled, how far your pedals are away from each other, and all of that goodness. I know everyone is different and sets theirs up to fit them best, but if you have any comments or pointers that could make the drumming more efficient then that would be awesome. Oh yea, and great video! Keep up the great work!

    I played about 6 months on a single while I saved for a double pedal and jumped into it lol two songs that REALLY helped me out and is still my go to warm ups is waking the demon and then later on beast and the harlot. Waking the demon really got me going when I started with double bass because the pedal work isn't too complicated

    I had the opposite problem, to add double later and be in problem: Ï bought a double pedal like you, very early on. And so what happened I came too reliant on that double pedal and really forgot to practice with single pedal. Later on it came an issue. So to remind everyone, don't make the same mistake. My advice is to learn both. Right single, left as single, and then both. So if you have started with doubles, try to develop the singles, and if you did now buy doubles later on, don't forget to practice singles as well!

    Drummer of slightly over 20 years just wanted to throw out there to anyone that another less "repetitive practice" way to get your left up to speed (or at least to where youre comfortable with it and it matches your right foots capabilities) that I found fun is to play any single kick songs you like to play along to but play with just your left foot. Not only does it break the repetitive practice cuz your playing different songs that you'd normally want to play anyways for fun but it trains your left as well forcing it to do what your right is already used to doin and at first just like this pyramid it'll prob be hard or you'll miss a few notes or sound sloppy or out of time but in time you'll slowly start to find it easier and sounding better and once at that level of comfortability your left will be able to mimic anything your right can do therefore double bass should be no prob other than just learning the technics such as hell-toe and whatnot. Just wanted to share!

    • @chansemorris866
      @chansemorris866 Рік тому

      Also if you are super dead serious about it another thing I've done is get your fav pedals and a pad and while you are sitting for hours watching TV or playing your video games have those feet steadily moving it's not something you have to put focus into all the time so by doin this for a few hours at a time whilst watchin TV or playing next time you sit behind the kit your feet will subconsciously be doin stuff you didn't even know you could do. Sounds silly but it works

  • @tazchapman692
    @tazchapman692 5 років тому +2

    I think exercise 1 is amazing. It is incredibly. But one thing i've always thought and been taught is to not practice speeding up like that. It causes your internal metronome not be able to stay consistent. As you want to be as stable as possible without that metronome. But just my thoughts, i don't want any newer drummers running into issues with that.

    • @levelont5560
      @levelont5560 5 років тому

      Great point! You can always modify the exercise to do the sub-division changes after n bars instead of just one. That way you practice both the sub-division changes and stability within a particular sub-division value (;

    Hi Wyatt, I have a question about a specific issue that I'm struggling with and it's my feet and lower leg muscles twitching uncontrollably, starting at around 150 bpm. How do you get rid of that, did you ever experience that ? And if so, how long did it take you to get rid of it ? So it's a really fast sort of spastic twitch, but without any control whatsoever.

    what is the technique that you use for playing at 170 bpm for example ? I always used the ankle motion but I have a pearl demon drive since yesterday and I lose the control under 170 bpm (I had an old millenium for 3 years I saw death at each training 😂 )

      I dont use ankle at all.... I really should tho. I am trying to learn it. It is really hard for me right now because I play with such power.. most of my leg motion comes from my thighs

    i am doing these at 85 bpm. slow but i am doing them, and i feel like i am making good progress in just one day.. i started at 70, i could not do 80 at the start of my practice. i was able to go up 15 bpm so not bad i guess.

    This is such a useful lesson! How long did it take you to master the double pedal or get to a professional standard? I’ve been playing with a double pedal for about 3 years now and I can only play 16th notes at about 175 bpm, that’s why I was shocked to hear Gabe managed it in 5 weeks😂 is this the level I should be at after 2 ish years or am I just not built for the double pedal?

    • @dohmsdek463
      @dohmsdek463 5 років тому +1

      Heyo dude! I also played a long time with the wrong technique on the double bass. Then after years of not playing it felt like to learn to walk again. Now, after about 4 months daily 2-4 hours practice, I m on a good Level, but it would take Lots more time to get there where I wanted to be. So try different techniques and find the one that feels comfortable for you to play, Master it and get to the next one. So I Do and i cant complain about the progress. Greets from Germany!

      If you're practicing this at home with your own metronome and starting out at 130 bpm then I can imagine why it seems so hard. 130 is fast and he's actually only playing at 65 bpm in that first exercise, and 100 in the second.

    • @WyattStav
      @WyattStav  5 років тому +1

      ARMYStrongHOOAH17 that’s incorrect. I list the note values at 7:57. If what you were saying is true then I wouldn’t be using the note values I assigned. I max the pyramid at 16ths. So the tempo values I gave were exact. No need to half. The reason you may be stating this is because my hands are in half time feel... and this was intentional because it makes it easier for newer players to tackle the tuplet sections. After all this FEET... so the focus is footwork,. Not on the hand placement.
