I think realizing that UA-cam is a long game and that these videos are investments is truly the difference between successful content creators and non successful ones
This is the first time I have seen someone who had done this too without BS and beating around the bush only to censor the revenue in the end. Gotta love the guy for this
I agree! I’ve spent so much time looking at other videos to see how UA-cam works and after looking at this video I got all of my thoughts and questions answered. It was very helpful!
Just something I noticed in the video. MKBHD said it took him 5 months and 200 videos. That means he averaged MORE THAN A VIDEO A DAY. He made 200 videos in about 150 days. It doesn't just take time. It takes a whole lot of work and dedication.
What I love about this video is that it literally tells you in the first 10 seconds how much he made. If it was guarded until I'm 70% through, I'd click away as soon as I find out, but being told immediately makes me think it must not be the most valuable part of the video - maybe some tips will follow. So I keep watching. Brilliant.
I have been trying to start my UA-cam channel for over 2 years. Any time I watch Ali’s videos, I tell myself “I’m going to start” I got to stop procrastinating. Thanks for your sharing, Ali!
You never failed to inspire me. You know, Ali. I don't want to be rich. I just want to be financially freedom and buy things without thinking twice. I hope I can stay consistent and not being too picky about my journey. Thanks Ali!
Being able to buy things without thinking twice is already considered rich. Able to put food on the table and not worry about household bills is more practical.
Thinking of each video as an investment and digital asset is pretty cool. A lot of my top earning content is 1-2+ yr old content. Playing the long game 💪
It baffles me every time how you can speak so fast, make so much sense and be entertaining at the same time. It’s like someone presses a button and say “go!” And you don’t stop to take a breath until you’re done. Absolutely brilliant. I’d literally pay to watch this video! Too valuable!! Thank you Ali❤
Comparing a UA-cam video to real-estate in the UK blows my mind... Mrbearst spent 3.5 on a UA-cam video.... This platform deserves all the praise it has gotten.
This is is so insightful am on the second month with my UA-cam channel and I was starting to feel low why it's not growing but watching this has motivated me to continue creating content.
Bro, big respect, just 5 years, and you got 3. Something millions subscribe to. I have my channel the same time you have your own, and I'm still only 300 views.
I made a comment on the last video on how the video was overproduced and overstimulating, this video is literally the remedy. This is peak Ali Abdaal energy, his strength is in the camera presence and I don't think he needs all these editing cues at all.
I've been making videos for YEARS and I'm growing at a seemingly slow pace. Are my videos just not good enough, not interesting enough, bad SEO, something else, or a combination? Feels like I've been working the last 3+ years for nothing. Don't get me wrong, I love the process, but sometimes it's easy to lose motivation when I'm not rewarded for my work. Any thoughts?
Thank you for putting yourself out there and being so transparent Ali it means the world to people who are also pursuing their dreams. For those of you starting your own UA-cam channel, you are not alone! Believe in yourself! 🙌
Hi Ali, I started my youtube channel about a year ago and I knew nothing about editing. I’ve been watching your videos for awhile and I ended up joining the skill share course where you teach us how to edit on final cut pro. After finishing that course I posted my first ever video on this youtube channel. After trying a bunch of niches and making 40+ videos in over a year (most of them are unlisted now) I finally got a viral video that changed my channel and possibly my life forever. I went from 200 to 12k subscribers in 2 weeks and I just wanted to say thank you for giving me the skills needed to make valuable videos to people around the world.
"Every good thing in life benefits from compounding. The more effort you put into something over a long period of time, the more likely it is to return results." Wise words, Ali 🙏🏽so true about targeting people who own businesses because they have the money to spend on your product/services.
It has been exactly one year ( 21st of July) since Ali recommended me to start a UA-cam channel and After one year of experience I can say that 1. make more videos ( 3 times at least) 2. you don't need to edit Fancy stuff at first, just record and upload as a unfiltered video which is kind of trending right now 3. make videos on short easy topics topics that you already know, don't ever do what I had done which is that making videos on topics that you still don't know and are researching continuously about that. so talk about stuff that you already know 4. don't make very big type of videos at first like my whole productivity system don't make videos like that at first start with small video ideas like ( the feature I love the most about notion ) 5. don't worry about production quality, the audio and video both are really good in smartphones record in a quiet environment and ideally the best video quality you would get is actually from the windows.. remember ( brighter image equal to sharper image) that means the more light you have the better your videos will be. shoot videos outdoors And it takes time so don't give up
I don't do UA-cam videos. But the inspiration, ideas, and advise from Ali apply to many other media and entrepreneurial business efforts. Thanks for posting.
Thanks Ali for sharing your journey! You inspire so many of us. I started my channel teaching Chinese recently. Also taking you and your team’s part-time UA-cam academy courses and learning so much from it. I’m committed to this journey of creating content. I believe in consistent efforts over time. Hope to make impact for my audience and for myself along the way.
in the days revenues were like $1 per thousand views i find it insane that now its like 20/30/40 sometimes and yet some UA-camrs still complain sometimes
I love the way Ali explained that even his videos got 22/23 views in the beginning😮 coz it’s difficult to get much traction in the beginning and it can be very discouraging
I'm just at the very start of the youtube journey and I'm finding it quite difficult to generate a script and actually record myself... but every time I struggle and feel down, I watch one of your videos and it gives me the positive affirmation to try and keep going and see where it goes. As we say in German: "Wer nicht wagt, der nicht gewinnt" - "He who does not try, will not win"
so i am an unemployed IT engineer with 25 years experience in the enteprise, cant get new work. i started a youtube channel and just need to belt out videos on topics in my field ? i am 770 subscribers, and 497.500 views per month, short to be able to pay my rent. not complaining just trying to fix my problem of no source of income. just wondering if 2 video's per week would speed things up or if it doesnt matter if you do 1 video per week but yt looks at consistent upload per week over a longer period, lets say a year.
Videos like this are always greatly appreciated because it helps to give us perspective on what being a successful content creator really takes. No fluff, real effort, and dedication. I appreciate content like this the most. Thanks for sharing Ali!
This is so motivating and you are such a compelling speaker! Loved it so much, and it’s very comforting to hear that even videos that don’t perform right away can pay off in the long term!
The algorithm did a good job. Great discovery! Subscribed button pushed😉 Thank you to be transparent and clear with all the stats and numbers. Patience and persistence are the keys : UA-cam, business, investments, sport,... Merci, Ali !
Amazing video and breakdown, Ali! I'm getting a ton out of this. Thanks for always being super open and transparent about these figures. Motivational with no bs 💪
Thanks Ali, that was very useful and really focused the mind! I am sure this will eventually be one of you high earners too, great stuff, thanks again!
Thank you for being so transparent about these numbers, Ali. That is still a ton of money and it's especially good to know that videos can take off, even months later. Some youtube experts claim that it's the first 24 hours that are important and if your video doesn't perform within the first 24 hours, nothing is going to happen with it. So thanks again.

yes, can you imagine how much ROI he expects from it in return? The same when he gives away $10K. Those videos make him a lot more than that.
It’s interesting how much the CPM rate varies by creator. I have a video with over 2 million views and it made me $32,000

In reality: 10 years on UA-cam, 60k views per month = £400 to £500 per month.
Curious to know, how are you going now, in 2024?
Thats the reality for the majority of us youtubers
It's not just the videos that grew. It's your personality and willingness to share altogether. Less than halfway through your video I subscribed.
