Edit: I've been made aware that CIG has updated their position on this ship & given 4s4 guns to the pilot when running a lighter crew! Unfortunately, this info change happened while I was editing - so I didn't hear it until AFTER I published the video.
How could they even do that immediately, like are they not thinking at all?? Lol what does that mean when there are gunners that they only get to shoot straight forward? They look like they're mounted and not moveable...
No - when crew are present, the guns are able to be turned in various angles.. I think it is dumb that they pushed it out the door the way they first did.
Great video! Of note CIG went into damage control mode over the uproar about the lack of any pilot-controlled guns and they just released a revised Paladin sales page. The 4 size 4 guns on the sides can now be either pilot-controlled or crewed. Though when pilot-controlled they will only fire forward, when crewed the weapon coverage increases as they act as turrets.
I think as players we need to be conscious of the universes lore within the game. The Paladin is designed around a use case for the UEEN and would be designed to work as part of a task group for specific misison profiles. The SL-TAC is designed around a corporate use case most likely for corporate security forces responding to emergencies threatening their assets. If you keep in mind what background each ship has its easier to understand its role with players. The Paladin is designed for orgs that have th emanpower to field forces like the UEEN wherase the SL-TAC is more geared for small groups of players doing mercenary type missions.
The dual s4 mounts can be used by the pilot as stated on the store page: " Each turret hardpoint can be manned by a dedicated crew member, allowing the pilot to focus solely on flying while gunners maintain pinpoint accuracy. When operating with a smaller crew, the pilot can take direct control of the wing turrets, ensuring no defensive position is left unmanned"
@@qdaniele97 The popular uproar only worked because they're still trying to sell it. The uproar doesn't seem to be doing much for the corsair nerf, but that's not surprising since that was also to sell the Paladin.
@@qdaniele97 Yeah, and unfortunately that changed happened while I was editing/publishing the video... Literally didn't hear about it until after I published it >.
With the ability to slave the side turrets to the pilot, this will be like the turtle version of the scorpius. Could be loads of fun. Lack of any cargo is a little bit of a downer. Considering the attention given to living space, I hope it can at least travel out on multi day missions before needing to refuel.
Unfortunately, as the current components are listed, it looks like it'll have a shorter travel capacity than the redeemer. But this is subject to change for sure!
@ yeah that’s sort of why I said it, though I suppose this may be intentional as these gunships might be intended as part of a larger battle group where there will be a refueling ship nearby. I suppose if it had long legs and cargo it would fast become a pirate ship.
I think it'll handle itself just fine in all of those scenarios.. but it can definitely handle ERT's - even solo,. I only confidently say this because I do ERT's solo in the Starlancer max all the time. And I presume this is going to be a bit more maneuverable than the max.
@@ForgeCoreGaming Oh yeah if it arrived today I think it would shred. I say light bounty hunting its because I dont know how BH will evolve. I did, what I always do when I like the idea of a concept ship. I buy the cheapest CCU to it that I can from a ship in my normal CCU chains. If there is a war bond CCU upgrade, I get that. For the TAC and for this there was not that option so I just used store credit. I also occasionally buy whatever cheap CCU token they come out with so that anything that I have via CCU will have lifetime insurance.
@@ForgeCoreGaming I look at the CCU game as entirely speculative anyway, so I expect to win some and lose some with strategy and knowledge putting me well ahead long term. So I have CCUs that have gone way, WAY up in value, others that have dropped. Overall I'm way ahead, and I never apply CCUs till the target is actually in game, that way I can compensate for losses.
Personally, I picked one up as a convoy escort. As someone mainly interested in hauling I like the look of this thing as an escort for larger freighters like the Ironclad or Hull D that make up the larger end of my fleet. With this in mind, and the fact that I think the ship looks incredibly cool, I'm keeping one on strength as an escort ship I can fly myself or leave in the hands of org mates
It looks great and i will upgrade my aegis vanguard warden to anvil paladin because warden was inefficient during some overdrive and xenothreat missions in terms of firepower and durability.
On the first floor layout there is a section of interior not shown. The stairs are in the center and shown is lots of room around them on the port side. I wonder what is on the starboard side?
I just bought an upgrade so i can decide later, having it as an escort for my polaris might be an option or as an ground attack craft with the movable S5 turret, i just wait and see how it is later, i don't really like having no pilot weapons though
Well… CIG doing CIG as far as the S4 guns and pilot control goes. I swear they either have the worst internal communications between devs and marketing, or they just push ships forward without thinking! 😂
Lol yeah, my guess is that they fully intended on releasing it without pilot controlled guns.. then when the outrage occurred, they started to backpedal.
Cool ship, love the design... But even as a combat junkie i cant justify pledging one without any cargo, vehicle, medical or other gameplay options. Tac it is, for now. Will likely earn in game.
Cool ship but it’s OP…. Pilot should not have firepower for how strong this ship is for its size…. But I guess it gets the 4 S4’s the side turret gunners use, unless it’s manned. So with a crew of fking two…. You get 4x S4 and 4 xS5 What The Fuck’!? Maybe 3 with an engineer.. anyone running 4-5 in this ship is dumb just fly two of these with 2-4 crew per one.
I smell a potential nerf incoming - though it's a purpose built ship - so it has to have a leg up over the competition in some way or another. If it stays this way, and flies decently well - then my redeemer may have just been kicked off the roster
If they keep the maneuverability fairly low, it will be difficult for the pilot to bring those S4s to bear on most fighters. A Hurricane might still perform better.
@ that’s a fair point. We will have to see. My vanguard I melted flies like a constellation with less shields and less guns. My Starlancer flies like a Carrack/Polaris. I’m sure it will get reigned in but will be a pain until then.
@@ForgeCoreGaming good point other ships its size do get some cargo. I really like the idea of it. I’ll probably go with the Starlancer Tac myself for the extra multi purpose. It will be harder for me to crew and the Paladin may destroy the Tac but I’ll keep an open mind to changing the “fleet”.
I didn't buy the ship but I do wonder what purpose and benefit having suit lockers over cargo serves a ship like the Paladin. No cargo would make running ballistics questionable. I hope the Paladin has huge hydrogen fuel tanks, otherwise it wont be able to loiter over the battlefield for long.
Currently it's travel range will be slightly less than the redeemer. And yeah - I tend not to run ballistics on ships at all. I hate having to go back for ammo.. and in Pyro you aren't guaranteed a place to do so.
The Paladin’s definitely a purpose-built ship, and the fact it can move its main guns lets it clear the ground, then land & set up all its firepower to focus on the sky.

I wouldn't say it's a big ship.. It's barely longer than a redeemer. Albeit - I get why that was the original decision.. it boils down to use case, I believe. But in defense of those who do get upset - not everyone likes to fly fighters. Personally, I only own one - and though I enjoy it, I prefer ships around the Redeemer size.. But I do like to engage in combat. Everyone has a different reason & preferred way to play the game :)
@ForgeCoreGaming ships of this size are not meant to be flown solo thats just facts, if those who dont like fighters they should be sitting ducks not every ship needs pilot weapons, if they dont want to be sitting ducks learn to like fighters or dont fly this kind of ship as a daily its not meant to be a daily without a crew
@@Motobro699 I get your stance on the matter, trust me - I do. But the game design will sort that out with engineering. But I wouldn't make the claim that a multicrew ship should be useless without a crew - I would claim that a ship that's intended to have a crew should be far less effective when it isn't. And those that are meant to be piloted solo would have the advantage over an undercrewed multicrew ship. That's the compromise they're setting up. And it seems fair.
