There seems to be a visual artifact in some of the video text - this happened during export & processing... and unfortunately, I didn't catch it. Sorry about that!
2013 backer here. Last I heard from CIG was that they were going to slow down to quarterly updates from I don't know how many years ago. Checking out the PU since September though with the frequent updates gives the impression that they are actually progressing, especially with the Idris out.
I really hope when 4.0 comes out, we will see developement on the game ramp up as server meshing seems to be the bottle neck at the moment, i must add though, the jump points are amazing to go through its so immersive and the music and sound really make it all feel real... its very impressive to say the least.
@@ForgeCoreGaming yeah 4.0 is rough in the ptu at the moment but its getting there, i think worse case senorio it will be in open ptu end of the year, but hopefully it hits live and is pretty stable.
No. Get 4.0 OUT. Core tech needs to be pushed out, out, out. 3.18 was a dumpster fire at live. BUT, it was working pretty good during PTU! A live environment will break things that you never anticipated. So to those thinking, "Get everything working perfectly, then release it" are just living in a fantasy. The real world doesn't work like that. Same goes with Master Modes. Release it, see where it breaks or what people hate. Respond quickly. Things like fire? Wait for that to be in a good spot. But any fundamental tech should be put in players hands ASAP in any live alpha. 4.0 will have lots of problems. It's a guarantee. Fix it quickly so we can enjoy a good 4.0.2.
Agreed, it needs to be out in the wild so we can hammer it. It's going to hurt, it'll be bumpy but until it's on live they cant deal with all the weird stuff that running in the full environment brings
agree, 3.18 worked amazing, it was the best PTU ever, persistency was over the top, with EVERYTHING persisting EVERYWHERE, and then release date come lol
CR/Marketing will push 4.0 out the door by xmas regardless of if its ready or not. Good chance it wil be a train wreck but thats a normal release anyway.
I feel like there are more things that can break this time around.. you thought borked hangers & elevators were bad? Wait'll you get stuck in pyro because the jump gate is down & you have no way to call a ship.
Nice vid 👍. Subscribed. I would like to see them be more human about their mistakes, eg MM. It’s great that they listen, but there’s still that corporate feel of never admitting mistakes and just moving on with some positive language.
You're definitely right. What corporations tend to miss is that people don't like feeling like they're being lied to. As you stated - treat us like people. Overall though, I love how the game is shaping up.
@ yeah, me too. I backed in 2013 & have followed it weekly since. Grew up back in the Wing Commander days. 4.0 is a crucial jump in the tech. We’re all waiting for it. I tried to play last night to see if I could do phase 1, but it ground down to 3-4 frames per minute & then crashed. IEA time. We really really need that server meshing, though it surprises me they don’t/can’t spin up more servers when there’s a lot more load. (Maybe part of the infrastructure isn’t scalable).
@@beny9360 I suspect that CIG doesn't have quite enough servers to go around. So when they have PTU & EPTU going they take from the available servers for PU and attribute them to the PTU. Couple that with IAE & Free Fly, yeah server performance has been kinda low. IDK where you are in the world, but when "Best" doesn't work for me (which would be U.S.) I go to EU servers. Those tend to work pretty well for me - not sure why.
@ I’m in the UK. Maybe I should hop over to the US servers. Timezone thing perhaps. I thought SC was cloud based in Amazon’s cloud? I’m a Cloud Engineer (but on Googles cloud). With the cloud it’s about how much you’re willing to spend, unless parts of their backend don’t scale maybe - meaning it doesn’t matter how many servers they throw at it. You may be right. Perhaps they have a total monthly server budget they don’t allow themselves to go over & its shared between PU, PTU & ePTU. Wouldn’t surprise me if it’s like that on a normal month. But does surprise me for free flys & IEA etc. if they could just throw more severs at it and it would work then I’d be doing that for the events where public interest peaks. Strange they don’t seem to. Suggests to me that the game can’t scale by using more severs. Then again server meshing sounds like it’d be exactly the solution to that and they’ve made the game/code for server meshing so from that perspective of course it won’t work well until it’s in. Roll on 4.0 hey!
I think it needs to release while they also still have time to do bug fixing for it before the holidays. Until it goes live it’ll never really be ready, it’s like that with any patch.
I'd be fine with it coming after the holiday if it meant it was in a better state though. The issue is that they rush pushing things out for the purpose of meeting deadlines. There are several levels with respect to states of readiness. And they have a tendency to publish far earlier than when they should.
I think 4.0 will release, and it will be buggy, but not super broken. They're just cutting anything that's not done enough yet and they'll roll it in later. The way we're seeing the PTU patches release, they're clearly working hard at getting it ready, and also only rolling features into it gradually. Like, if the missions aren't ready, they won't be there! But they are clearly trying to get them done.
I agree.. they're bustin butt over there. Selfishly, I won't be joining any PTU for 4.0, as I'd like it to still be "new to me" when it hits the PU. The entirety of my org has signed on for that as well. So when it gets here, we'll be able to go out as a group and have new experiences together.
I think a lot of noise from the rage farmers comes from the mistaken idea this is a complete game. I want to believe in CIG’s vision, but it’s hard with tainted cynicism from past experience. CIG has a tradition of bad communication, but they do communicate, and often for the betterment of the game. I suspect 4.0 will break once live, but it has to have a full load of players to really test it. For now I have a couple,e other games to play and hope for the best!
I'm in the middle on this, 4.0 needs to release at least close to the announced target. Saying that, I also believe releasing to Live will break a great many things in game and that this is an important part of the development process for Star Citizen. (I'm not a developer either) But you took the words out of my mouth Forge Core, there's nothing else like this game. The ambition of the project and the scope of what's already here is so incredible. I too believe in the project and will continue to play and fund (in the limited way my budget allows) this SC. Hoping for the best this coming year because I would love to get some buddies on board as well. And the typical instability of the game turns many people off. Thanks for another interesting video.
@@ForgeCoreGaming Same here for sure. My patience isn't endless but I expect it to be a bit chunky till they fix the inevitable bugs from going to live. I'm hopeful that the pain I already personally felt from the transition to the 4.0 code base is the worst of it. Heh good luck on that. :p
@@ForgeCoreGaming Heh there was that but my main issue at 3.24.2 was being bed stuck. Was unplayable for me until they released 3.24.2a and I tried so many times. Still playing other things and that's what I did but as you said nothing scratches the itch of this game. So I beat my thick head against the walls of broken code for a bit there.
On one side I want 4.0 right away, but I'm also like, let them cook. I never got the controversy around master modes, all the changes and back and forth is how development works, they couldn't just theorise it and come up with a perfect balance out of thin air, this is what transparency is.
Personally, I don't ever complain about master modes, as its implementation predates when I ACTUALLY started investing time into playing the game. I originally played in 2017, but it was for a very short period. Since then (untli about 6 months ago), I was just a spectator. When I decided I wanted to give SC another shot, Master Modes was already in. I do, however, hear a ton of people discussing the issue often. I like to listen to all sides of the story... personally, I think Space Tomato has the most based perspective on it in the circle of main stream content creators for Star Citizen. But SaltEMike also has made good points. Namely, that the current version of Master Modes doesn't feel complete at all - and if it wasn't near what they intended, then they shouldn't have installed it. And that's evidenced by the fact that they're updating it in upcoming patches to "more reflect what they had in mind". Either way - the full picture hasn't been shown to us yet. We'll just have to wait and see.
My time is valuable to me so I don’t subscribe often. I listened to several of your videos before deciding to subscribe. I like your thoughtful approach to topics.

We gotta do a pyro expedition with the org when 4.0 drops!
We're going to! Perfect time to bust out a few Polares
8:26 it's a alpha, as soon as it's stable enough release candidate it will go to the main ptu..
Everything else was waffle.
Need to do it right, yes. Will they rush it and be sub par? Probably also yes. But here's to hoping for the best.

You know Q4 lasts until February of the next year, right? So saying they have less than a month is incorrect.
