Jane was the co-host of a TV chat show in San Francisco whom Slade met on their US tour. They wrote the song in about half an hour, "one of the easiest songs we ever recorded." The line, "Got a kick from her '40s trip boots" is a reference to her kicking Holder up the backside when the band were having a laugh at her expense. Jane had bought a pair of platform shoes which she called her "'40s trip boots," and somehow managed to lose them. "She thought they were original '40s shoes and she told us that she had paid a fortune for them," he said. "She was a real loony, a typical San Francisco hippy." My favourite Slade song is Coz I Love you. Hung in there Noddy we are thinking of you your loved . Peace out.
The band that kick started my interest in rock music when i saw them on tv in 1971, i was eight. The song was Coz I luv you... A wonderful record and it still buzzes me to this day.
That takes me back more than 50 years. TopPop was a popular Dutch weekly tv-program with the hit chart. I did not understand English yet, but in the midday pause at school we loudly sang this tune on the street in a quiet Dutch town.
Slade were a top rock band. Yeah they were classed as a pop band back in the day but they really rocked live......I saw them live a couple of times back in '73 and '74 and they were 👌 👏 👍. Awesome
This could’ve been one of 10 Slade hits and I would’ve said the same thing …Simply Awesome , and I know what I’m talking about - I was there !! ✊ 👍🏴
I remember one up and coming band were very influenced by Slade and also the New York Dolls so combined aspects of both bands and didn't look back - That band was KISS. Noddy Holder is considered to have one of the best rock voices ever still. You will notice with other Slade songs the spelling which is based on a phonetic spelling from the region of England were they came from - They spelt it the way they spoke it Gudbye T'Jane Cuz I Luv You Tak' Me Bak 'Ome Mama Weer All Crazee Now I Won’t let it ’appen agen Look Wot You Dun Skweeze Me Pleeze Me Cum On Feel The Noize Slade where from the England Midlands known as the Black Country ( Wolverhampton and Walsall) The Black Country - The Black Country gained its name in the mid nineteenth century due to the smoke from the many thousands of ironworking foundries and forges plus also the working of the shallow and 30ft thick coal seams. Slade always had bad luck when it came to breaking into the US market. Don Powell, the drummer, was involved in a serious car accident in 1973 where his fiancé sadly died and was not expected to make it himself. He was saved by an off-duty nurse who stopped and rendered first aid and whom he has never found out her name. Second Time in the early 1980's - Quite Riot had two major hits with Slade Songs - Mama Weer All Crazee Now and Cum On Feel The Noize So people became interested in Slade again. They were to support Ozzie Osborne on his major US Tour - played one show I think and Jim Lea ( Bass players and Co Song writer with Noddy Holder) fell ill with hepatitis C and had to return to England.
Slade had many many hits in the 70’2 and 80’s. Best live band ever. Been a fan since 1974 was even on stage with the band back in 1991 in the Dutch countdown popshow! Here is the story behind the song, if you ever want to know more contact me… ps; in this clip Dave Hill lead player had broken his ankle during a performance in England that’s his why had a chair to sit on! "Gudbuy T'Jane" was Slade's follow up to their hit single "Mama Weer All Crazee Now." In his autobiography Who's Crazee Now?, guitarist and lead vocalist Noddy Holder explained the inspiration for the song. This must have been just after Dave Hill fell off a stage in his platform boots and broke his leg. The chair on stage was so he could rest his leg. He did perform with it in plaster for a while.
Dave Hill ( Tinsel ) could always be relied upon to have a wacky costume. Noddy Holder has been battling aesophogeal cancer for the last five years and was given six months to live. Now, it seems he's clear and has even been doing some shows. The most fun band ever!
This song is the 3rd vinyl single I bought. I was 12 yrs old in 1973 and my pocket money was spent carefully as I didn't get much from my 'poor' parents. Everything about this song is awesome. The opening Drumming is not easy to play, Don makes it sound easy. The Vocals, Guitars and Bass are outstanding in their own right. Don't underestimate Jimmy Lea on Bass, as he is the Mastermind of the Band. The tight, punchy, punctuation of the Rhythm Guitars laid the foundation for my future expectations of other Bands and Artists. In 1973 I was also getting into Sweet, Suzi Quatro, Status Quo, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Led Zeppelin, T-Rex, Bad Co., Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Bowie, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed, McCartney and Wings, Elton John, Doobie Bros., America, Neil Young...... Plus all the great Aussie Artists........... I think Jane was a Queen. She was very young and she was alright, alright, alright, alright!!!!!! The Drummer Don Powell was in a very serious, life threatening car accident. He had multiple injuries and was lucky to survive. That could be why he had that type of chair.
Dave Hill, he of the silver, glittery costume, always, 'dressed-up', for the occasion when appearing on TV performances. So much so, that even the other band members weren't privy to what he was going to wear, prior to their appearance in front of the cameras. But, they always took it in their stride and accepted it as just how he was. Like most of the music, back then, the whole, 'glamour', thing of being rock/pop stars was played up and the more shiny, glittery and outrageous your clothing was, the better. They never took themselves too seriously when performing on TV. It was all for laughs. On the road, it was a different matter altogether, though.
Remind me a little of Status Quo. Very 70's era. Maybe it was these guys I heard on some Live Aid concert in mid 80's but it probably was Status Quo that was on stage.
The reason Dave Hill ( the glittery one ) isn’t moving much and has his foot on the chair is be because a few weeks earlier he fell over and broke his leg, hence why he has his leg on the chair because his leg is in plaster
Pleased you’ve done another Slade track, they were a fun band. If you check out Take me Bak ‘ome, the video has the band shadowed by dancers mimicking the lads and Dave led his shadow on a merry dance having a good laugh. But they have a huge back catalogue, even their final song…Universe….which wasn’t a hit hence the split is brilliant and Jim Lea who wrote it recently took it to No.1 in the Heritage chart
This was the follow up single to "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", a lot of their singles were written in this Phonetic style, they were from Birmingham, the second city in England. Originally they were 'Skin Heads', but changed when Bowie and Roxy Music became popular and started the 'Glam Rick' scene in the U.K.
Slade were not from Birmingham. They were from the Black Country. Three members were from Wolverhampton, Noddy Holder was from Walsall. Not a huge distance in terms of miles, but all the difference in the world if it happens to be where you come from. Slade's success pre-dates that of Roxy Music.
Hi, Chris and Cynthia: One night when I was quite young, I heard this album at a party and decided I needed something like that as I had nothing like it in my already extensive collection. It was a Wednesday when I bought it and I got familiar with the songs very quickly. I noticed you haven't done, Mama, Weer All Crazee Now yet. That was my favourite and I liked to put it on when I wanted to shock my parents and get a little wild. So, I'll be waiting to hear you do it.
Maybe as a comparison. We most certainly know that one. After we heard that Quiet Riot's version was a cover, we just had to hear what the 'Run Run Away guys' version was like. We didn't know any of Slade's early work until then.
Dave Hill was in a moonboot, he broke his ankle in his high platform boots. He still performed with the band, that’s why he has a chair. Don Powell the drummer of Slade had been in a very tragic car accident and I think this was after he got well enough to perform. I think the chair was to help him balance, it took him a while to recover but he lost taste, smell and now has short term memory problems, he still performs but not with Dave anymore. Bit sad but this clip shows them all happy together, what a great band, I noticed other comments about who Jane was etc so I won’t comment. We loved them here in Australia, my favourite band of my life, was 15 first saw them live , Melbourne Showgrounds on 4 th February 1973, so 50+ years ago. No one would forget after seeing them live on stage. They sounded the same live as on record. Fan@$&/tastic. Luv ya Slade, Noddy, Dave, Don and Jim. 🇦🇺😘🎤🥁🎸🎸🎸🎻🎹
Imagine the still influence of Victorian attitudes in early 1970s Britain, and teenage kids were released from that by going to the local disco. It was a rebellion. Noddy Holder was a father of rock and excitement. The songs got you on the dance floor straightaway. The word 'cheesy' never existed. I love all sorts of music - sophisticated progressive rock, soul, funk and whatever. But Slade still instils the original excitement. They were the first pop group to make their first appearance on Top of the Pops with a member playing a violin ( Cos I Love You), and violins became accepted after that.
love Slade but if you want to know how they really are check out the early B sides so good and good straight rock not glam candidate, my life is natural, do you want me, gospel according to Rasputin , wonderin' y the whole of the Slayed album is beyond great too

This was everywhere in the 70s, as we're Slade. Slade go beyond genre and live in the heart of a generation.
Well said.
Certainly mine ❤
The band that kick started my interest in rock music when i saw them on tv in 1971, i was eight. The song was Coz I luv you... A wonderful record and it still buzzes me to this day.

Originally called Hello to Jane but Gudbuy sounded better
Slade really rocked the early 70's when I was in school! I preferred T-Rex and Bowie at the time but still have a soft spot for Noddy and the gang!
Slade rock!

Quo opened Live Aid at Wembley. Worth checking out.
i seen them seven times at the Apollo in Glasgow and the crowd were amazing just rocking
I was a Slade bootboy all em years ago " fetch it ya bass" 🏴✌️
“Tak me bak ‘ome” is a good one. The video is good fun
Noddy wears a Stove Pipe hat, not a Top Hat, and the mirrors on it were used to reflect when the spotlight shone on them, brill
The reason Dave Hill ( the glittery one ) isn’t moving much and has his foot on the chair is be because a few weeks earlier he fell over and broke his leg, hence why he has his leg on the chair because his leg is in plaster
Not very often Slade get reacted to, I saw them live in 1972 & followed them ever since.
A great song and this is fantastic vid to go with it.

Think Quiet Riot did a cover of that Slade song at one point.
They did.
Definitely NOT from Birmingham.....that's almost a dirty word from where they came from....Wolverhampton!!
From Dudley, also part of the Black Country and yes being associate with Brummies bin insulting @@markferrett700 (note bin means - is 🤩)

Best 70$ band in uk and my favorite band (Beatles nr 1)

A real stomper of a song.
Just found your Chanel ..thanks for discovering Slade❤
You won't meet a nicer guy than Noddy Holder 😊
Great video, I love you two so much.

Got me interested in music. ❤ Slade!
If I remember the story correctly, Noddy Holder bought his mirrored hat from Freddie Mercury's market stall.
This is true. I read it in Noddy's autobiography, which is really honest and entertaining
@@colrhodes377 There's a reference to selling mirrors in the Queen song, Keep Yourself Alive.
He bought the hat but added the mirrors himself after seeing a glitter ball reflecting the lights
My bad, it was after seeing Lulu’s dress
Freddie sold shirts, Nod bought the hat off another stall
@@alanwhitney3263 not according to reports by Noddy, “I got it off a guy in Kensington market called Freddie”

check out the album , whatever Happened to Slade . very hard rock .
MY FIRST SONG WAS G, TO, JANE ❤❤❤
have you considered comparing their version of Born to be Wild with the original version by Steppenwolf.
It knocks Steppenwolf's version for 6!
how does it feel is a must
We've listened to that track. Great stuff.
2:56 Dave's got soul.
Top of the Pops 'house band'. If you ever listen to Oasis first album tell me who influenced them
love Slade but if you want to know how they really are
check out the early B sides so good and good straight rock not glam

gospel according to Rasputin , wonderin' y
the whole of the Slayed album is beyond great too
Where do you think the KISS look happened? Copied from Dave Hill
I think Jane is trans. But fucked off Noddy, be he loves her, despite her being too young for him.
