Great to see you discover Slade. From Wolverhampton in England, Slade had multiple no.1 hit singles in the UK, and also in Australia, where I live. I was 12 or 13 when I first heard them (in '72 or '73), and I was immediately entranced by singer Noddy Holder's voice. A song suggestion: "Get down and get with it" - which is old fashioned rock n' roll. Then perhaps later follow with "Cum on feel the noize" and "Mama we're all crazee now".
You just can't go wrong with Slade. Album cuts, singles, live performances, you name it, Slade delivered. I love so much of their music, you should check out their "Look Wot You Dun".
These guys are what is known as glam rock. You can pick anything they released out and enjoy it, but they also made the very best christmas song of all time. Its 40 years old, still appears in the charts every year in December. Merry Christmas Everybody
Slade rose to fame at the beginning of '70s once they had got Chass Chandler (who had played bass in The Animals in '60s) as a manager. Compared to other main glam rock bands of the era - T. Rex and The Sweet - Slade's fan base was more masculine. A typical Slade fan was a young working class male who's main interests were girls, beer and football (the European kind, of course). My own favorite Slade hit is Coz I Luv You, which has Jim Lea (arguably the musically most talented member of the band) playing violin. Other notable Slade hits from their most successful period include Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Cum On Fell The Noize, and Skweeze Me, Pleeze Me.
People in the UK still shout "It's Christmas!" at Noddy Holder dozens of times a day over the festive season, if you want to witness a phenomenon that the UK has loved (and been driven silly by) every year for 50 (yes, FIFTY) years, then listen to and watch Slade's Christmas song.
OMG Slade! I’ve been recommending them for about a year! There are SOOO many great tracks by Slade. Cum On Feel The Noize, Far Far Away, My Oh My (beyond nostalgic for those of us who remember the 80s), Mama Weer All Crazee Now, How Does It Feel etc etc
Slade had one of the biggest Christmas Hits EVER - with Merry Xmas Everybody in 1973 and it still isn't Christmas in Britain even today until they start playing it !!!
17 consecutive top 20 hits, of which 6 reached #1 on the UK Singles Charts all between 1971 and 1976. Most successful group of the 70's based on sales of singles. 1971 Get Down Get With It #16 1971 Coz I Love You #1 1972 Look Wot You Dun #4 1972 Take Me Bak 'Ome #1 1972 Mama Weer All Crazee Now #1 1972 Gudbuy T'Jane #2 1973 Skweeze Me Pleeze Me #1 1973 Cum On Feel The Noize #1 1973 My Friend Stan #2 ❤ 1973 Merry Xmas Everybody #1 1974 Everyday #3 ❤ 1974 Banging Man #3 1974 Far, Far Away #2 ❤ 1975 How Does It Feel #15 1975 Thanks For The Memory #7 1975 In For A Penny #11 1976 Let's Call It Quits #11. 1983 My Oh My #2 ❤ 1984 Run Runaway #7 ❤ In total between 1971 and 1991 they charted with 37 songs plus 1 re- entry in 2013 with Everyday.
Slade were an awesome band! One of my faves, growing up, the other main band being T.Rex. They hail from Wolverhampton in the UK. They were managed by Chas Chandler, bassist from the 60's band The Animals. He also managed Jimi Hendrix. The lead singer is Noddy Holder. The crazee glam boy (Super Yob) is Dave Hill. Jimmy Lea on bass was classically trained. And then you have Don Powell on drums. Other great songs to check out include Coz I Luv You, Mama Weer all Crazee Now, Look Wot You Dun, Take Me Bak 'Ome, Get Down and Get With It, Cum on Feel the Noize, etc. (Too many to mention!) Their biggest hit is probably Merry Xmas Everybody, which, you'll notice, has no deliberate spelling errors. 😉
They were MASSIVE in the early seventies. From Wolverhamton, they had 17 consecutive top 20 hits and 6 number ones on the UK Singles Chart. They also had one of the most popular christmas songs ever. Noddy Holder, the lead singer, and Bassist Jim Lea, who jointly wrote the song, still 50 years later, share approximately £500,000 a year in royalties from ''Merry Xmas Everybody'' because it's played on the radio so much.
Noddy!! One of the best vocalists in rock, hands down. This is a bit tamer than some of their tracks, but in addition to other suggestions, "Get Down and Get With It" is a must for sure. Their live album "Slade Alive" is still one of my favorites of all time. They get slotted as a 'glam rock' band because of some of the costumes and make-up, but they're really just a good time blues bar band, much like T. Rex was, really. Hope you check out more of their stuff, for sure.
Wooohooo!! Finally your onto Slade, a band from my city! And the original band to have sung C'MON FEEL THE NOIZE! iconic band with one of the biggest all time Christmas songs too in merry everybody... Good on ya!! (And I used to see the guitarist regularly in the shop down the road too lol, he lived a street or so away from me)
At last you have discovered Slade. One of the best British rock bands from the 70s. Everyday was one of their biggest hits, also Far far away was great and the Christmas song Merry Christmas everybody gets released and back in the charts every December.
This song was written after a tour of America, the girl Jane was real, she loved her shoes, hence " She had them made to match up to her suits ", they should have been the biggest thing since the Beatles in America.
"Flame" is one of the all time great movies about the music industry and has a fantastic soundtrack. "Them kind of monkeys can't swing" is one of my favorite songs from the 70's and is a real banger.
Noddy Holder famously bought his trademark mirrored top hat from Freddie Mercury, who was running a clothes stall in Kensington Market before Queen got a record deal
Made my day! So glad you found Slade and you started with my favourite. Mama Weer All Crazee Now is a close second and that'll be a good day for me when (not if) you play that one as well.
I cant understand how these weren't huge in America, definitely a "Greatest Hits" must get and Noddy has one of the best rock voices ever. I LOVE Far Far Away & (Mama we're all crazy and Here it is Merry Christmas)
It is so nice to hear/see you react to this band. They are more known for the songs Mama Weer All Crazee Now and Cum on Feel the Noize (which were both covered by Quiet Riot), but Gudby T' Jane is the song I most appreciate. Well done!!
They are from Wolverhampton.Wolverhampton is a city in central England.A great fun band live. i like Get Down With It is a great song.Neville John "Noddy" Holder MBE is an English musician, songwriter and actor. He was the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the English rock band Slade, one of the UK's most successful acts of the 1970's.
In our house Christmas isn't Christmas until you hear Slade's 'Merry Xmas Everybody' on the radio - check out their definitive Top of the Pops video, cut together from a couple of performances (of course they're miming, that's how the show was back then), and helped that they'd had a few beers before going on, it's a funny watch. Also note: Noddy used to refer to the song as his "pension scheme" as the royalties from its play every Christmas made him (as co-writer along with bassist Jim Lea) hugely wealthy. It's estimated it still brings in £500,000 in royalties per year.
The Slade are from England, the part of England called Wolverhampton and they started in 1966, but were more prominent in the 70s of the Glam Rock era. They achieved 17 consecutive top 20 hits and six number one's on the uk charts. The lead singer he is known as Noddy Holder, but his real name is Neville John Holder. Other songs of theirs you should also react to are, Come feel the noise, Mama we're all crazy now, Keep on Rocking.
Slade is such a fun band! Run Runaway, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Thanks for the Memory, Cum On Feel the Noize, and their Christmas song, Merry Xmas Everybody. Pretty much anything they do is fun and catchy.
Noddy is a favourite guest on various TV shows these days as he's such a humorous and down-to-earth kind of guy. In 2018 he was diagnosed with a very serious illness, with only a few months to live, but responded well to experimental treatment and is now in great shape for his age.
Hi Jay and Amber! It's Andrew Erroch fae Paisley in Scotland here. I'm so happy to see you finally reacting to Slade, and it's definitely another rabbit hole for you. They are from Wolverhampton in England. As others have said, this isn't even their biggest hit, as they have so many. It's amazing you've reacted to this one, though, at this time, as I've had this song in my head a lot recently, including this very week. Their most successful hit by far will be 'Merry Xmas Everybody' from 1973. It is still played every year, and it is probably the biggest Christmas hit ever in the UK. Noddy Holder was able to retire on that one song alone and was quoted as saying ‘It’s like having a hit record every year. So it’s a nice pension plan, I’ll say that.’... It has the famous line that he shouts out which is "It's Christmas!!!" and everybody waits for that moment in the song. You must check out many more of Slade. You will definitely not regret it. Trust me. Æx 🙏
Another thing you and your viewers should check out are the brilliant and funny Slade spoof sketches that were on the BBC in the UK, by Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer with friends. Just search UA-cam for 'Reeves And Mortimer Slade', and you'll see some examples. Vic and Bob even appeared on Noddy Holder's This Is Your Life episode, which you can also see on UA-cam. There was a connection to Cup-A-Soup adverts and I can't remember why. Maybe Noddy once advertised them, or something. Please check them out. I love them! Æx 🙏
At last! Well done, guys. This band were huge in the UK - and their live songs sounded just as good, because of Noddy Holder's voice. If you want to listen to more, try out: Cum on feel the Noize - 'Mama Weer All Crazee Now' - 'Coz I Luv You' - 'Everyday' - 'Merry Xmas Everybody' - 'Far Far Away'. There are more, but these should set you up just right so you get a good feel for what Slade were about :) Enjoy!
Your first by Slade!!!! My word! You'll get 15>20 amazing suggestions for Slade songs, most of them rockers, but check out Everyday... a slower tempo work of genius.
Glad you love them, i think they deserve much more recognition than they get these days. I recommend their song “radio: wall of sound” (less well known but brilliant and my favourite) and the commonly known ones are “merry christmas eveybody”, “run run away”, “we’re all krazee now”, “cmon feel the noize”….and “cuz i luv you” and “how does it feel” are worth checking out too.
YES, YES, YES!!!!! Great stuff, guys! I like SLADE a lot! It was one of the first rock & roll bands I fell in love with as a young bloke! Right up there with bands like Accadacca & the like. Great reaction!😊!
Slade dominated the uk charts for more than 2 years, no mean feat in those days. 3 of their tracks went straight to No 1, only previously achieved by the Beatles. Noddy had the most unique voice in pop history and they just had fun. They did some staggeringly beautiful ballads also, you should check them out. Awesome talents.
Saw Slade only once but it was unforgettable. They played the Schaeffer Festival in NYs Central Park in blazing 90+ heat. Got the crowd absolutely crazy and by end of show the crowd had stomped the rows of metal foldup chairs flat in about 3/4 of the orchestra!! In the middle of the show people in the audience were throwing crushed ice and any water they could get on fellow viewers to help cool people off and the security grabbed 1 guy and tried to drag him out and Noddy Holder stopped in mid song and demanded they release him or they'd walk off stage(which might have caused a riot-no kidding). As a result they removed Schaeffer as a sponsor (booze didn't help things lol) and banned hard rock groups for 2 years and returned as the Dr. Pepper Festival. The Slade Alive album is one of rocks great bangers. On the live version of Get Down, Get With It you will get a rough idea what it was like to be among the crowd. You've been warned lol.
Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley saw Slade back when they were still plying their trade as a New York bar band called Wicked Lester. Impressed by the big chorus, foot stomping, sing-a-long Rock n Roll that was Slade's trademark they decided that was the direction to go in - but very American. A prototype Cheap Trick saw Slade live & bassist Tom Petersson remarked that they had used "every cheap trick in the book" during their set. Overlooked & dismissed as a joke band by people who didn't recognise the talented musicians behind the outlandish clothes - it's stood the test of time & their critics have been proved wrong. & dare I say it aren't fit to lick the Dog sh*t from their Platform Boots.
SLADE!!!! Yes! My favorite song by them! Apart from the obvious one that Quiet Riot made a hit with in the U.S., such a great catalogue with "Run Runaway", "Take Me Back 'Ome", "How Does It Feel", "Get Down Get With It", "Radio Wall of Sound", "Coz I Luv You", "When I'm Dancin' I Ain't Fightin'", "Everyday", and "Merry Xmas Everybody"! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Then perhaps later follow with "Cum on feel the noize" and "Mama we're all crazee now".
You just can't go wrong with Slade. Album cuts, singles, live performances, you name it, Slade delivered. I love so much of their music, you should check out their "Look Wot You Dun".
Run Runaway. Must listen.
These guys are what is known as glam rock. You can pick anything they released out and enjoy it, but they also made the very best christmas song of all time. Its 40 years old, still appears in the charts every year in December. Merry Christmas Everybody
50 years I think - Christmas 1973.
70'S groups that could sing and play their tools of their craft ... absolutely magnificent!
slade was one of the best live groups of the 70,s early 80,s wrote some top songs, sadly never to be repeated
Top of the Pops , & you think of Slade every time , a must for Thursday nights
Guys you have opened pandoras box with Slade ! An awesrockin band from the 70s and 80s ! Plus just as good live ! 🎼🎙🎸🎹👍🍺🍺
'Get down, get with it' from Slade alive is one of the greatest Rock vocals of all time! No auto-tune required here
Slade alive bought it in 71. Still have still play it.👍🏴
I have seen every top band live starting in the late 60s onwards, and trust me no band live came near Slade.

One of the best Rock Singers...Slade Alive great Live Album
"Moma Weer All Crazee Now, Cum On Feel The Noise, My Oh My, Run Runaway" - all classics.
Slade are a goodtime band. Get Down and Get With It, is one of my alltime favourites from Slade. You can't go wrong with Slade.
Just the S at end of Xmas was back to front on originals
Finally you got around to doing Slade, although I am surprised you never did their Xmas song yet.
FINALLY! Not the track I'd have picked, but good to know you have now heard this great band
Their cover of Darlin Be Home Soon is a must. Just do it. These guys had more fun than the audience, great band.
The days when music made you happy and want to sing along
I have heard Noddy was offered the AC/DC gig when Bon passed.
Yeh but wasn’t interested so BJ got the gig
This song was written after a tour of America, the girl Jane was real, she loved her shoes, hence " She had them made to match up to her suits ", they should have been the biggest thing since the Beatles in America.
"Flame" is one of the all time great movies about the music industry and has a fantastic soundtrack. "Them kind of monkeys can't swing" is one of my favorite songs from the 70's and is a real banger.
I always think of Come on feel the noise, Far far away, My friend Stan... So many great memories
ton of hits coming up here , your gunna love this rabbit hole :)
Noddy Holder famously bought his trademark mirrored top hat from Freddie Mercury, who was running a clothes stall in Kensington Market before Queen got a record deal
😆 at least ONE brings that up on every single Slade vid 😅
👍🏴
Freddie sold shirts on the market not hats, Slade bought shirts off him not the top hat
@@alanwhitney3263 never let the truth get in the way of a good story …😉
👍🏴
Made my day! So glad you found Slade and you started with my favourite. Mama Weer All Crazee Now is a close second and that'll be a good day for me when (not if) you play that one as well.
The best natural rock voice....ever
One of the greatest British bands, the legendary Slade !!! 🇬🇧👍🏽
This would be a good rabbit hole to go down . So many great songs.
I cant understand how these weren't huge in America, definitely a "Greatest Hits" must get and Noddy has one of the best rock voices ever. I LOVE Far Far Away & (Mama we're all crazy and Here it is Merry Christmas)
This band was such an influence on the hard rock / metal of the 80's
One of the top Glam rock bands when I was growing up here in Ireland .Hope we get to hear more of their great hits 🤙🍀💖
Other songs of theirs you should also react to are,
Come feel the noise,
Mama we're all crazy now,
Keep on Rocking.
Walsall
@@b0bmills517what's Walsall.
@@b0bmills517 What do you mean about walsall?, if you mean where they're from I got it from research.
Oh yes, some classic Slade hits the channel! The legendary Super Yob on guitar! 😎
Slade had about 19 top ten hits they were a great influential band back in the day
Hi Jay and Amber!
Æx 🙏
Fantastic back catalogue of songs and they have the biggest Christmas EVER!!
There are more, but these should set you up just right so you get a good feel for what Slade were about :)
Enjoy!
Great band. I own and listen to their whole catalog often.
So so many Slade tracks you need to listen to
Grew up listening to them, absolute class
As teenagers Slade were simply the best, a lot of hits in a relatively short time. Thankyou for this one took me right back ❤
You guys again find the music that was my favorites growing up. Slade were straight ahead rock with no BS. They were under-appreciated.
I've scanned the comments and I'm shocked that no one else wants to see the yellow lights go down the Mississipi. Slade's masterpiece, Far Far Away!
Yes! Forgot about that one! What a song!
"Hear Me Calling" "Coz I Luv You" "Tak' Me Bak 'Ome" "Look Wot You Dun" "Everyday" "Know Who You Are" "Thanks for the Memory" "Darling Be Home Soon"
Their early stuff was their best, Slade alive is by far the best live album ever.
@@Maccaxxx Agreed!
What a voice!
The immortal Noddy Holder the lead singer. Now sadly suffering from throat cancer. I wish him well!!
Sempre amei este disco desde que ele foi lançado.
SLADE!!!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
