This song was wrote by Tuomas & Marco after the band dismissing Tarja . its at the height of there anger directed at Tarja's husband & Manager Marchello . This was Marco singing and this studio version is the only time they have played it . Its never been done live & never will be .
Tuomas did see Metallica, and G'N'R, as an exchange student in the US, part of the reason he got into metal. So , not surprising to hear that influence when he wanted a very heavy song. Yes, Marko is very 80's, at age 16 in 1984, he and his brother started his first band Tarot . Angry Nightwish. 👿 One of the 3 songs on the Dark Passion Play album, related to the split with Tarja, . This was directed at her manager/husband Marcelo. Even the way Marko siings it sounds angry. The song has never been played live , and never will be, they have all moved on from those events. Next? Maybe check out Marko and his brother in Tarot, suggest "Wings of Darkness" or "Tides".
This was literally Angry Tuomas. He wrote some of his best works going through hard times. This one and of course The Poet and the Pendulum. Must be weird that people are rocking out to songs about your deepest darkest moments in life.
One of the things I love about this song, is that even though it's pure fury from first note to last, Tuomas can't help but produce beauty from pain and anger. The central section from 2:19-3:25 he unleashes these towering chord progressions from the orchestra and band and gorgeous guitar lines that give me chills every single time.
If you like heavy - Tuomas & Kai also play in Darkwoods My Betrothed! (and on the other end of the spectrum - an intimate sound - they play with Troy & Johanna Kurkela - Tuomas’ wife as Auri).
Brilliant reaction!..... absolutely loved it! I think everything has already been said by my fellow commentors so I'm not going to go parrot fashion......... have I said what a brilliant reaction this is...... I think I may!
Great reaction! Angry and pissed off Tuomas and Marko. Never a good idea to piss off songwriters. From the lyrics song is cleary about Tarja's husband/manager Marcelo that the guys blamed for changing Tarja and driving a wedge between her and the band. Basically Nightwish's Yoko Ono. Never performed live and never will be, just like Bye, Bye Beautiful since it is clearly about an actual person and now so far in the past that Tuomas has moved past it.
If you look for another song with marko as a lead vocalist you can try out "endlessness" from "HUMAN :II: NATURE" the last album featuring Marco. edit : Oh i forgot to mention, the guitar is awessome too :P
I think you can often hear other bands with most bands, I've heard bits of Nightwish that remind me of killing joke and faith no more, not whole songs just occasional riffs.
Floor Jansen is the most suitable lead singer in Nightwish BUT they would be great band without woman singer too when Marko Hietala was member of band.
Tuomas and the boys are very influenced by Metallica. Marko biggest vocal inspirations are Dio & Halford. They will never perform this live. Too much anger towards a former lead vocalist and her mate. It is over now and left behind.
@@Pertit-c1c if you haven't heard An Ocean of Strange Islands yet I'd recommend it, it the the most Nightwish song in years. Lanternlight is absolutely gorgeous too, but MUCH softer.
I'm sorry. I know you meant it as a compliment to say 'Metallica driven', and Tuomas is a fan of Metallica, but it's not as though a band can patent a fast bass drum beat, which was essentially all it was. I can understand people finding parallels between more complex musical motifs or chord progressions, but it just seems a bit daft to say that when a band/composer uses a simple musical building block, that they've been influenced/inspired by someone else that used it before them. The real underlying point is that creative people do not seek to copy.

Yes angry Nightwish is always good!.

With all the negativity in the world, thankfully we have Floor and Nightwish with positive vibes.
This song is anything but positive, and there is no Floor here. Would be cool if she sang it though.
Saw this and knew you were going to get jazzed. Even with no Queen. We got the king Marko!
I wish they play it live more
Hell yeah😤😖😡🤘
Metallica is a very large influence on Tuomas.🎸🤘

Heavy pissed off Nightwish, I approve! 🤘🤘
This song is one of my favorites on Dark Passion Play. Tuomas writes amazing music with such raw emotion, and Marko KILLED it

Apocalyptic catharsis.

Still my favorite Nightwish song.
Walking in the Air
Oh I love this James Bond kind of ending!
You should listen to Marko when he was younger. You should react to Marko singing Wings of Darkness from 1986 . He.was 20.in 1986
Tuomas likes Metallica since he was a teenager. Love the horns near the end.

Tuomas has stated that without Metallica Nightwish probably wouldn't exist, and if they did they'd be a very different band!
🤘🤘🤘
I’m pretty sure Tuomas loves Metallica. They even put a nod to them in Greatest Show on Earth
Due to the message of the song, it's not to be performed live.
If you look for another song with marko as a lead vocalist you can try out "endlessness" from "HUMAN :II: NATURE" the last album featuring Marco.

Tuomas has been heavily influenced by Metallica. Probably Emppu as well. So you're right.
🥮🥧😅🔥🤘

Tuomas would be very happy being compared with Metallica, hes a big fan

8:07 Unlikely. As far as I know, Marco isn’t gay.😊
HOW DARE YOU!
lol
Nice. The best song with the best singer. I will be waiting. Hope that Nightwish will return back to heavy metal.
Good luck ^^ Nightwish is doing fine right now
Maybe they will. You do not never know what Tuomas Holopainen do next.
Haven't you heard the new album ??
@@richardgoddard37 I did listen two songs... I want to keep my good memories - if I may say it nice.
