I would not do meal subscription kits.
    that's me.its too expensive,for what it is.
$60 for a weekly box of food I have to prepare? I can take that same $60 and buy a good two to three weeks of food from the grocery store instead.
if anything requires credit card info,I cancel instantly.
how, exactly,is it a free gift ,if I'm being charged?

IF you want quick, any time, day or night, have a mono meal-a plate of fruit. Done. For breakfast, add some oatmeal and water in a bowl, microwave for 3 minutes. For lunch, take a potato, put some holes in it, microwave for 5 minutes, open a package of salad. For an afternoon snack, dip bell pepper slices into hummus. For dinner, throw some greens and fruit into a blender, whiz it up. Quick meals that are healthy, good for the earth (minimal packaging) and good for your finances are usually found in the produce section, not in a subscription meal kit.

Well I think going to the store with gas prices, the time it takes to shop, there are shortages, really makes it practical. You get the exact amount the servings should be, also helps with weight issues. Just my opinion.

I'm sure that Prepper Princess could whip this pretty basic meal up in a jiffy. She recently had a UA-cam on poor man's meals for $1! It was baked chicken, mashed potatoes from a mix and fresh uncooked green beans. For a dollar!

This is why I don't do subscriptions. It takes an act of congress to cancel. My daughter tried to give me the free meals from one of these type of companies, but I turned down all those free meals. (Free week introductory offer.) The company she used had everything pre-chopped and pre-measured. It was cute, it even had small, baby condiment containers with the condiments pre-measured.

Both required very little prep and provided a large amount of food. Enough to freeze for future use. Every meal was fresh and delicious. The 3rd was an organic vegan meal service from Veestro. There was no prep, just heat and eat. Perfect for one armed cooking! The food was fabulous. I enjoyed all of them and would use them again if needed due to health or injury.

Yeah, I've tried a couple of these, and just find them too expensive. A friend gifted me one (I can't remember which one), so I thought I'd try it. Same thing happened to me, with the credit card info and being charged for the "next order." That annoyed me, so I have decided to never try any of these; they all operate the same way. I think I liked Hello Fresh the best - good choices, very fresh ingredients, nice recipe cards, easy to follow. But the cost turned me off all of them.

I’ve tried a couple of “meal plans”, and they are not for me. I am lucky, my local Co-op Food Store has a wonderful prepared foods counter. It ends up being more expensive than doing it all myself, but it is delicious and easy.
I often do my own prepared foods. For example, I have done a big batch of mashed potatoes, and put them in smaller containers in the freezer. I can thaw as many servings as I need. Or baked beans, same thing. It sure is nice to take a container of baked beans to work with a ham sandwich. That and an apple makes a super meal for a working girl.

I did one of those meal kits one time. It was good, but I thought the prep time was too much. Have you considered prep, freeze, cook meals? I don't know if they are offered in your area, but they do have their own website. They are homemade meals that are already prepared, and you either bake or cook them in a crockpot. The price on them are reasonable. Very quick.. No prep. They even deliver for reasonable shipping. In your situation, it would be very convenient for you now. Glad to see you are doing so well!

We've not tried Every Plate and thanks for your take. We were gifted both a Home Chef and Hello Fresh box and didn't find it difficult to understand when and how we needed to "pause subscription" or "cancel". Have to look at the details. I am a little sad that this meal took forever for you and your daughter to make together. With most meal subscriptions these days, they do have options where you pretty much dump something into an oven ready pan and off you go. I am so accustomed to cooking, that things do take very little time. You would think though, that the people putting together the recipe cards and instructions would share different time frames based on the cook's skill set. That would be a help, I should think. Your food did look very good in the end though, so good job!

I used Hello Fresh for a while. The meals were very tasty but like you, I felt that the preparation and cooking time were too long. I thought that it was just me. I also thought that it was less economical than what I could throw together by shopping at Walmart and Aldi like I do. I agree that there is also a lot of boxing materials that have to be thrown out or recycled.

It's ridiculous that the company already paid wouldn't just send you an email asking for you to make your choices.
It's a nice gesture but I bet your friend didn't realize how costly this would end up being, very sad.
People would be better off to send a gift card to restaurants that will prepare and deliver the food.
Hope you enjoyed it tho, it did look good.

I like the idea of a curated meal box, but with the time it took you to prepare that meal, it was the same as doing it all myself. All they really did was find a recipe and gather ingredients, sooo shopping. It seems pricey to me at first look, but it may not really be considering all the ingredients I use every day for an ordinary meal at home. I mean, $4.83 a plate isn't too bad, but I haven't priced out the costs of my own meals so it might be comparable. I wonder what happens though if you go on vacation and how hard is it to hold these boxes? I also wonder what if I want a main dish but don't like the sides/vegetables offered? I thought this was going to be a big help and timesaver for dinner, but in reality, I'd say no. I think for some people this service can be beneficial, but it doesn't fit my lifestyle and budget. The quality of the food though looked great! That carrot looked better than the packaged ones at the store. That chicken looked soo much better than the Wal Mart jumbo bag of frozen chicken breasts do.

I do agree about it being difficult to cancel though and have had some issues with this in the past. But I've also been introduced to new foods, recipes and ways of cooking so it has helped educate me too 😉👍

Unless I do a keto plan, I don't like that I'm paying a premium price and getting a side like potatoes or rice as they are one of the cheapest ingredients around. The biggest downside to me is the prep time. My meals are simple and the meal kits take me three times as long. I'm just not into all the vegetable prep. I might be interested in trying a meal kit that was pre-chopped. I did not find any of them difficult to cancel.

She ordered three very large family size meals and some treats from Schwan‘s. They called when they were within a half an hour of my home. They delivered my food. And that was the end of it I did not need to provide them with any information other than my phone number. So for those of us with good intentions about providing meals to someone who is in need of a little help, look for the options where you pay, they deliver and there is no subscription

I believe these recipes are designed by professional chefs who have lots of experience and training how to cook very fast so what takes one chef ten minutes can take ordinary person even one hour. I also noticed they prep the food without much care. It's all about the speed. I never tried service like this but I had subsribtion to spicery. Basically you chose what type of food you would like each week and you recieve spuce mixtures and recipe card but you have to buy the fresh produce yourself. I got two boxes and the food just wasn't good I tried to cancel the subscription but they said sorry to late. Your box has already shipped like a week before. The service was monthly subscription which isn't very helpful if you need to boost up your everyday cooking but it was interesting and it though me one thing. If I want to make most of my cookbooks I should pland a full meal out of each including started, soup, main course, side dish, salad and desert. Its completly different experience if I chose the best of each from one cookbook. It's real feast and often it's not so difficult and I can also eat it for two or three days because it doesn't get easily boring when it's feast like that. I see the biggest disadvantage of ordering services like that in the fact you get only one portion out of your hard work and probably no leftovers.

I was interested enough to check their website. I found that that the least prep time was 30 min for the whole meal. By chance did you read 10min for the carrots and thought that was for the whole meal? In any case, I think I could do a better job financially myself - I already put chicken in individual servings in the freezer, have bags of frozen vegs that just need to zapped in the microwave, and rice and mashed potatoes we prepare enough for 4 meals freezing the other 3 meals worth. Easy peasy to get a meal on the table - as long as I remember to thaw the chicken:)

Am reconsidering volunteering again at a seniors center for lunch times. The meals are low sodium and low sugar. A free meal in lieu of volunteering. Some menu items much better than other days. When people forget to call and cancel their lunches due to things like dr's appts, generally their meal goes into the freezer. On Fridays, these freezers are cleaned out hopefully with people lined up to take to their freezers and eventually the microwave. Otherwise, the lunches have to be thrown away.
