  • It was a shopping TRIP we didn’t expect. 2400 miles travelled to buy this ONE THING we didn’t even know if we could get this soon. This is freedom for our family now that the twins are home and we are 9 in number.

I know you want to sell your other vans, but wait until you find out how much gas the new van uses (miles per gallon). You may decide to keep a smaller van for errands and for girls/boys outings where you only take part of the family. Sending lots of love 💖 from sunny 🌞 Arizona 🌵😷. P.s. you may already know your mpg, but wait until you feel the impact of having to fill up every time you go to town with the big van, when you could have taken the small van instead.

@@kimberli2391 really? We had one that the bench seats laid flat & it made a huge bed from the back of the front seats to the back doors.
We would go to the Drive-In movies with our 2 little one's. My husband would lay all but the first bench out at home. He loaded everything we needed for a successful drive-in movie night. Cooler was in-between the 2 front seats Then we'd lay the car seats under the first bench seat lay it flat & then we blew up a queen size air mattress. Spread out all the blankets & pillows which included 2 sitting bed pillows you use to sit up to use a laptop p.c., read, or to sit back & watch the movies at the drive-in.
Our 2 used to fall asleep about 1/2 way through the 1st movie. Oh I forgot I had bought one of the no screen door coverings to hang across the rear door opening to keep the unfriendly bugs out & the friendly ones too!.it had magnets around the outside edges that stuck to the vans back door opening. We even took it camping & that first night had to sleep in our van because it was pouring when we got to the camp grounds & rained all night & into early afternoon. But after that slept in the tent for 4 nights then back in the van the last night there it stormed horribly. After that we invested in a camp. That was the best thing we did. We could take a friend for each child & even a couple with us. I missed that van when we sold it. Ended up selling the camper too, the couple we sold the van to bought it. They even let me borrow it for a girls only weekend.

@@reneeritchie-gazarkiewicz9644 Well that sounds very comfy with pillows and air mattresses, yes that would work. I was talking about laying on a hard, arched, narrow, bench seat. We parked it at the barn while we waited for the new foal to be born, so uncomfortable. Next foal we just put a nice layer of straw in the back of our pickup truck. We laid blankets over it. We watched the stars, felt the cool breeze, listening to the whooshing sounds of Joy, our mare, getting up and down. When it got louder we checked with soft lights and saw tiny feet coming out. The family was called and everyone shared in the birth, quietly of course. But yes we put mattresses on the floor a few times. Usually though we tent camped with the five kiddos tightly packed in with us. 😊❤️ Now it is our hauler for most things, very handy.

Plus it is easy to find someone to service them, as needed. My husband still has his 1985 4 wheel drive pickup and still drives it as a farm truck. His current Ford truck that he drives every day is a 2006. He get constant offers from people that want to by it. My current Ford truck that I drive daily is a 2012. For years now we have bought brand new and drive them until they are worth about 300.00. Lol we totally get our money’s worth out of them when we drive them for 15 to 20 years. Or for as long as we can keep them running without costing a fortune.

Adjust the mirrors so you can see the whole lenght of the van and whats on either side of you. You will LOVE the van. We bought a one ton Ford - Club Wagon XL 15 passenger van in 1986 so we could all ride to church together!
(With our three kids and all the neighborhood kids we had been driving two station wagons to donuts and Sunday school every week.) On road trips, each kid had their own bench seat - no fighting. We had plenty of room for our daughter’s volleyball team for games and tournaments. When she was in college I could move her in and out of the dorm all by myself using the big green monster! Then I drove that thing by myself from Fort Worth to Dallas every day for a year when I went to The Art Institute of Dallas. We never had any major problems with the van. And, Bri, you will love being up high and being able to see everything that’s going on on the road. It gives you confidence. You will also be able to impress and amaze your friends when they watch you PARALLEL PARK with ease! Our kids have been grown and gone for years and we don’t need a big car now. But I sure do miss my big green van!! I’m so glad you got this for your family. You will have SO MUCH FUN!!

We bought our Chevy Express 11 person van in 1999 and is still going strong after hauling firewood, rock, cement, Costco groceries, an old 62 truck, and much more. We also take full loads of trash and recycling to our transfer station. We always have a tarp down for keeping the floor clean. Don't forget nylon/poly seat covers that are washable! We had to have the salesperson drive with my hubby to our house to make sure it fit in the garage!

Oh Bri! It's so wonderful to hear you laugh again! I'm so happy for all of you and I hope you video the first outing in it. Also, I'm not a fan of Ford cars, but Ford trucks are built really good so you have a great vehicle there. They do take more gas, but so worth it to be able to go places together. Besides, you would have used more gas if you had to use both smaller vans every time you wanted to go someplace as a family. So you actually might be saving money! Congratulations on your new freedom!

I wonder though... does it take up as much gas as it would if they had to take both the smaller vans together to go somewhere? We get 8 mpg on our E-350 but it has a motorhome on it. How much do these get? I have no idea...

We’ve been traveling the country since July 19th and seeing places I only read about in school. We’ve been to Charleston, Jamestown, Yorktown, Williamsburg and headed to Gettysburg next. We’ve seen some plantations, camped in the Blue Ridge, Pocono and Smokey Mountains, been to the Gulf in Galveston, the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean, seen friends and family, etc. it has been the trip of a lifetime. So don’t mind gas cost too much but do wish it was cheaper. Last year we paid a lot less when we took it back east for 3 weeks to see my sister. California was over $5 a gallon and that was a shock to us! It’s much cheaper on the east coast.

Mom, dad , kid in middle and baby on mom's lap, and then 4 in the second row. Small child always on my lap. People would be horrified now but we had such a good time and everyone touched every one!

We have a Transit, and I have always called it the “maxi-van” since we transitioned from a string of mini-vans. My big kids, however, always called it “the creeper bus” because it’s what you’d expect kidnappers to be driving. Sometimes they’d be in their co-op classes and I’d be trying to get a little one to nap while we waited, so I’d drive around the neighborhoods that were close by. I’m sure it didn’t look sketch at all. 🤣 🤷🏻‍♀️

Can I ask how you like your Transit? We've been dreaming of 1, but want to buy with the inside stripped so we can do our own thing. Any real important pros and/or cons? Thanks if you have time to reply! Most appreciated!

@@cyndid7555 We love our Transit! Half of our kids are grown and driving their own vehicles now, but we still use it with only the younger four. The space is just awesome. We did the 12 passenger, which is the same as the 15 passenger with the last row of seats removed. I definitely wanted that because we needed the trunk space (otherwise you would have none). The only con is parking it, of course. It’s a learning curve, and kind of a pain when you go into a big city, but not a huge dealbreaker for us. I also wish that it didn’t have carpet, but it is my understanding that the newer ones do not. We have had ours for almost 6 years now, and I definitely recommend them. 👍🏻

We had an F350 van with one of our former church youth groups. We found that the 4-passenger seat in the very back actually will fit in the 3-passenger slot, which would mean you could take out the seat with the holes, and also have room for 4 in the back instead of 3. That will give extra room for kids to spread out.
