  • Fences washed away, the house flooded, wet concrete premix bags. We thought this North Carolina flood was a disaster until this happened: a surprising good ending. We had record rainfall and flooding in the North Carolina mountains. In some areas the water has not been this high for 40 years.

If God sent the flood then there was good reason but did you know that God could turn a negative situration we face in life and turn it to be a blessing. but the storm could have just been a natural event the God permitted for reason we both don't understand. Great teamwork! Put in a French drain on that side of the house. They do wonders with areas prone to flooding. Dig a trench, put down sand and gravel, lay a perforated pipe running to the area you want the water to divert to, and cover with ground cloth. Cement in a grate to the cement blocks above the pipe down the length of the side of the house, and backfill over the ground cover away from the house . The water will run into the grate and into the holes in the pipe, running through the pipe in the direction you want the water to go.

    • @StoneKathryn
      @StoneKathryn 3 роки тому +3

      Yes, that is what Art was planning on doing is building a french drain down from the garden side of the house because he knew if he didn't fix that first his house would just fill up with mold all over again. He has a rock he can't move in between the house ans the hill. That has put a stop to his finishing the french drain. He wants to get bigger equipment down to get the big rock out but it has to dry out a bit first. He wants to build a rock wall to hold the hill back from the house and fill in between the house and wall with gravel to make the french drain. It all takes time and money.

I dug out the mud and started dumping bags of cement, including ruined bags that got wet. I was able to break up the bags and toss into the stall for the floor. This has been a very crazy year. We have had flooding through my city in places that never had flooding before. Buildings were damaged sewers collapsed and cars were flooded above the window level trapping several people in under 5 minutes. Water is such a useful and destructive force. I am glad you were able to save the cement and finish the footing. Lets hope you get everything back to a reasonable normal soon. Maybe Grace should look into a career in construction. She already has more experience than most new hires.

    It is so amazing that dealing with the flooding, the fence and lord knows what else you were able to find a blessing in all this chaos which was spending time with your son. God bless you and your family.

    YEA! The footer is DONE! The force of water is amazing and I was glad your littles weren't there to 'play' in that creek.

    Good job Art and Grace! Grace deserves a special thank you because she is still just a child doing the hard physical work of an adult in a disaster at night. Grace you are a champion, Art, you are too
