    We have a neighbor that has a toy drone he flies all the time. When I first heard it, scared me not knowing what the heck it was & then I became very paranoid once I had seen it. I thought they were spying on my property and animals. I quickly realized he was just having fun & wasn't actually going too far beyond his property.
    However, I still remain paranoid when it comes to privacy. It seems like we have a severe lack of it where I live. I don't even feel comfortable sitting on my front porch. I've worked on my gardens and had people cat call me as they drove by.
    Unfortunately my worst fear happened this year. Not sure who it was, but someone felt it was their duty to report us to the county for "non-compliant" animals. People have had animals like pigs, goats, chickens, and ducks with no issue until now. No one cared. People actually enjoyed seeing our animals for years. It was heartbreaking for our little homestead to be broken up, and we are currently looking to move so we can bring them home ❤️.
    Which brings me back to the drone part. Our realtor hired a drone guy for property photos. I later learned of a rumor floating around that people thought it was the county scoping out our property to see if we got rid of our non-compliant animals. Sorry this is long winded but having privacy is very important!!

    We’ve had a drone fly right over our garage roof that two bedrooms overlook. Also, right passed our bathroom window that faces our backyard and the woods so the windows almost always uncovered. It’s very unsettling. We live in a rural neighborhood so we won’t be sunbathing or anything indecent in our yard but people should be able to do that on their own property without feeling watched.

    it could easily be a 12 yr old kid, a neighbor, who's horsing around with his drone didn't realize how close he was to your property line. maybe he saw the cows, or suddenly saw he was on your property and jerked the controls, causing drone to crash. didn't want parents to get upset, so simply hopped a fence and grabbed it up, not even worrying about the blade. just a possibility 🤷🏼‍♀️

    The issue of privacy and domain over your own property, it brings to mind what's happened to Gold Shaw Farm up in Vermont with their bear hunting laws. There is a very high bar for property owners there to prevent bear hunters from sending uncontrolled GPS-collar hunting dogs onto their property to track and tree bears. Morgan is trying to make it easier for property owners to prevent these types of incursions onto their own farm, and getting a lot of resistance from hunters. But the technology that enables the dogs to roam uncontrolled came about after the laws were in place.

I turned to the drone and yelled in my loudest voice to get off my property or I would shoot them down. Hoping that wherever they were they could hear me. They went away and came back so I went in the house and got the shotgun. Very quickly the drone flew away. They have not come back. I probably wouldn't have shot up into the air but they didn't have to know about that. I also then got in my car and drove around to see if I could find anybody putting a drone away cuz I would have yelled at them in their face.

Just learning how to fly the drone . You are not at the farm all day, so they would have not found anyone home when checking . They could have tried to find someone. No one around. I have had drones fly over my property, I just wave and smile. That said i can see how it feels like invasion of privacy. I am in a 2 acre farm in the middle of suburbia, so already feel invasion of privacy everyday I walk out my door. So drone in my area is par for the course. There are FAA rules about how low a plane or copter can fly over your home (generally 500 feet). They are working on regulations that would require ID numbers for drones so there's a chance that, if enacted, if you ran an app on your phone that allowed you to track commercial flights you might also see someone 'droning' over your house. They are also working on regulations for how low you can fly over people and vehicles. It might be interesting for you to contact your state representative and see what the status is on these regulations. And, personally, I don't see any difference between a peeping tom standing outside a window and one hovering outside a window....

    Having grown up in a large city and lived in towns all my life, public access to an area 20 to 30 feet of your home is normal. You can see into peoples windows and back yards, admire their gardens, smell their lilacs in the air, hear their kids splashing in their pool. Some people are very uncomfortable with that. Others are not. Blinds, shades, curtains and privacy fences are the result as well as laws against "peeping" and excess noise. A view from overhead feels different, but isn't really.
    Living in the country, you are obviously used to a much larger buffer zone from your house to the street The trespassing is what I would be most concerned with. Once someone comes on to your property it is a whole different ballgame.

    • @sparrowgarden1401
      @sparrowgarden1401 2 роки тому

      When you live in a rural area you have a different level of privacy. Even in town, you know what can be seen from the street or by your neighbors. You act accordingly. If you have a junk pile, you might put it out of sight of your neighbors. If you like to sunbathe, you moght not want to do it where the neighbors can see you. If you want to be intimate with your partner, most of us prefer to do that without witnesses. There is an expectation of privacy on your own property, within your own boundaries. I live in a city, but we had great privacy from good fences. Then a developer built 2 story homes across the street with a full view of our rather large yard. We are not pleased that they can now see what we grow, and watch us as we work in our garden. I no longer feel comfortable wearing shorts and a bathing suit top on those super hot days. Tehy can see my little grandchildren play in the pool we set up in summer and I have had to make them wear swim suits. Privacy matters! People flying drones over your property feels like someone is looking into your windows. It is unnerving, even if you are just cooking dinner or watching tv! We can put gates on our driveways, fences around our yards, curtains on our windows, but how do we prevent people watching us from the sky?

    The FAA requires anyone flying a drone for recreation to take a free online “test” it’s more a course. In the course it clearly states that you must be able to physically see the drone at all times, this could include a spotter but the spotter must be close to the pilot. So I can say if you are flying low with trees and buildings you have to be pretty close to where the drone is flying. This could be they are either not following the regulations set by the FAA or they are standing on your property while flying. Also you are required to register your drone with the FAA and clearly mark your drone if it’s over 250g. That prop looks big for a drone under 250g so they must have to have it registered. Which is another reason they might have wanted the drone back because it could be traced back to them. If they registered it. You also have to take a pilots test at a testing center if you fly for any type of job.

    • @millesoc

      I’m not sure how much you could do, but it also whoever is piloting the drone would have to be following the rules and marking the drone with their FAA number. I know whenever I fly I feel weird knowing I can see my neighbors property even if I’m on and over my land. You can see a lot for up high.

Sometimes it’s so low we could jump up and grab it. I hold onto it and hopefully somebody will come to my gate looking for their missing object. The problem is no one can control the airspace only the FAA. Not even our local government could help us or assist us. on as time has gone on we have noticed our quite a disturbance out here on our land. I don’t know who what and when it had happened even with our deer cams out in the field our bamboo field has completely been destroyed. Bamboo is our business we grow bamboo from Rhizamoes,we produce sprouts, and then we are able to sell them in our food market palace and also on the Facebook marketplace. As time went on we noticed very suspicious activity on our land such as foot prints, gates being unlocked, and also our Bobwire being this place. It’s very sad and disturbing in this world if you want something just ask me if I can provide it for you I’ll give it but if I can’t then I can’t. I moved out of the big city out to rural America together Homestead going but the problem is people out to hurt anybody nowadays. Like you, I went down the rabbit hole researching our rights to privacy and was astounded that there is very little oversight on the matter.
