So the truth about Blue Apron is that there's nothing wrong with it and this video is useless clickbait?
No, it's that if someone doesn't know how to cook then it would take longer than how long they said it would take to finish cooking the food.
And the guy has no knife skills.. Or common sense hence why it took him an hour .. Ide put my quinoa to cook while I do all my knife work and finish the salmon off in the ends since it only takes like 6 minutes .. To cook on a piping hot pan.
Jose Rodriguez sounds like you're missing the common sense. If you watch the video, he does it by the directions. It isn't "common sense" to know how to prepare a meal in the kitchen.
Blahbasaur Time management is common sense. Most people worth a shit will read the entire set of instructions before moving forward and acting on them.
Louis Spataro First off, stop being an ass; second, no, most people are going to follow the direction IN THE ORDER THEY ARE GIVEN!
"The truth behind my bad knife skills and undersupplied kitchen"
Exactly. Learn how to knife. This video was a waste of time.
That was frustrating to watch
James Crawford umm here's the thing this is the audience that blue apron is made for, unskilled people who don't have those ingredients on hands or just starters so stop complaining
And not reading a recipe before you use it
Ironically, that is the point of the video.
This seems more like an issue of being able to follow basic directions.
Chris Lyons yeah
All the expense of eating out with none of the convenience!
Robert Turner nah mate he can barely cook, his technique is bad.
For only an extra 50$
Robert Turner I'd take me 5 minutes to make the Quinoa/Salad while cooking the Salmon, which I prefer baked for 15 mins.
Dargonante the guy is a newb... Not grumpy guy
Robert Turner I much rather eat my eggs with hollandaise sauce with caviar on top.
when the title says "the truth about..." I'm expecting a type of video that exposes what they're telling the truth about. 😭🤷🏽♀️
alexis coles ikr wth the title kinda got me watching the video.
alexis coles Somewhat click-bait, yes, but it does expose the truth about their biggest selling point: readily portioned ingredients for meals in a short timeframe.
alexis coles Watch This Shocking Tell-All Video Exposing the Truth Behind Click-Bait UA-cam Video Titles
Yeah I'm mad
I wanted some juicy secrets!
But really it's just people obviously not reading what they signed up for.. I don't live in America but one look at the company explains that they send you food to cook...
so I don't see the difference..
what are they complaining about exactly? That he cant cook? Was he not expecting to have to cook? Or do they just not understand that the time saving part is how he didn't have to go shopping for those ingredients..?
His knife is extremely dull.

Protip: You can cook Quinoa in a rice cooker with the same water ratio as rice (1cup quinoa to 2 cups of water). It will turn out just fine.
Luceloupgarou Will it turn just as fluffy? I never perfected quinoa. Therefore it sits there in the packaging for five months waiting to rot.
Yup, it'll be fine. I am pretty much incapable of cooking rice or quinoa without a rice cooker tbh, that's why I recommend it.
The way he made the quinoa made me think he's never made rice without a rice cooker
Good rice is cooked with 1 cup of rice and 1 3/4 cups of water or stock (stock gives way more flavour tho)
Dear people who don't know how to cook,
Please learn how to cut .Also a regular spoon isn't a teaspoon please use correct measurement.
Tombee 123 i think the teaspoon is the least of his issues.....
Did you see his fridge? Do you really expect him to have measuring spoons? Lmao
If I was going to spend the money to use blue apron, I would just eat out every night
It's so you can impress (love interest) with your cooking skills. Look at Brock, he would have all the ladies with his cooking skills if he only wasn't so obsessed with breeding.
Absolutely ! What a waste of time. Have your mom or a relative come over and show you how to make some basic meals. Better yet watch some UA-cam recipe videos. What a freiken waste money.
Not going to last. Your neighborhood supermarket could have this delivered to your door. In a minute you are going to be able to get seasoned pre chopped veggies and salmon delivered ready to cook when you get home. This is not going to last.
Squirtle, thank you! Thought exactly the same thing
lol yeah not like your mom or relatives have anything better to do than teach your lazy ass how to cook
They should have a prep time on it cause it may have been 25 minutes of cook time but not for the whole start to finish.
It could have easily been prepped and cooked within that time. He just doesn't know how to cook well.
venomjuker that is unlikely perhaps if you knew him and he undercooked something you ate you could get salmonella but not cancer.
Awsome Pokemax holy crap is sarcasm....
Everything is already prepped in the box girl lol he is just a noob so took him longer than 5 mins. Nobody takes 20 mins to chop a handful of veggies lol
Which is the good thing of blue apron. If he did this ten or so times, bam decent chef and if he were smart he gets some ideas on recipes and what needs to be plated, etc.
aw man i thought we were about to be served some TEAAAAA
Jessica Lee same it showed up on my reccomendations and i was like BLUE APRON IS CANCELLED
Your right blue apron probably didnt have idiots in mind when they came up with the design
Ramisa Yesmin haha
toohyphe505 jeezrick ironic huh?
I mean, when their core demographic is the lazy chef, not having idiots in mind seems like a bad idea
He's not an idiot. He just doesn't cook much. That just makes him ignorant when it comes to cooking.
Lol 😂😂😂😂
Who the fuck cuts anything sitting down?!
The elderly, obese and people with jobs?
So much salt over cooking! LOL
Cooking is the best use of salt
I do but then again I have a prosthetic knee.
Marco pierre did it once
I think these things are good for people who are recently living on their own and need to learn the basics of cooking.
i know how to cook even when i was living with my family smh
DestinationMan Fucking good for you.
Allison Koester so i’m guessing you don’t know how to cook then...
I do, but I’m saying that telling someone to learn cooking with their parents WHEN THEY ARE ALREADY LIVING ON THEIR OWN is so fucking condescending.
You don't really need your parents to learn cooking skills. The internet has grown so large that there are various sources which can be used to learn basic cooking skills.
you can just buy salmon, sear it, squeeze lemon and eat it in 10 minutes. chopped lemon does nothing on the fish anyway, time wasted chopping. eat a box salad on the side. screw the fancy stuff
Simon Zhao you eat the lemon...
Dani Neira no, he's saying squeeze the lemon on the salmon then eat the salmon.
awhoma a no he claims the chopped Lemons does nothing which isn't the case
eating chopped raw lemons isnt gonna taste very good, its just very sour
Doesn’t really matter it only took longer for him cause he suck at chopping
Cooking time... Not prep time.
this was an extremely informative video. however your could definitely do some research on how to cut vegetables and things a little faster. there is technique and practice involved, your station seems a little small. all in all sucking at something is the first step to being kinda good at something. great video.
Gotta be a YT vid on how to chop veggies with proper technique. I got the feeling he was kinda letting on to make it seem hard.
Also, the Dude should get should shielded hand-mesh, then he wouldn't even have to worry. My wife uses that all the time, and it's safest way to cut things.
Honestly I think him being a shit chef made it better. I totally agree his cutting technique is a 10/10 way to slice the tip of his finger off, few home cooks actually know how to... cook. BlueApron is marketed as something to supplement poor cooking knowledge, so if someone who is mediocre at cooking can't make the food properly, how can they claim what they're selling is quality?
venomjuker I think the point is that this guy in the video *doesn't* know how to use a knife safely lol
On the blue apron website you can find videos on how to properly chop veggies and other helpful cooking techniques. This can speed up prep time and save a finger.
Jacksfilms disliked this
are U sure?
fargotua13 it's possible, because he promotes blue apron in his videos all the time
oh, ok, so it is possibility
still blue apron looks cool and I endorse Jacksfilms
this was 2 years ago times have probably changed
JD 55 Wrong. It's an assumption based on the fact that Jack is frequently sponsored by blue apron and often says positive things about it.
What’s the point of this video? Everything went as expected except you’re bad at cooking and took forever to make the food. So what’s the smoking gun revelation indicative of the title “the truth about blue Apron”? Oh wait nothing. Why did you bother making this video?
My nigga
"The truth about how things take longer to do when you have no idea how to do them"
If you ended up watching the entire video, you already know exactly why he bothered making this.
Blue Aprons whole schtick is that it’s for people who can’t make this on their own. Anyone who knows how to cook does not need to buy a damn food subscription box. If their instructions suck, and it takes forever to make, that’s Blue Aprons problem.
"If their instructions suck, and it takes forever to make"
i hope you realize the only realistic solution to this is to mail people a box of cereal and a carton of milk, or just send them a stack of lunchables. the instructions were perfectly fine, and this stuff takes time no matter how good you are. these are legit home cooked meals, not instant shit from a box
I liked because of how many people he pissed off
CorathTheHung you prove my point
CorathTheHung They’re valid complaints. If you’re using this service, you likely don’t have all the utensils needed. I don’t see it as complaining. He found a way to work around everything and enjoyed it.
well no you need to have the equipment. This is not for someone with no equipment
Gabzo Avro If I cooked this at work, it would be easy. At home I've hardly invested in cookware.
Don't let this deceive you ,while this is more for inexperienced cooks there is a TOTAL lack of competency here if you are mildly family with cooking it's pretty quick (as a current customer). As a side note that knife is stupidly dull to hear it chopped pained me
QWERTmjl His knife technique isn't great but either. Stand up and cut smoothly.
His knife skills are legit painful. Dicing a cucumber should take 1 minute. Poor tools, poor technique made that prep stage take 3 times longer than it should.
Man, I have sharp as fuck knives and I'm a REALLY good cook, yet it still takes me like 30 minutes just to chop a handful of vegetables. How the hell do I do it faster?
xXt0x1c-sl1m3Xx Work smart, not hard. Cut the long way first, then the short way. Use a nice rocking motion with the pressure on the heel of your knife, not the tip. Use a large cutting board so you have space to work, not that dinky thing in the video. There are online videos on knife technique. And practice helps.
All really good tips. Thanks!
Honestly though Blue Apron just seems like a waste of money- it's not that difficult to make a list and go to the grocery store. It's pretty apparent, however, that you have no idea how to mince/chop things 😂
I'm well aware of what food deserts are, thank you. They're awful. Blue Apron isn't a solution to this problem - the people living in these areas can most likely not afford it.
Ted B. Smith People who lice in food desserts also tend to be poor. They're not gonna have money to spare for Blue Apron, they're also likely to never have heard of Blue Apron
+Abby It has nothing to do with capitalism, idiot. "Food deserts" exist in areas populated by welfare recipients who purchase mostly junk food on the taxpayer's dime.
Abby if you compare the cost to say takeout, and don't have time to go grocery shopping, it's a good compromise
Mr. White because junk food is much cheaper than healthier options
The guy took 20 minutes for the first step. He had no knife skills, that would taken a normal person 5 minutes or less...
Watching him do the meal prep in the beginning gave me anxiety
Most people going the Blue Apron route probably already are comfortable cooking their own meals, but even someone like the guy in the video would get good at it if he was cooking even a couple of Blue Apron meals a week.
nanoflower1 a big chain store could easily bankrupt this company. A big store like Costco or Walmart could easily set up pre-made kits at their stores for people to buy.
Sulfen Costco, maybe, but Walmart? I’d laugh in their faces if they tried
Sulfen yes they could do it but it would be really expensive for them
Sulfen you are underestimating the laziness of human kind. People are just really lazy to drive to the store, find the ingredients, and wait at the check out line. Some people just don't want to deal with the hassle of going to the store. And also trying to decide what to make for the night
You DID NOT just dice that lemon with the skin on!!! LOL
venomjuker get back to me when you learn to spell English. Can't even understand your comment
venomjuker lemon zest comprises the skin, not the bitter white part
The recipe said NOT to take off the skin and had no clear instructions on the amount I put on.
A. W. My bad...My brain literally stopped processing once I saw you chopping that lemon....but, now I see you're right. That's exactly what you were supposed to do. That's why I don't do Blue Apron...too fancy.
A. W. I dont give a shit im not eating lemons skin, if you dont like the dish then modify it, why make it and have something you dont like about it, like whats the point of making it?
2:23 holy shit, that sound made me die inside
It's his problem that it takes 20 minutes for him to cut 3 vegetables
He just cannot cook or cut for himself.
MrBamboobanga some people can’t. And what’s wrong with having ingredients and recipes sent to people. If you have the money why not.
A normal person would have done the first step in under 5 minuted lol
Just needs some more practice
Which is what blue apron is for tbh. Any decent home cook would know where and how to get ingredients
Considering you are not a pro at this, it came out damn nice! Under an hour! We've been on the fence to try since we are family of 5 and feel the portions would be be enough.
You need more than one for that size. My family buys 3 for 6 people.
The portions are filling. The option for 2 people is more than enough for two people. Sometimes I feel it could feed 4, depending on the recipe. Often times we have leftovers anyway. We don't do these every day, but the days we do have them the food is amazing. I think we've had a small amount of recipes that were, Meh, but most were amazing!
If you're cooking for 5, this is most definitely not the way to go. Buy your own fresh ingredients and polish your basic cooking skills. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to chop a few cucumbers, shallots and a lemon.
I don't understand whats so special about this, there's nothing time saving about it except for maybe saving you a 30 minute trip to the grocery store every week
Tehgziz Lauw even if you don't want the grocery trip it would still be more practical (and cheaper probably) to order groceries online since most shops have started to offer that. I order mine online and if I pick it up myself there's no extra cost while still saving a lot of time.
I agree Blue Apron dishes do take time, but they end up to be really good gourmet quality food. I am never able to get ths on my own, but it works somehow with BlueApron. I use it occasionally though
im more advanced in cooking so this looks like a sinch. this will help me decide if i wanted to go with blue apron to save time with grocery shopping and meal planning will be a no brainer. thanks for the video!
Me and my wife order from a similar company and from our experience we could honestly say that the best thing about these type of services are the recipes. The fact that everything comes in one package together simplifies a perfect meal. And let me tell you they are delicious.
The downside of course is the price...
Wait, you're supposed to eat the lemon rinds?
ArchangelExile I believe he said the recipe is salmon and "preserved lemons". Preserved lemons normally take a month to make and you would throw away the flesh and use the rind only. What they call preserved lemon is not preserved lemon and will probably be extremely bitter.
venomjuker When you zest the lemons, you're supposed to stop at the white part, but he threw the whole thing on
Yeah, that's what threw me for a loop. Usually, when people use lemon zest, they just use the surface, not the entire peel, lol.
ArchangelExile yes, the same goes for oranges. An orange's rind is extremely high in vitamin D and essential for healthy gums.
As others have said, lemon zest is the yellow outer part of the lemon, not the whole of the skin. Most recipes calling for lemon zest require you to finely grate the yellow part off, leaving the pith (the white rind) behind.
The only time you do eat the whole of the skin is with preserved lemons. In that case the salt and water combined with the lemon juice ferments the fruit and softens the skin so it's good to eat.
This seems like a quick version of a preserved lemon, which doesn't look appealing. It would still be very crunchy and sour after only 25 minutes.
This was exactly my experience with blue apron as well. Fumbled through the recipes but usually enjoyed the results
CLICKBAIIIT
It dreadful how he spent 20 mins chopping a lemon and a cucumber. Them another 10 figuring out a way to wash f-ing quinoa. 25-35 is perfectly reasonable time
But isn't blue apron meant for people who don't know how to do shit in the kitchen?
no.
might take me a few min to figure out how to strain quinoa without a strainer too... then again I'd know I need one before I started cooking it.
Hell, it didn't even know what quinoa was, and after finding out, I still don't want it. It's one of those foods no one heard about until some dipshit said, "here is the new trendy food" you can make and put on your stupid wood plank. Line up the sheep
I don't mind quinoa myself, but I agree, I am getting tired of people hyping the shit out of this food or that. Yes, they're good for you but some of the benefits are way overstated.
I quit using Blue Apron because some of our shipments had damaged produce, leakage of products which ruined the recipe cards, and then the meats weren't as cold as they should have been with the ice blocks melting. After this happened the 3rd time, I cancelled, even with getting some credit back to my account.
Tamara Sauls See I don't like the idea of ordering food online if it has to do with meat or produce. But if its stuff like cookies or crackers I'm fine with.
Tamara, this is the type of expose I was expecting from the title of the video.
Tamara Sauls Maybe you lived too far off from their factory?
Tamara Sauls thanks for information! !
I've ordered about 20 boxes and have never had any of these issues, the food has always been perfectly packaged and frozen- just giving a different perspective for the people taking this as the only possible experience.
I've been thinking about buying these pre-measured/prepackaged dinners. After watching your video, I'm more excited and motivated about never trying to cook and always eating out. I'm glad I watched.
Love this video. He does not have issues following instructions. That would be me and I cook once a week. I am researching if one of these companies to see if it would be worth it. I like cooking and would say I'm fairly decent at it. I just don't like cooking for 1 person. I could clearly buy the same ingredients at the local store and simply follow the instructions on the packaging.
You telling us the time prior to actually cooking was frivolous...there's two things in cooking. Prep Time, and Cook Time so like....remember that
I was looking for "The truth about those "time-saving" meals from blue apron"
Road to 100 subs with one video. truth is they NOT timesaving
Hey man you get better with time, this was literally your first time using knife skills. In time you can become really efficient in chopping and mincing.
“I feel so stressed”! That’s me when making some of these meals. At times, I have no idea what I’m doing! 🍷🤣
I think you would've saved a lot of time reading the instructions one time over at LEAST before starting- like a science experiment.
These services are so bad for the environment and just such a waste of time and money.
Dustin Lindsey People like you are such a waste of space and oxygen
LOL These services cause more waste then worth--all those boxes, plastics, throw-away-containers, and gas used to shuffle one meal back and forth daily to someone too lazy to go out and shop for themselves. The amount of needless trash this causes adds up quick esp if you figure in thousands of members. and FYI based on your reply I would guess you're the waste of space my friend.
Dustin Lindsey As if a single fucking box will destroy the entire fucking planet
It's clear you didn't read my response and are just trolling. :)
Henry Hui literally everybody uses plastic >.>
I did Gobble a couple times a week for about a year. First off, it was quite expensive. Some of the stuff was great, some of it was okay. Some of it arrived in broken packaging and distributed evenly throughout the cardboard box. It's basically a planning and prep service, and you get neat little packages with the right amount of herbs and spices you may not already have in the cabinet. There was still a fair bit of cooking, but the Gobble thing is more of a one-pot type of cooking, probably a bit easier than this. Kids rarely ate them because they rarely eat anything. I just seek out and try new recipes more often now and skip the service. My collection of herbs and spices at least grows this way...
I remember me and my husband got something like this through T-Mobile tuesday and we could pick out the dishes. It was nice but I rather just to to the store and but the items then wait for it to be delivered
This was stressful for you because you, it seems, don't cook. I wouldn't rule this out from just the first time. Cooking takes practise. Chopping and slicing takes technique, if you want to be quick at it. Also, cooking time does not include prep time, so that is why it took longer than you were anticipating. It should provide you with both times and a total of them combined, so that's annoying they don't. Lastly, you actually chopped that lemon up with the skin on??!!!!! 😱 oh god...
The skin isn't the zest. The very outside is the zest, the skin is the white part. Also it said to use the skin and it didn't say how much to use so he followed the unclear instructions.
all you need is practice. a box subscription doesnt magically make cooking any easier
I'm a teen now and I love to cook. My mom and I love doing Blue Apron and I love making the dinners. It's always a lot of fun and tastes really good.
Hey Will great video, I don't think Blue Apron had you in mind either when it came to your kitchen setup.
I mean chopping the aromatics from a small dining table, having to walk back and forth between that table and the stove.
You didn't mention how long it took you to prepare the dish vs how long they said ~30 minutes.
I just tried Blue Apron today, I don't think I'm a fan of it much either, it is very nice that they sent me everything that I would need to prepare the meal, except the salt and pepper and cooking oils, stuff I had on hand all the time anyway.
Before this, I would make dinner for the family, and cook everything from scratch, I typically spend about 45 minutes to an hour prepping and cooking a meal, this includes downtime sitting on the oven where I'm not in active cooking mode or anything. What I found nice about Blue Apron is that it kind of gets your palate out of your comfort zone, I never tried making anything with polentas and brussel sprouts before and today I tried and enjoyed it. However, with the right setup, recipe, and time to do the cooking I feel I can replicate most of these dishes off the top with a nice recipe found online. Blue Apron makes shopping for food to cook a lot easier because it's almost like Amazon'ing toilet paper (not having to leave the house, pick spoiled produce, finding the right cut of meat, etc) but through time I learned from cooking for my family the difference with things like pork shoulder and pork butt.
People who subscribe to Blue Apron should map out their cook time, cost per meal, time spent/saved at the grocery, and the overall quality of dinners to decide if it works for them or not, for me I think it's a soft no, however I don't knock their business model because it has potential to help a lot of people eat quality meals from the house.
Sometimes I wonder why people can't cook. I'm 24 and I had been cooking for myself and my family since I was 7.
2:23 HEADPHONE WARNING.
Evi1M4chine dumbass get off your high chair
LOL
Thanks. It give me the idea what to expect if I have Blue Apron.
Judging by his apartment, fridge and cooking skills..this guy knows the struggle all too well
I've been thinking about buying these pre-measured/prepackaged dinners. After watching your video, I'm more excited and motivated about doing this. I'm glad I watched.
I did Plated a while, and it was awesome. Except the food was *somewhat* expensive for two people. But, nice to try new recipes thru an easily fashion.
Poe Lemic Well You Can also just go find the recipies on their website (Then I'll often change Them a bit to fit my family)
venomjuker Dude, calm Down. It's not like I'm going to post some shitty review of these firms if my version sucks. That would be the same as if You bought a new car, added a foot spa instead of brakes and Then complain when You chrashed the car.
Katrine Petersen .
thats a great idea. who needs breaks? but a foot spa is always on fleek n shieeeet
*Jacksfilms*
It's amazing that THIS of all things was one of the most stressful experiences in your life.
We cook all the time and are always trying new recipes. We have most any piece of kitchen equipment one would need. However, it still takes nearly forever to make the Blue Apron meals because they don't account for the time it takes to read and pull out equipment needed, not to mention the fact that even for a skilled cook, prep time is longer. Even boiling water or heating pans adds several minutes extra time. The quality of the ingredients is very good; however, all in all, their recipes are basically a salt-and-peppered seared piece of protein with a side dish of grains mixed with greens. Beginners can learn from that, then take it on their own from then on.
Blue aprons just delivered you the ingredients. They can't increase your level of cooking. Master Miyagi is disappointed in this one.
Wow what a blunt knife you have there!
Perhaps no one noticed this was the "Tech Insider" channel. This is not a "how to" video. It is *supposed* to be a noobish experience. The single-techie-hipster living in a metro-micro apartment (with 2 beers and 1 carton of eggs in his fridge) is not the primary market for these fresh delivery services. It was absolutely enjoyable to see if someone with little to no cooking skill can pick up the instructions and execute the meal as intended. It was also informative (ex. In contrast to Blue Apron, Hello Fresh pre-chops many of its ingredients, which could cut prep time and difficulty immensely; potentially appealing to a wider consumer base). His final plated dish emerging from the kitchen would definitely impress a date.
Yep, I’ve tried a couple of these, and they always take longer than they say they do! I spent two hours on one once, which kind of defeats the purpose of doing this in the first place. Now I’m back to being lazy and sprucing up ready meals - I just bought a sausage and gravy ready meal, cooked that, then added my own home cooked cheesy mashed potatoes...that’s enough cooking for me, and it only took half an hour.
"Keen-Oa
Someone hasn't heard of KFC I notice!!
NeesaRakell ...Yes....but you get fries with that!!
NeesaRakell ..... You mean you would prefer spinach?
💡I think this kind of service is good for ppl who don’t have time to shop for the food but like to cook.
And it’s for ppl who don’t want to buy a whole box of one item or a special seasoning for a recipe that they probably never use again.
I love cooking and I’m not too bad at it but I hate going grocery shopping and I’m not very good at being adventurous so that’s why I like blue apron. I tend to always cook the same things so it’s fun trying new stuff
You have more patience than me...halfway through I would have tossed all the ingredients in the trash can and gone out to eat.
CaneFu lol
I got scared when they said prepare the salad.
Great vid and creative use of strainer.
Anthony Lau Yes, its very good DIY mesh strainer
M Dee if the paper towel has flavor then so would the lid. I have never heard of flavored paper towels
I personally enjoy buying my own groceries, and seeking out recipes for myself, it's fun learning to prepare a new meal. It's a challenge at times though.
Im guessing blue apron meant time saving is by not having the need to go to the market...find a parking.....pick up whatever supplies you need.... Wait in the line to check out and go home which can easily take you about 2-3 hours.. As opposed they do the shopping for you and save you that time instead? IDK... I don't have blue apron on my country but we do have some sort of delivery people where you pay them to do whatever work you need.
But why don't you have a mesh strainer...?
venomjuker To me or them?
venomjuker rly what?
Because he clearly never cooks!
It took him 17 minutes to mince and dice som veggies?
The time-saving part doesn't have to do with the cooking aspect of it. It has to do with not having to shop for them, drive to the store for them and it takes the effort out of having to try and make a unique meal at the top of your head while shopping. I will admit though... I tried using them and I just ended up with a fridge and freezer full of vegetables going bad because I missed a meal. Although I do have a crap ton of meat in the freezer for later.
Fun fact: Cook time is separate from prep time. Prep time is chopping everything and getting ready. Cook time starts when you well... Start cooking.
His knife skills make me nervous.
I think learning to cook would be your first step. Lol
One thing that you should try, if I may add, you need to sharpen your knife. Anytime a knife makes that noise is a telltale sign it needs a good sharpening or at least a good honing with a steel. It will reduce your prep time and it’s actually safer to use a sharp knife versus a dull one.
This dish would only take me a few minutes to make myself. Part of why it took so long was the slow chopping. But that can o my be remedied with practice. (And a good knife.) Once you get that confidence and muscle memory, it goes a LOT faster.
This just in, someone who doesn't know how to use a knife is really slow at prepping food. The meals might be prepackaged and premeasured, but they're not going to make you less shitty at chopping vegetables.
+Evi1M4chine prechopped they lose flavour faster
+Evi1M4chine prechopped they lose flavour faster
it looks really good :D
Be prepared to dispose of a lot of cardboard boxes and packaging ..it piles up...in the summer the fresh vegetables look rough because it’s impossible to keep items cold enough during shipping
I do the mail order meals and I always go over the time it says on the prep card and I’m about the level of a moderate cook.
Did you just cut up vegetables... not clean it... and PUT SALMON ON IT! OMG! That’s how my home ick teacher would yell if we did that. 💕
Do schools even still have home economics? I'm pretty sure most got rid of it
As a chef I cringed during this video. First of all, it’s common knowledge to not use the same cutting board for fish and vegetables. Second of all, he’s chopping is probably the hardest and most time consuming chopping I have ever seen! The fish looks dry and the fact that he didn’t even wash the cucumber disgusts me. Sorry to say this but I think you need to make a new video when your kitchen skills have grown.
I think he didn’t dedicate his whole life to cooking
KB RO you don't need to dedicate your whole life to cooking to know how to basically cook to survive mate.
Storme Brown fast chopping and washing cucumbers isn’t exactly skills that attribute to survival
maddie KAY damn son, got em
lise Johanne As a chef too, what worried me was his 'top rock' cuts, where is fingers are on the side of the blade and could have very easily slid down and under the blade, cutting the finger.
I really enjoyed this video; it was honest. there are levels you choose when deciding your cooking level. Newbie, Apprentice, Cook, and Executive Chef. I am going to assume he chose Newbie? But that recipe looked a bit harder.
It took so long because recipes don’t usually include ingredient prep time in their estimate. So all the slicing and dicing isn’t supposed to count. With a bit more cooking experience that step will only take you 5-10 minutes anyway.
To make this recipe easier you could just slice the lemon into discs and cook the salmon on top of it in the pan. No lemon dicing required and the flavour would be stronger.
Catriona of Doom agreed
I have blue apron... Not my fav
Rachel True I use home chef. I love it.
home chef is better because it has so many more options
seems like it took 3 mins 53 seconds to cook
As my dad would say, "it's not the machine, it's the nut behind the wheel." Your knife skills need improving. Food prep always takes the longest. I always prep my ingredients first before I cook. That way I know if I've missed something and am not playing beat the clock. Once the chopping and measuring is done, the meal usually comes together pretty quickly.
Services like blue apron really only remove the planning stage, I find that if you are busy they help but at any other time it's cheeper and nicer to plan and cook for yourself.
So many house wives in here who burn their husbands' meatloaf acting like they're the next Gordon Ramsay, lol.
An Asian guy who can't cook, amazing.
That's not what my dad told me when he was teaching me how to cook.
Simeon Wu Kwai then your dad was teaching you stereotypes as a kid.
yeah your dad was probably racist
Pretty sure it was cooking.
Most asian guys in the US can't cook.
Such an informative video. Basically you said it's good but takes time to cook...thanks for that.
They should let you know what kind of kitchen equipment you need before you order it. Like, I would never order something that needs a mesh strainer, 4 bowls, 2 cutting boards (for veggies and fish), a pot, a pan, knife and utensils b/c I Don't make that kind of mess when I could. I go out of my way to not make dirty dishes.
This is so wasteful and stupid. I don't know what's worse this or Amazon groceries. They accumulate tons of packaging waste, especially with the 10+ dry ice packs used in shipping. Watch cooking tutorials and learn to grocery shop. It's healthier for you and the environment. I wish UA-camrs would stop promoting things without consideration.
some people prefer this though
i for one dont but some do so maybe not be so judgemental about it
You don't know what you are talking about. Grocers contribute massively to food waste and promote over-consumption and bad diets. All the packing materials in BA or other services are recycled and you only get enough to make a well proportioned meal instead of dumpster bins full of half eaten/used items. A single large delivery truck distributing items is more efficient then all the buyers individually making their way to the store and back.
I have news for you if you think grocery stores are any better in terms of wastefulness
Amazons meal prep is a bootleg version of blue aprons... i dont buy the food on blue apron i just copy their plans like amazon
agreed. all those things could have been picked up with a brief walk through the grocery store, and probably for a bit less money too.
long story short, if you suck at cooking. you will still suck at cooking. Maybe read instructions first before you start opening everything. eats easier to begin if you know all the steps you have to do.
Do you drive in straight lines also? It’s cooking be flexible and taste allot.
The recipes are actually really delicious and pretty well thought out. I don't purchase the service but I do have a massive catalog of their recipes that I use to plan meals and grocery trips.
My one complaint is that the recipes call for a ridiculous amount of bowls sometimes. It will tell you to put an ingredient in a bowl, only to transfer it to another bowl with another ingredient. It's honestly weird how many bowls they expect you to have.
