This was PERFECT! I was actually researching these kinds of services last week, but it's hard to know what's the best. This convinced me unequivocally! Thanks, Matt!
I love Blue Apron. I have lost 25lbs over the last 6 months and I'm finally eating balanced meals. The extra cost is worth the time saved. Now my grocery shopping is just fruit, milk, eggs, and bread.
Great comparison everyone! Huge tip for first timers- sign up for the service with your email but dont complete the checkout. Wait a day or 2 and theyll give you 65 percent off the first order instead of the usual 50 percent!
I LOVE HelloFresh! It was totally worth it for us when my husband was alive. He was a huge overeater. The meals give awesome portions and no waste. We went from $260 a week (yes, big over eater) to $145 a week. Love it!
I actually started a subscription service (Hellofresh), because I wanted to cut down on the amount of food I was throwing away. That same week I threw out 1/2 pound of hamburger, 3 zucchinis, 2 pears, a bag of lettuce, and all of the accompanying packaging. The amount of food I was tossing with only being able to grocery shop once a week at most since I work a second shift job, was staggering.
JK9610 "recycling" aka they throw it away for u.... most "recycled" garbage actually ends up in landfill.... and not to mention all the carbon it takes to make all the packaging.... best thing u can do for the environment is not bother with these subscription services and go to the grocery store urself....
JK9610 Extra fuel is used to send the packaging back to Blue Apron. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Blue Apron just throws the trash away into the dump rather than recycle it.
Sierra Bird funny how your stomach can also shrink if you eat small portion long enough. I've been on a small portion diet for 2 months now and I can't even finish a BurgerKing burger anymore while before I would finish the burger with large fried and small side of onion ring AND a coke. 😂😂
Okay, but again this is a company that sells in America whose mission statement is not to help you get adjusted to smaller portions. It's not a diet-food company, it's geared toward American families who don't necessarily have the time or the wherewithal to shop frequently and make fantastic recipes by themselves. Because of that, Blue Apron is the clear loser. And I mean, I goes without saying that America is privileged in that we can eat healthily, but look at these two people who did the review, do you think they're overweight? We're blessed to live in a country where we can eat until we are full, and they were saying they did not even get there, so why pay more money for a service that barely gets you full when you can pay less for a service that's easier to follow AND gives you leftovers?
honestly i love blue apron. hello fresh is good too, but i feel like i learn more with blue apron. Hello Fresh is very repetitive. That said Hello Fresh is good
Blue Apron is definitely hilarious. Give you a whole thing of garlic for basically every single meal. I just used minced garlic anyway...so I’ve got like 40 cloves of garlic leftover
I just don't see a reason why someone would order these meal prep boxes when you can get a ton of food with the same price!! Even getting grocerys delivered to your door is much cheaper than this service. And internet is full of easy and free recipes you can use! If someone uses these I would be interested to hear why!
Zirconi because they work out of the box. You need to buy gorcery, wash and pick the greens (he put the spinach right in, they are pre cleaned, obviously), having to plan dinner so that the whole week is healthy (which for mean especially might mean pasta all week because not many give enough damns), look for the recipes... All these steps take time (and time is money), so I think it's not that strange that some people would choose to subscribe
And fiy I dont subcribe, but i think each person might have their own idea of what is good value for money, now if the prefer to have one less thing to think about and still get fresh and healthy meals, I don't see the problem (you can say it's preposterous to sloth on thinking about food, but meal anxiety is real and personal, i've seen too many). Moreover, they are supposedly supporting local farms by buying in bulk and in season, one plus point. If only a the plastics would be biodegradable, then it's perfect
Thanks. Tried out both and came away with the same conclusion: Blue Apron - meh. Hello Fresh - yeah, okay. None of these "box food" services is a deal. You definitely spend a boatload more cash on the food (all in packaging). Thanks again.
Cliff Vegas tbh this box food services are for people who don’t have time or don’t wanna spend the time shopping for ingredients to make a easy fast delicious meal
Meal subscription boxes seem like a great introduction into cooking. Seems like an easy way to learn new recipes without buying large groceries (spices, sauces) that you would never but again.
When I go grocery shopping I tend to overspend trying to stock up, so these recipe ingredient delivery services are awesome! I love to cook in the evenings and try new recipes, but it’s just my daughter and I so there used to be too many leftovers, with these it’s just enough for our dinner and enough for my lunch the next day. I LOVE getting all the healthy produce delivered to us. Home Chef and Terra Kitchen offer fruit and salad options, and Marley Spoon and Plated have unique recipes also. We switch off with all of these every week depending what fruit or produce we need or what meals we’re craving. I’ve cooked over 100 new healthy recipes in the past year with these services and saved money, plus we eat healthier. Most of the packaging is recyclable. ✌🏼
I've only tried Hello Fresh and really liked it. The cost vs benefit is subjective depending on your situation and the convenience. The thing I liked most is that I was able to try dishes I wouldn't normally eat and really enjoyed them. I kept the recipe cards and these have expanded my culinary repertoire!
Thank you for the information, Matt and Hollie! I currently subscribe to Door to Door Organics and I'll be sticking with them. D2D is not prepackaged meals. It's a box of mostly local, organic fruits and veggies with options to purchase other food items.
I haven't ordered from iherb lately but would consider them for pantry items. Door to Door is a subscription box of fresh, organic fruits and/or vegetables. I receive an order bi-weekly. The offer organic meats too.
I just ordered from Hello Fresh for the first time. Thanks for providing such great information about the products offered. I'm not quite as worried about my box now!
My problem is that I'm cooking for 2...sort of. My 9yr son is extremely picky when it comes to meals. He is autistic...so once he finds a meal/food he likes..that's all he wants for weeks at a time. I end up cooking daily just for me. **before you screamers start complaining that I don't cook for my child..i do. In big batches-I sneak veggies into the food he is locked on-freeze in small personal portions for him to reheat.** I haven't found any of these food boxes that would be worth getting at all just for one person.
ok if you’re son has autism then something like blue apron shouldn’t even be in the question wtf? just go to the store and get what he likes which i assume is probably like 3 things
Birdman TV if you fuckimg read he does buy stuff for his child. he clearly says twice that he shops just for himself and cant find one worth it for 1 person
WorstCriticEver well, take into context the amount you would spend to buy each of the ingredients........but certain things are not supposed to be for everyone. There are ppl sho bring home $400,000.00 a year soooooooo yeah the company was aiming to pls those who can buy it.....
Sexy Star In other words, the high class individuals of America aka the 1 percenters or rich people, LOL! Noy intended for middle class or poor people of America?!
I’ve always thought they marketed more to people who only order takeout or dine in. This would be cheaper than eating out every meal, but not cheaper than buying groceries (in the long run). I could also see if being cheaper if someone does not do well coordinating weekly meals based on similar ingredients.
I used blue apron and it came in a bag already measured out and the only thing in the recipe that didn't come in the box was olive oil, salt and pepper.
His assessment is exactly right. These services are for busy professionals who have the money to use these. Of course anyone can use them but realistically, there comes a a point where the price outweighs the product. I considered a service like Blue Apron cause I wanted less food waste and to be more experimental but this convinces me not to. I would probably use it to try out some recipes every once in a while without having to commit to large portions you get at the store but I'll think I'll stick to grocery shopping otherwise.
I had tried the Blue apron meal for my family but it was very disappointing! not only the portion were small, the amount of plastics packages and boxes got created so many garbage!! Also it took more time to cook because you have to read the recipes and separate the ingredients that you are familiar with and didn't give me satisfied meal for that money I spent
I have tried Blue Apron, I didn't find it value for money. But the Hello fresh is good. Ingredients measured and packaged per meal and waterproof recipes with accurate information, simple to follow. All recipes turned out amazing. Price per service $10 is bit too much but you are getting a healthy chef meal with least efforts.
We tried Blue Apron. I was very impressed by the freshness of the produce especially. I found sorting out the box fun the first time, then it DID become like a chore. It was nice to not need to go to the grocery store because I was suffering neck and back pain at the time. I liked the recipes but exactly as you stated in this video, there wasn’t any leftovers. That can be a good thing for some people, but we like to have at least one serving of leftovers to tote to workplace. The family missed our regular recipes that I am sooo tired of making.Stopping the service & restarting was absolutely no issue, they had great customer service. A couple comments on the price...yes you can go to the store and buy those ingredients cheaply, but there can be the additional expenses from the add-on purchases, those other “good deals, “ the Easter product clearance junk ...also I think these meals in a box with the photos of every step are a good way for tweens to start learning to cook. So I think it is a fun thing to do now and then to break up the monotony.
Just subscribed to Hello Fresh and they have improved the environmental impact of the packaging. Pretty much all the boxes and plastic are recyclable and they have an ice pack return program. The separate meals come in paper bags instead of cardboard.
I feel like I got far more with Blue Apron vs. with Hello Fresh. I feel like Hello Fresh had the smaller portions and Blue Apron had the higher quality food (tasted better overall). Maybe that's just my opinion though. I agree that Hello Fresh has the superior boxing but that was about it. You did not even show a plate for Blue Apron!
Damn. Take it easy. At least thank them for their input. OP didn't even give you the time of day, and Syniphe wrote out a comprehensive reason why they prefer BA, when they didn't have to. Hell, they probably have way more experience with subscription services than OP does. If you want OP's attention so badly, DM them. Ungrateful nuh bloodclaat.
I haven’t tried HelloFresh but I’m 3 weeks in and I love the variety of Blue Apron. I was bored with what I normally shop for so I needed a change. Only one meal that I’ve hated so far. But I gotta find a way to get rid of all this garlic...
$70 to have food delivered to you? (I know its premeasured) The only logical reason for people to buy this, I think is if your maybe trying to learn how to cook and are pretty clueless or your a super busy person and cant go to the grocery store for an hour.
Rhinopocalypes or you’re just tired of throwing away food that you never ate because it was too much. Recipes online are good but they’re usually for more than two people. I’d even try to reduce the ingredients to suit my family of 2 but I’d still be a waste. When the recipe says half a cup of sour cream and you have to buy a 16oz of it because there’s nothing smaller, or a whole bag of spinach when you only need a cup. These boxes send you the exact amount, now my fridge is “empty” in a good way.
*I will stick to Aldi's where the cart is extremely overfilled with tons of meat, veggies and everything in between to feed a family of 3 for a full month, I pay $140/month. Those subscription services are ridiculous.*
Yeah i agree even at aldies $140 doesnt feed even me for 1 month let alone 3 kids it does fill up the cart pretty good though for that 1 trip however with them only having 4k items they dont have everything i want or need so there is no way 140 is enough
Yes! Someone tried to argue with me that my grocery bill was the same. Yes it is the same, but I am buying food for 6 people for breakfast, lunch AND dinner (and snacks) and not just 3 meals for a dinner for 4 people a week.
I loved hello fresh for the way it was set up and how organized it was. I liked the taste of it but it was expensive. You don't get the value of shopping on your own, but it does save money compared to eating out. I actually saved the recipes and still make them on my own.
When I was on my own, I did Blue Apron for 4 months. It would have been exorbitant to feed a family that way, but for one woman it saved enough shopping time that it saved money (food & gas & time, plus not having to buy oversized packages). I do think the pasta dishes were significantly overpriced. The meats were high quality.
I've actually been researching the two online, but hadn't really found anyone who had done a direct unbiased comparison, so this was really informative. Thanks!
i dont use these services but my mom loves blue apron because they send sauces and spices for each dish in exact amounts that she would never buy in bulk either cuz she couldnt use that much of a specific sauce or cuz she wouldnt know where to buy any around here blue apron also sends you produce that is in season, as opposed to grocery stores that are expected to stock everything all the time nowadays regardless of if its in season or not
I've never tried hello fresh but I did try blue apron and came to a similar conclusion. It's fun to have the box arrive but for a family or if you're on a tight budget it's not really for you.
Hello Matt, my husband is a traveling contractor. I started using Chef'd while in California. I loved it. Food was very high quality and there were leftovers for his lunch. California food is expensive so that was a savings. I also tried using Blue Apron. It was good, but not Great like Chef'd.
I've also tried both Blue Apron and Hello Fresh and I agree with your assessment. Hello Fresh was the winner for me...although they have since changed some of their packaging I still feel they are a better service than Blue Apron
I tried both Blue Apron and Hello Fresh - I preferred Hello Fresh. Then I tried Martha Stewarts box called Martha & Marley. I compared them to Hello Fresh - even a touch better. So far - Martha also included free gifts in some of her boxes and best of all - I could do just two meals a week instead of three that Blue Apron and Hello Fresh had as the lowest amount of meals. Plus the price was just $49.00. I agree - just gave me something different to make and keep the recipes too.
I'm just now trying this type of service. Before I saw this, I went with Hello Fresh so it sounds like I made a good choice. I like the fact that Hello Fresh would let me see the types of meals they have before signing up. Blue Apron would not let me see meals until I paid (not cool). With the discount for the first month, it was a deal for 2 people. I enjoy not having to go to the grocery store and having the ingredients show up ready to cook. I'm waiting on my first box so the jury is still out on whether the meals are good and whether I'm saving money.
I have been trying out different companies and I totally agree with you about these two. I've also tried Home Chef, Pantry Boy, Sunbasket and Terra's Kitchen. Fun to try, but none of them have sold me enough to continue purchasing at full price.
I think it's a really bad testament to our society that services like that even exist. The only thing you save is a little bit of time to go to a grocery store (time most people can easily make up for by not playing with their cellphones for - 30 minutes). I currently run our household of 2 on $12/day (for food) - that is 2 meals for 2 people = 4 portions (we don't do breakfast) which means we pay about $3/portion. Yes, I spend about an hour in the kitchen every day including cleanup. Take that together with shopping and say it's 90 minutes for shopping, cooking and cleanup every day. Of course some days it's more some it's less - 90 minutes is the average and of course I don't go shopping every day - I'm just averaging the time spent. For the $3 per portion I can't do NY strip steak, but I can do fresh tacos entirely from scratch (including the tacos - which once you had homemade fresh tacos you'll never go back to those nasty packets from the store). I can do sushi, I can do all sorts of things that don't require ingredients exceeding $3/portion. For me it's a challenge to go lower - ultimately I want to try a $1/portion month, but that will be stretching it. In my book the cheapest and healthiest way to eat is to buy and cook yourself. People come up with all sorts of excuses why takeout, eating out, delivery services etc. are required to live. They're not, they're conveniences.
This has to be one of my top 10 videos I've wanted an honest comparison of these meal companies and you nailed it thanks sooo much, this was a great video.
Been using Blue Apron for like 2 years now. When you're used to huge portions (a la Italian or Spanish, like I am) it can be hard to adjust. But the food is SO good. And the recipes are different to what you probably do all the time.
Thanks Matt. We tried Blue Apron and found the dishes good but does not compete in value with buying my own groceries and prepping my own meals. Much better value in buying groceries. The recipes were good. We did not renew after our trial offer.
Great video! I've tried many and would only possibly do Martha & Marley Spoon in the future, because the recipes/quality was awesome! Besides that, I couldn't justify the price as I spend $150 per person per month for incredibly delicious, filling, including organic foods (and paper goods, etc.) 3 meals a day. With a bit of planning and some couponing, you can really save a ton on gourmet meals. And these services are not simple... it's still a ton of time and dishes (I'm a chef) :)
Hi Megan! My biggest tips are to really study (lots of sites online) how to do coupon matchups, plus look for weekly sales. Also, we eat more simply now and cook once, and eat leftovers or changed up meals for 3 nights... like get a bunch of chicken and do a few nights with chicken, veg, etc. then another night in tacos, or pasta. Also, I do a lot of meal prep so I'm not tempted to go out (which we almost never do). Finally, eat by season and buy produce that is in season, and don't feel bad about using frozen veggies. I also cut out most dairy recently, which saved a ton of money, too! Good luck!
I'm trying out Hello Fresh for the first time. My first delivery will be this Sunday. The only thing is that there isn't an option for 3 people. I had to select the option for 4 people which of course is more expensive. I'm looking forward to trying out Hello Fresh, but I don't think I can use it more than once a month. It's just too expensive for 3 dinners a week. We still have to take care of breakfast, lunch and dinners for the other 4 days of the week.
I just ordered my first hello fresh box and this happened to come across my timeline. So happy i made the right decision. Cant wait to make my first meal
Haven't tried Blue Apron, but I have tried Hello Fresh and Home Chef. I prefer Home Chef to Hello Fresh because they just have more options, and I don't eat red meat/pork, so the extra options are nice! For both services, I've found the recipes are easy to make and usually taste pretty great. I have been wanting to try Blue Apron, but your experience has me considering not doing that.
reason I stopped Blueapron. at first the recipes were good with mixing it up. then eventually it was the same old sides and mains switched around. by that, 1 day-pan seared fish with fried rice. 2nd- seared chicken with fried rice. 3rd seared chicken with sweet potatoes. and a million sweet potatoes. it got so boring. then eventually 90% of the time some important ingredient was missing. I sometimes could go with out it, but others I had to drive to the store to get it. I must've wrote them 8 times to tell them. still wrong. I stopped
I had the same problem with missing ingredients - the last straw was 2 out of 3 knick knacks bags missing. Cancelled subscription. Will try Hello Fresh and see if they are any better.
I feel nearly the opposite on your reviews. I don't mind loose items in the box (with Blue Apron) because one point is less waste. Blue apron has less (packaging) waste and who has room for those huge (Hello Fresh) boxes in the fridge? My fridge is nearly full already, and Hello Kitty takes up an entire shelf by itself when you leave everything in their packages. Food portions? STARVING? REALLY? LMAO... I don't want extra food to put away for leftovers later. Hello Kitty is much more basic and less challenging. Blue Apron stretched me and taught me more about flavors and actual cooking processes. PLUS Blue Apron is $10 less than Hello Fresh. (to me, a single man that gets the 2 person package, already have twice the portions I need, so I am getting 6 meals from the 2 people [x3] kit). I used to over eat. The BA portions are perfect for me and I'm still full. BTW, I am 6'4" 260 and it's more than enough food to eat. I have yet to eat a serving and feel hungry or starving. LMAO. I found BA to be top quality, delicious and more of a challenge to cook, and found HK as basic less challenging and simpler recipes. So if you want to pay MORE and have simpler food recipes with less of a cooking challenge, by all means, pay more for less. If you enjoy high quality, near gourmet recipes, less waste, for less cost, try Blue Apron. *ALSO- Blue Apron delivers the package to my door without a signature by UPS. I've never had a problem with a delivery. Hello Fresh requires a signature and it was some random guy (not uniformed, not professional looking) in a white van (YIKES), and luckily I just so happened to be home when he came. I don't know what they would do with my package if I wasn't there when they came, but he was a bit creepy. Let me define "challenging" = I don't mean it's hard or difficult, just more involved, more detailed and BA challenged me to prepare, organize and pay closer attention. I could cook HK without their recipes or their ingredients without a lot of thought, and I've cooked nearly the same things before from the HK choices, so there was no excitement or anticipation. I would have never tried the Blue Apron recipes without this service and recipes cards. I am more satisfied cooking a gourmet meal and having it turn out near perfect to my tastes and my budget, plus I am challenged. My end result is; Blue Apron is the better choice for me.
This is super helpful, so thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I also appreciated the chuckle as you referred to Hello Fresh as Hello Kitty in much of your review. :D I knew what you meant. ;)
Alan Kluttz Same. I've not tried HF but I have looked thru their recipes and they don't seem nearly as challenging or creative as BA. BA portions were plenty for me as well and I never walked away feeling hungry. BA includes ingredients you wouldn't typically buy at the store and if you did they'd be crazy expensive. I'm honestly kind of surprised at the conclusion. HF doesn't seem worth the price because of how basic the recipes are. At least with BA I'm getting something new that I wouldn't think to try.
We tried Blue Apron two weeks ago. Here's my review: 1.I don't like that you can't select the meals you want (to an extent). There are only a few combinations they offer. So you can select a meal but another meal may not be available to combine with that one. 2. As being an inexperienced cook, I found the prep time and some of the cook times to be substantially longer than the allotted time. There was one that took me 2 hours, which I wasn't even hungry at that point because of being frustrated. 3. I did like the freshness of the food and the portion control. We go to the grocery store and waste a bunch of veggies and other items in some of our recipes. 4. I agree that the amount of food that it makes is not worth the money. We never had leftovers (which we love to use for lunches the next day), and to be honest was not a huge fan of some of their tastes. For the price, not worth it. We are going to try out Hello Fresh here within the next couple weeks. So we're hoping to have a better experience.
If you aren't working at a minimum wage job meant to be worked at by teenagers... yes. Hell, even a waitress with an average of $14/hr could technically afford these in many places... although not necessarily financially comfortably.
I work at FedEx as a package handler and I see Hello Fresh boxes quite a bit, so I decided to look it up. I decided to try it out, just placed my order, since it was my first time purchasing on their app, I received $30 off of my first order with free shipping. Cost for first time was $9 and some change!! 😎
We subscribe to both depending upon what meals are offered for the week. So we will switch between the two, skipping meals on one service for the other. We get three meals for the two of us and almost always have enough leftovers for another meal. So we actually get 6 meals, making it cost effective for us in the long run. We've rarely had meals we didn't like and often find recipes we will make again. I think it's an adventure and love cooking something new and, usually, healthy. I do sometimes get tired of all the bloody kale, however. Both services use kale WAY TOO MUCH. I've had more excellent meals from Blue Apron, but Hello Fresh meals are usually quicker and simpler. When you consider the time it takes to find a new recipe, determine what ingredients you need, go to the store, trying to find the best quality meats and veg, then only using a small portion of the entire can you had to buy...I don't think the price is unreasonable. So different opinions are important. Two olives? Really? We've never encountered that stinginess in either service.
I used blue apron but cancelled due to the way I could not pick the meals. If I wanted a vegetarian meal then it wouldn't let me pick certain meat meals. They offer six different meals each week, I ordered 3. Wish I could pick any 3 of the offered. I enjoyed the quality, but due to the way they packed the box often things would be squished or bruised. Had fun cooking with my 12 year old niece, a great way to teach her the joys of cooking. I guess I'll try hello fresh next. Thanks Matt!
Hollie is adorable!!! Two olives lol! Laughing so hard! Thank you for the honest feed back. This may be good for a different family set up. Say one that travels a lot, and wants a healthy easy option for a teen or older child at home who can cook safely. But not budget friendly if you are on a tight one. ;-) lol. 👍🏻 Thanks for the info! 🤗
Thank you for the details on these subscriptions....everything from the pricing, shipping, freshness and quality of product, cooking time, and amount of food, etc. This was most informative! I've been very curious. So, thanks for the info!! Love watching you!!! Oh, and the interns too!
Ashley Spencer obviously I’m not talking about the ppl that are incapable of going shopping...I’m talking about the lazy ppl who supposedly don’t have time to shop but have time to spend hours on social media or on their phones
ivi122 - I love Hello Fresh because I homeschool three small children and it’s crazy going to the grocery store with them to shop. Let alone trying to meal plan after a busy day teaching. It works well for my family of five.
I, personally, use Home Chef and have found the recipes easy to follow, food looks pretty much like it does on the big recipe card, and everything tastes great! I am on a budge but found that I am eating much better and cheaper with this service than if I had gone to a grocery store to buy the individual items needed form these recipes.
I subscribe to hello fresh and I love it. I tried blue apron and home chef as well. I liked hello fresh slightly more. It's only 2 of us so we get the 60.00 box. Grocery shopping is cheaper, but this is more convenient. Plus we normally eat out if we don't have buy a box that week so it makes sense financially for us.
I’m so glad I saw this because I’ve been looking into these two food services. I thought the comparison testing was informative and gave me the answers that I needed to decide. Thank you so much.
My family and i have been using hello fresh for the past month, we are obsessed! i wouldn't say we are saving money by using the service though, if anything its more expensive, but it just makes dinners so much easier for me! here in NZ our meals come in paper bags instead, wish we had the boxes though!
My wife and I just had our first Hello Fresh box delivered to us last week. We decided to give it a try because it is just us, no kids, and we both work so time to cook is limited. I cannot stand having to throw food away that we cook and aren't at home to eat it so it goes bad. With this service, you get just enough food for one meal, three nights a week, plus perhaps a tad bit of leftover, and there is no throw away. I personally think it is a bit expensive, but for us it's still cheaper than what we would spend at the grocery store, and we don't throw away food. Plus I hate going to the grocery store. ;-)
Thanks for the Blue Apron/Hello Fresh comparison. We've been using Blue Apron for about a year and love it. We are too busy to plan meals and eating out was the norm. I'm eager to try Hello Fresh now that you posted this. My LEAST favorite part of Blue Apron is figuring out what ingredients go with what meal. Boo!!!
I did HelloFresh for a month during a discount period a couple months ago. I thought the pastas to be the easiest. Just FYI for anyone interested: HelloFresh puts each meal in a paper bag now instead of a box. My brother has been doing Blue Apron for years, so I guess he likes it. I thought the HelloFresh meals were bland; they needed more spices. There was only one meal during that month where it was something I'd eat again. I did get double meals (fed me for 4 days instead of 2) out of the pasta dishes, and for the taco dishes, I'd eat 2 first, then re-heat the 3rd a few hours later. I just felt it was too much work and too expensive for blah food.
I was going to buy blue apron as a gift I’m glad I found this video before I bought it! Thank you thank you! Wish you had an affiliate link I would use it.
Well a lot of people have priced these out and this would actually be cheaper for you for a few reasons. One is that when you go to the store you tend to buy more than you need and thus wasting. Also, with the food presented to you in bulk at the store, you tend to buy more. That being said, you still need to go to the store but at the very least, you have three dinners ready for you and with possible leftovers. I'd say it's worth it. I already spend like 100-120 a week at the grocery store. So I spend 60 on dinners and then get some bread and other essentials. It would probably be the same or less and I'd have actual meals.
No leftovers, perfect portions are kinda the point for Blue Apron. It was initially made for people who are cooking for one or two and who would buy food in bulk, only to have it spoil in the fridge (like me) I love Blue Apron, but I think I'll give Hello Fresh a try based on your review.
The quality of Hello Fresh now (2021) compared to this video has drastically gone downhill. I came here to see if Blue Apron was better as I'm canceling my hello fresh.
Many people complain about the pricing of these DIY meal places. But these companies provide a service, especially for people who are tight on time due to work commitments but still want to eat healthy. It's a niche market and definitely not for everyone.
I had thought about trying both of these box meals but after watching your demonstrations I can see this just isn't for is! I could get enough food for 2 weeks for what you paid for the box meals. So thanks for making that decision for me! Keep those greet deals coming!
People come up with anything to rip off other people's money. I received $50 gift cards, went to the website to check it out and the first thing it made me do is put my credit card info, without me even getting to see what the content is.
This was PERFECT!
I was actually researching these kinds of services last week, but it's hard to know what's the best. This convinced me unequivocally! Thanks, Matt!
Thanks for watching Stephen!
+the deal guy so how much do they cost and which is cheaper?
I got the 2 person package and Blue Apron was $10 less.
Thank you, Alan! We're all a mutually supportive "Deal Guy" community! So Blue Apron was less. What are your opinions on quality and quantity?
We really like plated. Tons of different meal to choose from and they will do three servings .
I love Blue Apron. I have lost 25lbs over the last 6 months and I'm finally eating balanced meals. The extra cost is worth the time saved. Now my grocery shopping is just fruit, milk, eggs, and bread.
How much does it cost? How much do you need to pay per month?
And slimmer wallet
@@tausiftaha12 $68 for two or around $140 for 4 portions a week. Kinda worth if you go out to eat or have a bad habbit with overeating
so you have a subscription and you STILL have to go to the grocery store 🤔 doesn't seem worth it
Great comparison everyone!
Huge tip for first timers- sign up for the service with your email but dont complete the checkout. Wait a day or 2 and theyll give you 65 percent off the first order instead of the usual 50 percent!
Hellofresh or blue apron?
I spent $100 on a local Asian grocery store with shrimps, squids, fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, snacks and it last for a week for 2 people.
I like eat potato yum yum potato yum
SuperDooperKooper *ROBLOX Gaming!* a
Mmm... I haven't had good seafood in a bit. I need to go back to my Asian grocery store. They always have the best shit. Hungry now >.
SuperDooperKooper *ROBLOX Gaming!* umm Asians eat a lot more. How can you be full with just a salad
I have a Asian grocery store in walking distance
I LOVE HelloFresh! It was totally worth it for us when my husband was alive. He was a huge overeater. The meals give awesome portions and no waste. We went from $260 a week (yes, big over eater) to $145 a week. Love it!
did it help you eat healthier or did you lose weight?
May He rest in peace.
Sorry for your loss.
With that being said... HOW DO YOU SPEND NEARLY $150 A WEEK ON FOOD??? I never go $200 a month!
@@parkourfreak114 Have you ever ate out at a restaurant?
@@redman7412 😂😂😂😂😂
Both are expensive but the idea of it is very nice
100YrsOldFetus I said depends how many people you’re going to eat for it’s about $60 for two people with HelloFresh that’s 6 meals for one person
The amount of garbage you create per meal is astonishing with either subscription service.
Pooh Bear just throw all of those things In a one pan. Or a soup
Blue apron's waste is recyclable and you can send it back to them to recycle
JK9610 "recycling" aka they throw it away for u.... most "recycled" garbage actually ends up in landfill.... and not to mention all the carbon it takes to make all the packaging.... best thing u can do for the environment is not bother with these subscription services and go to the grocery store urself....
JK9610 Extra fuel is used to send the packaging back to Blue Apron. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if Blue Apron just throws the trash away into the dump rather than recycle it.
The reason a lot of people are still hungry is because they are used to much larger portions than they should eat.
Sierra Bird I agree. In america our portions are way too big. So that's probably why people are still hungry with Blue Apron.
Yup, I remember working at a restraunt at Disney world and the intentational students being amazing on how big the portinysizes are
Sierra Bird funny how your stomach can also shrink if you eat small portion long enough. I've been on a small portion diet for 2 months now and I can't even finish a BurgerKing burger anymore while before I would finish the burger with large fried and small side of onion ring AND a coke. 😂😂
I find as long as I start the day with meat I'm. Fine on small dishes.
We're blessed to live in a country where we can eat until we are full, and they were saying they did not even get there, so why pay more money for a service that barely gets you full when you can pay less for a service that's easier to follow AND gives you leftovers?
blue apron sends you enough garlic to start a business of your own. my friend has a huge pile, & I know where to go to get some when I need it ^^
honestly i love blue apron. hello fresh is good too, but i feel like i learn more with blue apron. Hello Fresh is very repetitive. That said Hello Fresh is good
Blue Apron is definitely hilarious. Give you a whole thing of garlic for basically every single meal. I just used minced garlic anyway...so I’ve got like 40 cloves of garlic leftover
Lawl
agreed!
Lol. I would love that. Extra leftovers for another meal!
Zirconi agreed! I'm a Manager in sales and don't have time during the week so I signed up!
Zirconi I value convenience over money and this is just very convenient and easy lol
So basically, it's very much worth the extra money in my opinion
Lawl I got blue apron and ate both portions and was still hungry.
Crispy Crunchy Ellie ASMR r u good bro why eating a lot
Crispy Crunchy Ellie ASMR - That's funny.
Who's Lawl? lol
LOL. yeah...that happens unfortunately :( Depends on the meal. But why do you think America is so fat? We have no concept of control when we eat, lol.
Worlds of Wood just fat. No just kidding 😂
Thanks. Tried out both and came away with the same conclusion: Blue Apron - meh. Hello Fresh - yeah, okay. None of these "box food" services is a deal. You definitely spend a boatload more cash on the food (all in packaging). Thanks again.
Yes.
Cliff Vegas tbh this box food services are for people who don’t have time or don’t wanna spend the time shopping for ingredients to make a easy fast delicious meal
There pretty good imo, from the ones I had, my fave was the chicken pineapple quesadilla
Hello 👋
I am going to use this service when my kids move out. Now how do I get them out the house? lol
Have they moved out yet?
Use it when they are there. That’s kinda selfish

Chris S Have you ever used Iherb? I have heard great things about them and their Vegan or Vegetarian options ...
I haven't ordered from iherb lately but would consider them for pantry items. Door to Door is a subscription box of fresh, organic fruits and/or vegetables. I receive an order bi-weekly. The offer organic meats too.
That sounds cool! I will have to look them up. Thank You!
I just ordered from Hello Fresh for the first time. Thanks for providing such great information about the products offered. I'm not quite as worried about my box now!
Awesome! I'm sure you'll love it and thanks for taking the time to post!
Wats the best meal?
How did you like it ??
My problem is that I'm cooking for 2...sort of. My 9yr son is extremely picky when it comes to meals. He is autistic...so once he finds a meal/food he likes..that's all he wants for weeks at a time. I end up cooking daily just for me. **before you screamers start complaining that I don't cook for my child..i do. In big batches-I sneak veggies into the food he is locked on-freeze in small personal portions for him to reheat.** I haven't found any of these food boxes that would be worth getting at all just for one person.
rottygirl2003 Does your son play "Call of Duty"?
REEEEEEEEE
ok if you’re son has autism then something like blue apron shouldn’t even be in the question wtf? just go to the store and get what he likes which i assume is probably like 3 things
Birdman TV if you fuckimg read he does buy stuff for his child. he clearly says twice that he shops just for himself and cant find one worth it for 1 person
You could have just said you can't find a meak kit suitable for one. Whats with the life story preamble?
I prefer blue apron, but after 3 months I cancelled the subscription because it's TOO Expensive!! you can buy 3 times the ingredients with $50.
@diesaltrading I do not toss anything. Most people do not have oney to waste.
@@Michelle-pn9xt yet they still waste food
Both meals are about a penny per calorie. And while the math is pain at that small amount to think about, it's clearly too expensive.
Calvin Sanders groceries in general are expensive and all depends on the plan you chose .
Sexy Star but money isn’t an issue for black people since they are on welfare, so....
Where are the spices???
Basic spices are from your pantry
I used blue apron and it came in a bag already measured out and the only thing in the recipe that didn't come in the box was olive oil, salt and pepper.
hello fresh sends you from the breadcrumbs to the lime & all the seasonings you’ll need for each recipe.
Now we know why Blue Apron and Hello Fresh are considered one of the best, if not the best meal kit delivery company.
This host is so awkward and adorable, I just found this channel and love it already 😆
Thank you :) I don't get out much! Really happy to have you here.
Thanks for the info Matt. I have always been curious about these food service meal deals!
Second that - great information...
Now we know why Blue Apron and Hello Fresh are considered one of the best, if not the best meal kit delivery company.
I don’t know about blue apron but with HelloFresh I’m satisfied what kind of plan did you choose?
Syniphe Ykant wasn’t talking to you lol this isn’t ur comment section .
WorstCriticEver rude
Captcha Neon If there's one near you, also try Lidl's, it's a bit like Aldi's, not as good but there is still a few good things I get from there.
Thanks Maxxmann, I've not heard of it but I'll definitely see if I can find one.
Wait $140 a month? Are you even eating that's insane lol
Thanks!
i dont use these services but my mom loves blue apron because they send sauces and spices for each dish in exact amounts that she would never buy in bulk either cuz she couldnt use that much of a specific sauce or cuz she wouldnt know where to buy any around here
blue apron also sends you produce that is in season, as opposed to grocery stores that are expected to stock everything all the time nowadays regardless of if its in season or not
I highly recommend HelloFresh
I've never tried hello fresh but I did try blue apron and came to a similar conclusion. It's fun to have the box arrive but for a family or if you're on a tight budget it's not really for you.
I have always wondered about these 2 services! Thanks for doing this video! super helpful! 💕💕
IMO it's not as cheap as hiring a uber guy to pick up the groceries using order pickup at whole foods or some other store
I think its cheaper to go to the farmersmarcket and buy organic.
Cheaper and better for the planet.
The boxes have way to much rubish...
Now we know why Blue Apron and Hello Fresh are considered one of the best, if not the best meal kit delivery company.
Hello, Kim.
I have been trying out different companies and I totally agree with you about these two. I've also tried Home Chef, Pantry Boy, Sunbasket and Terra's Kitchen. Fun to try, but none of them have sold me enough to continue purchasing at full price.
Hello, Susan.
Uwe Schroeder $3 a portion?!? Are you a bird?
This has to be one of my top 10 videos I've wanted an honest comparison of these meal companies and you nailed it thanks sooo much, this was a great video.
Now we know why Blue Apron and Hello Fresh are considered one of the best, if not the best meal kit delivery company.
Diana Darling teach me your ways! I'm spending that much a week for two people 😵
Good luck!
Now we know why Blue Apron and Hello Fresh are considered one of the best, if not the best meal kit delivery company.
Now I know why Blue Apron and Hello Fresh are considered one of the best, if not the best meal kit delivery company
You have more packaging than produce and a landfill disaster at your fingertips
I just ordered my first hello fresh box and this happened to come across my timeline. So happy i made the right decision. Cant wait to make my first meal
I like your approach to sales, very tactful.
Thank you very much for watching and for the post!
I tried Hello Fresh and I loved the meals. We also had leftovers but I felt it was a bit pricey to suit me.
Now we know why Blue Apron is considered one of the best, if not the best meal kit delivery company.
This was great, thank you! I had been curious (but money *is* very much an issue) and wondering if these were worth the expense.
They are not even fat! Blue apron fills you up FINE. I dont know why they think they need more.
:D I knew what you meant. ;)
Some people want an easy meal, or have more than one person to feed
Alan Kluttz Same. I've not tried HF but I have looked thru their recipes and they don't seem nearly as challenging or creative as BA. BA portions were plenty for me as well and I never walked away feeling hungry. BA includes ingredients you wouldn't typically buy at the store and if you did they'd be crazy expensive. I'm honestly kind of surprised at the conclusion. HF doesn't seem worth the price because of how basic the recipes are. At least with BA I'm getting something new that I wouldn't think to try.
This comment was way more helpful than the video. Thank you.
hahahah oh my god why did u call it Hello Kitty
We tried Blue Apron two weeks ago. Here's my review:
1.I don't like that you can't select the meals you want (to an extent).
So we're hoping to have a better experience.
will 40 hours of work pay for these meal boxes🤔... just saying... 🤔
bmworld What work?
If you aren't working at a minimum wage job meant to be worked at by teenagers... yes. Hell, even a waitress with an average of $14/hr could technically afford these in many places... although not necessarily financially comfortably.
Depends on how many people and the budget your willing to out and why not just check for yourself instead of commenting on UA-cam lol?
I work at FedEx as a package handler and I see Hello Fresh boxes quite a bit, so I decided to look it up. I decided to try it out, just placed my order, since it was my first time purchasing on their app, I received $30 off of my first order with free shipping. Cost for first time was $9 and some change!! 😎
I feel like these meals are more of a treat than everyday cooking
AND IF YOU HIT A SQUIRREL OR GROUND HOG WITH YOUR MOPED.....ADD THAT TO THE RECIPE AND WOW, YOU GOTS SOME GOOD EATIN THERE BUDDY
Dude has a giant head or tiny body wtf, also thanks for the solid info.
Expert Arteta you know he reads and sometimes responds to these comments
Love the way you open with, a very calm, "Hi"!
2:33 that looks so real lol
looks like from the comments that a lot of us were wondering about these food services... i really appreciate your reviews of them!

I don’t understand the point of ordering form either one. Why not just go to the store and get your food?...lol wow laziness
Ashley Spencer obviously I’m not talking about the ppl that are incapable of going shopping...I’m talking about the lazy ppl who supposedly don’t have time to shop but have time to spend hours on social media or on their phones
Ashley Spencer and why do you care about what my opinion is anyways?
Ashley Spencer ok have a great day
Why you watching this... So u can raise ur pinky n snob at the people that want this smh.....😂
ivi122 - I love Hello Fresh because I homeschool three small children and it’s crazy going to the grocery store with them to shop.
Hello, Nancy.
dry pasta , canned tomatoes , onions .....these items cost pennies , so cheap in the store ......paying for this service is going to be a rip off !
Very pleased to have this comparison! Great video!
If You really need a subscription based service to make overcooked penne pasta. Take that tie of sir. You are no adult.
My method take a recipe I got online that looks good go to the store
I’m so glad I saw this because I’ve been looking into these two food services. I thought the comparison testing was informative and gave me the answers that I needed to decide. Thank you so much.
I get Hello fresh, and I really like it. They have been super responsive if there are any quality issues with the box.

Boo!!!

Always wondered about these food "subscription" services. Thanks for the info Matt!
You are ahead of the curve yet again, Matt! Your timing is perfect, including the drum roll. Thanks!
Thanks Matt. I have been researching these food subscriptions but it's best to hear from someone who has actually tasted the product
The quality of Hello Fresh now (2021) compared to this video has drastically gone downhill. I came here to see if Blue Apron was better as I'm canceling my hello fresh.
I tried Blue Apron last week and just opened the box for Hello Fresh. I do like the packaging much better on Hello Fresh.

Many people complain about the pricing of these DIY meal places. But these companies provide a service, especially for people who are tight on time due to work commitments but still want to eat healthy. It's a niche market and definitely not for everyone.
thanks for comparing these two . For me , I think it would save me money to go grocery shopping, but I could see this for some people. Thanks again
I tried these for one reason. To learn to cook. After a few weeks I cancel, but it improved my ability to plan and cook meals
