A friend of mine once had a beauty products shop here in my hometown back in the 80's. Black kids would enter her shop in groups and distract her while shoplifting. She would call the police on them and the kid's parents would come in afterwards to give her crap for snitching on them. This has been a problem for Black communities for decades and the root cause is people's refusal to take responsibility for their actions and hold others accountable.
The fact that the NAACP is siding with the wrongdoers and even demanding an apology from a Chinese rapper for misappropriating a Black musical style (literally saying that non-Blacks are not allowed to rap) shows how pathetic they really are.

If nobody is prosecuted or even arrested for shoplifting, and the store is no longer profitable, as you said, they have a legal obligation to the shareholders, and the only solution is to close. Any other special circumstance security measures that could be implemented, would immediately be called racism, and lead to expensive to defend lawsuits.

Boston community activists and city government leaders know the real reason Walgreens is closing their stores, but refuse to be truthful to their constituents about how thieves are stealing from their neighborhood stores to the extent that they need to close them down.
If these community activists really cared, they would pool their own money together and open stores similar to Walgreens so people have somewhere to shop. When will their first store open?

Sadly ...I worked for a similar store chain that closed its doors too... the truth is the corporations don't really try to catch thieves they figure they buy more than they steal. The other overwhelming truth is the brick and mortar business model these type of chains use does not work anymore. Covid and the pandemic caused most customers to use mail order drug companies and lease prices are out pacing profits as well as rising drug price gouging. This is the truth.
If you want the perks of a civilized society, you have to foster a civilized culture.

I was a shift lead and pharmacy technician at an inner-city Rite Aid out in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. I swear, I will never work in a Black neighborhood ever again and, big surprise, they shut the place down back in 2022.
My cousin worked in a gas station in a black area once. She worked behind bullet proof glass, and got a ride to work, and picked up so her car wouldn’t be stollen.

I grew up in a black neighborhood here in NYC (East NY), and it is a fact that they have absolutely ruined the entire city/county. There’re several neighborhoods in Brooklyn alone that was once a thriving and vibrant area because it was ran and inhabited by Italians, Greeks - Whites. Then “they” moved in and absolutely ransacked all of these once thriving neighborhoods. Wherever they go, whatever they touch, they destroy. It is irrefutable fact. The “good ones” are exceedingly rare, and they usually don’t stay long in all-black neighborhoods. An old fast food Chinese spot I used to frequent was looted SEVERAL times by “teens”, and the owner was shot and killed. He was an Asian man that did nothing wrong. He had been there for decades, and saw the decline, but stayed because he wanted to service the “community”. Sad shit.

My sister and bother in law work in management in retail pharmacies. They explained to me that the pharmacies themselves don't make money. The pharmacies actually lose money, year on year, because Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements are consistently lower than the cost of medications, or are cut outright. They rely on their retail stores to make money, because the pharmacies are continually in the red. So it doesn't matter really, how many patients are coming from the dialysis center etc etc etc. Because it's not the *patients* that makes the money. It's the retail store that needs to make money.
