I drive a 2005 Avensis 2.2d 4d, doesn't even have a dpf but I still watch every video on this channel because I'm learning something, sadly there are those in all professions who would prefer their punters to remain ignorant. Thanks for being helpful Jimmy, and thanks for sharing what you've learned.
Who cares what other people think about what your doing please keep up the videos love watching them and learning about dpfs and how to fix the problem rather than destroying parts with regen
don't let them get to you Jimmy! there are always naysayers out there, but remember you have 47.7k subscribers that believe in learning from you. A good mechanic tries to and enjoys learning how to be better from information like your UA-cam videos. even the best mechanics can't know everything and look for someone like you to help.
I'm a mechanic in Australia that specialises in diesel tuning, diagnostics and servicing. Seems like you guys have the same problems our industry has in regards to understanding and diagnosing dpfs. There are so many workshops and dealers that have no idea how to diagnose and fix dpf issues, their solutions are always just to force a regen and send it out the door. Even simple things like resetting oil dilution every service is something that no one even knows about. Its ridiculous, especially when the most popular vehicles in aus are diesels. Btw, Your videos are pretty much the most informative videos about dpf diagnosing that I've come across, and I've seen a fair few in my time haha
Thankyou for your knowledge share i am a time served mechanic over 36 years and still, learn new things every time i lift a bonnet and your videos have helped me improve my quality of service to my customers 🍻🍻
Education should be free. Don't feel bad. I used to explain to all my customers what they had to do and they still gave me the work. These garages need to pay you to give a course. Lack of knowledge is lack of knowledge. I have a B.Eng. from Oxford in electronics and engineering. I am a P.Eng. and an AST Fully qualified here in Canada. I am still going on courses at 65 to learn more. I love your videos even though I have never done a DPF clean. I am ready if I get one.
Knowledge is never free it has value like everything else and is only available to those who persevere to advance themselves...and of course it's big business.
Quite right to air your concerns and opinions Jimmy. Those complaining are a bit short sighted. Reputations are important and are built through solid work and customer satisfaction. Your client base is growing because you actually fix issues that others don’t or can’t. Just watching a few videos of yourself at work has given me some key knowledge regards what DPF’s are about etc which is good to know when maybe having to deal with an unknown ‘DPF Tech’ or ‘stealership’ ‘mechanic/technician’. Just got my daughters DPF (2013 XC90) fixed along with a couple of other items that were directly associated with it. We’ll see how long it is before anything else ‘pops up’ but for now it’s all good. Amazing what dropping some ‘info’ does to ‘guiding’ a mechanic or technician into giving the best of service.
come on jimmy you are way to hard on yourself, its not your fault there are so many crap mechanics in the business including main dealer mechanics just in it for a quick buck. i have watched all your videos and become quite a dpf expert in the fact that i know the underlying problems that can cause dpf issues, watching your videos you have saved me and my family and friends thousands of pounds in garage bills, and are of the opinion that the vast majority of garages dont know what they are doing with regards to dpf problems, god half of them dont know how to test sensors for faults, so you just keep up the good work and educate these people, they need it. i will always be forever grateful for the invaluble lessons you have taught me thank you jimmythebiz
I left the trade because I was sick of working with ignorant asses, now I am in engineering but on road based vehicles, and it's crazy how the hgv "technicians" I work with don't know dick about dpfs or how they work, they'll do a forced regen on one of the trucks without even taking it for a drive to properly warm up, replace the same sensor over and over again or even steam clean the inside of a dpf occasionally (which surprise surprise doesnt work) lol
Jimmy I know you personally and I can assure you there isn't a garage or mechanic in the UK or larger scale that hasn't watched one of your videos regarding a dpf fault. I for one have watched many over the years when I've been stuck as nobody knows everything, but when it comes to dpfs and cleaning you are top tier at what you do and sharing the information that you do!!!!! So much respect from me 🤙🤙🤙
I think most of us really appreciate what we can learn from these videos. You helped me to diagnose 1st an empty eolys tank on my father's pug 207 then last weekend we did a dpf clean with your method on the very same car (it had the "additive injected to the dpf reached the maximum value") thing. Many thanks again for sharing all of these and letting others know how to deal with them.
I support your comment regarding mobile DPF cleaners, i did contact a local cleaner, did the job, reset the fault, paid the fee and a couple of weeks later the fault reappeared, lost trust with the mobile cleaners, thank you for sharing and keep up the good work.
After my transit custom went to the garage five times with the same problem (blocked DPF) I came across your channel and fixed the problem myself, if the garages did the job properly, fixed the fault not the symptom then you wouldn't have to let us know why garages keep messing up, keep up the good work Jimmy
Well, cheers Jimmy. I hear you but it’s just a symptom of a bigger problem really. The whole Diesel Engine emissions industry has evolved into another way to fleece customers legally with no accountability. The fact you are busy every day with all this just proves my point. Manufacturers and dealers have got it to much there own way.
Once you put yourself out on the internet you're always going to attract the haters unfortunately. Luckily most people are reasonable folks and appreciate what you're doing. Keep up the good work!
When I trained as a mechanic 50 years ago one of the first things I was told is....If a fuse has blown dont just replace it, find what caused it to blow and fix it first or you will be doing the job again. It applies to everything but seems to be one basic rule a lot of people never learn.
Jimmy do u know how u can tell u're doing something good/positive? It's all about intentions, like u said u're trying to spread awareness teach people valuable knowledge, some people will not like it, tough cookies for them, u cannot please everybody. The negative feedback says more about the ppl leaving those comments than it says about u, keep up the good work master Yoda Jimmy, may the force(d regen) be with u.
You help fix my Land rover Evoque DPF problems with your videos. Had a mobile guy come out charged me £280 and fault came back within 100 miles. Followed your videos and car has been fine for 6 months/5 thousand miles. Thank you, appreciated.
Keep doing what you're doing and sharing your knowledge and helping others. Its bit like the valeting and detailing industry no one what to tell, show or help others to do it right. Theres enough work for everyone. Ive been enjoying learning new things especially on dpfs. As ive had a couple customers saying a garage has told them they need a new dpf just because the dpf light comes on. David
Exactly Jimmy. Check and make sure all other engine systems and parameters are working properly. My Civic 2.2 iDTEC did it's own active regen last week whilst driving through town (I thought the engine was breaking down). It felt like the brakes were binding and didn't want to pull properly. MPG bar guage plummeted too. After ten minutes it started driving fine again. I plugged in my diagnostic tool and it showed it had done a successful regen and 0.6g of PM.
Thank god for jimmy and youtube. I have learnt a lot from your goodself and educated myself as a DIY mechanic. The diagnostic & thinking part of the videos is so good. Thanks Jimmy, you have helped a low income family keep a good diesel on the road and running well!!! 💪👏👏👏
You gave me the confidence and knowledge to start this journey, I’ve invested time and money ( that I’ve made back ) and I’ve not failed yet on one Dpf project ❤
I don't even have a diesel car now. I used to have a skoda estate diesel. I got bit when it went wrong and got it fixed and sold it. I have learnt so much from your videos mate. Keep up the awareness you are sharing. I have pointed a few fellows at your channel so they can learn.
You have helped educate people to know they're getting the right thing done, now it's up to the trade to sort their act out and not keep doing the wrong thing for people. It is brilliant to watch your work and methodical faultfinding, rare these days when they just read codes and follow what it says to do.
Your videos are great, Jimmy! You help both sides by educating those in the business how to do a better job or do it right first time and you help people with the troubled vehicles by showing them how to not get ripped of by someone who doesn't really have a clue what they are doing. I remember years ago a 'mechanic' who was totally convinced that jump starting a 12 volt vehicle with another 12 volt battery gave the vehicle 24 volts!! What you are also doing, Jimmy, is showing that there are mobile mechanics that genuinely know what they are doing and understand what they're doing as well. Too many people just think that knowledge equals power, whereas the reality is that knowledge plus understanding equals power.
Keep preaching Jimmy you might just make them see the light... Having watched all your videos for the past year I can say I'm about 80% there with knowledge acquired from the Channel 😊😊
been watching these vids for a while now. the main thing i have learnt is if i do have a problem diagnosed as a blocked dpf, then you have to find how or why the dpf has blocked b4 you clean the dpf. sound knowledge. thank you very much.
Jimmy I have been watching these videos for about 12 months, during this time I have sort a Ford kuga with a vaporiser issue and blocked DPF and recently a quasqui with blocked pipe and faulty pressure sensor. Luckily I bought a top don scanner which has the capability to do the resets. Without your help with the videos it would have been impossible.👍😀👍👍
You know what you are doing Jimmy is right. Protectionism never works in the long run. More and more people aren’t going to work on their cars so it is an expanding market. Sharing your experience is a bold move but shows how good a person you are. You have helped me. In the USA no one knows about small diesels let alone DPF and SCR systems. The complainers should concentrate on building their name first. Take care.
As a regular car driver your videos have been a great help in understanding my own vehicle as it has got rid of many worries that I'm going to face some enormous bill in the future, and I can see that if it needs cleaning in the future it is a fairly straightforward fix for a mechanic to do. It is also really helpful that I now know what I should ask a mechanic what they intend to do to fix it before booking it in. If they are giving the wrong answers I will point them them to your videos. I'm a mechanically minded person and love to learn a share knowledge. Keep up the good work. 👍
The problem is people don't realise the difference between a fitter and a mechanic ... even when employing them , the other problem is anyone can say they are a mechanic.. your doing a great job mate ..
Yes ,that's make sense ,you have to diagnose what is the cause of it. No, you are not trying to give bad thoughts for other garages. Don't worry about what other traders are saying..if you know what you are doing you are good at it..if you don't know what you are doing, you are bad and clueless...l have a question. I am a diy er enthusiasts fixing cars ..what technical data do you recommend?
Dont listen to them. I really appreciate your videos, and im sure,im not the only one. Since i've got a same Vivaro B,i managed to change the bad glow plugs and clean/check that pressure pipe as preventive maintanance. Thank you
Thanks Jimmy for another video. It's shocking the motor industry is so lacking in DPF knowledge this is caused by manufacturer's & main dealer's needing a replacement parts business. They don't want the small guy fixing anything.
Your amazing - I appreciate your advice. Had nothing but dpf issues on golf mk vi after I had the egr valve decoded - having it put back in soon 👍 Need to sort the cause. Cheers Sue 😊
Your channel has helped me massively with vaporisers and upstream pressure sensors etc etc. please ignore the haters and keep doing what you’re doing!!!!!
You're a top bloke Jimmy if ever I have any issues you're the guy I'll be contacting as you're not to far away from me, simply because you've learnt how DPF's work & I know I won't be wasting money taking my car into garages & not getting the fault fixed. You have mentioned about doing long journeys for over half an hour helps & I do two hour long runs in a week so fingers crossed I won't get any DPF problems but there's still the adblue side of things which is a bit of a worry. Keep up the great work.
Jimmy , since you have been putting your videos out ,so many techs/mechanics in out job have been educated and pointed in the right direction how to go about fixing tge job as you do correctly so many people buy a bit.of kit , call themselves specialists , buy.thry are simply.not special , your videos are very good, straight to the point well done 👏 ✔️, and as a mechanic who has.been in this job 44 years, every day is a school day 😂
Hey Mate, I have watched your videos and you have shared a lot of knowledge regarding DPF. A massive thank You bud. Haters are always gonna be haters. Much much appreciated.
I think the problem is mostly attributed to lack of product knowledge. I was a qualified full time vehicle tech in a main dealer from school until I was 30. Correct diagnostic is the key. You have to train to competently understand these complex emission systems which takes time and money. As you said a decent tech cannot just plug in a diagnostic and blunder through. As a sobering fact...when I worked in the main dealer out of nine techs only 3 of us were fully qualified to national standards . Totally agree with all your comments. Keep it up.
Keep doing what you’re doing Jimmy, can only help the industry. If mechanics don’t realise they need to move with the times they need to get out of the game. Times change and engineers/mechanics/technicians need to move with them.
Top job again. A big Difference here is that you are Educating yourself because you are genuinely interested in what you do and want to be the best you can be which is rare in a garage nowadays, it’s lack of training or willingness to learn that is the big issue also. If you don’t know how it works, you don’t know how to fix it.
Hello, Looking at your interventions here from nirth america , l'm very thankful that you are sharing your experience and knowledge, you are blessed. A very big thought for you. Take care of you because you are dealing with poisoning fumes. Thanks you again. Terry.
Jimmy, you've hit the nail exactly on the head: The small vociferous minority are definitely in the wrong, and it is you who has the right attitude and mentality. There are deep ills throughout technical trades in the UK as such skills have been devalued over decades, and what comes to the fore is guesswork, sloppy standards and unnecessary expense for the customer. Please keep doing what you do and hopefully this crusade will gather momentum and achieve the necessary change.
I have learnt so much from watching your videos and i can honestly say your an inspiration . Why shouldn't you share your knowledge. Its your perogative and its also true that even if you have told people how to fix the problem 99% of them would still ask a mechanic to do the job so i dont think its effecting the trade in any way. Keep up the good work. 👍
Keep sharing we need honest genuine people sharing the knowledge for someone like me who runs there own business with a vw crafter with the dpf light on
Yes you’re correct and doing nothing wrong take no notice of the doubters keep showing up the bad mechanics and dealerships you’re videos are great and informative.
Brilliant, it's just too easy to swap parts willy nilly without actually diagnosing what is wrong - a real mechanic does what you do - diagnoses what is the problem then fixes it. I love watching your videos, keep it up
Excellent information well presented, I have been on the expensive DPF merry go round and only got off it via a mechanic's educated guess to change a sensor.
I think its a brilliant channel i never force a regen just find and fix the issue causing the problem clean the dpf then send them away happy transit vapourisers just clean and remove glowplug fixes them near every time great fun well done Jim your old school like me
I watch your videos back in your home country and I would love if somebody in Ireland had your knowledge because nobody has a clue about DPF's over here, keep up the great work and get on to launch uk to set up over here 👍🏻
Hi Jimmy , if other garages are complaining about your videos ? That’s like the vehicle manufacturers complaining about Haynes manuals or any workshop manuals out there to help people save money by doing it themselves , I don’t get it & not only that , we all know if you need any information, it’s all on the net (well most if it is) no matter what it is there will always be someone who shares their problems or fixes , this is social media nation now that we live in so they will just have to suck it up im afraid . I understand where they’re coming from but this is to be expected nowadays . People as we know just don’t have the dough to shed out loads of cash for these repairs some unnecessary like you say a DPF replacement when the real underlying problem is not identified causing the DPF to fail in the first place that can be fixed for a fraction of the cost . Good honest person like yourself makes UA-cam worth watching . Like some have commented, I too could watch every single Vid you post on here ( even if same vehicle ) Ford Transit , Renault / Vauxhall / Citroen / van / car just about anything 🤗👍🤝😅
Im a forklift mechanic (soon to be self employed). Ive always said to my customers "if you want to fix it yourself, more power to you, I wouldn't pay me to fix something i could fix myself"
I have learned such alot from watching your videos, how to understand live data and use it to fix the problems not guess, my work is going towards dpfs as other garages are sending them to me. I hear exactly what you say from the customer been to numerous garages they were unable to do a regen then they are stuck or chuck parts at it. The same people would rather do a timing belt or a clutch
The videos that you’re putting out is a brilliant as your more information and experience you have its great to share with the world , the cost of the New DPF it would be worth buying the equipment to like you have as they want thousands for a new Dpf
Jimmy, your doing a fabulous job , im here to learn ,ive been in the business over 48 years and im learning from you ...your cant please everyone however youve 47 000 you do please, i can bearly please my wife 😅
In my opinion there's a difference with being able to rebuild an engine and being able to diagnose. One is an easy step by step procedure and the other requires an analytical mindset. I think the analytical mindset started to dwindle in the 90s when the standard knowledge regarding points/timing and fuelling adjustments became less and less relevant as fuel injection became more popular. I know many mechanics and fortunately they are upfront with regard to their strengths and weaknesses and importantly they know who is and isn't the person to go and see locally. I imagine this cycle will happen again with EVs having an increasing presence on our roads.
The ones that are emailing you bitching about what you are doing are the mechanics charging an hourly rate while pricking around with their amazon OBD scanners doing forced re gens. They are afraid their customers might see your videos and realise how it's supposed to be done.keep up the good work
Got a Volvo xc60 2010. Had soot filter full, engine service required and limp mode a few times since purchase 3 months ago. I believe there is an underlying issue. My local garage have attempted a couple of forced regens. They aborted the second one as the car was misfiring at 3000 revs. They spoke to a specialist who suggested fuel injector issues. I just don’t know what to do with the car.
Absolutely - I design large mechanical A/C / ventilation systems for a career. I understand what these people feel that comment asking you to stop or equal....but the thing I have learnt over the years I can tell anybody about the ins and outs of my job but they will not have the courage to do it or do it for someone else without working under direct supervision for a period of time
Hi Jimmy your right keep doing the vids great .I'm a very technical person learned loads from you .only problem where do I get dpf cleaning fluid to spain .where I moved to .all the very best .let the soft arses moan might make them do a proper job and find issue that caused dpf blockage 😊
Hi Jimmy, what was the underlying fault?. I had issues with my dpf on my mk8 transit, numerous cleans which didn't help. I did some research on the issue and a vehicle should regenerate itself when you drive for so long. My fuel vapour valve was blocked up with soot so my van couldn't regenerate itself, I replaced the fuel vapour valve, took it out for a long drive and fully fixed the dpf issue. That was 3 months ago and around 3500 miles ago, I'm no mechanic but I have a real keen interest in it. To save money also.
Only a very few vehicle owners would attempt to diagnose and fix their own dpf problems but many would like some idea before they take it to a garage so they can keep an eye on the work they are paying for.
If there wasn't so much bull shit over pricing & lack of knowledge at mainstream dealers then punters wouldn't be looking for the likes of your service. Your system works nuff said
Thank you for the great videos and information but i am a little confused in terms of you being againt doing forced regens, and you say find the issue stopping the car from doing a regen, on this video at the begining you said you have fixed the fault but didn't share what the fault was with it! I get quite a few DPF issues with high differential pressures, not always caused by a fault but more often failed attempts at a regen due to short trips which you did mention. In those cases there is no fault just the driver not giving the car or van a decent perodic run. I see you holding the throttle at around 2.5 to 3k to get the Dpf hot once you have put ur cleaner in to it but cant see the difference with a forced regen or just holding the trottle fixed as you do? Also the first thing i do when diagnosing a car or van for a Dpf issue is to scan it to see what fault exsisit that may stop it regenerating. Thanks for all your hard work and great advise i just find the forced regen advise verses the 3k rpm hold on the pedal a bit confusing. Kind regards Jay
In my humble opinion you are doing an amazing job at educating mechanics and owners please keep your great work 👍
Them DPF specialists you talk about have obviously visited your UA-cam site and done a bit of online training, your a good instructor thank you

Most important message to owners of diesel vehicles with DPF! Cure the problem, not the symptoms!

If i ever have a problem with my dpf i will.trailer it to you as im in manchester. I trust you that much
So would I
some geezer on one video done like a 4 5 hour trip to him! im lucky he is very local to me! big name around here
@lu34lyf I'm only 10 minutes up the road from him, PLUS I have a Vivaro and I'll be going straight to him if my develops a DPF problem 👍

Jimmy its nice honesty from you to highlight the short comings of garages with DPF systems. Well done to you!!!
Keep preaching Jimmy you might just make them see the light... Having watched all your videos for the past year I can say I'm about 80% there with knowledge acquired from the Channel 😊😊
Well done Jimmy. You have saved me a fortune.
Ask the the DPF cleaners what their previous occupation was, it was probably drive way jet washers, rain gutter cleaners 👍
Your telling the truth mate simple as that keep up the good work
been watching these vids for a while now. the main thing i have learnt is if i do have a problem diagnosed as a blocked dpf, then you have to find how or why the dpf has blocked b4 you clean the dpf. sound knowledge. thank you very much.
Haters gonna hate Jimmy, keep doing what you do mate 💪🏻
Thank you
Jimmy your honesty and integrity is priceless..thank you
Typical other people think you're damaging their business rather than learning from you sharing that useful info.
As an autoelectricain i can watch ,understand and enjoy your video's
Thanks for the great watch every time
Its good to hear someone talk about DPF and adblue faults on cars and vans i work work with this problems most of the time its down to owner faults
I have been in this trade since 1986 and your information definitely is definitely a benefit, thank you
Thanks Jimmy for another video.
Hey Jim, your doing a great job 😊
I've learned so much from watching your videos.
Not just the Dpf stuff .
Cheers mate keep up the good work 👏
You're a top bloke Jimmy if ever I have any issues you're the guy I'll be contacting as you're not to far away from me, simply because you've learnt how DPF's work & I know I won't be wasting money taking my car into garages & not getting the fault fixed. You have mentioned about doing long journeys for over half an hour helps & I do two hour long runs in a week so fingers crossed I won't get any DPF problems but there's still the adblue side of things which is a bit of a worry.
Keep up the great work.
Jimmy keep doing what your doing buddy you've certainly helped me out these complaints are from guys who are ripping the punters off
Im a mechanic and your videos taught me alot were always learning
Hello,
Looking at your interventions here from nirth america , l'm very thankful that you are sharing your experience and knowledge, you are blessed.
Well said and good for you.top man
I have learnt so much from watching your videos and i can honestly say your an inspiration . Why shouldn't you share your knowledge. Its your perogative and its also true that even if you have told people how to fix the problem 99% of them would still ask a mechanic to do the job so i dont think its effecting the trade in any way. Keep up the good work. 👍
Keep sharing we need honest genuine people sharing the knowledge for someone like me who runs there own business with a vw crafter with the dpf light on
Man, I wish you were in London, my van does exactly what you said, had 3 forced regenerations and it still does show full filter, new 29k van
Yes you’re correct and doing nothing wrong take no notice of the doubters keep showing up the bad mechanics and dealerships you’re videos are great and informative.
Does using premium diesel fuel like shell v power or bp ultimate help to reduce the chance of soot buildup or is it a waste of money
Brilliant, it's just too easy to swap parts willy nilly without actually diagnosing what is wrong - a real mechanic does what you do - diagnoses what is the problem then fixes it. I love watching your videos, keep it up
Absolutely
They are afraid their customers might see your videos and realise how it's supposed to be done.keep up the good work
the 1% that are complaining about what you are doing, are the 1% that don't know what they are doing.
I understand what these people feel that comment asking you to stop or equal....but the thing I have learnt over the years I can tell anybody about the ins and outs of my job but they will not have the courage to do it or do it for someone else without working under direct supervision for a period of time
If you don’t get to the root cause then a problem will never be fixed. 100% correct.
You’ve help me out a lot. Use to turn these jobs away !
Jimmy.
Thank you for the knowledge transfer.
In this day of money money money, it's a good thing you do
Cheers
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and time, found your videos very helpful, all the very best
Great videos and free advice can't be bad 👍🏻
Well said jimmy, I agree with everything you’ve said, 👍
Hi Jimmy your right keep doing the vids great .I'm a very technical person learned loads from you .only problem where do I get dpf cleaning fluid to spain .where I moved to .all the very best .let the soft arses moan might make them do a proper job and find issue that caused dpf blockage 😊
This is great info. Where are you based and what areas do you cover?
Biggleswade Bedfordshire area
Jimmy, you're amazing!!
If your doing it right, don't apologize. Others need to learn and do better.
Thank you for making us be more aware
No problem
