My bro has a ford Smax and it was one of your videos that popped up during a google search, i pulled out the vapouriser and cleaned it out with some brake cleaner and compressed air and re fitted it, that was 6 months ago and its still working. Thanks for the videos and the info keep them coming, cheers

@@tomsurrey2252 if you take the dpf upstream pressure sensor off ( on the left of the engine ) at the back ,take the rubber elbow off and check the metal pipe is not blocked if so use a thin wire bowden cable , similar to a bicycle cable and use a drill on slow speed and drill it out , keeping the cable tight or it will wind itself up it took me over an hour to do the one I was on , it then should allow the cable to push straight into the dpf , I then ran the engine just with the sensor plugged in to feel gas flow when the engine was running , then put it all back together

Your bang on right there jimmy, as soon as I saw the symptom on this video I thought blocked vapouriser. I can’t believe Garages are not able to understand the basics of these systems and then proceed to go on a fishing trip hoping they’ll fix it. Customers need to start claiming their costs back from these places, it seems rife throughout the trade. Thanks for the vids, always interesting.

I think you were previously correct about glow plugs being needed for euro 4 German diesels witch don't have vaporiser but use fuel injectors to to inject on exhaust stroke to clean DPF filter ,Glow plugs are used to raise temp of engine and cylinders whilst cleaning / any intermittent or faulty glow plug will cause regen or forced regen to fail on VW euro 4

Listening to you recall customer's stories reminds me of an experience I remember. Some years ago a friend of mine got this diesel 'mechanic' to come and look at his Vauxhall Astra at his home. This 'mechanic' bloke decided that the solution was 'to give it 24 volts'! I kid you not, that is what he said. The short of it is that the bloke was going to hump start the car and was absolutely convinced that putting one 12 volt battery in parallel with another 12 volt battery resulted in 24 volts! To my mind, if someone does not understand a most basic principle as this yet specializes in fixing vehicles should not be doing this job or possibly any technical job.

Jimmy, I love your videos but I'm now stuck with my diagnosis. I have a Jaguar F-Pace 3.0D V6, 2016. 1 year ago I had a cracked DPF core and it was renewed. After that after some driving the oil level has risen from middle to max and service interval went from 25.600km to just around 3.000km. Then I changed the oil, bought OBD-2 scanner and now after few months of constantly looking at parameters I figured why it happened. Active DPF regeneration happens every 80-150km on mixed driving style and maximum 300km when driving only on highway. Way too often!! I successfuly completed every active regeneration for 4 months and there is no more oil dillution. DPF pressure sensor looks ok. 0mBar after regeneration on parked car and 10mBar when it needs regeneration soon. At 130km/h it's 30mBar after regeneration and 120mBar just before the regeneration. Sensor looks fine, DPF seems to clean itself quite ok. But it fills up too quicky!! I have to be careful every 3 days to succesfully complete the regeneration process. On active regeneration, the DPF reaches up to 670°C. On city driving it's around 220°C and on highway on passive regeneration it's about 350°C. The DPF company that renewed the DPF said it's been renewed correctly and it should have normal "capacity". What can I check to diagnose this problem? Why is the DPF filter getting full too fast? Could it be one of the EGR valves not working correctly maybe? I've seen very big and constant errors on EGR (A) on my OBD-scanner. EGR (B) seems fine. Could it be that EGR (A) is causing too much soot to collect on DPF? What else could I possibly try? I wish i lived close to you. You are amazing and I hope you could tell me what is most likely the cause. I would be forever gratefull for your help.

Hi, I have a 2012 Peugeot Boxer with a strange issue. the van has no engine lights on and not in limp mode but once it gets to temperature it starts smoking a lot, I can hear the vaporizer fuel pump pulsing which suggest to me my smoke issue is the vaporizer glow plug not working. My son is a mechanic and he has scanned the van and tested the vaporiser for blockage and all's fine. The DPF values are all ok as well.
If I was closer I would come to see you, would it be possible to point me in the right direction?

I've ran ford diesels for years, biggest issue I found was supermarket fuel, caused engine management lights etc, but run the same car on branded fuel, there was no issues, i did some research and although supermarket is the same base fuel, supermarkets don't put the addatives in that the likes of bp and shell do, this causes them to run dirty, and produce more soot.....I now constantly run my own cars on bp/shell and have never had any issues, and never had to use dpf cleaner and some of my diesels ive run up to close to 200k, I've recently purchased a 2015 volvo v40 d4, for my wife, as her focus was stolen, the volvo is only on 115k, and since just after we bought it, its been suffering with constant engine management lights, the inlet manifold and egr valve are caked in soot, ive stripped it all to clean it out ad best i can...its now running premium diesel and its not had any further issues...hopefully I've saved the egr before having to replace.

Hello, nice clarification, thank you! I've been having problems with my DPF in the MB 200 CDI, W204 for a long time. Question, which diagnostic device do you use and from what price range can you use it to measure the DPF temperature? I have one that obviously can't do it. With my ArtiDag 800 from Topdon I can only observe the regeneration itself, read out the ash content and the soot content, as well as a few other parameters, but not the exhaust gas temperature in front of, in and behind the DPF/cat. I suspect that the required temperature is not reached.
Thank you and kind regards from Germany.

The dpf could be really really blocked and this might cause the high temperature warning. The low boost issue might be a symptom of a blocked dpf as if the exhaust gases are having trouble getting out then it can't spool the turbo up properly.
