I'm a breakdown driver for all the major clubs (Agent). I always tell the members to look at your channel or better still get the garage to look. Amazing how many outside temp faults there are. Love this channel keep it up.
Not all angels have wings, some come with oil stained hands and a mobile mechanics van!! You are a legend and saved over £3k not having to get new injectors and dpf filter as some garages were telling me when in fact some guitar wire and a can of dpf cleaner sorted the faults as it was just a blocked pipe to the sensor. Thankyou thankyou thankyou. 😁
That fault is madness! Manufactures really need to do better when designing their systems! Great diagnostic! What I love is your determination to get the fault resolved.. 👍😃
Its intentional by the manufacturer and, sadly, it worked… 5 garages and its the software wanting an original part… crazy and irresponsible by manufacturer and very poor for customer😢
The engine computer uses the ambient air temperature reading to make all sorts of calculations and decisions. So, it's vital that the ambient air temp sensor is accurate. There should be a simple air temp sensor warning on the dash, though, so that you quickly know to replace that sensor.
You 100% nailed the problems on that van even the mirror sensor temp went from 9 to 22 so the first mirror wasn't working, excellent excellent job well done,
Fare plays to you Jim. You’re the best. I’m not a mechanic but I love servicing my own car. I actually was able to fix DPF issue on my Galaxy after watching your videos. Not many people have the confidence and courage to share such information because they think they will loss business!! What you’re doing it show what sort of a man you’re. Top man Gentleman of very high calibre 👍 Keep it up this sort of way it gives life real purpose
Well done on fixing problems, got a 2012 vivao cdti that had oil dilution code even after oil change wasn't till my local garage looked into it they found someone had turn off service intervals in the comp as soon as they got it back on at set to 10,000 I've not had that code come back, keep up the good videos
Fair play Jimmy & well done. It amazing how many people don’t see the exhaust pressure sensor pipe being semi blocked 🤷🏼♂️ Excellent diagnosis & video 👏👏
if 1 man can sort this out how can the mega companies who spend billions on developement get it so wrong ,diesels no thanks i love my petrol car 212k mazda 6 and still purrs like a kitten keep up the great work jimmy
Modern vehicles are becoming ridiculous what with these endless stupid faults. And it would be interesting to know how much this service costs. Great video, thanks.
That poxy exhaust back pressure sensor pipe is a pain in the arse, guitar wire is exactly how I do it 9/10 it works , I had a pipe right out of the manifold but the carbon build up in the pipe screw hole was like concrete I ended up with a tiny spike to knock it out. Bloody stupid idea really all the 1.6 Nissans the same. Cracking video 👍
Most don't know that pretty much 99% of all diesels trigger heated mirrors and rear demist on every regen, coded in, good indication when it's regening and won't stop until regen finishes. This must have something to do with the ambient temp sensor on the mirror surely. Great work
I do quite a bit of work for lads that are on DPD & DHL delivery vans & I can tell you the wing mirrors are one of the first points of contact haha yeh seen this normally about 3 weeks after the mirror was the first point of contact. Owner?Franchisee of the vans didnt believe me at first until I said "humour me and see how it goes" been happy ever since
Excellent diagnostic abilities! It's a shame more mechanics don't become masters of their trade. As a result, it's costing car owners a fortune to get nowhere!
I'm trying to learn about modern cars as I'm old school mechanics and been out the country a long time, this gives me more confidence on fixing modern computer designed, total insanity, systems, and I'm an aerospace engineer hahahaha ,, Big thanks
Nice diag Jimmy , sounds like there’s still a lot of people out there who don’t know what they’re doing and are still taking money from customers for fun.
Really! This is crazy, someone smashed my wing mirror off, I taped it back together while the insurance company of the driver who did the damage prolonged the repair. They finally agreed six months later to repair. During that time, I had both turbo’s replaced, DFE cleaned twice, both Nox sensors, and about 2 other seanors changed and this could have been caused by the wing mirror! Wing mirror has now been changed but now I need a new EGR valve! I’m giving the insurance company a call back today! 😂
I always direct anyone with dpf faults to watch your videos…I’m in lots of facebooks groups with people complaining of dpf issues, some say dpf cleaning doesn’t work, I correct them and point them to watch your vids. If you ran a masterclass, I’d be the first to join. Keeping those DPFs clean and working as they should! Whatever your being paid, it’s not enough. Your a star in my view.
Hi Jim, you put the information out there countless times. These people obviously never do an continued professional development. As a professional engineer I am required to keep studying as long as I am licensed. I watch your videos many times even though we don't have many diesels here in Canada.
Vauxhall has just charged me £360 to diagnose and update software, they told me to drive 25mls vigorously I’ve travelled 300 light still on. The exact lights jimmy has just shown us, I’m buying a new wing mirror tomorrow 🙏🏻
What a very genuine guy... I'm just joe public deciding what OBD2 reader to buy for my old 2010 Freelander 2 and been watching your video's out of pure interest. It makes a pleasant change to find someone honest and knows his trade trade telling it how it is rather than fobbing people off... If you was ever in the Suffolk area, would I love you to check out my car on your superb Launch unit...(all though nothing obvious seem wrong) Top man!
Great Vid 👍 The Adblu/Urea system needs the Outside temperature in order to monitor cold freezing conditions and to know if and when to heat the Adblu supply line pipes which have an heater element wrapped around them. This stops the Adblu from freezing in the lines. I ve had a few Reno/Vauxhalls which have had this heater element fail .........forget which codes it puts up but the dealer usually keeps the pipe in stock as its a common failure.
Great video. I particularly liked the demonstration at the end of how the sensor in the mirror affects the system and makes warnings appear. Very useful and helpful.
Fair play to you mate, cracking job an we'll talked through, wish I had mechanic to your calibre near me I've probably been to 5 garages about why dpf code keeps coming every few hundred mile up but no one can give me explanation, well done again though my man👍👍
I've often thought this with Diesels, it would be so handy as a driver to know if the vehicle was in the middle of regen, like a symbol somewhere on the dash. We could continue driving then for a bit just to make sure it doesnt stop half way through etc.
Sir i love your videos ,you take time to explain the faults and the correct way to rectify them, definitely a cut above the rest . Thank you .john in northants......
Great video as always I recently purchased a Renault traffic and my heart is in my mouth every morning when I go to start it the more of these videos I see at least I know where to go if anything goes wrong 🤞
Great job. Awesome diagnosis skills. My son is having similar issues. Driving me crazy taking garage advice an being ripped off. I do most of my own work these days. Dont trust any garage anymore. They gotta make money. But when theres no work they just misdiagnose an flog you stuff u dont need doin. Good honest people are getting harder and harder to come by!😮 Well done that man. 😊
Whoever designed these Renaults, I hope they step on a lego. I had a scenic that nearly caused my wife to have a nervous breakdown because of all the endless dumb errors that would come up on it like this
I cleaned the dpf on a customers suzuki yesterday - that much black crap came out the exhaust, the ground behind looked like a warzone, lol. Seeing how many you do Jimmy, that little lay-by must look like the slopes of Vesuvius.
Well you should always expect the unexpected with a French heap.. I run a vivaro/ traffic. It’s nothing compared to my sprinter van. Done 70k and gearbox bearings front timing chain cover leak, boost leak, new air con pump. The sprinter that does all the towing and graft = 130k and nothing apart from an air bag recall
I ran a 2002 Dispatch 110Hdi for sixteen years and 230000 miles.New oil & filter every 5000 plus usual stuff brakes suspension etc.Never let me down. Still on the road with new owner. Modern diesels are junk in comparison.
I had same problem in Renault Mégane, After cleaning the dpf twice , the oil dilution still there, if u search oil dilution in live data , the dtc is there if it's above 10% , a service reset is required to reset it . Good job and thank you for all your video ❤
Jimmy another great video. Question "Oil Dilution" they use diesel to increase the temp in the DPF but how does it get in the oil. Maybe a video on the subject. Thanks again love the channel.
The only other thing I would have done would have been to check the wires from the ECU to the ambient air temp sensor had good continuity and no resistance. I’ve seen the wires start to break between the A post and the door on some cars. Spot on otherwise 👍👍
Love Renaults for their insane wiring problems. Had a Megane that wouldn't start, spanner light on, the passenger window, blower motor and some other unrelated system didn't work. After spending hours of head scratching and dismantling/testing it turned out to be the wiper arm stalk that was faulty, even though the wipers still worked! swapped it out for a new one and hey presto car started and everything else sprang back into life!
You are the Best! Unfortunately we cannot buy Launch UK DPF cleaner in Europe sold only in UK so I try to use Motip DPF cleaner instead on my Suzuki Fingers crossed!
Yes, girlfriends daughter vauxhall viva misfiring and stuttering, garage reads fault codes and says your timing chain and gears are shot, engine out £2000 job. Her cousin has a look with his own code reader and ended up changing the exhaust cam vvt solenoid. Car fixed.
Youre videos are unbelievable, you narrate and work seemlessly..i just bought a trafic. 16 reg sluggish from a cold start. No faults what so ever shown on dash. Not the battery or altonator.. any ideas ,?
Got renault megane DCI 1.5 110 with 160,000 miles on it 2017 model (owned since 20,000). It developed a strange problem where sometimes it idles rough and seems quite down on mpg, It also displays check injection when driving with cruise control at a steady speed, usually about an hour or so after driving then quickly goes out, it has a momentary loss of power also. If I do a few hours drive then the message reappears to the point where anti pollution check comes up. I change pressure sensor for exhaust, engine light issue goes away for about 5,000 miles as errors were pressure sensor and EGT sensor volt too low. I check, voltages and datalog ok, battery recently changed also, as the battery genuinely died. Does regular long journeys. Oil changed always at around 7,000 - 8,000 miles only castrol gtx to the rn0720 spec and genuine filters, always do fuel filters on time too. Doesn't burn a drop oil or water. I'm an electrical and mechanical engineer, but not a mechanic. Have done a lot of diagnostics so far on it, detail on comments would be insane to list. But if I shared what I've done so far, I don't know if you could point me in the right direction plese, it's driving me up the wall now, as it's starting to do the same thing, but mild at the moment. Hasn't got to the point of an engine light. 30,000 miles ago it had a glow plug issue sooting up the EGR but this involved removing all the EGR system to clean it out, including fixing the exhaust pressure sensor. I don't know if this is something to do with timing perhaps also, timing belt is being done in the week so another thing eliminated perhaps.
Hello, I have a Renault Trafic 1.6l 120 HP EURO6 2017. It sporadically caused injection errors, here I replaced the plugs to the injectors. He also had the Check exhaust system error, so I replaced both NOX sensors. I changed the oil including resetting the instrument cluster. The tube from the pressure sensor to the DPF is free. Now it always gives the message "Engine can be destroyed" and the particle filter is full with 62.5g. If I delete all errors and drive in 5th gear at over 2500 rpm, then it reduces the soot content in the particle filter to approx. 37 grams and the differential pressure when stationary is approx. 33mbar, but unfortunately it doesn't go down any further. If I drive in 6th gear it doesn't break down at all, the temperature in front of the particle filter is around 600-640°C. Even when the soot content in the DPF was 37g, I put a cleaning spray in the DPF, let the car run at a standstill for 20 minutes and then drove for about 30 minutes at over 2500 rpm, then it builds up the soot to about 21g and 19mbar. But as soon as I drive normally again, with the switching recommendations in the instrument cluster and below 2500 rpm, it fills the particle filter again to 62.5g without regeneration. What else can I do and check? Have you already removed the DPF? How does it work with EURO6 Trafic?
Hi , great videos , very helpful full , I’ve bought a vw t5 with the dpf regen deleted from ecu , so van very slow up hills , tried loads of in tank dpf cleaners , do the cleaners actually work ,
I know you’ve highlighted this door mirror sensor as an issue dozens of times on these vans, with door mirrors getting damaged regularly I’d move the sensor onto the A pillar or even the scuttle plate.
I'm a breakdown driver for all the major clubs (Agent). I always tell the members to look at your channel or better still get the garage to look. Amazing how many outside temp faults there are. Love this channel keep it up.
I appreciate that
Love watching this guy he’s so knowledgeable, just goes to show how much trouble these modern diesel engines can be
What a joke having to replace a full wing mirror! Excellent video, very helpful 👍🏻
Yes, one wonders why just the sensor isn't an item. And there must be hundreds of smashed wing mirrors thrown away that have good sensors in them.
@@xxwookey you can buy the sensor on its own. But you kinda have to strip the mirror apart to repalce it.
Bet the owner of that van absolutely loves you figuring that out so quickly after 5 garages and however much money
I am having similar issues, is this the pipe at the top of the DPF or both of them? I've got a can of cleaner to try this weekend.
Yeah deliberate to get you to the dealer. Manufacturers have to have to value added to encourage dealer retention
That presumes the dealer knows how to fix it too...
I was thinking the same thing- this should be preventable this is madness
Well done O Reilly well done.
The engine computer uses the ambient air temperature reading to make all sorts of calculations and decisions. So, it's vital that the ambient air temp sensor is accurate. There should be a simple air temp sensor warning on the dash, though, so that you quickly know to replace that sensor.

Never heard of a Traffic Tree! But seriously, you'll never be out of work, you have good brains.
That was a thriller that kept us guessing and required a bit of thinking outsidecthe box ...Bravo😅😅
Glad you liked it!

Can afford van running on patrol
If you had a petrol van converted to run on LPG,
Cha-ching !

brilliantly worked out jimmy that was a good one...
Excellent diagnostic abilities!

love these daily uploads. knowledge is power. thanks for sharing Jimmy 👍👍👍

Another very enjoyable video Jimmy,
Thank you
Top notch fault diagnosis & rectification!!! 👍
Thanks for watching
Hi Jim, you put the information out there countless times. These people obviously never do an continued professional development. As a professional engineer I am required to keep studying as long as I am licensed. I watch your videos many times even though we don't have many diesels here in Canada.

Yes I've seen a few with heater faults on the adblue tank
Of course the sensor could easily have been clipped or screwed to the underside of the mirror and cost about 30 quid... But it's French 🙄🙄🙄
This is one of the most educational videos of yours and I don't mean the others are not good :D The end is the best.
Your a fair man to fix faults and really study you diagnostics .the amount of mechanics just guessing is costing the big bucks
Great video. I particularly liked the demonstration at the end of how the sensor in the mirror affects the system and makes warnings appear. Very useful and helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Fair play to you mate, cracking job an we'll talked through, wish I had mechanic to your calibre near me I've probably been to 5 garages about why dpf code keeps coming every few hundred mile up but no one can give me explanation, well done again though my man👍👍
Really enjoyed watching the process of resolving that problem. Great!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Very Interesting, has a Peugeot with TPMS warning light caused by the AATS on the wing mirror. Cracking work as always!!!
You’re awesome love your talk throughout every issue, top quality 👏👏
Learn something new everyday with you buddy. 5:02 very good bit of advice.
Brilliant bit of detective work
I've often thought this with Diesels, it would be so handy as a driver to know if the vehicle was in the middle of regen, like a symbol somewhere on the dash. We could continue driving then for a bit just to make sure it doesnt stop half way through etc.

Thanks
Love the videos. Great job and great diagnosing.
Modern vehicles are kin diabolcal..well done mate.
Ill stick with my old landrover...
what an awesome knowledge filled tutorial, your insights are the best fella thank you SO SO MUCH
Thanks Jimmy awesome you the best, , and we see you love what u do. 👌
I appreciate that
Thank you so much for your job and for each information you pass...... 👍👍👍👍👍
Excellent well done, door mirror? Good ole Frogs!
Yes! Thank you!
Maestro at work AKA Jimmy👊👊👊

Great job. Awesome diagnosis skills. My son is having similar issues. Driving me crazy taking garage advice an being ripped off. I do most of my own work these days. Dont trust any garage anymore. Whoever designed these Renaults, I hope they step on a lego. I had a scenic that nearly caused my wife to have a nervous breakdown because of all the endless dumb errors that would come up on it like this
Have had scenics since S reg never yet had fault code appear.
What a job, good find Jimmy. Gotta keep an eye on that sneaky amb sensor 😂
Love watching your videos 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Well done Mr 😎
❤ wonderful job 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
I cleaned the dpf on a customers suzuki yesterday - that much black crap came out the exhaust, the ground behind looked like a warzone, lol. Seeing how many you do Jimmy, that little lay-by must look like the slopes of Vesuvius.
Yes what is the dpf’s point! Collects all the soot and muck but every now and then it simply chucks it into the environment again on Regen.
Yep, sounds like typical Renault cat shit!
I ran a 2002 Dispatch 110Hdi for sixteen years and 230000 miles.New oil & filter every 5000 plus usual stuff brakes suspension etc.Never let me down. Still on the road with new owner. Modern diesels are junk in comparison.
great job again jimmy
Thanks
I had same problem in Renault Mégane, After cleaning the dpf twice , the oil dilution still there, if u search oil dilution in live data , the dtc is there if it's above 10% , a service reset is required to reset it . Good job and thank you for all your video ❤
Thanks for sharing
Jimmy another great video.
Question "Oil Dilution" they use diesel to increase the temp in the DPF but how does it get in the oil. Maybe a video on the subject.
Thanks again love the channel.
The only other thing I would have done would have been to check the wires from the ECU to the ambient air temp sensor had good continuity and no resistance. I’ve seen the wires start to break between the A post and the door on some cars.
Spot on otherwise 👍👍
I did check that sorry the complete repair took a fair few hours
Love Renaults for their insane wiring problems. Had a Megane that wouldn't start, spanner light on, the passenger window, blower motor and some other unrelated system didn't work.
After spending hours of head scratching and dismantling/testing it turned out to be the wiper arm stalk that was faulty, even though the wipers still worked! swapped it out for a new one and hey presto car started and everything else sprang back into life!
Great vid again, bloody wing mirrors 😂
What a job Jimmy and expert knowledge......did you have van running when you were putting launch fluid through that wee pipe?
Top Man Jimmy 👍
Yes I did
You are the Best! Unfortunately we cannot buy Launch UK DPF cleaner in Europe sold only in UK so I try to use Motip DPF cleaner instead on my Suzuki Fingers crossed!
Great job well done
I need to bring my car next week
Thanks 👍
perfect diagnosis
I wondering does any of the garages know what there doing, the training must be pretty dire. always good to watch.
Yes, girlfriends daughter vauxhall viva misfiring and stuttering, garage reads fault codes and says your timing chain and gears are shot, engine out £2000 job. Her cousin has a look with his own code reader and ended up changing the exhaust cam vvt solenoid. Car fixed.
Its just a tad horrendous you have to replace the whole wing mirror for the sake of a temperature sensor assembly😮 keep up the excellent vids.
Gotta check your wing mirrors to keep the oil dilution under control folks!
Crazy ain't it
Another fantastic video. Many thanks.
Thanks again!

Hello, I have a Renault Trafic 1.6l 120 HP EURO6 2017. It sporadically caused injection errors, here I replaced the plugs to the injectors. What else can I do and check? Have you already removed the DPF? How does it work with EURO6 Trafic?

I know you’ve highlighted this door mirror sensor as an issue dozens of times on these vans, with door mirrors getting damaged regularly I’d move the sensor onto the A pillar or even the scuttle plate.
Great video! Still don’t understand how we had a temp reading in the vans display, but had a duff sensor in the mirror. Are they different sensors?
fantastic video ,
