They played this so very well. In past series they worked so hard to make us think she may have been poisoned by her sister, and then the attention on the pineapple itself. Never in a million years did I see the spider bite coming.

I really enjoyed this episode! I think the Barclay and Eleanor redemptions arcs were quite nice, I don’t entirely forgive Eleanor but definitely sympathize with her. I love the way they hinted to the most common theories as a possibility, I still have no idea how none of us thought of a spider bite as a cause of death lol
Anyways I’m so happy that Kitty is going to be in the new spider-man movie /j

my personal head canon is that Kitty definitely heard Eleanor's apology, which is why she is so adamant of Eleanors innocence/"sisterly love". Either way it is a bittersweet ending to their story which I really enjoyed!

My mum did say to me on the night before my grandmother died, she said "how people can hear what is being said before they are dying." *On a Lighter note* Funny, Eleanor and Katherine are half sisters and my Grandmother's name was Eleanor and my mother's name is Catherine!

I liked Kitty's death story, especially the fact that the evidence was there all along but in typical Kitty fashion she hadn't noticed.
I also liked the Mike and Barclay storyline and how they actually formed a sort of friendship by the end. It was nice how they established the fact that the safe was soundproof earlier in the episode, so Alison couldn't here them - I momentarily thought that they might die in there, but ironically that seemed a bit gruesome for Ghosts.

So glad it was something random, no ill will behind it, and that her sister said what she did. It also explains why Kitty has always been so kind when speaking of her.

I don't know if anyone else is as big of a spider-nerd as I am, but I looked into the species of spider it could have been, and from what was shown I think it was a brown widow spider (Latrodectus geometricus) (although they don't have a fatal bite so I doubt they were going for a specific species). Other common names are the brown "Button" spider (more so in Southern Africa than South America), or a house button spider (although I could only find this name on Wikipedia so I don't know how accurate this is). Anyway, I'm not an Entomologist,
but I just thought that was interesting. I wonder if this was deliberate or just a coincidence?

@@romainsavioz5466yes I think so, but I meant the writers/ spider people/ prop people choosing this species of spider due to the button connection as sort of an 'easter egg' (but maybe this is me being too much of an animal nerd!). Although I don't think Kitty was a button herself was she?
I don't think they deliberately put the spider on there for Kitty though (or anyone else for that matter), it seems too difficult to direct a spider at one particular target, and wasn't the conversation afterwards? Also, as Jamie said, it would be too sad to think of anyone trying to murder Kitty! Maybe they could have been trying to kill someone else, they could have had other motives- money, maybe kitty's father was going to get them caught, the people having a conversation could have been trying to kill the other?

It's really tough an nearly impossible finding an fan of BBC-Ghosts here in germany. I'm a fan of thesix idiots years ago, when I spotted the Horrible Histories the first time. My girlfriend bought me the whole old show as a gift, I bought Yonderland.
We both are huge fans oft the Ben, Simon, Jim, Martha, Lawrence an Matthew.
Ghosts is such a wonderful show, with well written stories and perfect executed jokes. All stories an charakters are so well developed, we love them beside, or of there flaws.
Now we finished the 5th series and the last christmas special. It was so sad and satisfying at the same time. The perfect ending.
Bit ihe point is, we don't have anybody in germany to talk about our emotions about the show.
So it's wonderful listening to your thoughts about the show, about the charakters, we love so much.

Interestingly enough, the difference between poison and venom is that venom has to be injected into the skin whereas poison can be secreted from the skin, all one has to do is touch the animal or plant that has a poisonous coat on the outside to become infected. Just a fun fact but thankyou for the video Jamie! Always enjoy your reviews!

@@hannahk1306Yes, I understand your point. It can be injested (such as poisonous gas particles in the air.) But you can also touch the skin of the poisonous plant or animal for it to infect you as well. I understand why though you thought that!
Anyone else get the feeling the writers read all the theories on the internet before writing the episode? They literally got a team of ghosts to go through all our theories first! They seemed to be just faking us into thinking we were right then disproving each theory!!
I didn't really know how to feel about the sudden introduction of the safe, while it made for a good plot device, it really did come out of nowhere. It made me wonder why they didn't use it to store the Wedding stuff back in S2.
I just kept shouting at Mike "Don't shut the door!" Because he's right, he gets stuck in places a lot! Roof, giant inflatable ball now safe?
I really liked the explanation of us not seeing the safe is just that no one really ever turns right at the bottom of the stairs. It very much comes across as a tongue in cheek 'the safe has always been here, don't think about it too hard' thing

On the positive, I like Kitty's death by spider. I would have liked death by hide and seek better, but this is fine. I do wonder about the opening, as this would make Kitty the only ghost with no power and no death hits in the opening sequence (at least that I can see). She stands in a ray of sunlight while the rocking horse rocks. I would have been up for the rocking horse being symbolic of playing games as a cause of death. But if that's not what it is, then where is a symbol of either power or death?
Out of all the episodes in this series, this is the one where I missed Mary the most. Compared to Thomas's story, it felt like there was information missing since we were limited to Humphrey and Robin's perspectives, and their testes and perspectives were limited. And I got annoyed with the ghosts for deciding the random serving girl was the killer with no evidence whatsoever. Just because she served the one tray of individual treats. It just didn't sit right with me to decide that just because she existed, she hated the sister enough to kill her, got access to poison, poisoned the food, and then messed up the whole poisoning plot and got the wrong sister. That's too many hypotheticals strung together on "this girl exists."
I did like a kind of redemption for the sister who lived. I wish they would have gone into the hows and whys of Kitty's adoption because of the racial differences. I know there were circumstances where similar things happened, but they were pretty rare, especially to settle her with half the estate if she had lived. But it probably would have gotten racist, and that's not where Ghosts wants to be.
I loved the Mike and Berkeley show. I mean, once the vault was mentioned, we all knew someone was going to get locked in. And I think this was a good way to bring those two sides together. And was another nice step in Mike being an adult and doing adult things on his own. Yes, he checked with Alison before shaking on the deal, but he got the deal, and seems to have plotted in sharing his wagon wheel as part of that ploy. Usually I feel like Mike is an underappreciated part of the show, but I liked his growth arc the last two seasons, with two exceptions. And he's really good at being a supportive partner when the chips are down. He can be bumbling, but he tries.
Yeah I think its a shame we still don't have an answer on her origins. I feel like in that speech Eleanor could have said one more line in the "Mum and Dad bought you into the family bit" which would make it clearer where she came from without going too deep into racism!

Eleanor could have just married a cousin with the same last name. That was super common back then. I doubt she had a child out of wedlock, and I think a Lord Higham was mentioned as Isabelle's father.

Jamie you are the only way I can watch and hear about the BBC Ghosts., I live in the USA and sadly the last episode or season we have been able to watch in America is season 3. The Christmas special and that's it. I would love to watch season 4 and the Christmas special and start watching season 5, especially since I know it's going to end soon. But please Jamie if you have any idea how I can watch this let me know. I really really appreciate it.

I like that she wasn't murdered or whatever, but it kind of ruined the reveal for me to have it be something NO ONE thought of (or it could be that I wasn't paying enough attention) because what the writing shouted at me (not poisoning but starvation or suffocation via being left behind during hide and seek) was so planted in my brain that I couldn't enjoy the reveal of this (admittedly cool) manner of death (And I did love Eleanor's apology.)
