    I love all these versions of Ghosts and hope that every country uses their own history to show their own flavor!

    As a German, I'm learning of this news with some anxiety - Germany doesn't have a good track record with adapting comedy shows from other countries, or with creating comedy shows themselves, for that matter ( ironically, the only funny scripted German comedy show I can think of is the crime scene cleaner, which I found a little lackluster in its UK adaptation); but from what little information there is so far, it looks like the cast is there (I do appreciate the Roman soldier - they obviously couldn't have used a WWII soldier, and even a WWI soldier wouldn't have been received too fondly by most Germans I imagine, so going back to the Holy Roman Empire is a good idea). I also like that except for Max Giermann, who plays Claudius, there aren't any "big" names as far as I can see.
    Fun fact: Lady Stephanie's counterpart, Adelheid's name, means "nobelness", so it's a bit on the nose in that regard.

      I'm a brit living in Germany and agree that Tatortreiniger is a lot better than The Cleaner. The UK adaptation feels like it's trying a bit too hard to be funny, and while i love Greg Davies, his character lacks the charm of Schotti!

      It’s a bit of a shame that Germans don’t look too fondly on WW1 soldiers. They weren’t part of a fascist dictatorship. Just an authoritarian monarchy (that did have a Parliament). Which is similar to other European states at the time, kind of including Britain.
      I guess WW1 was a lot more damaging for Germany than Britain with Britain’s naval blockade. And it directly led to WW2, which for obvious reasons, it’s not looked upon fondly by Germans. It’s a shame that those who were sent to die in a pointless war between countries are viewed with some discomfort, when it wasn’t like they voted for it or were fighting for as horrible cause as in WW2

      @@personperson.7744 I think the largest problem with WWI is that there were no actual good guys. There were winners, and our textbooks often do not include the underhanded and despicable things that were done in the name of winning. and then there are the losers who get to know the bad things that they did. Which then led to severe crippling of their country in the case of Germany, and a much, much worse war after.

    I can't wait to see this one if possible. I accidently found the UK ghosts and I loved it. So when the US came out I really liked that one too especially since it's a bit different and has more episodes. I love both versions and now I can't wait to see this one. I feel like they come up with more ghosts after the series finishes but not in the same house just someone with a similar situation on having to see ghosts and having different people from different eras in the show. I just love the concept.

    I‘m interested to see what they do with Mary/Griet. Because there were like many noticeable witch trials and the „Hexenhammer“ etc. I‘ve been to an exhibition a few years ago about the german witch trials in the region where I live. It was really sad but a good exhibition. But also the actress that plays her, Meltem Kaptan, is a Turkish-german comedian and actress and I’m curious to see if they incorporate it in some way. 😊

    It seems like Mary's German counterpart (judging by the picture alone) is going to be more articulate and less childlike than our Mary.
    good video miss, it was interesting to see your thoughts about them characters and their parallels

    Very cool I'll have to see if I can get some fan subtitles or something.
    I agree with you that it sounds like the Thomas character will be very similar to the original. But the Romantic movement was a huge thing in Germany, so it makes sense that they'd pick him to bring over. There was a book called the Sorrows of Young Werther that is sort of one of the top books of the German romantics and inspired countless young men to end themselves out of sympathy (And stuff like that happening is why no matter how over the top Thomas gets, I tend think he's still period appropriate).
    The Caveman character, well, if he were similar to Robin, I'd think it was a good thing. Robin was the heart of the family, I think. He's lived a long time and gathered a lot of wisdom. Robin is the grandfather, the Captain is the father and Pat is the mother of the group in terms of making the family function. Anyway, I think the US suffers for not having a character in a similar position, so I'd expect similarity.
    I think the Mary/witch character sounds very different, but in a good way that could be a lot of fun. And I feel similarly for the version of Pat that they're doing. I expect them to change his family plot line a lot since it's rare for women to be the ones who are neglectful of a home life and it's rare for men to stay home.
    Not sure about the Fanny character. It looks like they're using Hetty's dress style. I wonder what her time period will be exactly? If it's Hetty's dress and time period, that may put her in the Unification of Germany under Bismarck. Depending on where the house is would determine how she feels about the war to unify Germany. And if it were ongoing or a recent event, she may either be very patriotic as Junker woman (it would be funny if they gave her the Captain's patriotism) or very resentful and angry.
    And and a traveling insurance salesman makes a lot of sense to me for Mr. Pantsless. I don't know how these things go in Germany, but I do know that they buy all kinds of insurance all the time compared to most other countries. So I think there's potential there for an entirely new line of jokes and knowledge.
    I also LOVE the Roman Centurion as something different with a lot of potential. I think it also gives their Caveman character a little bit of a friend who has been around for a really long time. And that could work well or poorly. Because 2000 years together, even in a life we think is 10,000 years long, is 1/5th of it.
    I'm not sure what it says that visually, I thought the Mike expy was a gay home designer. But I haven't seen the show, so hopefully it's just cultural differences and the picture.

      I agree she looks more like Hetty than Fanny! Also I think the Mary might be a mix of Mary and Annie, Annie was trying to teach Mary to be more outspoken so this is the Mary Annie was trying to get her to be!

      I wouldn’t say Pat was neglectful of home life. He seemed quite involved (at least compared to many 50s-70s fathers; though I would say that typically, northern fathers are more known for being connected to their children in the 20th century, even if they are unsympathetic to their grazed knees?) In the Christmas episode for example, and his son was a scout I think? I do get what you mean, though. He was in his shed speaking with Morris a lot, not taking his wife to new places

    • @sarahglover3286
      @sarahglover3286 Місяць тому +3

      @@personperson.7744 He had regrets as a Dad but he also died when his son was like 10 so he probably would have not had those regrets if he had lived. I'd be interested as she's one of the two modern ones if we do meet her family!

    • @personperson.7744
      @personperson.7744 Місяць тому +2

      @@sarahglover3286 yeah! It’s a very interesting but clever way to change the character. Pat was a teacher technically as a scout leader. Maybe she was always at work (I don’t know what teaching is like in Germany now or at that time, but in England it’s a pretty high hours average pay job) so maybe that is why her other half is distant from her

    • @jenniferhanses
      @jenniferhanses Місяць тому +1

      @@personperson.7744 Yeah, the shed and ignoring his wife was what I was meaning.
      I never saw him neglect his kid. But he neglected his marriage until it was gone. I don't support cheaters, I think you should divorce first. But I get why his wife was unhappy.
      I don't think you could flip that backstory onto a woman as easily. Aside from the fact that even those of us women who aren't socially adept usually learn to figure out basic social cues like "I want you to spend more time with me," she'd be much less likely to have a house husband as a basic elementary or middle school teacher. Especially if she's still a 1980s ghost. She just couldn't afford it. So they'll have to change the story, even if it still includes a cheating spouse.

    I read the names before examining the picture and thought the teacher was the Kitty until I looked at her in the picture 🏹! So that’s interesting that there's less ghosts as there's no evidence of a Humphrey and we're already one down with Kitty! Like that the rest are pretty much carbon copies, one gender swap and one era swap (as WW2 in Germany is a touchy subject), really hope its avaliable here with subtitles!

    Personally I'm really looking forward to this version true I only know a few German words hopefully we can get some subtitles
    Also I hear a French version is coming as well. I hope even more countries get their own version 😊 the more the merrier [keeping the no trousers on joke] . (Also I think that German character will be a *life* insurance salesman)
