Sable Review - The Final Verdict

- As far as the Xbox One goes, I cannot recommend Sable. It’s outright unplayable as things stand right now. But here’s the thing, if/when these issues are addressed in future updates - and they can all be patched out, from the performance issues, to adding control remapping options, to toning down the aggressive graphical filters, to making the camera behave better, to patching out the hard locks and crashes, to fixing draw distances, all of that - if that happens, this is going to be a good game.
I don’t think it will ever quite be great, because even apart from the technical problems I have, I have mentioned enough issues with its quests and gameplay loop that are too fundamental to what it is. But I do think this can be a legitimately good game that is great to just lose yourself in for hours, wandering around, taking in the sights, exploring it for the sake of the joy of discovery and the melancholic story that the world has to tell. - Ігри
I can’t hear the name Sable and not automatically think of the wrestler from WWE’s Attitude Era.
While I am really liking this game. I will have to admit I am also having a ton of technical issues on the Xbox series s as well.
Can you say framerate drop but and lag every time you pick something up even still....... made by two people and a hellava lot better then most new games
I dig what this game is going for to the point where I have done every major quest and am just doing colletables in endgame, but man, yea, the technical issues (PC player here) are impossible to hand wave.
When major physics based puzzles lack collision, when the menus themselves stop working, when the art style and performance just kinda make you nauseous, it's hard to in good faith recommend this.
Spoiler-free review: I hope there is either a part 2, or several DLC that expands on the current game. Loved it.
Performance:
Played it half and half on two PCs. One is Ryzen 5 3600, 16gb ram, 5700XT, the second is a ryzen 7 4600, rtx 2060, 16gb ram. Game has been stable enough for me on both with all settings maxed out. Frame rates fluctuate between 70-100 with occasional dips to around 40s. But when I cap the framerate to 60 in the settings, I didn't see another dip again and framerate was perfectly stable at 60fps. Only encountered 3 consistent bugs that i didnt know were bugs till over 15 hours in. I couldn't pick up a specific flower, which I though was intentional, but its not integral to pick them up as they only give you credits as far as I know. The second being that an object I had seen since the begining that I thought was normal wasn't supposed to appear till later on. It didnt really effect the gameplay though, I just though "oh, I think that was supposed to appear there later" and I moved on and continued enjoying the game. Lol. Lastly, the hoverbike in base form is very wobbly going over even small rocks but after some upgrades, it gets more stable. It still could use some work, but I still enjoyed it as I thought it was supposed to be that way. Lol
If you don't mind occasional oddities and just want to play a chill adventure game, playing it as-is on PC should be fine. If little things like that bug you, give it some time.
I'm on PC and have had quite a lot of technical issues. menus glitch out constantly, npcs walk into walls, the bike will randomly flip, audio cues playing at random, and FREQUENT dips into low 20s fps on a 1080ti and i7-8700k on low graphics at 1440p. also map markers not disappearing from the compass after removing from the map, quest dialogue not triggering until after a game restart, and physics issue like plants waving in the wind stretching wayyyyy too far and getting going into the air touching a battery at the wrong angle.
I know how bad that sounds, but I'm actually loving this game. even the core movement mechanics don't feel great, but there's so much heart in this game. it's charming, and beautiful to look at. I'm still a fan, and hope these bugs get worked out.
100% agree, i like it but buggy as hell on pc... only 3 achievements from completing and like 60 more chums though
Since I only just started playing this game, I'm not sure if it was added later on, but there is a "high visibility display" option that gives the game more color and makes it easier to see in the dark. I feel this pretty much addresses this particular complaint in the review.
Sadly the game still suffers from poor optimization. I too have high tolerance for low Fps since I've played on consoles for decades and recently nintendo witch. But the Constant stutters and frame rate drops will really affect your gaming experience. I'm Playing this on pc btw.
Before you got to the games technical issues i was already feeling nauseous. Such a shame i was really looking forward to this title. Lets hope some patches can help with the optimisation. Il revisit this game later in the hope there is some fixes! Thanks for the honest review!

Eh, playing it at the moment, and while I agree the camera can be a pain, I'm quite liking it so far. Maybe I've been relatively lucky so far, but I enjoy it plenty well enough. But yeah, if they'd ironed out the issues, this game could have been a no-brainer.

How can you give it a 6 you said the game is unplayable. Score should be considerably lower if the game is in such a poor state?
Game would be nice without technical issues. I have stuttering and frame rate issues on Xbox series X. Some work is needed to optimize the game!!!
This game not running well on a system as powerful as an XBOX ONE X is unthinkable. There is NO excuse for that.
In my humble opinion, the reviewer is greatly exaggerating the state of disrepair in this game.
@@StephenFoxNEXComic Trust me, its technical state is pretty bad. I have played the game for about 7-8 hours now and seriously the fps goes bonkers a lot of times. In the location of Eccria the fps is down to 30 from 60. I have a fairly powerful gaming laptop and I know this is not a hardware problem. Apart from that a lot of other weird issues; clunky UI which makes me click on stuff I never wanted to, sometimes I click on inventory items but it wont let me select them, quest markers disappearing, the bike getting stuck to locations and not coming to me when I call out for it. A LOT of issues lol. I like the game, the art, the music, characters, but I wish the game would let me play it without these annoying hiccups.

@@StephenFoxNEXComic He really isn't. I played on Series X and experienced the same stuff he was talking about, and there's been two patches since this review that were supposedly meant to help performance. Game still runs like shit. Shame because I loved it otherwise.
I don't even mind the bugs, I just can't stand how empty and boring the actual game is. It's all collectibles, fetch quests, and easy baby puzzles.
iT'S A MESS ON THE PC TOO. Been getting worse day by day. Today, at the Seven Sisters area, I was unable to access the menu and save the game, at all. And I had a lot invested in getting to that point including having made it to the cartographers balloon. I eventually had to do a control-alt-delete to exit the game.
The game won't even boot for me. It just gets stuck on the menu screen.
Glad to see an honest review that addresses the performance issues on Xbox. I really wanted to enjoy this game but the atrocious framerate, unruly camera and game breaking bugs have killed it for me. The final straw was vanishing my bike off the map leaving me stranded in the badlands on foot.
If they can patch the many issues then i'll revisit it and try and enjoy it for what it is but until then it's barely playable.
I played the game on pc and had absolutely no problems, (except for the camera) I had almost no bugs and when it gets dark and the colors bleach I had no issue distinguishing anything, maybe you need glasses or something. I honestly think this game is amazing and I find it kind of relaxing.
I had no problem with framedrops. My problems are with glitchy climbing, the camera and the menu which sometimes goes absolutely bonkers and jump around, so i can’t select what i want.
This makes me really sad, because i enjoy driving around in this world and explore and i am curious. But it’s hard to play with these technical issues.
I hope the devs will issue big patches, because i hate to see this game suffer like this.
Not sure if it’s cuz I’m playing on PC, but I have had none of these issues (except camera being ass lol, that’s a thing)
I played the game on both Xbox One S and Xbox Series X and there is a huge difference when it comes to performance. If you can, definitely play this game on current gen hardware. Although the game does have some jank in it's movement and camera, and I haven't felt a similar sense of open exploration and wonder since playing Breath of the Wild. I find it amazing that this game was only created by two people.
I just started playing this on a mid-range laptop, thinking that the simplicity of the graphics wouldn't be too challenging... Wow. Could not have been more wrong. I got one glitch that only let me walk in one direction forever; I quit out and came back, but the whole time I've had massive framerate issues, ranging from slightly jittery to literally 1fps when there are a lot of things moving, like that early beetle area.
O, and during cutscenes, assets teleport in at the beginning of the scene, dropping into place visibly, lol. Totally unjustifiable.
Edit: so I ended up finishing the game... Nothing could have prepared me for how incredibly bad the bugs and glitches would get by the end. About half of my playthru included single-digit FPS, to the degree that inputting commands with the correct timing was a constantly changing challenge, honestly the only challenging part of the game was dealing with glitches.
Towards the end, the various instruments in the soundtrack were going out of sync with each other. I didn't think that was even a mistake you could make.
The camera made me so. Incredibly. Angry. I would often have to remove my thumb from its intended button, pull my index finger up and over the controller to press that button, freeing up my thumb to move the camera into a position that wasn't actively trying to fuck me over.

I have a 3080 and a i7 10700k and the game stutters just like in your vid. So its not a hardware problem.
I really don't mind the camera and quickly got used to the controls. Am playing on Series X so won't comment on performance except to say it runs fine, no issues so far.

I have no idea why you had technical issues. None here and none anywhere else I've heard whatsoever. I know three people would have One x and they had no problem running the start to finish. Also, this is a game very much like journey. If you don't like that kind of game you won't like this game but that's what this is. It's not meant to be anything but that. If it's not for you that's fine but this is an excellent version of that time of game. Peace

I did and so far I'm loving it, there's only two areas where the frames get extremely bad (I'm on xb1) and aslong as you aren't too bothered by the bad frame rate it's amazing

Such a simply developed game that can't handle itself! It should run on a Gameboy it's so basic, yet won't run on a high end pc.... 🤦🏻♂️
