Yet another great reaction to this 57 year old Doors classic!! The LONG musical interlude was edited out of the version played on AM radio here in the US. So, the AM radio version was only 3 minutes long. FM radio (frequency modulation) in full stereo with awesome sound transmission eventually replaced AM. This debut album from the Doors came out in 1967 and one year later it was one of the first complete albums played late at night on FM in my home city of Atlanta, Ga. I was 16 years old and it is still a fond memory! Thanks ya'll!!!
I was 15 when this song was popular, me and my friends were blown away! We couldn't believe how good it was. A little trivia, they performed the song on the Ed Sullivan Show, Ed asked them to change the lyric "Girl we couldn't get much higher". They agreed but performed it as written, Ed was furious and said, “‘You will never do this show again,’ Ed fumed after they directly disobeyed his censorship requirements. Jim turned to him and remarked, ‘Hey, that’s okay-we just did The Ed Sullivan Show.’”
i believe this was the song they played one time on The Ed Sullivan Show and the producers came to Morrison before the performance and told him that he had to change the phrase "Girl we couldn't get much higher" to another, less controversial one. Jim Morrison agreed and then walked out and sang the original lyrics. Ed Sullivan's people told the Doors that they would never play again on his show and they laughed. They didn't care.
Not just in the creation, but in the listening! College dorm rooms ... 1967 ... the sweet smell of weed wafting through the air. Longer songs were a new direction for rock music at the time. Like In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida by Iron Butterfly. P.S.: the drums are on fire! John Densmore.
This is the full album version. The version you're probably thinking of, is the edited single version, with the middle section cut out. Great band... a fave of mine.
The Doors had their Pop/Rock radio songs like this, but they also had their underground songs like "The End," "Gloria," and "When the Music's Over" too.
Simply a great Doors classic whether the long version or shorter one.🎶 Love Jim's voice and total vibe of the band. Thank you both for reacting to it!💞
This song was written by the guitarist, Robby Krieger, and it is basically written around the guitar solo that he wanted to play. It's different from their other songs for that reason - less poetic, more Dionysian and their biggest hit!
'60s MUSIC TRIVIA: The organ used by Ray Manzarek of the doors was a Vox Continental. The three most-heard organs of that musical period were the Vox Continental, the Hammond B3, and the Farfisa. The Doors did not have a bass player. On top of his Vox Continental, Manzarek had a Fender-Rhodes key bass.
When you consider this is 57 years old now !! It was was so progressive at the time ......amazing musicianship......you can really hear the Doors influence on some other bands..especially The Stranglers!!!!
I love to sing along to this great song. We lost Morrison far too early. Just think of the great music he and the band could have made in the 70s and beyond. Maybe in some parallel universe Morrison, Hendrix and Joplin got the chance to do exactly that.
the song is a jam ---I was about 11 when it came out -I still play keyboards today-The Animals & Doors were my main influence-the Animals were a big influence on the Doors--ask Robby Krieger---Ray Manzarek put some Bach in there it's rock -It's Jazz-It's GREAT
INSTRUMENTAL INTERLUDES IN THE MIDDLE OF SONGS: Until the early '70s, American radio was dominated by monaural AM radio and a format called Top 40 (referring to the top 40 songs in rotation). AM radio stations would not play a song that was longer than about 3 minutes long. Then FM stereo stations started playing longer versions of songs, and even whole sides of albums. FM stereo radio provided better audio fidelity, greater variety of music, and hard rock music that Top 40 AM stations refused to play, and soon FM stereo took over. Just before this, record companies had to produce two versions of songs -- the original, like the Doors song with the long instrumental in the middle, and a 3-minute version for Top 40.
Hello Andrei and Dominika! Don’t be worried about not liking songs or parts of songs. Music is very subjective and I’d rather people be honest when they react rather than some reactors that just love everything. I grew up listening to all the 60’s and 70’s music and I didn’t like it all, for sure. A big part of the music back then was also wrapped up in the things going on in the world. We still have a lot of the same happening now, but I see many more people who are ignorant of much of it. No worries. You just can’t like everything. The two of you are very sincere and it’s a joy seeing your honest reactions. Thank you!
I remember hearing this song for the first time, when I was about 12 years old, I thought it was some kind of a remix, or some studio effect, because I just couldn't believe that a living person can have this voice 😃 20 years later, I still love them. I think most songs are a bit "easier" for the first-time listener, and also there is a live version of this, where the middle part is cut out (probably some TV edit), Morrison's voice just explodes there at the end, I love it 🙂
Love the Doors my older brother got me into the band when he was in Highschool. His room was wall to wall of Doors posters. Wish you two would review Ween The Band and the Song Spirit Walker.
I agree. The middle section is too long. But, that's the way they decided to make some of their songs. The band liked jazz and jazz musicians at that time did long solo sections in their songs.
You make perfect sense. Back in the day, I was not a huge Jim Morrison fan, I was in the minority for sure! This was the psychedelic era of the 60's. I liked a lot of the music from that time, but still always thought of Jim Morrison as a bit vulgar, after he was arrested in Miami (my home town) for indecent exposure.
I understand your uneasiness with some of those places they go musically but don't let that impede your journey ... the Doors' music should be taken seriously. I can think of 20 of their songs that everyone should listen to.
Excelente video... por favor reaccionen a New Sensation de INXS del Live Baby Live... por favor... Muchas Gracias...!!! Saludos desde la CDMX 🇲🇽...Por cierto eres muy guapa Dominika...💋😍
This was indeed the longer, album version, with a long and meandering middle full of nondistinctive music. I'm sure you'd like the single version much better, as I do also, as it cuts out that nondistinctive middle and only includes the very beautiful rapid progressions that make the song stand out, along with Jim Morrison's vocals, of course.
Wow, for 50+ years I have always liked the longer version. I've never heard the musicianship of the instrumental segments referred to as "nondistinctive." To me, it makes the song.
They were from the Laurel Canyon area of LA where all the whos who of musicians lived in the 60s until the Manson gang went on the rampage and murder a number of celebrities. After that it fell apart unfortunately.
Probably the Greatest Decade of Any Kind of Rock Music Was From 1965 Thru 1975…
Just So Many Great Artist or Bands…
Made it 65 to 85.
@@Coolrockndad yeah but that isn't a decade.
I was 16 when this song came out...have loved it from first time I heard it ❤

I was 15 when the Doors movie came out. Massive fan ever since.
These people are out of it. They feel almost nothing and cerebralize what is clearly emotion. What a sad, backward culture they come from. Gug.
Their iconic tune, this song was so big in the late sixties. Made Morrison a superstar.
Classic huge #1 Song in 1967❤❤

Written by Doors guitarist Robbie Krieger. The is the BEST song from the Doors.

Love that late sixties B3 Hammond, before everyone switched to synths. Deep Purple, Blood Sweat & Tears, Steppenwolf, etc.
Sorry but that is a Vox continental organ & a Fender Rhodes keyboard bass
The Doors had their Pop/Rock radio songs like this, but they also had their underground songs like "The End," "Gloria," and "When the Music's Over" too.
"underground songs" = "drug songs". 😛
MR. MOJO RISIN 😅 The DOORS 🚪 FOREVER 😊
Simply a great Doors classic whether the long version or shorter one.🎶 Love Jim's voice and total vibe of the band. Thank you both for reacting to it!💞
I always loved the Doors.
I love that instrumental section, but I appreciate your honest opinion, as always! 👍 🤟

A brilliant band. Each member was brilliant
LA Woman is a must!
The keyboard player and Morrison are the stars of this song.

You get it you will see ❤
Andrei and Dominique. Doesn’t get any better than that. Written by Jim Morrison. Poet extraordinaire. RIP?

The longer version is so much better than the shorter version.

Share all you wish. You two good people are interesting. Love your reactions. Thank you both.
Still a jam.

Thank goodness you played the long version and not the AM radio short one. Gives the tune it's true feel.
NIIIIICCCCCE!!! 👍TIMELESSSSS 😊
Absolute keyboard masterclass from Ray Manzarek

Finally, "The Doors"
I'm glad you played/reacted to the long version. 🙂
thank you guys remebering my childhood ,lol dominica and andre but inever listen only the instruments only!
Love the Doors my older brother got me into the band when he was in Highschool. His room was wall to wall of Doors posters. Wish you two would review Ween The Band and the Song Spirit Walker.
drugs? drugs you say? how dare you?! good day, madam. i said GOOD DAY!
for a rather interesting contrast try listening to this same song by Joe Feliciano, is a diff vibe but still powerful...Great react!
I agree. The middle section is too long. But, that's the way they decided to make some of their songs. The band liked jazz and jazz musicians at that time did long solo sections in their songs.
Have you listened to a group called 'Swingout Sister' THEIR BIGGEST HIT ( PROBABLY ) FROM THE 1980s.....was called 'Breakout'.
Su mascota hace su parte! 😁❤️
Saludos ✌🏻😎🇨🇷
Tenemos algo de Luca Turilli o Rhapsody of Fire? 🤔
gotta do the live from the Hollywood Bowl in...think it's 1968
The keyboard player, Ray Manzarek, provided the bass notes with his organ foot pedals. There was no bass player in the lineup of this band.
You remember he radio single version which was 4 mins shorter.
They shortened the jam in the middle on AM radio stations back then.
You should try Road House Blues or L.A. Woman. I think Domica might like them better
I understand your uneasiness with some of those places they go musically but don't let that impede your journey ... the Doors' music should be taken seriously. I can think of 20 of their songs that everyone should listen to.
THE doors wrote it, but I THINK i heard it more on the radio played by JOSE Feliciano....
Excelente video... por favor reaccionen a New Sensation de INXS del Live Baby Live... por favor... Muchas Gracias...!!!
Saludos desde la CDMX 🇲🇽...Por cierto eres muy guapa Dominika...💋😍
Chuck manzsric keyboard Robbie. Crugar guitar
.Jim Morrison vocal
6th biggest hit of 1967.
I never did drugs, the music is brilliant/amazing. But if you don't like it so much, that's just you, it's fair.
I love you guys but, drugs or not, this is one of the greatest songs of all time, IMHO
There were a lot of drugs involved in writing and performing of this.
This was indeed the longer, album version, with a long and meandering middle full of nondistinctive music. Is the bass a synthesizer, or could the guitarist overdubed?
They sometimes had a studio session bass player.
The minute I saw her and I heard her speak. I knew she would not appreciate the music.
Now try Jose Feliciano’s verision.
Qué gran canción!
Dozens of more great bands from the 60s and 70s. Loosen up a little, smoke a j. You'll like music better. 😊
If Dominca has any issue with this song then do not listen to "The End," which is very dark.
Morrison, the original bad boy, I believe he got arrested at Miami concert for expose on stage, if not mistaken. But iconic figure.
the Lizard King was also charged with Lewd & Lascivious Behavior including "simulating oral copulation" on guitarist Robbie Krieger. cheeky devil!
They were from the Laurel Canyon area of LA where all the whos who of musicians lived in the 60s until the Manson gang went on the rampage and murder a number of celebrities. After that it fell apart unfortunately.
I feel the same way about some of the music! It makes me not quite as much a Doors fan! Some of their music, I just don't like!
