Thank you for doing this suggestion, it's always greatly appreciated. This is an excellent track of off the equally excellent album "Systems of Romance" the title track of which is great, this for me was the best incarnation of the band, John Foxx's solo work is just as good with tracks such as: "Underpass", "No-One Driving", "Film One", "Miles Away", "This Jungle", "Europe After the Rain", "You Were There", "Dancing Like a Gun", "When I Was a Man and You Were a Woman", "Annexe", "Burning Car".
Great album opener. In my opinion, Systems of Romance is one of Ultravox's best albums, along with Vienna and Rage in Eden (all three co-produced by the great Conny Plank). Ultravox was as good with John Foxx as it was with Midge Ure. It's 50/50 in my book. After his stint with Ultravox, guitarist Robin Simon also had a brief stint with Magazine, notably on their fantastic live album Play recorded at the Melbourne Festival Hall in September 1980, whose opening track, "Give Me Everything", you might like to try!😉
Love the John Foxx period Ultravox ! .. I have their "3 Into 1" album which is a great compilation of songs from their first 3 albums, when John was with them .. I also enjoyed a lot of his solo work, and have his "Assembly" album which is a compilation from his first 4 solo albums .. Midge Ure's Ultravox was OK ( particularly "Vienna" ), but for me it's the JF version that rules !
This was the leadoff track on the excellent Systems Of Romance album. Great vocal by Foxx & fine drums by Warren Cann. Saw the tour ( the last one with Foxx ) & band were on fire. Album was Produced by the legendary Connie Plank. Thanks for checking ✅️ it out !
This imho is the real Ultravox, with Midge Ure, they become a pop band and achieved great commercial success on board with the New Romantic movement. With John Foxx they were an eclectic mix of progressive electro punk!! Just mho!!! Systems of Romance was a great album. Unbelievably back in '77 or '78( I can't remember!!!) I saw them for 11 nights in a row at the Marquee Club in London......and they played a different set each time.😮
Lol 😂 it was 25p to get in, 85p return ticket on the underground, and as i was 16 i never drank more than two " "shandys "the whole night was less than a fiver.... mind you i was on £18 pw and my mum took £8 house keep😅😅@@Sandy-dd4le
@@markferrett700 I shudder to think what that same run of gigs would cost now! When I started going to gigs in the mid 80's, it was around £4 or £5 to see a band.
Numan acknowledges he wouldn’t have done what he did without Ultravox! doing it first and Foxx is happy to say Numan had much more success which he doesn’t begrudge him.
I prefer the Foxx-era Ultravox to the Ure-led band but Vienna is a superb (near faultless) album. Foxx's first solo platter - 1980's Metamatic - is a gem of proto dark wave and electronica
There’s no question that the original version of Ultravox was John Foxx’s vehicle and he was the focal point , this period coincided with them having modest cult status but almost no commercial success, mainly down to them being colossally awful imho .. luckily for music fans John Foxx decided he was too cool for Ultravox and went solo.. ( if your not sure I can’t stand the guy , I’ve given reasons before At length involving Underpass 🤨 )… It was only when Ultravox were relieved of his burden and got a proper musician , writer , singer in Midge Ure that they had massive success and actually earned some good money as well as critical acclaim . John Foxx has went on to become a part time musician with lots of gaps and very few live performances thank goodness 👀… I don’t rate him AT ALL as a musician , writer or performer and I wish a Pox on his house .. ! He’s a Fop and a Dandy and likely kicks Puppies every chance he gets 😳 👍🏴
Ah well, Jay .. This is one of those occasions, which have been fairly few to date, where we must agree to disagree .. Although Ultravox were far more successful, both in popularity and financially, under Midge Ure, I definitely prefer their music from the 3 albums they made with John Foxx .. I don't know much about him personally ( or whether he kicks puppies or not !🤐 ), but I just liked the feel of the music better .. I also liked quite a number of his solo songs, and have his compilation album "Assembly" .. I like a few of the Midge Ure period Ultravox songs as well, but nothing other than "Vienna" that really impressed me .. But it's always interesting to hear your take on things .. Cheers, Wayne
@ no worries Wayne , it’s great that we can differ so greatly on our fav or otherwise music and still be cordial and civil . Unlike with Chain the other day where some took personal offence , you recognise it’s not personal but just an opinion , opinions are like balls , we all have them but it’s best if other folk don’t insist theirs are better than your own 😆and get upset when you disagree 😃 👍🏴
@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering Well said, Jay .. I haven't got to the Chain reaction yet .. Heading off to check it out shortly .. They're a band that were pretty much legends here in Oz pub rock, and I actually saw them play live on a re-union pub tour .. They weren't bad, and I liked a few of their songs, but they're not the sort of thing that really presses my buttons .. Reaction video should be interesting.

Great track , great album. I love the tone of the guitar and synths throughout this entire album. Thanks!

Great review of a great song guys a good song to review from this version of ultravox would be Hiroshima mon amour from the ha!ha!ha! album
The better version of Ultravox, midge era also great. Could you do quiet men from this album. Thank you for the great review.
Excellent track by an excellent band, both Foxx and Ure versions were brilliant.
John Foxx & Gary Numan had a very friendly rivarly & Ultravox member Billy Currie played with Gary Numan briefly notably on Are Friends Electric ?

I do prefer John Foxx's time with them by far.
Me as well
Excellent choice guys there first 3 albums are outstanding your in for a real treat give them a listen great channel by the way 🎉
Not too bad a song, got a good beat. Got to be in the right mood to really get into this music though.
You need to do John fox solo work I suggest burning car etc etc😊
Solo John Foxx anyone?...."Underpass"
Hiroshima Mon amour and not the OGWT version!
