I saw the doors at public music hall in Cleveland. IT was magical to begin with because the Beatles appeared at the public music hall the first time they were in Cleveland. The night we saw the doors morrison was in great shape and they did almost a three hour show. Like I said, just magical!
Light My Fire by THE DOORS is an ultimate ROCK N’ ROLL CLASSIC!!!👍👍👍
The Doors was my first rock concert, I was just 15 in the Spring of '67 when I went to their show. This song was getting some air play on the radio but they didn't do it in concert much.
YES!
More of The Doors,please!
Hi Dani, thank you for listening to another Doors song. They had their own unique sound that cannot be duplicated and have never sold out to having their songs used in TV commercials. The Oliver Stone movie while quite entertaining actually did a major disservice to Jim Morrison’s legacy. I would recommend watching the Johnny Depp narrated documentary to get a better idea of what they were all about.
Try the live version of “Touch Me” or “The Crystal Ship “ to hear Morrison at his crooner best. Also did you know that Elvis’s bass player Jerry Scheff played on the Doors LA Woman album?
Yes, this is the performance where Sullivan wanted them to edit out “higher” but Jim sang the lyrics as originally written. It didn’t go down the way Oliver Stone’s movie depicted it, but then, surviving Doors members all remember the details differently as well. This was both their first and final appearance on Sullivan, who banned them from future appearances because Morrison didn’t cave to the show’s censorship attempt (apparently the Stones & others did edit their lyrics for Sullivan). You should check out the full performance from this show: They opened with an excellent rendition of “People Are Strange” (Sullivan’s introduction is so comically stiff when he announces the song title); Jim’s vocal is so good, the lights are down & he looks so Greek-god-like. Then the lights come up for what is arguably their best & most energetic performance of “Light My Fire” as shown in your reax video. Afterward, Sullivan decides not to go shake their hands as he often does with bands - instead he cuts straight to a cartoon dog food commercial!
Morrison's Father was an Admiral in the Navy. I was 12 years old in 1967 when my older sister bought the first Doors album and it blew me away.
Dani. So glad you enjoyed the movie and their music
I loved this song back in 67, still do as much. Hello I Love You, Love me Two Times, LA Woman and Moonlight Drive are my favorites. Keep up the good work, great video.
The Doors were the house band at Whisky a Go-Go on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. They got fired because of some of the murderous lyrics in their epic song The End.
Nice reaction!
This song introed us teens to Jim Morrison's Doors... Wow!
Their followup lp, StrangeDays, was even better: please play PeopleAreStrange, from it.
Good react Dani!! Thanx
There's a long version of this song.
Yes, this was the Ed Sullivan Show performance, and Ed let them have it about the censorship of the lyrics, and it was the only time they ever appeared on the show......
I'm sure it's already been mentioned . Yes This IS the Performance from The Ed Sullivan Show where Morrison blew off the censors & sang the songs lyrics as written & the Doors were "banned" by Sullivan to ever appear again on his show. On a side comment, I Love watching a whole new generation finding out about "Why ?" was some particular artist from long ago was so important . They star finding out and say to themselves "Oh ! ...."
Yes, the 1991 film by Oliver Stone. Very good movie. Val Kilmer should've at least been nominated for an Oscar. He really got into that role. I'm sure they embellished quite a few things and Morrison probably wasn't as aloof 24/7 as the film seems to make him. The BEST scene in that movie is when they perform the song "The End" and how it transitions from when they're doing peyote out in the desert to performance live at the legendary Whiskey A Go Go.
I wouldn't take that Oliver Stone film as historical fact, that would be a mistake....
This is the performance.
His dad didn’t even know he sang music and was shocked when he seen him singing on National television. True Story
Wow really lol 😂
Jim Morrisons and the Doors best band ever !!
Dani Atkinson Awesome DOORS video and reaction!!!👍👍👍
Up yours, Ed. :) But thanks for the intro to The Beatles.
Ed Sullivan show and story with it.Can also see this on American Bandstand. Great show and informative, Dani.
fuckin historic iconic the doors and jim legends!
Dani I forgot I saw that movie. I think Meg Ryan was his girlfriend in it. Great movie
❤Early on,Linda Ronstadt opened for the Doors . OH BOY.
Just think if Jim had just a little appreciation of things in his life? The missing ingredient! Thanks Dani!
Great song. TYD., 💐💐💐
Best version of this song at 1970 Isle of Wight Festival
Steppenwolf was also good in those years..
Magic Carpet Ride and Born to be Wild are classics
Dani Atkinson👍👍👍
Look in his eyes. He could not get much higher and still stay standing. He is one of those died too young because he was too screwed up.
He was basically a drunk who through it all away. I had tickets to the Doors show in Miami where he was so drunk on stage exposed his pecker to the crowd and got into a lot of trouble.
Women like Morrison because he was good looking, and men like Morrison for the women he could attracted.
Hey Dani love your reactions they are spot on, last I saw you a long while ago, you had a busted black eye. Hope he or she is gone that busted your eye, anyway the doors are great. Keep reacting Dani you are so cute
Hah thank you Mike! Nobody punched me in the eye, I had a skin tag removed and it was a result of that procedure lol thank you for being part of the community!!
Please react to ROADHOUSE BLUES studio version by the Doors ! next
Hi Dani: Great perspective on Morrison. If you hit on them again, I second an earlier request for "Hello, I Love You". BTW, how tripped out was Morrison on this clip?
I will check that one out!
You should have done the long version from the album.
Val Kilmer IS Jim Morrison 😘
He played an iconic role
This video is the actual Ed Sullivan performance of Light My Fire. The movie embellished it a little/lot.
The sad part of this whole story is that so many people looked at Morrison as the "Doors," and ignored the rest of this band, which had incredible musicians. Val Kilmer who played him in the film was asked what he thought of Morrison and said "I think he was an overindulgent egotist and asshole." He had opportunities to get counseling for his "daddy problems" but refused them and "wallowed in his own mire" until it did him in. The music was great but he detracted from it. I paid to see them once, but the show was cancelled because he was too out of it to perform. That kind of tells you alot about him right there. Many other musicians have played through sickness and pain because the fans came first. I don't have a lot of sympathy for him. As for the rest of the band I suggest you listen to the longer version of this song and you will see just how good they were. Just my thoughts and I realize my position isn't that popular, but it is what it is.
Wow so interesting!! He couldn’t see past his own demons and appreciate what was in front of him.
agree. i said before, jm was a privileged narcissist. there was way more to the band than just him.
"Overindulgent egotist and asshole" is oliver stone's creation. The people who actually knew jim tell another story.
Hey check out elvis presley it's now and never
Sure, but the Doors hated it cause it wasn't the way it was.
The film represented a Jim which definitely did not exist.
It was pretty much pure entertainment..
Jim was not defiant. He was more a soft, more thoughtful, troubled poet cause he he saw things more as they were than just making catching tunes.
Most of the hit tunes were written by their guitarist, Robbie Krieger.
These 1st listens are all, so far, make me very sad.
The movie was not an accurate representation of Jim Morrison. This is according someone who would know that being Ray Manzarek. Please try watching a documentary for a more accurate and fair depiction of this man.
You are reacting to that very Ed Sullivan appearance here. Did you not know this when you chose this version? You should have just did the album version, much better.
They also did a great performance of People Are Strange right before this song on the show.
hello young lady
