Hey everyone, thanks for watching! If you enjoy the videos please remember to like and subscribe. What happened in their duel? Did the Elder Wand betray Grindelwald during his duel with Dumbledore? Or was he simply overpowered regardless?
Maybe it even comes to love Dumbledore fighted for the good to protect people and some of his loved ones he didn't want the wand for power or kill anyone he used it for the good and with respect and superior skill maybe that's why elder wand would choose him
DUmbledore will fail to destroy the Blood Pact, and th's why it will take him so long. In the end he will sacrifize Credence and use some magical beasts and other third means, not the spells, to disarm and capture Grindelwald. We even get a hint from Newt, when the sniffler steals the Blood Pact, that there are things GG doesn't understand or tends to ignore, just like Voldemort underestimated love
According to something I read sometime ago, it was stated that Grindewald was a very powerful legilemens. I believe that is what allowed him to amass so many followers. By possessing that ability Grindewald was very persuasive and manipulative that he could read a persons mind and use that to his advantage to gain more followers.
@@nathancarabajal8271 he could foresee the future not read minds. although his predictions were better then the others, he did not get things perfectly right. for example it is thought that he saw Dumbledore's letter, the one with the hole for the greater good thing before he met him so he used his believes to get to him.
If Grindlewald and Dumbledore would be together then they both would be the supreme powers of the wizarding world. But if Grindlewald won't be defeated then you can't have Dumbledore with the elder wand
Just give Grindelwald seven horcruxes and then tell me Voldemort is stronger. I just feel they were both after different things. Grindelwald didn't care for immortality and to increase his power after he got the wand. Grindelwald is the athlete with a Ferrari and Voldemort is the valedictorian with a Lamborghini.
Horcruxes don't matter in a fight or make someone more powerful. All they do is stop Voldemort's soul from moving on to the afterlife if his body's killed.
Pretty sure he is interested in eternal life..."will we die just a little"...and the whole point of the Deathly Hallows is beating Death. Don't you think?
I disagree. He also wanted to attain immortality. His means were different. He decided to ise the Hallows while Voldy decided to use Horcruxes. And don't forget that Voldy was closer to immortality than anyone else. Not even Grindelwald. But of course no one can be immortal as dear Harry Potter proved.
Let's not forget the fire spell Grindelwald used in crimes of Grindelwald was going to destroy all of Paris, which is the highest feat any wizard in Harry potter has done
Of the spells recorded honey. Dumbledore must have used one of the greatest spells ever to defeat grinderWald, thus having their battle dubbed as the greatest of all time
i would like that too but i am asking myself what would happen if there was a big internationally active terrorist with lots of influence that got caught. Where would he go to prison? I would believe that the US and their lackies would try to get their hands on him for questioning but what if the ppl that caught him are not friends of the US and simply dont extradite him? Or maybe he is cooperative and tells them everything they want to know in exchange for better imprisonment conditions? They certainly can do a lot with this question. We will see if they use it well. (but i would be happy with Dumbledore just arranging this, too)
Dumbledore was a more intelligent, skilled and talented wizard. That's one of the only ways the Elder Wand would betray Grindewald. The wand chooses the wizard. It could also be Dumbledore disarmed Grindewald that day Ariana died, during their duel, and the wand recognized Dumbledore as the superior because of this.
@@mrfinch5246 He didn't have the wand in that fight, he was defeated by Dumbledore prior to their historical battle. He proved himself to be a more talented wizard against an "undefeatable" wand after the fact. Mind boggling if you think about it.
Brian Murphy Dumbledore and Grindelwald made the blood pack so i doubt they even successfully used a spell on eatchother. In the book when dumbledore drinks the cave potion, he relives the moment when grindelwald used crucio on Aberforth. And he screams ”dont hurt them, please hurt me instead!”. Which to me implies that dumbledore COULDN’T help his siblings. Dumbledore would never ask someone to stop torturing, HE WOULD JUST STOP THEM HIMSELF.
It has nothing to do with talent or intelligence, Dumbledore was far more talented than Malfoy however Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore to gain the elder wands allegiance. In order to gain the wands loyalty you must either disarm or defeat the current wand holder.
Grindelwald didnt have the elder wand at that point. Im pretty sure grindelwald would have needed to be master of the elder wand when he was (theoretically) disarmed by Dumbledore
I still argue that grindelwald and dumbledore were both more powerfull than voldemort. Only difference is that both of them still had some humanity (not so obvious with grindelwald, but "for the greater good" is, whilst still wrong, not the same as pure lust to kill)
It is said that Voldy was the most powerful dark wizard, that tells me that he was only good with dark magic really, so Grindelwald is even more powerful than him
@@randomshit308 its stated that grindelwald is also a dark wizard so Voldemort is more powerful than him. However i still believe that grindelwald would beat Voldemort in a duel
voldemort is probably umatched in the dark arts, yes but he has a lack of understanding for lots of other magic and grindelwald and dumbledore both where skilled in almost any subject or at least had knowledge about it. To choose not to follow something doesn't make you necessarely less powerful. So as a whole, voldi is not as powerful as the other two, even if he is more skiled and knowledgeable in one field of magic (although I even doubt that)
I'd say that Grindlewald is just as heartless as Voldemort he's just more charismatic and good at pretending he has humanity. (The greater good) was just a tool he used to control his followers and make it appear he was serving a noble cause. If you can manipulate Dumbledore then you must be an extremely good manipulator.
@@saljpal3 yes, the results are pretty much the same but the origins are different. If you go to extrem measures to achieve a goal, may it be with good intentions or for "the greater good" or not, extremism means leaving feelings and ethics behind. I think even then there is a fundamental difference between a purely powerhungry and crazzy, murderous bastard and a powerhungry intelect that is driven to extremism... This difference becomes visible if you think about why grindelwald accepted his imprisonment, whilst Riddle would have fought against it until the verry end, should he have been captured.
@@baconboi4482 their are many possibilities with the magical world JK have created she could make charecter movie back stories and before time like she did with the fantastic beast before Voldemort and Harry Potter But JK seems tired of it or just lazy or just don't have the mind and interests any longer But if she is gonna stop making movies and books about the migical world I'm glad if we get the history of Grindelwald and Dumbledore mixed with Newt and the migical creatures
If Gilderoy Lockhart was there he would have killed both dumbledore and Grindelwald just by waving his wand and then he would smile like he done in chamber of secrets
Lockhart would try to oblivaite Dumbledore and Grindelwald as that is the only spell he can auctually do (As mentioned in the Chamber of Secrets where Lockhart, Ron and Harry head into the Chamber, though I auctually think he said that he was good with mind magic? Which the oblivaite would fall under I think, Makes me wonder if he could successfully place someone under the Imperius Curse as that curse would fall under Mind Magic too?)
I think grindelwald wasn't put in azkaban for one reason: Dumbledore said not to. Dumbledore didn't want to see his friend from long ago subjected to the dementors
He would escape easily, dementors are completely useless against someone with purpose!! Like Bellatrix and Sirius, They basically can't "see" you If all you have on your mind is hope They just latch on to already present dark thoughts and amplify
No matte how, I really hope Dumbledore would visit Grindelwald during the long 53 years. Being alone in a dark room with the same blanket for 53 years... how cruel and lonely😭 Grindelwald reflected his behaviour and regretted what he had done. He’s no longer a bad person like before. He deserved the punishment to be in prison for life as he killed aurors during battle but as he changed and regretted, I think he also deserved visits from the one he loved. Not only did he know that he is wrong, he also protected Dumbledore til the end by not telling Voldemort about the Elder wand. He never betrayed Dumbledore!!! He still loved Dumbledore for 53 years even without seeing him at all. Besides, speaking of personality, unlike Voldemort, Grindelwald didn’t force people to follow him by creating fear. Grindelwald didn’t do massacre like Voldemort too. Voldemort killed many more than him. Yet Voldemort didn’t even hv to suffer the coldness and loneliness in a dark cell for half a century… it’s completely unfair to Grindelwald. It really breaks my heart when knowing that Voldemort’s visit was the only day when Grindelwald woke up and found that he’s not alone💔 In current days, even life sentenced prisoners will be given chance to communicate with family by visiting or writing letters and also breathe fresh air. In many countries, life sentenced prisoners can even be released at their old age if they behaved well in prison and realised the fault they did. Let’s do the wizard world a favour that now I don’t demand the releasing of Grindelwald. But just visits from Dumbledore is totally reasonable considering he behaved so well in prison and he regretted what he did. He loved Dumbledore and protected him til the end… I really hope Dumbledore would have visited him during the 53 years😔
For me, Dumbledore casting the "firestorm" spell and then using Partis Temporus on it (while surrounded by an army of dead corpses AND made sick by the potion) is the most impressive power demonstration we can see in the movies.
@@cedriceric9730 I dont think you understand how sick the potion makes you feel. Just imagine craving a cookie, even on a good day, how hard it is to resist having a bite of something. Magnify that by a million and he could still focus and execute a perfect spell. Yeah, my ass. Hes a legend with that alone. I dont think a good majority of potter fans realize the actual power of certain spells and the influence they put people under.
We have also to remember that nicholas flammel said that if they didnt stop the protego diabolica spell, it would destroy the entire city of Paris, that spell is by far the most powerfull we have seen in the wizarding world so far.
@@cb7394 fantastic beasts the crimes of grindelwald screenplay. He says the paris would be destroyed right before they all work together to destroy the spell
@@harshrajsharma5050 yes you are right. i would like to know if it could do as much damage as protego diabolia (destroy a whole city for example). The fire from protego diabolica apparently can obliterate ppl instantly, does the fire from fiendfyre do the same? or it's a regular fire that burns your skin? if so, it's less powerful than protego diabolica. I guess we dont have the answer yet ;/ but yes, fiendfyre is one the most powerful spells too!
@@thebluecamo905 I have a feeling that Just Kidding Rowling has something wrong with white people. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Sadly, she may say that given how much she likes to follow public opinion. Also, if anyone is to respond to this reply, please carry some discretion.
When they shoot the final fight between these two I really hope they showcase the true power of Dumbledore. I want to see why voldemort & others feared him . I would also prefer it to be a multi scene fight instead of the voldemort vs Dumbledore battle. I see it switching between a secondary plot involving newt .
@@VideosOfRandomContext wow what a comment! I think you are right about what becomes in the third en fourth movie, but I don’t think Dumbledore have killed Credence. That makes no sense to me
Interesting. This reminds me of Xmen, and how Magneto and Professor X had different views and goals in regard to how to deal with the “normal humans”. Very close friends at first, then enemies.
True, voldy was selfish. He wanted immortality and power for himself. Grindelwald wanted power, yes, but he wanted to free his people from centuries of oppresion and secrecy.
The only reason Voldemort is seen as stronger is because he wanted to be a selfish tyrant who is feared by everyone...but Grindelwald didn't want...he did everything for the greater good ( according to him )
@@BC08 I just wanna ask a question. Just a random one. I don't understand, how in the world in Merlin better than Dumbledore in any way? I have always been confused about how Merlin is the greatest wizard ever and not Dumbledore.
@@BC08 While we haven't seen Merlin as of yet. Your right in saying his reputation proceeds him. He's Op in Arthurian, Marvel, DC and Druidic literary universes and has been described in the Hp universe as one of the best ever. I'd argue if he's better than Dumbeldore, Gryffindor and Harry then Morgane le fey is better than Grindelwald, Slytherin and Voldemort.
I think it’s reasonable to assume that at the time of their duel of legend, Dumbledoor is significantly more powerful than Grindlewald. Grindlewald had the elder wand and Albus Loved him, truly and deeply loved him and probably didn’t want to hurt him but he knew he had to stop him. That’s two huge handicaps in the favour of Grindlewald if he intended to Kill Dumbledoor. But Dumbledoor won, and without killing Grindlewald. That’s because he was simply more powerful.
@@shadowx2750 Well, Dumbledore did say this in the Order of the Phoenix: "I knew that Voldemort's knowledge of magic is perhaps more extensive than any wizard alive. I knew that even my most complex protective spells and charms were unlikely to be invincible if he ever returned to full power."
@Sam Samson Grindelwald didn't start in the country with Dumbledore. The books confirm that Voldemort's more powerful, more knowledgeable, more feared and more dangerous than Grindelwald.
Voldemort is no tougher then grindawald, just has better press coverage. seriously, grindawald defeated by a Dumbledore in his prime vs voldy with a massive army defeated by a baby and a student. Grindawald is not weaker then Voldimort , people just have that perception because voldemoprt was actually evil, whereas so far grindawald just hass a purpose which a lot of other people at the time agree'd with so he didn't seem as evil. Also movies so far portraying Grindawald as a lot more capable then fail at everything egotistical voldy
Dumbledore never defeated Voldemort in a 1 to 1 combat, maybe it's because Dumbledore knew that defeating Voldemort is useless, or maybe because he couldn't defeat him without using some dark magic.
now listen it is stated that voldemort had powers that not even dumbledore knew. Dumbledore defeated grindelwald without the elder wand and dumbledore could not defeat voldemort with the elder wand and that is not all. Voldemort got the most experienced dumbledore on the floor. And grindelwald could not even beat less experienced dumbledore and the younger dumbledore. Dumbledore said himself that voldemort was the greatest dark wizard of all time. They were even afraid to say voldemorts name and grindelwald were not that feared.
@@summoner3438 So Voldimort has more knowledge, and magically abilities, that doesn't make you powerful. Your message alone can make you more powerful then leading by fear. You are certainly correct Voldemort was more feared , in the end all that fear ran away when harry woke up again and all of Voldemorts army ran away. Grindelwald isn't remembered because he was the most powerful in terms of magic strength but by leading an actual revolt in which people believed, though not to say he is pathetically weak either. I'd like to think more people fully believed in Grindelwald's ideas and would be more invested in helping him then Voldemort. and I think I would fear Grindelwald in that regard more then Voldemort.
It will happen and probably, during the clash of their wands, memories will flash back. Then grindelwald will remember the "love" which will result in his defeat. Hahaha. It was always love. Just like what happened in Harry Potter.
The films ruined Grindelwald’s story. In the end he didn’t betray Dumbledore which in a way redeemed him but they changed that in the films. Bet they regret that now...
I was mad as well... Why couldn't they just stick to the books i mean what's the point of straying away from that? They totally destroyed Grindelwald's redemption arc in the book.
gneiss dinosaur I read the books in first grade When I watched the seventh movie, I was pissed as hell, even more pissed than the “dumbledore said calmly” thing The change did absolutely nothing
Nah he didn't care at all about dumbledore now, don't you remember in fb2 he says the only person standing in his way is dumbledore, and he wants to therefore kill him, but the blood pact prevented him, he clearly hated, and had no feelings left for dumbledore now, they were arch enemies
He disarmed Gregorovitch. And that can't happen because Malfoy is weaker than Dumbledore. Voldemort undestood that the elder wand didn't obey him only in 20 hours. Grindelwald is more clever. He would understand it in a minute
Grindelwald Okay this is fair, maybe the wand recognized the blood bond the two shared and with this couldn’t deal a blow to dumbledore, if he turned this to his advantage and won the duel that would explain the switch of allegiance. And the same could be true for the piece of Harry’s blood inside Voldemort at the ballet of hogwarts.
The reason Dumbledore never sent Grinderwald to Azkaban was because he didn't like the dementors in the first place , he knew their loyalties could shift besides he did love Grinderwald so he couldn't have exactly supported Azkaban. He probably used the influence accumulated from defeating Grinderwald to ensure he was put in Numergard
Saying that Dumbledore was the yin to Grindelwald's yang is an obvious yet common mistake. Yin means shady, dark and negative (black colour), while yang means sunny, bright and positive (white colour). Thus, Dumbledore is the yang to Grindelwald's yin, provided of course that Dumbledore represents the good side of magic.
One thing we have to take into context, notice how grindlewald stole the wand and wasn’t the true owner, nor did he “earn” its loyalty so I’m sure dumbledore took advantage of that fact
In the movie it did say that in the night someone stole the wand and killed it's owner for good measure. So technically, he did kill the owner of the wand.
@@Jay-ate-a-bug grindlewald never killed gregorovic to therefore never actually got true ownership. unless he was already more skilled than the shop owner (which is possible) then he never gained its true loyalty.
What if Ariana couldn’t control her magical abilities because she was an obscurial. Then after the duel and her death, the obscurial went to credence. This would mean credence is sort of dumbeldores brother. This would mean Grindelwald wasn’t lying.
James Yarrow That’d be a good video. Also, what will also be a good video is why Harry Potter wasn’t an Obscurial. Now I know the reason why, but I’d like to see @Harry Potter Theory make it into a video.
obscurial are not pass on they are created when a wizard or witch hates the magic within them or they had a traumatic event that cause them to hate their magics for example arian
Technically, Dumbledore could’ve just casted an Expelliarmus spell at Grindelwald and the elder wand would answer him, just like how the wand answered Draco after he disarmed Dumbledore So there are chances that Albus used the elder wand to defeat Gellert
I believe Grindelwald ultimately surrendered to Dumbledore. Dumbledore had humility bc, though he was powerful, he wasn't 'the greatest'; Grindelwald found part of his humanity, proving that later by not betraying Dumbledore in his final moments. Mutual respect, understanding if not approval, love.
Askaban was the Wizzard prison for the ministry of magic in England. Grindelwald crimes never extended to their even tho he was defeated by Dumbledore he never committed crimes in England. (At least according to the original lore)
I would guess, theres a gigantic duel. They both fight to a standstill, then Dumbledore uses his ability to communicate and inspire, to indeed, get Grendlewald to give up, rather than kill Albus. In otherwords, like always, my guess is that he uses kind yet stern love to defeat him.
I don’t recall Voldemort killing grindwald when visiting him. He did go see him but did he really kill him? He ran off as soon as he told him who had the wand in the film. But I’m guessing he killed him in the book then? Anyone?
What if Grindevald predicted the outcome of their duel. He saw that he will kill Dumbledore. But he didn't want to because he still loved Albus. So he surrendered.

Désolé mais même en étant un grand fan de la saga Harry potter je ne voit pas comment Voldemort pourrait vaincre Grindelwald
Yes he was, Voldemort was the most powerful "Dark wizard" and "Only" a dark wizard. Grindelwald was master in dark wizad, persuasion and ruthless killings as well as love. Grindelwad overall was the most powerful villain of the two. Voldy was the overall most powerful dark magic wizard. And then we have Dumbledore. The Greatest Wizard of all time. Grindelwald with the elder wand was 10 times stronger than Voldy would have been. Voldemort focused on a particular duel, Grindelwald focused on the overall war.
[5:15] And THIS is the reason why you need to clarify whether you are talking about a movie or a book. In film? Yes, they made a blood pact. Which made Dumbledore reluctant to confront Grindelwald. Although he received this pact a dozen or so years before their battle, judging by the canon of the books, so it is likely that the book reason is still valid. In the book? Then this is not entirely true, since Dumbledore was afraid not to confront Grindelwald, but he was afraid to find out that it was he who killed his sister. He was never omnipotent and fearless.
I have a feeling that Grindelwald’s blue flame ring and Dumbledore’s normal flame ring will be seen and used at the same time with them at the centre as Dumbledore’s flames are an above head spell and Grindelwald’s is a ground flame spell. The chance to see the two of them duking it out in a ring of impenetrable blue and red flames would surely be a terrible opportunity to miss. The flames could quite literally be battling one another whilst the two wizards themselves are firing off other spells at one another. Not only would it be cinematically beautiful but it would also sort of parallel the colour of the spells that Harry and Voldemort most commonly used against one another (Harry’s spell being expelliamus which is red in colour and Voldemort’s being avada kedavra which is green. It would be a subtle nod to later events in the timeline as well as strengthening the bond between Harry and Dumbledore as the hero figure. It would also serve as a call back to the previous movie where the blue flames were turned red only by the power of several powerful wizards using finite. This would be a subtle nod to Dumbledore’s true power as his ability alone would be shown to be as great as many other wizards combined much like Grindelwald who defeated many wizards simultaneously, in the previous instalment. It would also cement the idea that it was a battle between Dumbledore and Grindelwald alone as it had never been mentioned that Newt or anybody else was involved. It would make sense that Newt wouldn’t be able to assist as he physically wouldn’t be able to get into the ring of flames. The only person who could would be Dumbledore as we see in the previous movie that only people who follow Grindelwald are able to pass through the flames. It would make sense that the flames wouldn’t hurt Dumbledore because of their strong connection or perhaps the blood pact would cancel out the effects of the flames on Dumbledore who then destroys it so as to fight his former friend.
Because the romantic side is only implied and not actually written. Just as his sexuality is never stated at any point in the series nor is it even implied through the HP books. Only when JK confirmed it did it become widely accepted canon.
@@SteazySnowSports It was actually implied in the books, by chars like Rita Skeeter or even by Dumbledore ( the way he talked about Grindelwald suggested they had some thing going on ). Not to mention the fact that it was confirmed in the new movies, Dumbledore himself said they were more than friends/ brothers.
This legendary battle is said to have lasted for hours... I expect this fight to be AT LEAST 30 minutes in the movie... If not it would be a crime to the audience lol
I expect the 4th film called "the greatest duel of all time" And just be 2 hours of dueling... Would suck probably, but also would be dope and a first in Cinema history
I feel like Grindewald after being defeated probably never attempted to escape, that, or this very prison was designed by himself to keep Dumbledore, a perfect prison that he cannot escape, not even himself. However seeing as how Voldemort had no problem getting in and out just like that, I lean towards the first theory.
I believe when the battle began Grinedelwald still believe the blood pact was intact and held back and as a result the elder wand turned on him and give dumbledore the opening needed to win.
We have only seen the consequence of a bloodpact. But how does it really work? All we know is that the two Wizards that binded with it cannot fight or exchange spells. But exactly how? Does it nullify their spell when directed to each other? Does it create a shield between them?
I fully endorse Grindelwald's statement 'for the greater good'. We want burgers without fat, young children to be able to play in parks, young women and men to be able to walk down the darkest alleys, without fear, but we want this without the harsh element, we want a society where pedophiles, rapists and murderers would be so terrified of the police and the courts. As Robespierre said, 'terror without virtue is destructive, virtue without terror is impotent'. And I am quoting from a man who lived in the Eighteenth century.
Yes and a man who had many innocent people sentenced to death simply for being born into the aristocracy. Some were children. Keep in mind everytime someone says "for the greater good." Question whose greater good is the actions being taken for? Hitler, Stalin, Lenin, Pol Pot ,Ho Chi Minh, and Mao Tse Tung all claimed to be acting in the greater good. All committed horrible atrocities upon their own people in the Name of the greater good. Robespierre was no different. His committee of public safety was neither for the public's benefit nor committed to the public's safety. But simply to appease his own sense of power. In the end he met his own fate in the same fashion that he dealt to others.
I still think one of the best scenes (in the HP films) is Grindelwald greeting Voldemort with 'Hi, Tom' when he's looking for the Elder Wand and just before killing him. Grindelwald clearly didn't think highly of him...
How could the duel between Grindelwald, Dumbledore, and Aberforth have happened if the blood pact was in place? Was it created after out of guilt? Or is JK just creating more inconsistencies?
You have a point Dumbledore moved on from Grindelwald after that since the duel killed his sister. Since they dueled it had to happen afterwards but they were an impasse because of that duel and moved on from each other. So it doesn't make sense for the blood pact to happen afterward. I hope she comes up with an explanation that makes sense.
Maybe they duelled despite the bloodpackt and in it they both discovered they couldn't harm each other. Even that if they tried, spells would bounce off and harm others. Dumbledore trying to kill Grindelwald and a backfire kills Ariane
@@edopronk1303 Or what if they can duel despite the blood pact, but similarly to liquid luck (potion that makes things automatically go your way), the blood pact always produces bad luck or tragedies that stick for the rule breakers entire life if broken, and when they dueled the blood pact caused Ariana’s death to occur?
@@firefire7529 now that's interesting, good thought. Because dying really is not in as much a curse. But bearing the guilt of harming or killing a loved one for a lifetime,on the other hand. Unless one is a complete sociopath That requires some thought.
I would really love a video on Grindelwald and what made him so dangerous, his magic explained. Don't really care if it is non-canon and just a fan-theory as long it is believable.
i want to say this, all those things that u see in dumbledore vs voldemort duel in movies, it never happends in the books and in the books it was so epic
I always saw the blue fire at the end of Crimes of Grindelwald as similar magic to the age line Dumbledore cast in GOF: A blue, firey circle, surrounding an object/person, which only lets through those who fit the criteria set by he caster. It would make sense that Dumbledore wouldn't have the line kill his students, choosing to just jinx them, whereas Grindelwald would want the spectacle of those who aren't actually on his side burning in the flames as they tried to lie to him. I could be totally off, but I always say those to be the same type of magic.
The first dark lord was a match for Dumbledore however he held the elder wand as its true owner. The only way Dumbledore could have won is if he was ALLOWED to win. The reason is because his heart still belonged to Albus. (They were in love)
While I believe That Grindelwald is more powerful then You-know-who, he did hold back quite a lot. Gindelwald was more of a politician whereas Voldemort was just a very talented lunatic. If Grindelwald was as ruthless as Voldemort then he would have probable succeeded in his plan.
When did Dumbledore and grindewald enter that blood pact? I knew they had a duel albeit a three way one including aberforth. Woudlnt that have an effect on the blood pact? Just after the fight and Ariana's death, grindewald fled. I'm a little confused
@@saljpal3 actually no. the wording is a three-way duel, it doesn't state Albus or Gellert attacked each other, as Aberforth was there, and technically Ariana was there, so who was really involved in the three-way duel?
@@noahcrawford8222 Voldermort was more powerful if he hadn't been so obsessed with harry Potter , this was the weakness Dumbledore siezed upon to ultimately defeat him. His horcruxes gave him a foolish confidence so he always just blazed like a tank
I bet the fight ends with Dumbledore catching Grindelwald with a simple spell, such as expelliarmus, albeit after the two great wizards match against one another with some pretty amazing magic. I say this, bc the two men had some romance in their youth and while Grindelwald is a dark wizard, he does know love and may still hold onto hope for Dumbledore. Also, both wizards possess powerful spells that would certainly kill the other if not blocked, and if Grindelwald blocks such a spell cast by Dumbledore, it is unlikely to win Dumbledore the duel and thereby the loyalty of the elder wand.
Since Grindelwald was in posession of the unbeatable wand, Dumbledore had to find a way, at some point, to stop him from using the wand -- distract him or make him pause in his tracks. Rita Skeeter hints that Grindelwald willingly surrendered to Dumbledore, and usually, Skeeter works by distorting the truth rather than inventing outright lies. So what I guess (or more precisely hope) is that Dumbeldore managed to make Grindelwald face the true horror of what he's been doing, targeting that tiny bit of empathy that distinguished Grindelwald from Voldemort (who had none whatsoever). The inspiration for this idea came to me from another magical universe -- Terry Pratchett's Discworld. In Pratchett's novel "Wyrd Systers", the witch Granny Weatherwax forces Lady Felmet, the Lady-Macbeth-like antagonist, to experience her true nature. As Weatherwax explains to her fellow-witches: 'No-one becomes like she is without building walls inside their head [...] I’ve just knocked them down. Every scream. Every plea. Every pang of guilt. Every twinge of conscience. All at once. There's a little trick to it.' Dumbledore could still have used all the spectacular elemental spells to overcome Grindewald's army, and to stop Grindewald from killing him. Once he got close enough, however, I would like to see him take advantage of a moment of distraction to plant a sort conscience-awakening spell on Grindelwald -- one that would only work because Grindelwald, unlike Voldemort, does have some conscience left. Forced to confront the full horror of the deaths and suffering he caused - among people whom, he persuaded himself, he was seeking to lead and defend -- Grindelwald would then indeed lose the will to fight for a few moments, just long enough for Dumbledore to disarm and capture him. This would also help explain why, eventually, Grindelwald experienced genuine remorse for what he's done.
Are u serious u believe Rita skeeter she rarely tells the truth her telling that grindelwald surrendered himself it's an invention of her own even bathilda couldn't have told her that cuz she wasn't there when they dueled she just wanted to create mayhem among those who loved and respected albus
@@theb.i.gnotorious9127 Rita would only resort to outright lies if she didn't have a half-truth to lean on; and often the lies she peddles aren't her own (which is not meant to excuse her: when she peddles other people's lies, she does it for her convenience, and never bothers to check whether there's any truth to it). For instance, she was quite correct in implying that there was something wrong with Arianna Dumbledore, and that her death had something to do with Grindewald's relations with Albus (even though she neither knew nor cared about the details; I'm sure that, had she known Arianna had an obscurus, she would have run with it, as it's even more sensational than her being a squib). More to the point, I don't believe Rowling would have planted that hint about Grindelwald's surrender if she had simply meant it to be a complete fabrication. More likely, it's a rumour that Rita heard which is partly based in fact, though not in the way she thought -- as was the case with Arianna).
Dumbledore`s greatest weapon against the Dark Arts was its antithesis: love and compassion; selflessness instead of the inherently diminishing selfishness. I think the clue for this is in the Deathly Hallows in the books that Hermione Granger summoned from Dumbledore`s office after his death - in researching the Horcruxes she discovered the nearly deadly antidote to ripping a soul apart: remorse, or the expression of love that is compassion for your victims. Thus, I think Dumbledore, knowing this, after reading these Dark Arts` books, used this unassailably potent force to overwhelm and defeat Grindlewald; the Latin for `feel the pain you caused` is "dolorem fecisti" and could well serve to force a dark wizard to finally connect with his victims in an attempt to fuse their shredded soul in to its natural whole state. Remember that magical powers are almost always directly affected by the witch or wizard`s mental state, indeed to use any of the unforgiveable spells you have to [mean] them for them to be effective. So it follows that a wizard that is suddenly overcome with an emotional feedback of all those they have murdered or maligned could render them impotent for long enough for them to be defeated and disarmed?
How was Dumbledore able to duel Grindelwald in the 3 way fight that killed his sister, if they had a blood pact? As Grindelwald fled immediately after she was killed, so it could not have taken place after.
they were young, and despite having that magical prowess, maybe they still didn't understand exactly how the blood pact worked. plus, Aberforth was involved, so who's to say whose spell was whose
Amazing video! Love all the information. I didn't know quite a lot of it, very interesting. Wouldn't it be interesting/ironic if the spell Dumbledore used was expelliarmus to finally defeat Grindelwald. Keep up your great work with your content ⚡💗. Stay safe everyone💓.
You stated that " ......and after defeating him won the allegiance og the Elder Wand". What I don't understand is how Grindelwald first won the allegiance of the wand as he stole it. It is known that the previous owner of the wand has to be defeated to win a wand's allegiance while Grindelwald just stole the wand but did not kill Gregorovitch. So how did it happen????? Can you answer that, please????
The elder wand is a very complex one. It was passed from different masters. Its history of possession is very dark and bloody. The elder wand absorbs some of the power of its previous masters thus making it so powerful to use. The loyalty of the wand is rumored to be based on its ego. As a wand famed for its dark past and powerful masters, the wand can't be loyal to a weakling since it's not an ordinary wand. Basically, the elder wand is a powerful wand that feeds and sides with who's more powerful.
I think it would be interesting if, during or after their legendary duel, Dumbledore would make Grindelwald unable to use any kind of magic. That would better the changes of him not escaping Nurmengard. Also I think this option would be interesting, because I think that Grindelwald is powerful enough to use magic without a wand.
Yup. Dumbledore and Grindelwald are great nonverbal wizards, so there is a possibility that Dumbledore did something to make it impossible for Grindelwald to escape his self-made prison.
Impossible as a wizard can manifest their magic through almost anything. A wand is simply the best conduit to do so. More likely that Nurmengard was simply a prison of complex magic, magic that Grinelwald himself put in place to make the place inescapable. Suppressing magic, you have to remember, is what creates obscurials. I thik we can agree that given his love for him and that his sister became one, Dumbledore would never have done this to Grindelwald. Azkaban avoids this issue by suppressing not the magical ability but the hope from it's prisoners. Where as Azkaban is much more crude in the fact it uses fear to suppress a wizards magical abilities via the use of Dementors. I find it more likely that Grindelwald was simply successful in using exceptional magic in the creation of his prison.
I don't think he actually defeats Grindelwald. Well, not by himself. You can't beat an unbeatable wand, right? I think it's pretty clear to see that he's going to use Newt's animals to distract him. Or perhaps Dumbledore is the distraction. I even think that an obscuris may be used in the fight at some point, rendering it no longer a duel, but just that, a FIGHT! Making it now a beatable wand.
You actually can. History of the wand has shown that. Raw power doesn't translate to skill. It just creates an edge in an otherwise close fight/lets the user overpower most wizards/witches he would face.
@@richardgivher835 it's a combo of the books and Pottermore. If you do some digging on Google you can find sites/videos that assemble all of it for you.
@@redhunter8731 I thought I remember Super Carlin Brothers here on UA-cam going over the wand's ownership history, but I don't think it ever got beat. I'm not certain but wasn't it always stolen or it's owner killed in one way or another outside of a duel? Not actually in combat like the "Unbeatable Wand" title suggests?
Well I have a theory, Maybe the elder wand has a twin? That’s particularly why Dumbledore is able to defeat him, as why he didn’t use the wand before, I believed that it is because he used that wand in the duel that killed Ariana, and he is afraid that his speculations might come true if he was defeated, because when you defeat a wizard, the wand shows the people that it killed (example: Voldemort’s wand). So that’s my theory, idk if it’s right
@@OryanMcLean Well, the books repeatedly confirm that Voldemort's more powerful than any other dark wizard, including Grindelwald: 'Harry had somehow survived a curse from the greatest dark sorcerer of all time, Lord Voldemort, whose name most witches and wizards still feared to speak.' -Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. 'Harry had been a year old the night that Voldemort, the most powerful dark wizard for a century, a wizard who had been gaining power steadily for eleven years arrived at his house, and killed his father and mother.' -Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
@@OryanMcLean No I'm sorry that's what you are trying to do. Because you like Grindelwald more than Voldemort, you are choosing to ignore canon statements and facts to suit your own agenda. As stated on all the harry potter wiki`s that Grindelwald is second to Voldemort. Come to terms with it and accept it. you can not fight against cannon.
I think that Grindelwald, at a minimum, respected that he lost and was, in the end, able to see Dumbledore's side so it was generally understood that he wouldn't try to escape from Nurmengard, and that comparatively for the time he didn't deserve Azkaban
I know this is fiction we all love but I have 2 questions that rose from this video. 1. How did the elder wand shift it’s allegiance to grindelwald by stealing? 2. How did the blood pack stop them from fighting even though they had the three way duel?
It actually did y'all don't understand the elder wand grindelwald stole it against the will of gregorovich the latter tried to stop him but grindelwald fired a spell at him and jumped out of the window even in the tale of the brothers it says that the wand was stolen by antioch peverell and the thief killed him only for good measure not that he needed to so u see even taking it against its owner's will changes the allegiance
Hey everyone, thanks for watching! If you enjoy the videos please remember to like and subscribe.
What happened in their duel? Did the Elder Wand betray Grindelwald during his duel with Dumbledore? Or was he simply overpowered regardless?
It could be that the elderwand migth have more personality than the basic wands and choose Dumbledore

I Don't think he had that wand in that fight.

It really breaks my heart when knowing that Voldemort’s visit was the only day when Grindelwald woke up and found that he’s not alone💔
In current days, even life sentenced prisoners will be given chance to communicate with family by visiting or writing letters and also breathe fresh air.
He loved Dumbledore and protected him til the end…

He disarmed Gregorovitch. And that can't happen because Malfoy is weaker than Dumbledore. Voldemort undestood that the elder wand didn't obey him only in 20 hours. Grindelwald is more clever. He would understand it in a minute
The elder wand is a power hungry one. Its history is dark and bloody. Probably one of the reasons, yeah
But Dumbledore used the wand for good
Grindelwald Okay this is fair, maybe the wand recognized the blood bond the two shared and with this couldn’t deal a blow to dumbledore, if he turned this to his advantage and won the duel that would explain the switch of allegiance.
It'll be weird seeing another actor as Grindelwald. Johnny Depp nailed that role perfectly.

@@andreapaladini7279 I think he might be her son, there's no way he's their brother since their parents were long dead before he was born.
Ariana being an obscurial is no longer a theory, more of a fact. The latter part has already been discussed by many theorists as well
obscurial are not pass on they are created when a wizard or witch hates the magic within them or they had a traumatic event that cause them to hate their magics for example arian
Technically, Dumbledore could’ve just casted an Expelliarmus spell at Grindelwald and the elder wand would answer him, just like how the wand answered Draco after he disarmed Dumbledore
So there are chances that Albus used the elder wand to defeat Gellert
I believe Grindelwald ultimately surrendered to Dumbledore. Dumbledore had humility bc, though he was powerful, he wasn't 'the greatest'; Grindelwald found part of his humanity, proving that later by not betraying Dumbledore in his final moments. Mutual respect, understanding if not approval, love.
Askaban was the Wizzard prison for the ministry of magic in England. Grindelwald crimes never extended to their even tho he was defeated by Dumbledore he never committed crimes in England. (At least according to the original lore)
Exactly. I don't get why don't realise it immediately, do they think we send every sentenced dude to England or what?
I would guess, theres a gigantic duel. They both fight to a standstill, then Dumbledore uses his ability to communicate and inspire, to indeed, get Grendlewald to give up, rather than kill Albus. In otherwords, like always, my guess is that he uses kind yet stern love to defeat him.
Dumbledore was able to cast that fire in the cave of Voldemort even if after he drank the poisonous water.

Grindelwald didnt tell Voldy who had the wand and angered him, thus being killed
Dumbledore had a Berretta in his left hand as he had Grindewald watching the wand in his right hand like a true magician.
What if Grindevald predicted the outcome of their duel. He saw that he will kill Dumbledore. But he didn't want to because he still loved Albus. So he surrendered.

In my opinion between Voldemort and Grindelwald I'll go for Grindelwald if they duel
@@Lav8514 In my mind "wizad" is pronounced wizaaaaaaad. Can you verify the truth of that?
Why do you refer to them as friends tho, it was a romantic relationship.
PERiod, period
They really enjoyed playing with each other’s wands and duelling 👍

I feel like Grindewald after being defeated probably never attempted to escape, that, or this very prison was designed by himself to keep Dumbledore, a perfect prison that he cannot escape, not even himself. However seeing as how Voldemort had no problem getting in and out just like that, I lean towards the first theory.
I really want to see the battle between the two and their relationship throughout the years.
Such a shame we will never get to see that final fight
I have a question though, if he stole the wand rather than disarming the previous wand owner, how to Grindlewald become the owner?
I believe when the battle began Grinedelwald still believe the blood pact was intact and held back and as a result the elder wand turned on him and give dumbledore the opening needed to win.
Imagine if Dumbledore finished the fight with something like "Wingardium Leviosa"
No no no your going to take someone's eye out and your saying it wrong it's levIOsa not levioSAH

And Dumbledore fell in love whit Grindelwald. He even says we were closer than brothers
We have only seen the consequence of a bloodpact. But how does it really work? All we know is that the two Wizards that binded with it cannot fight or exchange spells. But exactly how? Does it nullify their spell when directed to each other? Does it create a shield between them?
It makes their spells bounce off each other which is why GrinderWald s spell bounced off to Dumbledore sister
He likely knew he was gonna die and that Voldemort was coming after him at some point. And when that moment came...he was going down with style..
that just shows how stupid Voldy is for not recognizing Grindelwald was in prison and didn't possess the wand.
How could the duel between Grindelwald, Dumbledore, and Aberforth have happened if the blood pact was in place? Was it created after out of guilt? Or is JK just creating more inconsistencies?
It was created perhaps after this duel which we still have'nt seen in the FB movies..Lets wait for it :)

@@edopronk1303 Or what if they can duel despite the blood pact, but similarly to liquid luck (potion that makes things automatically go your way), the blood pact always produces bad luck or tragedies that stick for the rule breakers entire life if broken, and when they dueled the blood pact caused Ariana’s death to occur?

i want to say this, all those things that u see in dumbledore vs voldemort duel in movies, it never happends in the books and in the books it was so epic
I always saw the blue fire at the end of Crimes of Grindelwald as similar magic to the age line Dumbledore cast in GOF:
A blue, firey circle, surrounding an object/person, which only lets through those who fit the criteria set by he caster.
(They were in love)
was the ONLY conclusion, since even before JK Rowling announced to the mostly clueless public that Dumbledore was gay

While I believe That Grindelwald is more powerful then You-know-who, he did hold back quite a lot. Gindelwald was more of a politician whereas Voldemort was just a very talented lunatic. If Grindelwald was as ruthless as Voldemort then he would have probable succeeded in his plan.

Grindelwald is my favourite wizard of all time.
I hope we could get Johnny back on Fantastic Beast 3, and he hope the two following sequels well be better than the second one :'3
As Weatherwax explains to her fellow-witches:
'No-one becomes like she is without building walls inside their head [...] I’ve just knocked them down. Every scream. Every plea. Every pang of guilt. Every twinge of conscience. All at once. There's a little trick to it.'
Dumbledore could still have used all the spectacular elemental spells to overcome Grindewald's army, and to stop Grindewald from killing him.
@@theb.i.gnotorious9127
Rita would only resort to outright lies if she didn't have a half-truth to lean on; and often the lies she peddles aren't her own (which is not meant to excuse her: when she peddles other people's lies, she does it for her convenience, and never bothers to check whether there's any truth to it).
Grindwald did not gi ti Azkaban, he went to nurmengard (a prison that he built to put away his oposers)
Maybe he’ll chuck Queenie in there and keep her hostage so she can read Credence’s mind lmao

I am so sad we'll never get to see the duel on-screen anymore...
@@komokosai So obviously Grindelwald was more powerful than he old wand maker so the wand chose Grindelwald as its new master.
Thanks a lot!!!!]
