The parallel of the duel being similar to when they were younger is actually really cool, but would've been more powerful had we actually seen the first one
Yes, only book readers like us knew it and hp films didn't really explain much of that 3 way fight..so many people didn't get how strong that scene was!
From my point of view this movie was kinda boring (although NOT saying the worst!). Honestly if they put parallel scenes from it would be million times more interesting for me. For example the line "always" kinda ment something in HP movies but now its like you want to see the corelation.
@@ondrejbednar5853 Good movie but contradicts A LOT of what was established in the og HP series. These are the two main questions IMO: 1. Why is the Supreme Mugwamp post so important in this series? In HP 5 (book) it was established that Dumbledore lost his position as Supreme Mugwamp after the whole Voldemort is Back situation. It was very that the post wasnt of any importance at all. If it was, how can the 'leader' of the wizarding community be threatened by someone like Doleres (a British Ministry staff) or even be a skl teacher? Why would? What even did Dumbledore as the Supreme Mugwamp? In this movie, the Supreme Mugwamp was portrayed as a celeb but how come Dumbledore wasn't portrayed in the same manner at all (when be was Supreme Mugwamp). Anw, the point is, it wasnt important then, how is it important now? 2. The whole mirror dimension in the Credence fight.. and also the fight with Grindelwald (if the mirror dimensioms were the same). If these sorta different dimensions where nobody sees the duels exist, it completely changes the whole combat aspect of duels in the wizarding world. For the Fantastic Beasts series and in terms of cinematics, the movie was great but as a Potterhead, probably not. Would be great MovieFlame or Rowling herself can answer some of these questions in the future. Would rly love to hear what you potterheads think as well.
@@tigeryt637 Is it possible that the office was reformed after the battle of Dumbledore and Grindelwald, losing much of its power and importance and becoming just a ceremonial position?
I will say I was expecting the Kilin to bow to Jacob in Butan, after his scene earlier going to help Lally, his interaction with the Kilin at dinner and to underline how wrong Grindlewald was when he had just said Muggles were the lesser blood.
It was so weird we didn’t see thesus grieve about leta at all. All the human and relatable emotions were barely explored. What I loved about the Hp books is that yes it’s a magical world but it focuses on human things we all experience. Family loss, bullying and friendship. Here they had those themes but they were no where near explored
I think that might be because of the time gap. The second movie took place in 1927, and according to the synopsis, this one took place in 1932. Theseus did grieve, just not on-screen. (That being said, a flashback would've been nice.)
Tbh I just want him to find love again. Leta wasn’t really dedicated to him. I know it’s awful she passed but she eventually didn’t choose him. He deserves better, and I hope it’s Eulalie tbh.
Maybe it's just me but not long after Dumbledore walking off in the last scene; Dumbledore's line " you're never alone as long as you have friends" Not said but IMHO is when he realizes that.
Grind must have been able to really lay down the lap ham in his youth. Dumb can't get over him.. even though grind had literally murdered little children..
Things I didn’t like: 1) Tina getting sidelined 2) The revelation of Credence/Aurelius being Aberforth’s son happening in casual conversation 3) Confirmation of Ariana being an obscurial in the same casual conversation 4) Breaking the blood pact so easily, almost accidentally 5) The chilling bowing to Dumbledore didn’t make sense, Dumbledore himself has admitted his fatal mistakes and flaws. Bowing to Newt, or even Jacob, would’ve been more suitable 6) Yusuf Kama is kinda just there. Actually, without Leta Lestrange I don’t think he has much to add to the plot.
Agreed. I also don't really like how Dumbledore talk abt love with Grindelwald. It was too plain and given their complicated relationship, I was expecting something more delicate and elaborate. Also, it is unlike Dumbledore to speak of something such as love in such plain language. Likewise, impt details such credence being Aberforth son being told through dialogue and exposition could definitely have been done better with the screenwriting.
Agree with all your points except 4. The Blood pact was extremely hard for Dumbledore to break as evidenced by his attempts to defy it. It only started cracking or the magic unraveling when both of their intents collided magically in spells used for/against Credence. It’s because Dumbledore has finally sided with family over his only lover. He has the full intent to stop Grindelwald and has overcome his past. The past will continue to haunt him but like he said it’s fate because he’s committed to a sense of duty and greater love for other wizards and muggles. The reason the qillin bows to him despite his flaws and past mistakes is because this is an Albus Dumbledore who has cast aside ego in favor of helping others. This is the same Dumbledore who gives his life later to save Draco and works with Snape and others to stop Voldemort through one thing Tom never had - selfless love.
“Show don’t tell” They broke the most important rule! I wanted to see the day Ariana died not just see Dumbledore telling the story. I wanted to see how him and grindelwald fell in love. Not to just be told they were in love. Show us!!!!
My exact same thoughts - so many times they told instead of showing making everything that much more unsatisfying and anticlimactic. And often told with no build up or crescendo
My theory is that the fourth movie will be the Halfbloodprince of this franchise. Meaning we will learn more about Grindelwalds past, his rise to a leader, his past with Dumbledore and his time in Durmstrang. And as a secondary plotline we could perhaps witness the first opening of the Chamber of Secrets and a young Tom Riddle making contacts in Hogwarts and planning to become a wizarding leader like Grindelwald. And maybe we will see the early affects of World War Two on the Wizarding World.
@@andrea.marquez dude it's mostly clickbait. The general audience doesn't care that much about the actor changing of Grindelwald, Miller's character is dead so his bad press won't be a problem for the rest of the movies and we have to wait and see how the box office will turn out. In America the movie started a few days ago, but in Germany it's been out for a week and is the highest grossing movie in 2022.
@@andrea.marquez I felt the opposite...mads was too bland, just like any other movie villain. Doesn't stand out like depp . However he has better chemistry with Jude law
Throughout this movie Albus and Aberforth seem pretty close, which is a far-cry from their relationship decades later when they weren't even on speaking terms. In fact it seems like at this point Albus regularly goes to see Aberforth at his home and at the Hog's Head, despite the fact that we are lead to believe he still holds a grudge over Albus for what happened to Arianna. My guess is what will actually strain Albus's relationship with Aberforth has something to do with Credence. Now that Aberforth has his son back, he will undoubtedly want to do everything he can to save his life and to protect him. So my theory is that in the next movie, Gellert has some way to save Credence from dying from the obscurial. He offer Albus to cure Credence if he agrees to join his side. Albus of course refuses, but Aberforth desperate to save his son pleads with Albus to reconsider, and while Albus maybe tempted, he ultimately cannot bring himself to become compromised. So instead Credence dies, and a grief stricken Alberforth goes back to hating his older brother and holding him responsible for everyone they love meeting a tragic end, thus the Dumbledore brothers relationship becomes strained and remains that way for decades.
Huh. Now that you're pointed out, you're right. A. and D. seems to be on good terms for now, but in future we know that they're not. So.. I think you could be right about Credence. 👍👍
Dude, they were on good terms during the hp saga, Aberforth was part of the Order of the Phoenix. And I don't think we'll see Credence again, there's just too much drama with the actress Ezra Miller
Aberforth and Albus were working together during the Harry Potter books though and Aberforth definitely still holds a grudge against Albus. You can tell during that dinner scene.
can't wait for your explanation on the battle between albus and credence. this movie was so confusing in so many ways so I want to see some discussions and breaksowns before my second viewing.
@@SMDC2000 probably cause this idea just plopped up before filming the movie. I am also very confused about what and how it happened and the whole scene just reminds me of Doctor Strange and the whole multiverse thing. When filming Harry Potter years ago, nobody thought of this and they just used this idea now even though it is completely confusing and doesn‘t make sense with the storyline of Harry defeating/ fighting Voldemort.
Probably a spell by Dumbledore that fakes reality , like a very strong concealment charm which fakes everything around , he does do some hanky panky to the mirror in the shop . What I don't understand is the duel with Grindelwald , why did that happen in mirror verse when no one actually cast any spell n yet no one but Albus n Grindy seemed to be able to see the duel as they fought
I feel like Newt, Jacob, and the gangs story has concluded on a satisfying ending. I’d love to see one more film with Dumbledore going after Grindelwald for a final confrontation.
I think Queenie and Jacob's relationship was very rushed, they didn't see each other for several years, then are reunited at the restaurant where they see each other for one scene and don't even talk, then they meet once in the finale and don't even get along that well, and after that everything goes back to the first movie and they get married in the next scene
I really liked this, so I hope we get more movies. From where we left of at the end of this movie I would be fine with just 1 more movie, but the problem is that this movie takes place in the early 1930s and the famous duel between Grindelwald and Dumbledore is in 1945.
There story didn't really get wrapped up tho this was kinda just a filler movie with the set up for the last 2 with the breaking of the blood pack and the only other question that was truly answered was who is barboon
I want to say that Madd Mikkelson did a wonderful job playing the role of Grindelwald. Now with that out of the way, by the way the movie started with both Grindelwald and Dumbledore you can foresee that it would end with them both. That dimension scene was a moment for them to reflect on who they are now versus when they were young. This was Dumbledore way of letting it go based on what Newt said to him earlier before the duel. I honestly feel that no matter what they still love each. It was unfortunate that it took till the end of the movie for Dumbledore to get over Grindelwald.
everything happens for a reason. this madd dude was a good grindelwald. it was SO CORNY when they revealed depp as grindelwald in the last movie... sorry he's played out and had too many major roles'tonbe attached to a large universe like harry potter. he was cheesy as well. ironically i loved the original dumbledore in harry potter over the recast but it's not their fault the first dude died in that instance..
@@strwbrybabyg245 Have to disagree. Depps portrayal has charisma. Something I found seriously lacking with Madds. Grindlewald inspired followers and won the heart of Dumbledore. Dude NEEDS to be very charismatic. Not just imposing as Madds played him.
While this ending was alright, I would've actually preferred it if Grindelwald had won this time round, remaining as Supreme Mugwump, but having Newt's speech about the dead Qilin cause the general population to doubt Grindelwald's legitimacy, whilst also having Dumbledore's followers doubt his ability to defeat Grindelwald. The idea of having doubtful and disloyal followers on both sides could've made for an interesting topic to cover in the next movie, but alas, it was never meant to be...
@@suburbancarwash209 i think whether the next film is happening or not depends on the box office and the ratings of the film the rotten tomatoes audience score is aready out and its pretty high
Regardless of who the Qillin chose, they need to explain why the Supreme Mugump post is so important all of a sudden as well. In the book (HP 5), they mentioned that Dumbledore was the Supreme Mugwump untill he lost the post after the Voldemort is Back situation. But didnt rly mention anything Dumbledore did as the Supreme Mugwump. In fact, it wasn't even portrayed as of much importance at all. How come Dumbledore had no control over the Doleres situation as a Supreme Mugwump for example. Or how would Fudge even think that the Supreme Mugwomp would want to steal his position as the Minister of Magic which is far inferior to the Supreme Mugwump. If Dumbledore was the most powerful (by rank as the Supreme Mugwump) in the world, how come he had to obey all sorts of commands by the Ministry of Magic UK and werent even like a celebrity like Supreme Mugwumps are portrayed in this movie (FB 3). This rly need to be explained.
I understand you guys but it wasn't even mentioned other than that incident in the book for HP5. Not even once in the movies at all. Especially if it is such an honor in the wizarding world, for a position with so much power and publicity, it really doesnt make sense that nobody even mentioned him as such. I know they had to modify the plot and twist and turn their stories for the FB series but come on. If my professor was the Supreme Mugwump, I think I would at least call him by that title or at least mention about it/hear others mention about it more than once over a decade. Even on the Chocolate frog cards or the Daily Prophet article on Dumbledore did not mention about him being/having been the Supreme Mugwump once.
When I heard the news that it was Mads who would play the new Grindelwald, I immediately said, "You can condemn him, this movie, but damn it, look at him in action! ". This person can play with only his eyes. He's incredible.
I feel like when Newt says that he will do it again is not only a line for the character in the movie, but it’s a nod for Redmayne to continue in the magic of this role along with a nod for the audience’s desire to see more adventures after this film. I think the general audience, myself included, is here to see and support more wizarding world adventures so long as the material isn’t a complete dump truck fire

Buying as many merchandise directly related to it as possible will also truly help. Also remember that if you’re refusing to see it because of #JohnnyDeppIsMyGrindelwald Then please remember that this movie needs to do well so as to give Johnny the chance to actually come back in the Later movies, For the actor who played MacNair The executioner was re-casted for prisoner of Azkaban and then came back for order of the Phoenix. The bottom line is that if #FantasticBeastsTheSecretsOfDumbledore Doesn’t do well, And they don’t make the remaining two movies, then Johnny definitely will never be back as Grindelwald!Plus you also have to remember that it’s about to be a new company with new people over seeing it, So as such you were technically not paying that company and are actually giving more of a chance than not having him actually return. Especially depending on what may happen with the results of his trial that’s going to be happening shortly after the movie comes out, the new people taking over Warner Bros. right before it comes out…… Also remember in regards to her that she doesn’t necessarily get a whole lot of money from this, as well the fact remains that as many people have pointed out that she already has so much money that not supporting the series will not really change any kind of “power“ that you may have against her, and after all the series should not suffer at all because of her for Regardless of what you may think, nothing I repeat nothing will ever ever truly take away what a series overall truly means to you let alone other people, And again it’s not The series that’s the problem at all in any kind of way :-) Also keep in mind that even though it’s not the best example they have at least one transgender person or someone who identifies themselves as “They” in the cast so much for her transphobia……

Personally, i think it would have been super cool if the Qilin bowed to Kowalski and he was elected. Would have most definitely created a huge rift in the wizarding world, setting the stage for a huge war. On one hand, he is pure of heart and possibly the right leader, on the other hand, he is a muggle. Would have turned the two sides into extremes and given grindlewald an even larger base of supporters.
@@reanalysaa6430 I mean, it could have been a great way to have him grow more as a character. Become a leader and grow a spine, but meanwhile, his ineptness stemming from his unknowning of the wizarding world could be great in not only making him doubt himself, which would serve as a backdrop to great character development, but also, a more or less failed Kowalski Cabinet could even further divide the Wizarding world, even turning Grindlewalds most moderate followers into extremist. But that's just wishful thinking, lol.

@@buihelgason I agree, it would have made for an interesting plot arc and he as leader could have grown into the role with tutoring from Dumbledore and Newt, kind of like how Dumbledore coached Harry.
I really like that Grindelwald is such a complex villain, and that there's something very human about him. Voldemort just seemed straight-up evil, which is fun on screen, but he lacked the depth and intrigue of Grindelwald.
The part where it mirrors Grindelwald, Aberforth and Dumbledore's battle would've been much more impactful if the film had a flashback scene on when him, Aberforth and Grindelwald fought that lead to Ariana's death.
Movieflame you are honestly so awesome. You explain things soooo well and the amount of time and effort you put into ur videos is fantastic. Will always love ur work!😀😀
CORRECTION at 3:36. Dumbledore didn't reply that he was all alone. It was Grindelwald who said that line following his initial question, "Who will love you now, Dumbledore?" This is important because Dumbledore would rather choose to be alone than join forces with a murderer just to have a boyfriend. Dumbledore has solid morals, and this is why the Qilin bowed to him.
Agreed, although I think you significantly reduce the importance of their love. It wasn't just about "having a boyfriend." Dumbledore loved Grindelwald, maybe even till that moment. But he decided to put aside his personal feelings for the greater good. Ultimately, he achieved the goal that he had set for himself in his teens, just in a different way than Grindelwald wanted to.
Whoa I didn't think this much of the end part while watching the film! Don't get me wrong, I'm a potter head and understood everything but when you explained how Dumbledore was all alone, that part now has so much depth for me now..nicely explained
The ending, the last scene of the movie, is one of the best endings I have ever seen And it's actually just Dumbledore walking down a street in New York... This aura, this presence, this power that Jude Law radiates in this moment Dumbledore in Fantastic Beasts 3 is just outstanding
Hi, just a question, in case you know the answer. Why didn’t Dumbledore enter the bakery? It seems like it’s his choice to be alone. Im not sure though, it just seems that way to me!
@@karlalee1245 An exact answer to this question I think only JK himself will know, but I can speculate Especially the last scenes of the movie portray Albus as a man broken in love Grindelwald has clearly hurt him more with his words than a clear separation would have been, you can see that also shortly after, when he doesn't go to his brother and his nephew to help, but he averts the help-seeking gaze of Aberforth So he also keeps away from the other guests, because he is distanced, because he wants to distance himself from love and maybe that will be the problem for the fourth movie as well It also doesn't seem to me quite in keeping with the character of Albus from the later years, but perhaps he still needs to rediscover that to complete his character arc, towards the Dumbledore of the Harry Potter books
@@max_kirchi_fca amazing analysis! I didnt even notice those details you mentioned! Thank you so much for the detailed and thoughtful response! I appreciate it! 😊
That's the scene I actually believe he realizes he isn't alone. He's got friends and family who do love him. I also think that's what he's remembering when he tells Harry " you're never alone when you have friends"
On one level of identifying an abuser, of course Grindelwald checks off some major marks, the most obvious being he says whatever people want to hear to gain their trust. That said, I particularly found it triggering when he asked Dumbledore, "who will love you now??" which is a common tactic they use. It's like a personal attack/insult as a last resort to keep their "victim" down and "in their place" to sum it up. When a manipulative person loses their power, watch them spiral with weak jabs. Happens all the time.
It seemed to me that it was rather not "Who will love you now?" but "Who will love me now?". He projected his feelings, his fear of losing the one and only person who truly loves him, onto Dumbledore. Breaking the blood pact meant for both of them that they were no longer bound by anything. And obviously, for Grindelwald, this is something that hurts him. Jeez, he didn't even really try to kill Dumbledore, they used mostly Expeliarmus and Stupefy. And their last spells, which they directed at each other when they touched each other's hearts, were the harmless Expeliarmus. When Dumbledore turned away from him, leaving him again, he felt resentment, pain, fear that no one else would love him, that he would be all alone. If it was Johnny Depp's Grindelwald, I'd say that it was definitely manipulation. But Mads' Grindelwald seems capable of love, and in his words to Dumbledore I did not hear mockery
forget dumbledore and grindelwald. we want a "the wizard in the hopping pop, babbity rabbity, and the cackling stump" spin-off series. The spin-offs we all deserve.
One of the things that I noticed in this movie is that they're in Germany when they're talking about the whole International Confederation of Wizards election. And if I remember correctly from History, it was also around this time that Germany was undergoing massive radical changes as I assume that this takes place in the 1930s. Would've been interesting to see that.
Well from what I understand, the next series events regarding Grindelwald roughly coincides with World War 2 in the Muggle World. I would imagine an event of the same scale happened in the Wizarding world at the same time.
@@thebegleyshow3320 It’s honestly interesting when you think about it. Especially in history with Germany being the Weimar Republic and had to suffered a weak government and a lot of elections were called and government changes almost happening every few years with a new Chancellor up until 1933 when Hitler was appointed with him manipulating his supporters as being a great elegant speaker by his supporters winning his party seats and a majority. Which was what we basically saw in this movie with them having an election for the International Confederation of Wizards. And saw Grindelwald be more manipulative to his supporters, and gaining new ones which we saw in a few scenes with the rallies. And as well saw Anton Vogel brushing off any warnings of him growing to power, and believing he couldn’t win and literally allowing Grindelwald off of all charges for his crimes. Which was similar to basically Von Hindenburg and other government officials in the Reichstag brushing off warnings and just thinking they can use him by keeping him in a weaker position of power with him being chancellor which we all know would backfired. Again kind of interesting on how closely this resembles Germany in the early 1930’s which the third film is set in, and honestly what would be happening if the fourth film mentions those events as we are leading up to World War II and the final battle with Dumbledore and Grindelwald at the end of the war in 1945 which would be obviously happening fifth and final film. Sorry if this was long.
I was curious if we got to see Voldemort as a child or young teenager unless I got the timeline wrong but I think it would have been awesome to see say chamber of secrets from their perspective in this movie (I haven’t seen the movie )
Tom Riddle opened the chamber 2 years before Dumbledore's final defeat of Grindelwald, so there's a chance we see him at Hogwarts. It would also be nice if we get to see Newt give an unhatched Aragog to young Hagrid.
If the movie series goes by what is on Pottermore then the earliest we would see any sign of Voldemort at Hogwarts is in the following movies (if there are any.) We KNOW Tom Riddle didn't start Hogwarts until 1938 and that he graduated in the beginning of 1945. Secrets of Dumbledore takes place in 1932-1933 meaning that Voldemort wasn't at Hogwarts at this time. However considering they have McGonagall teaching at Hogwarts before she was even born (she started teaching supposedly in 1956 when she was /21 yrs old/) according to Pottermore? For all we know one of the little Slytherin boys who gave Jacob cockroach clusters was supposed to be the then Tom Riddle. Before anyone says "It could be her ancestor though!" In regards to the McGonagall bit. First off in Secrets of Dumbledore he talks to her at the door of the Hog's Head and CALLS HER MINERVA. Secondly she is a half blood who's father is a MUGGLE. Thus, before her mother (by marriage) and her siblings there were no McGonagalls in the wizarding world! Also her mother was named Isobel NOT Minerva and didn't tell Minerva's father about being a witch until AFTER Minerva was born. She was of course born in 1935 which is 2-3 years AFTER the events of this Secrets of Dumbledore!) She is purely fan service. Which means they could make Tom Riddle start school just a few years earlier for pure fan service too if they wanted.
I personally thought that the fight between Dumbledore and Grindelwald was meant to be metaphorical since there was no physical harm done (only emotionally by breaking the bond). They were in a moral conflict since Albus meant to protect and Gellert to kill. The were too in a emotional conflict ofc, that's why they touched hearts which then resulted in the bond breaking.
Now I'm in love with the franchise even more it explains Everything about Dumbledore about Grindelwald their relationship rivalry Dumbledore's past it's just perfect
I cannot wait to see the big duel between Albus and Gellet. It was mentioned in the Harry Potter books and was known as the greatest duel of all time. Harry and Voldemorts final duel is not overly great to watch since Voldemort lost his horcruxes so he was weakened. They basically just pointed their wands at each other and that was it. I am hoping the one between Albus and Gellert is more like Albus' and Voldemort's duel in the fifth movie ( order of the Phoenix) with different CGI spells like the dragon or large ball instead of two single streams just pointed at each other.

Yup the wizarding movies haven't been able to recreate that fight since Order of Phoenix. I don't even know how harry won. If voldemort used those spells harry would have a hard time.
Did anyone else think that the giant monster in the lake of hogwarts could have grown from the piece that came with Theseus from the prison i mean the books said it was a calamari but no one actually ever saw the full of it
This is so far my favorite Fantastic Beasts movie, better than the previous 2 movies. Mads Mikkelsen should have been Grindelwald, since the beginning. He just fit that role perfectly. Jude and Mads had more chemistry onscreen, I can see them being together and having to fight the love they feel for each other because of their differing beliefs. I wish people just stop overthinking, this is just a movie. Enjoy it for what it is, we deserve it.
I really think based on this ending that Rita Skeeter recall of the 'famous duel' which end with gilert putting a white flag at the end of his wand and surrendered, is more of the truth then the 3 hour one that was originally thought. The fact that ginderwall says at the end, I am not your enemy then and now, really tells me unfortunately Rita might have been right.
If you actually watched and listened carefully to the show in cinema - in this scene grindelwald is declaring war. "I was not your enemy then, but NOW..." that implies once apon a time he wasn't an enemy, now that they frustrated his plans-he is declaring war
SPOILER WARNING: The problems I had with this movie was it sort of broke rules set up by the previous films. Why would Creedance need to be hidden if he wasn't half muggle and if his mother was muggle wouldn't he share Albus's views at the time? Another thing I don't like is how the "Give Jacob a Wand" thing was never fully explained and they did this for what? Now they contradict everything about muggles and magic just to say that Jacob's wand is "quite rare" so there wont be too much of an issue (it reminds me of a Harry Potter story I wrote when I was 7) For the one or two scenes he actually uses it in? I feel like the "internal" duals sort of don't give any real world consequences which sucks. Theisis or Newt despite being torn apart with pain after losing Leta in the last movie do not mention her once, no... NOT ONCE. Grindelwald later obliviates her brother's memory to take Zoe Kravitz out of the universe pretty much entirely (even more of an acting carousel). I also had a problem with how Hogwarts looked in the film, everything looked so CGI'd compared to what we are used to. Speaking of an acting carousel Tina's character is never explained why she isn't there besides "she's busy" I thought they would at least make Tina have taken polyjuice potion and be Bunty but it brought me out of it solely because I knew it had to be due to actor schedluing conflicts or some real world problems which on top of the many actors that they've already had problems like this hapopen to it seems like they've gotten another. This movie was better than Crimes of Grindelwald and my favorite Fantastic Beasts movie for the cinematics and what they actually showed of the wizarding world this movie it just seems like this series was "hijacked" by Dumbledore and this Grindelwald subplot. I think J.K. in the writers didn't know what to do with a sole Newt storyline for a trilogy and had to throw these guys in. Stil worth a good watch for any potter fan just don't get your hopes too high. If you go in wanting to watch possibly the best film in the Fantastic Beasts trilogy than your expectations are right on the money but if you are going into it with the expectations of the original franchise prepare to be dissapointed. Give the muggle a wand so he can use it in one scene where he doesn't actually use it but Lanny (who is a great character add on, loved her in this film) is doing all of the work anyway... you can tell this movie suffered from the amount of rewrites they did on the script. It was leaked there was supposed to be a young Ariana Dumbledore flashback that we were completely robbed of. They need new writers going forward, besides Hogwarts castle (the damn best part) the cinematography was PERFECT in this movie, the cinematograohy in this movie rivals any Harry Potter movie made but cinemtaography & great actors alone cannot help bad writing, a MESS of canon plot holes and the real life actor conflicts with this movie. Was it a good Fantastic Beasts movie? Yes (minus the horrid rewrites) Was it a good Harry Potter/Wizarding World movie? Hell no
That pretty much sums up my opinion. However, it does make sense that Jacob never actually uses his wand because at the end of the day he’s still a muggle, and a wand just channels the magic you already have. Jacob, apart from being the sweetest guy ever, doesn’t have a drop of magical blood in him.
@@awsomeness8664 I agree with what you are saying! I guess the point I’d ask is if it was for maybe 1 spell? (I watched it yesterday so he may have used it twice but I believe it was once) why even give him the wand? The rewrite I feel screwed this movie over but I liked the visuals this movie had.
So in terms of giving Jacob a wand, it was all apart of the counter sight. It was set to confuse Grindewald since he was seeing into the future. Everything was confusing but it was meant to be. The wand itself had no real value, since it had no core.
I loved the fight scenes in this movie, the way they moved as they were fighting, the way they didn't just rely on their wands to block they would dodge get close to make it harder for the opponent to cast a spell and then dodging around. Much better then just sitting around holding their wands or running away while occasionally firing a shot behind them.
I’m really hoping you’re right about it being that Dumbledore was protecting family and that’s why it broke, bc if it didn’t need to be Credence, then imo it really hurts the importance of his character
this review video is the best i’ve come cross on youtube and i was myself thinking of the duel in parallel how now this time a dumbledore’s saved versus killed, which in some senses should bring redemption to albus and aberforth. the ending scene was heartbreaking how albus was close to happiness yet consumed in dark loneliness as he walked into the black nights, which corresponded to him telling grindelwald how he’s all alone after the duel. you’ve earned yourself a new follower sir!
Dumbledore doesn’t want it now, but during the HP timeline he is the Supreme Mugwump. So I think he eventually realizes that he is good, and is the right person for the job.
I can’t wait for your breakdown of the film! I personally loved this one so much more than the COG. They really almost lost me with that film but they got me back with this new one. And I am actually excited now to see where this one will go next. And I think the new guy (who’s name I can never remember) did a great job with Grindelwald and I personally liked his version of the character better than the lunatic Johnny Depp was protraying Grindelwald to be . BTW I love Johnny Depp and think he was wrongfully fired, but I also thought he was the wrong choice for the role
How does Aberforth communicate with Credence through the mirrors? Is it a two way mirror? If so, how didn’t Grindelwald know there was a two-way mirror at his castle
Just watched the movie. On the good side this installment has really good storytelling and camera shots. However, the plot is less surprising and the characters seems to be less complex than the previous film, which is the most evident with Grindelwald. The last movie shaped him as a clever villain with some good wills, but this time he is more dumb and people who trusted him fell apart.
Wow. I think you are right! I didn't understand when I watched the film why blood pact pendant suddenly broke, but with yours explaining I get it now. Blood pact was between Albus and Grindelwald to never fight/kill/harm each other. But Grindelwald cast a killing spell at Credence, who are half Dumbledore and Albus cast a protection spell against Grindelwald'sGrindelwald's at the same time.
Spoiler Free Review - I have been a long time Harry Potter fan..💯 And as recently I have completed the book series, I fell in love with this to franchise even more, with that being said.. This 3rd installment of the Harry Potter spin off Prequel series Fantastic Beasts The Secrets Of Dumbledore was just a blast.. 💎💎It brought back the magic that made our hearts jump and it has all those nostalgia that true Potterheads recognize.. It's Truely an amazing piece of art and I definitely highly recommend all Potterheads to go to the theater and experience it there! ✅⚡ This movie deserves to hit Every actor did an amazing job and they worked hard for this film! Kindly respect that as well ✨ PS - Make sure to re-watch the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts 1 and 2 and learn the background of Dumbledore's story to understand this movie in a better way! #SecretsOfDumbledore #wizardingworld #wizard #wizardingworldofharrypotter
Agreed secrets of dumbledore is awesome and has unpacked alot of the questions and mysteries. I guess the unfortunate thing got to do really with covid and recast and stuff that happened outside the movie which affected the movie. The first fantastic beast was fine as an intro, the last one was kinda of avg. It could be so much better if the time between movies were not so long and movie goers can then connect the things better.
Considering the film feels like a solid ending for the Fantastic Beasts characters (Dumbledore can fight Grindlewald now so doesn't need them as much, and they seem pretty happy at the end), I feel this is the perfect time to do what they should have done from the beginning: Rename the next film to ALBUS DUMBLEDORE and the something something something. I feel Dumbledore's story is the main crutch of the story and the most compelling part of these past two films. The Fantastic Beasts aspect felt forced past the first one. So now, with it ending on a shot of Dumbledore, and the pact is broken, JUST MAKE THE FOURTH FILM HIS FILM! That's my opinion ofc. Fantastic Beasts characters can cameo, but Dumbledore's story is what we wanna see.
In “Deathly Hallows” it was heavily implied, that Grindelwald surrendered to Dumbledore and they never actually dueled. Meaning, it was probably a rumor spread by Newt, to cover up what really happened.
Excellent. But how can we be sure about the alternate dimension when it so closely resembles the alternate dimension shown at the beginning and in the middle of the film too? We're those both also created by the blood pact?
Is Dumbledore who replies "I am all alone"? I've seen the movie twice already, in Spanish, and I feel sure that at least in the Spanish dub is Gellert the one who says "Who would love you know Dumbledore? You're all alone"...
Only complaint i have is that dumbledore doesn't need to be so emo. Just because you lost your boyfriend, doesn't mean it's cool to sit in the dark, brooding across the road from a wedding all your best friends are at.
I watched the movie yesterday and it was so good! We went to a 4d z I think it’s called…. It moved and sprayed water! I love the Quiilin and it was so funny when Newt was with the scorpion like beasts in the cave
It was such a beautiful movie! When Aurelius/Credence asks his father whether he ever thought of him, I intuitively thought he would say, "Always " And when Aberforth did say just that, I was beside myself with joy! One little word, but J.K. Rowling invested it with so much weight!
If Albus got his 'redemption' by saving Credence, I wonder why he still feels guilty about Ariana's death in the HP timeline. But maybe regret and guilt stays for a long time and doesn't go away easily. 😓
It's pretty realistic. Lots of stories depicts "redemption" as a sort of silver bullet that can free you of any guilt or regret. But that's not how things work in the real world. You might redeem yourself but those feelings aren't gonna disappear just like that.
@@1idd0kun I still feel guilt and regret over something I did 61 years ago. I don't dwell on it but occasionally the memory pops up in quiet moments. Such is life.
Well, I think it can be quite realistic, regret is one of those things that just sticks sometimes, so, even if you do something, or multiple things proving you are a better person than you were when you done what you regret, you can still regret doing it and feel bad about it
I think the blood pact breaking works because they didnt specifically move against each other, the target of their spells were Creedence, one to kill him and the other to protect him. The blood pact didn't stop them because they didnt attack each other, but since their spells met it made the pact null and void. This really makes me wonder how the 3 way duel between the Dumbledores and Grindlewald went, because the only way for Albus to have been involved at all is for him to have been protecting Aberforth without his spells connecting to Grindlewalds, or he was fighting against Aberforth, which doesn't make much sense to me. The only way I could see this making sense is Aberforth was attacking Albus and Grindlewald, Grindlewald was attacking Aberforth, and Albus was moving Aberforth out of the way of Grindlewald's attacks
Over all i enjoyed it, it explained alot.. im wondering what come next for the next movie?! Are the characters gonna be part of the next plot to come… all we know dumbledore mission is to stop gellert, and gellert is obviously gonna lose alot of his followers due to the fact he failed to become the leader of the wizard world
The love sacrifice needs to be a real sacrifice not because of the person dying but the person needs to die without presenting resistance. Once people asked JK why James sacrifice didn’t work to save lily since he died trying to protect her and Harry and she said it was because James fought Voldemort. Lily didn’t try to fight him, she just stood in front of her son refusing to give him up and her defenseless act of protection is what saved Harry.
I just felt like there were a lot of things "missing", like, they completely wasted Credence's character development, they hypped him up so much in the first and second film, and just threw him in the bin in the last. And the story between Ariana's death and all was just a memory telling. And the final battle scene, legit just reused the final battle scene from Harry and Tom and changed the spell colour... Honestly quite underwhelming...
When I first saw young Dumbledore and Nicolas Flammel in the second movie, I was like: yes! Please let the other 3 movies be in this order: 3rd movie - okay, Grindelwald and Dumbledore battle (half a movie, then after some years introducing young Tom Riddle, born 1926, maybe him getting to the orphanage..), 4rd movie, also maybe after some years later: Marauders and their forming, young Severus Snape, also some Voldemort story (Nagini romance..).. and the 5th one: sloooooowly getting to the point where Voldy opens the door and kills Lily (end of the movie...) ... that would be so wonderful... I think, even though we all know the history, that everyone would LOVE to watch it in movies.. and there are so many Fantastic Beasts in HP universe that there could be even more about them in this pre-HP times.. oh well.. such a great potentional.. so, I don't think the other two movies (there should be 5, is that right?) will even get close to the Marauders time... a pity! Also: where was Nagini??? Why Credence didn't get the story he deserved? And Ariana? I would really love the theory of Ariana's obscurus attaching to Credence, making him therefore a Dumbledore.. I also guessed him to be Albus' brother - Ariana, Albus, Aberforth, Aurelius.. AAAA.. Aurelius being Aberforth's son - well okay, bud badly done... :( Nothing really happened in the movie.. who cares about elections? Politics? Why there wasn't someone like Nicolas Flammel in the second movie? Like.. I don't know, grand/parents of the Marauders.. Anyway... it's not a HP movie... so... enjoyable, but oh well...
I think that they made the pact before the fight that killed Leanna and I think the loophole that Dumbledore used was that he wasn't necessarily moving against Grindelwald. His motivation was to save Credence not to stop Grindelwald which I think is what allowed him to make that move. Also they explain in the movie that they could break the pact at anytime so it wasn't that a rule had to be broken but that Dumbledore needed to fulfill whatever the requirements for breaking it were without Grindelwald realizing until it was too late. Maybe dumbledore using the loophole threw off Grindelwald and he just attacked Dumbledore automatically and the requirements for it breaking were that they both had to mutually attack eachother agian or something idk
3:42 I know I'm late to the party (2 years late in fact) but I don't think the blood pact itself was enough to trigger the construction of this mirror dimension and its consequent destruction. Let's not forget that they are in one of the most magically infused places in the world, the magic in the air might have empowered the blood pact and together with some random unknown magical power, created and ended this dimension. It also makes me think that's why their spells looked so powerful. Yes, both of them have incredibly powerful wands but again, the location where they find themselves in heavily infused with magic that is incredibly ancient and powerful.
Stuff relating to the pact is difficult to adress, because it breaks the lore. Because if they made it before the 3 way fight, then the 3 way fight couldn't have happened, since Albus and Gellert wouldn't have been able to fight each other. And if they made it after the duel, it contradicts what we know again, because it is said that after the duel, Grindelwald left never to return, and also it doesn't make sense for them to make that pact after fighting, because why would they want to see each other after that. It makes sense to make that pact when they are allies, not when they are enemies Anyway, i have three questions. So the pact broke because one wanted to kill and the other to protect? How does that relate to the pact not letting them fight one another? Maybe it's really obvious, but it was confusing for me. How did Albus and Aberforth managed to stop Avada Kedavra without weird relationships between the wands? And why the false chillin, wich is surely an inferi, dies at the end? Because Grindelwald releases the control over him, because the spell fails? If it was under Grindelwald control, why release it, it will expose you even more. And if he died without Grindelwald whising it, why all the plot with the other chillin even exists? Because if the false chillin died, all the people there would know that Grindelwald was a fraud and was manipulating the voting anyway
The movies do not make any sense at all. None of it. I wish JK had written books instead. The movies are now canon, but none of them make ANY sense, right from the first one.
"In the original series we were told" clearly means nothing anymore. There are too many things that break book canon in these movies. We were told BY DUMBLEDORE at King's cross that they never met again from Ariana's death until the duel in 1945. There is also the McGonagall fact, she shouldn't even be born yet. Also we are clearly told that the killing curse can't be blocked and we always see that very thing throughout the book series, it either misses you or you die, no one ever blocks it with another spell or curse or whatever except for Harry against Voldemort but in that case it's the fact that the wands have twin cores and also Harry can't die at the hands of Voldemort because of the blood thing
1. Dumbledore is A fucking liar DUH 2.Tell me where is Mcgonagall birthdate in the books 3. Dumbledore didnt block the killing curse he moved Gellert wand causing him to miss
@@memiaszzinternetu6513 1. the whole point of the King's Cross scene at the end of the books is that Dumbledore finally stops lying to Harry and tells him the whole truth, if was lying then it ruins what is pretty much the best scene of the whole series. 2. Mcgonagall says in the order of the phoenix that she has been teaching at Hogwarts for "39 years this december" and 1995-39=1956 3. Dumbledore and Aberforth blocking the killing curse is apparently what saves Credence's life and breaks the blood pact. Although that scene is not very clear I admit I might be wrong there
@@harrietvane7805 I hope you are right about the Mcgonagall fact, but the fact they never met is said by dumbledore in the King's Cross chapter at the end of deathly hallows
@@harrietvane7805 I hope they give them another film, there’s rumors this could be the last one given Johnny’s controversy with the franchise and now Ezra’s arrests, he’s a main character in this franchise and now he’ll either have to be killed off or recasted more than likely if another film continues on.
Ngl, I enjoyed this the most out of the three fantastic beasts film. I still wish Johnny Depp will return and I hope Ezra can still play his role but other than that I am so excited for the next film
Me and my wife went to watch it on the premiere date. We got half way through it before two tornadoes touched down in the city we was watching it in. Needless to say we didn’t get to see the whole movie.
I wonder if there's gonna be a Tom Riddle movie trilogy... The story of his parents and grandparents; his life in the orphanage and Hogwarts; his rise to power and the attempted murder of Harry Potter; the "death" of Peter Pettygrew and the arrest of Sirius Black; and the rescue of baby Harry Potter by Hagrid and delivery to #4 Privet Drive.

YOUR THE BEST MORGAN!!!
yess
You are the best! I watch all you videos and you are truly brilliant. I was wondering if you could do a breakdown on Admiral Thrawn? In star wars?
Cool
The parallel of the duel being similar to when they were younger is actually really cool, but would've been more powerful had we actually seen the first one
I’m still hoping we get to see it
Yes, only book readers like us knew it and hp films didn't really explain much of that 3 way fight..so many people didn't get how strong that scene was!
These are the two main questions IMO:

He did grieve after Grindlewald left at the end.
Tbh I just want him to find love again. Leta wasn’t really dedicated to him. I know it’s awful she passed but she eventually didn’t choose him. He deserves better, and I hope it’s Eulalie tbh.
The Harry Potter books were a labour of love while most of these new productions are just being created for the business they bring.

“You’re all alone.”
Casting note: that Law's character could have loved Mickelson's was more believable than that he once loved Depp.
Maybe it's just me but not long after Dumbledore walking off in the last scene; Dumbledore's line " you're never alone as long as you have friends"
Not said but IMHO is when he realizes that.
Grind must have been able to really lay down the lap ham in his youth. Dumb can't get over him.. even though grind had literally murdered little children..
Things I didn’t like:
1) Tina getting sidelined
2) The revelation of Credence/Aurelius being Aberforth’s son happening in casual conversation
3) Confirmation of Ariana being an obscurial in the same casual conversation
4) Breaking the blood pact so easily, almost accidentally
5) The chilling bowing to Dumbledore didn’t make sense, Dumbledore himself has admitted his fatal mistakes and flaws. Bowing to Newt, or even Jacob, would’ve been more suitable
6) Yusuf Kama is kinda just there.
I thought it was a nod to how dumbledore would never want power due to how it corrupted him.
Tina got sidelined because the actress was unavailable during filming … i think she may have gotten sick …
@@lupe1808 also might be because the actress who plays Tina was very vocal about jk trans stand.
“Show don’t tell”

I wanted to see the day Ariana died not just see Dumbledore telling the story.
I wanted to see how him and grindelwald fell in love. Not to just be told they were in love.

My exact same thoughts - so many times they told instead of showing making everything that much more unsatisfying and anticlimactic. And often told with no build up or crescendo
I think J.K.Rowling is trying to write it like how she wrote her books which obviously didnt translate well to the movies
They’ll probably show it in the Fourth Movie
There’s still another movie at least so it’s possible.
@@christiancividino455 2 more movies
My theory is that the fourth movie will be the Halfbloodprince of this franchise. Meaning we will learn more about Grindelwalds past, his rise to a leader, his past with Dumbledore and his time in Durmstrang. And as a secondary plotline we could perhaps witness the first opening of the Chamber of Secrets and a young Tom Riddle making contacts in Hogwarts and planning to become a wizarding leader like Grindelwald. And maybe we will see the early affects of World War Two on the Wizarding World.

There is nothing near Johnny Depp whatever you say. Mads is okay as an individual but the series needed Johnny to reach that level.

Honestly I’d love that but I can’t ever imagine Jacob leading. He’s kind and pure-hearted but he’s not a leader like Albus is.

It was Dumbledore who replied "you are all alone". I just watched it now repeatedly to confirm.
Whoa I didn't think this much of the end part while watching the film! Don't get me wrong, I'm a potter head and understood everything but when you explained how Dumbledore was all alone, that part now has so much depth for me now..nicely explained

Hi, just a question, in case you know the answer. Why didn’t Dumbledore enter the bakery? It seems like it’s his choice to be alone. Im not sure though, it just seems that way to me!
@@karlalee1245 An exact answer to this question I think only JK himself will know, but I can speculate
Especially the last scenes of the movie portray Albus as a man broken in love
Grindelwald has clearly hurt him more with his words than a clear separation would have been, you can see that also shortly after, when he doesn't go to his brother and his nephew to help, but he averts the help-seeking gaze of Aberforth
So he also keeps away from the other guests, because he is distanced, because he wants to distance himself from love and maybe that will be the problem for the fourth movie as well
It also doesn't seem to me quite in keeping with the character of Albus from the later years, but perhaps he still needs to rediscover that to complete his character arc, towards the Dumbledore of the Harry Potter books
There are all kinds of love. Grindelwald was just trying to keep control over Dumbledore by triggering a common human fear of being alone.
Although I'm a huge advocate for Johnny Depp to be Grindelwald, Madds Mikkelsen did PHENOMENAL
I'm sad for Credece. He should get to be happy for a while. All he wants is to be loved by his family. I love him

forget dumbledore and grindelwald. we want a "the wizard in the hopping pop, babbity rabbity, and the cackling stump" spin-off series.
@@markedred That would be something.
@@thetimetraveler7297 It’s not too long. It’s stuff like this that makes it interesting.
I was curious if we got to see Voldemort as a child or young teenager unless I got the timeline wrong but I think it would have been awesome to see say chamber of secrets from their perspective in this movie (I haven’t seen the movie )
@GreyJedi 2001 Voldemort opened the Chamber of Secrets in 1943 while he was still a student.
I already saw enough of Voldemort.

It was always implied, that Rita Skeeter’s book was historical accurate. If anything, it was probably Newt who spread the story about the duel.
SPOILER WARNING:
The problems I had with this movie was it sort of broke rules set up by the previous films.
Yes (minus the horrid rewrites)
Was it a good Harry Potter/Wizarding World movie? Hell no
That pretty much sums up my opinion.
@@popg8710 see now this makes sense to me! Thank you for this 🔥

The fact that I whatched this asap as this came out just proves I’m a big fan!
How does Aberforth communicate with Credence through the mirrors? Is it a two way mirror? If so, how didn’t Grindelwald know there was a two-way mirror at his castle
My question is is it the same two way mirror that Aberforth uses in HP. If so how did it get from Nurmenguard(however that is spelled) to Sirius.
I love how you saw every detail and made the movie seem even more beautiful than it already was.
This is literally the first time i havent watched the review/breakdown before the movie 😂😂😂
The Newtina scene at the end stole the show for me
Their chemistry is top notch
Excellent. But how can we be sure about the alternate dimension when it so closely resembles the alternate dimension shown at the beginning and in the middle of the film too? We're those both also created by the blood pact?
I’m happy they included the “always” great homage to HP books/films
Is Dumbledore who replies "I am all alone"? I've seen the movie twice already, in Spanish, and I feel sure that at least in the Spanish dub is Gellert the one who says "Who would love you know Dumbledore? You're all alone"...
In English, the line is the same as in Spanish. Grindelwald says it to manipulate and mock Dumbledore.
Are the characters gonna be part of the next plot to come… all we know dumbledore mission is to stop gellert, and gellert is obviously gonna lose alot of his followers due to the fact he failed to become the leader of the wizard world
It feels very much like a Charles Xavier vs Magneto storyline
so sad to see Dumbledore all alone for so long T_T
The love sacrifice needs to be a real sacrifice not because of the person dying but the person needs to die without presenting resistance. Once people asked JK why James sacrifice didn’t work to save lily since he died trying to protect her and Harry and she said it was because James fought Voldemort. Lily didn’t try to fight him, she just stood in front of her son refusing to give him up and her defenseless act of protection is what saved Harry.
Excellent explanation. The movie was indeed fantastic
the fantastic beast series have so much potential and i absolutely love it
Always a great fan of your harry potter videos!! ❤🔥
Chất lượng, Sỹ Luân chắc thích bản Cover này lắm này! Chúc mừng em cùng toàn thể Ekip F. Studio
Nothing really happened in the movie.. who cares about elections? Politics?
Why there wasn't someone like Nicolas Flammel in the second movie? Like.. I don't know, grand/parents of the Marauders..
Anyway... it's not a HP movie... so... enjoyable, but oh well...
I loved this movie!!
I’m so excited to watch the movie :D
It makes sense to make that pact when they are allies, not when they are enemies
Anyway, i have three questions. Because if the false chillin died, all the people there would know that Grindelwald was a fraud and was manipulating the voting anyway
honestly agree with your questions here, would like to hear what people have to say
The movies do not make any sense at all. None of it. I wish JK had written books instead. The movies are now canon, but none of them make ANY sense, right from the first one.
I seriously didn’t understand the random duel and the selecting Dumbledore thing. This video was very helpful, thanks!!
I loved this movie when I saw it
Honestly this explains everything I watched in the theatre. Thank you for your motivational wisdom, Morgan...Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
"In the original series we were told" clearly means nothing anymore.
McGonagall was already born in the late 19th century for she was Dumbledore's student.
1. Dumbledore is A fucking liar DUH
2.Tell me where is Mcgonagall birthdate in the books
2. Mcgonagall says in the order of the phoenix that she has been teaching at Hogwarts for "39 years this december" and 1995-39=1956
Thank you, I haven't seen this one, and now at least I know about the creatures and the storyline. I appreciate your talent.
I love this movie kind and good time with everyone
I didn’t read the books and when Dumbeldore first said he was in love with Grindelwald I literally gasped so loud 😂
"Always"
nice someone that watched the whole movies, and understands Grin didnt attack Alb nice work
I wonder if there's gonna be a Tom Riddle movie trilogy...
Nah, we already know all that - as is evidenced by you delineating his life.
@@COmtnLady
Well... I wanna see it on big screen... and maybe some "filler stories" that weren't mentioned in the book.
I saw the movie on Monday, and I thought it was better than the 2nd one at least. I would watch it again
