Best Player: Nickelodeon's FORGOTTEN Gamer Movie
Вставка

- Despite having a great track record with sitcoms and cartoons, Nickelodeon was never able to replicate that same success with their original films. So today, I decided to look at one that I remember watching when it came out, Best Player. Does it hold up? Watch and find out.

Ngl, idk how copyright let me get away with using a P!nk song in this video. I was fully prepared to replace it too but it seems like it's not an issue.
right lol
for now
You should give everyone and also especially me as well too a Review and Reaction video like you did with this Best Player Nickelodeon Channel Movie Video for Disney's 2005's Superhero's Family Favorite Film Sky High Please Please!!
Congrats
You should review another Nick movie
I remember Nickelodeon used to make a lot of original movies like The Boy Who Cried Werewolf, Spectacular!, Nicky Deuce, Swindle, etc.
You can tell people don't care about Nick movies when the movie is actually called The Boy Who Cried Werewolf.
@@ElizabethMidfordHatesCops My bad, it's been that long since I remember that movie
The Boy Who Cried Werewolf was great
Is it okay for us to say that like Best Player, Nickelodeon’s movies (with a few exceptions like The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie and Tintin and potentially but unlikely Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtle Mayhem) are boring, teen pandering movies by Nickelodeon? Because I’ll always respect that there will always be people that have a soft spot for these films because they remember enjoying them as kids as long as they can respect that even as I kid, I couldn’t remember them even after watching them.
All I remember is boy who cried werewolf had a whole Britney Spears song
most unrealistic part of the movie is that house only being $175,000
I always thought the prize money was weird too lol, that was such a specific amount.
well it was 2011 lol
Crazy because in 2023’s market, a house like that (depending on what state it’s in) could cost 10 times that
I always thought it was weird the whole storyline of him moving out, never being resolved at the end
As a child, I always assumed he moved in with Tracy. As an adult now, though, I find that conclusion really weird for only knowing someone for like two weeks
At least he has a regular job now, I guess?
My college professor wrote the script for this movie. He teaches courses on writing for Film and Television
maybe he might want to try taking a writing course instead
Cap
Lyle Lyle crocodile You can fact check them in less than a minute. And kid. The movie is written by a college professor
@@alexandramcginnis8872 oh cool
@@lmaoemmihe did indeed write for television. He didn't write well for television
You literally unlocked a memory with this video. I was excited for this movie as a kid because icarly and then watched it when it premiered and then never again. Haven't really even thought about it until now. I don't think this movie had a lot of reruns or I must have just missed them.
I HATE the “Liar Revealed” story. Where the whole story is built up by the protagonist telling an elaborate lie. Because it’s inevitable that it’s all gonna come crashing down when the truth is revealed. So watching the main character lie more and more is just uncomfortable to watch. It also makes the protagonist very unsympathetic.
Ah, but they get you Tonys and a comparably mediocre movie adaptation.
I feel like it depends on why the protagonist is lying. There are scenarios where it would make sense to lie to protect yourself, for example. So long as the protagonist has a reason like that and assuming the lies don't result in irreversible damage to others, you could make a decent 'liar revealed' story I think. It's just that this trope isn't handled particularly well.
idk if pro gamers/streamers were making bank in 2011 the way they do today, but damn you would think Q would at LEAST be able to afford a down payment given how famous he is in online gaming circles.
That's what I was thinking. Give it like, 8 more years and he could've legit made bank.
The movie was probably written in 2009-10 right before that would be possible
True it’s definitely a movie that happened right before the rise of let’s play. Give it like 5 or 6 years he would’ve been making bank
Probably not. I don't think he wouldve gotten paid that much from just various appearances on media. This was also hella before streaming and lets plays became huge, so I doubt he couldve atleast made much bank off of youtube.
Poor guy started his gaming career too early.
He was probably not earning a cent back then the internet was in its infancy he was probably making money from competing
I'm amazed at your ability to keep me invested in a review of a movie I have negative interest in. Like, there's zero things about the movie itself I find interesting, but your commentary is impressively engaging, so my attention didn't stray once! And I feel fully confident saying that, because I've just binged every video currently on your channel and loved it. (Also, that house tour bit cracked me up)
Thank you 🫡
bro I hate when movies pretend a character is ugly or unattractive or sum shit. like you GOOD and well half the dudes in her school would ask her out.
this movie is the whole reason I can't ever hear "what time is it" without immediately responding "it's chicken time"
I've seen this movie once and no-one I know even knows this exists
this video is the only evidence I found of this movie existing for over a decade
Lol the “chicken time” scene was the one scene I remembered from this movie for the longest time, and it’s stuck with me. Last fall we adopted a kitten and she needed to take some medicine for a while so we’d always let her have some rotisserie chicken as a treat to get the taste out of her mouth after taking it, and whenever we gave it to her I’d go “what time is it? It’s chicken time” 😄
Swindle will forever be the best Nickelodeon original movie, the story was so engaging when it had no right to be.
I believe it's based on a book of the same name.
I don't seem to remember that one. What was it about?
@@onigames7309 A swindler named Swindell swindles (Roll Credits) a kid out of his rare baseball card who is unaware of its value. The kid then assembles a team of stereotypical heist movie archetypes to retrieve the card before Swindell can make a deal to sell it.
It takes a simple premise and is able to make a very engaging plot out of it that keeps you hooked the entire way through.
@@guestb8389 That' sounds kinda cool. honestly. How did I miss that one?
FR THOO, its so good
I certainly DID NOT forget about the time i spent looking for this game irl
LITERALLY! 😂
I was so bummed when I played the version they had on nickelodeon’s website. It was like a 2D flash game
I’d love to see a review on the Nickelodeon movie Swindle I remember it coming out and liking it, but I was 9 at the time so I’d want to see how it holds up today.
Yep good shit
The Disney Brain reviewed both Swindle and Rags. I miss when his name had meaning. I've never even watched Power Rangers but I will make time to watch them.
All I remember is ariana grande and (I think) the girl from big time rush was in it?
I was starting this video like "huh don't think I've ever seen this", then the clip of the video game inside the movie played and 'BOOM' core memory awakened.
ngl the only nick movies I remember is "Barnyard" and "Angus, Thongs, and perfect snogging" for some reason 😂
The Nick original movies that come to mind for me are Rags and The Boy Who Cried Werewolf (which I just rewatched like a year or two ago and I still think it’s good)
I remember watching this movie when I was a kid and I thought it was the coolest movie ever.
you and a couple other yt creators use the old tv bumpers as ad bumpers and i love it, makes my heart fuzzy
I remember Nick promoting this, but I had no interest watching 😂
I was literally thinking of Rags when you were going through the lineup. I remember it was like a reverse Cinderella Story. But I love your videos, good work man!
Funny thing about this movie, I remember watching and thinking eSports were something the writers came up with specifically for this movie
It's crazy I remember this movie when it came out I liked it a lot crazy burst of memories come to seeing this thanks mr. Nostalgia
That's why I'm here 🫡
I never forgot it because this movie was actually good. I love watching movies that I expect to be awful, but then they turn out to be surprisingly great!
This is probably the most remembered forgotten movie that I can think of from Nickelodeon. I remembered hearing about it and thinking it would be cool to see Sam and Spencer in a different scene with video games but yeah for a long time I didn't even remember what the movie was even called
"alta dude" clearly stands for avatar last the airbender dude
Lol, didn't realize that. If I had actually scripted that part I would've realized it but it was an adlib so
@@MrNostalgia no no it was a joke 😭 his name was ALTA not ATLA
@@Zipzapadam lol whoops
I love your content it really scratches an itch i didn't know I had. I honestly do not remember watching any nickelodeon movies other than Rags, I forgot I watched this movie until i watched this video. You should talk about the other nickelodeon original movies cause this was such a good video.
Nick Kid here, I love your Disney content but the Nick stuff hits home. I do have to say that my brother and I loved Zeke & Luther and I appreciate that you manage to mention the show in every video!
THANK YOU FOR NOTICING I DO IT IN EVERY VIDEO FINALLY LOL (although I somehow missed it in the hatching Pete video)
@@MrNostalgia Not enough people remember it so I get pumped when someone does! And I totally thought there was a mention in the hatching Pete video! Just throw it in the caption 😂
Definitely think your videos deserve more attention!!! I can’t believe you haven’t gotten over 1M yet but I’m expecting it!
The timing on this is perfect because I read a comment the other day about a Nick movie with Jennette McCurdy and Jerry Trainor. I’d never seen it before, so I was wondering about it and here this video pops up when I pull up UA-cam like the next day
THIS MOVIE HAS BLIPPED INTO MY MIND MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS. I've always thought about it and tried to remember what the title was but it would always slip my mind until the next time. It definitely left a mark on me as a kid and I'm glad someone decided to talk about it.
You should cover live action Nickelodeon theatrical movies from the 90s and 2000s like Harriet the Spy, Good Burger, Snow Day, Clockstoppers, etc.
People really tend to forget that Janet Varnet (the voice of Korra) been in a lot of shows throughout the years. It also kinda weirds me out that she's mostly known for voicing a black character.
Avatar is an asiatic fantasy setting, there are no Black people. I don’t know if there’s also a well-know Black character that Janet voices but Korra (and the Water Tribes as a whole) are based off of Inuit people.
*native character
Most of the avatar cast voices characters that weren’t their ethnicity.
Native character*
So...she was a good fit for the role that's all that matters
7:10 Your continued use of Mindless Behavior beats for background music is hilarious. Glad to see MB getting some credit lol
I will never understand why Sheldon won! It's like School of Rock losing Battle of the Bands, it just doesn't make sense. Nevertheless Best Player is a still a really good movie. Its a 8/10!
i tuned in the day it came out and NEVER thought about it again
Mr Nostalgia out with another banger ong, I haven’t actually watched Best Player though I enjoyed this video and the editing was impeccable. The bumper before and after the ad break was very satisfying, I also appreciate your adoration for Zeke and Luther as you mention any connection to the show in the subject you discuss. I was also thinking about the plot hole with Quincy not being recognised out in public, I think it seems possible that he’s just quite big online, though since he’s lived in that town his entire life it was just a 15 minutes of fame type deal for him in real life unless he’s out of town.
I appreciate the kind words fr. And I’m so glad you noticed the Zeke and Luther thing lol
Great video man 🙌🏼🔥 another classic from my childhood
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS MOVIE FOREVER
I love this movie so much im happy to finally see someone make a video about it I rewatch this movie so much
swindle is legit a fun cute movie run that up next
I think this is the one that I’ve been searching for for yearssss so exited to see if I remembered correctly
This just opened up memories.
And this also opened up a memory of a tv movie where the main character clones himself, it was not a very good movie from what I remember but I'm not sure if it actually existed or if it was just a fake memory.
Random but I love your intro!!! Every time I see it I’m like this is hard 😭
I remembered it right away, I loved this movie as a kid. It was so alluring the way the video games worked
Honestly a bit of a shame this movie turned out as mid as it did. The idea is a lot more interesting than most DCOMs I have heard of. Would be pretty relevant nowadays too with how gaming culture has evolved, especially with streamers and UA-camrs. Also sucks that Quincy seems to not have matured much at all during the story either. Maybe in teaching a home economics class he could have realized just how out of order his own life had become and in wanting to be better for the mother character he tries to clean up his act.
Loved the video, I can’t believe this movie had a teenage girl get doxxed by a gamer. Only on Nickelodeon. I loved the visuals for the video game but now it’s a little rough.
I can’t believe this movie ended with “woshige why are you standing up”
Another amazing video man. Commenting purely to boost the algorithm 👌 👌
i love this movie, and hope you will cover swindle as well! it’s my favorite nick movie!
small correction though: 16 Wishes is not a DCOM
That's crazy, my mind is blown. I never knew that lol
But yeah, I absolutely loved Swindle. It'll def get a video at some point
It’s not?? How so?
@@beebeevids6851 even though it aired on disney channel, it was not branded under the “disney channel original movie” umbrella. the logo doesn’t say “disney” on it or anything, they most likely just aired because it starred debby ryan who was one of their biggest names, but it is not included in the official list
That's the third movie I found out that wasn't a DCOM. The other ones being Hocus Pocus and Max Keeble's Big Move.
I’d never forget this movie. Jerry Trainor singing chicken time was a highlight of my childhood and I still sting that shit to this day
This was my favorite movie on Nickelodeon, I was a GIANT fan of iCarly so 10 year old me seeing Spencer and Sam playing video games together was so hype
Oh my God, I had 100% completely forgotten this film and I don't know how. Maybe I only saw it once, but I definitely saw it and seeing the clips really brought it back.
A lot of these goals in the plot actually sound like missions in a video game and the long, drown-out, overly-convoluted story that results from them.
I remember watching this movie as a kid because there wasn’t a lot of video game related stuff on tv at the time (aside from G4) and I do like the idea of the whole video game sabotage plot. Not necessarily original but can easily be done in a fun comedy film, which I felt like it tried to be. But I also remember being just as confused as you are with the strange plot points and the unsatisfying ending.
Hopefully you get to the Cartoon Network movies as well like those live action Scooby-Doo and Ben 10 movies. My one of my favorites was Firebreather.
Firebreather was my shit.
The chicken time scene is definetly a core memory and the only thing I remembered from this movie before watching this video. I hear "what time is it" and my brain immediately goes "adventure time" or "it's chicken time"
Edit: typo
I remember finding this movie on Hulu one day, and starting it up thinking I’d just watch the “What time is it? It’s chicken time” scene for old times sake, because that scene was the one thing I remembered too. I ended up watching the whole damn movie for some reason… 🥴
Another nickelodeon movie I remember watching a couple of times back then was The Last Day of Summer, I personally really liked it, it ends with a nice life lesson and the music number towards the end was really good. You should talk about it.
To this day if you ask any of my friends in our group what the time is, we promptly respond with, "It's chicken time."
The only thing I remember about this movie is the game, these two stared in it and Big Time Rush having a credit song
its funny to me bc i love watching videos like this and i have seen someone years ago talk abt this movie i cant recall rn who it was but i recognize this movie and i have never seen it outside of that😅it was probably in a compilation of some other movies/shows from nick or something. no o es willing to do a single video abt this movie ig😭😭im so glad ur here to fill in the gap in this fr🙌🏻 like i said my fave type of videos on youtube just gimme niche/nostalgia commentary/retrospectives all day
Good video 🎉
used to rewatch this movie so much as a kid
holy shit there is no way. i don't know if you remember me but we used to play toontown back in the day with quackers, my name was cj on there. This just popped up in my recommended randomly, good shit dawg.
Lol, I remember. I never actually played Toontown though I was just in his server. We'll still friends too lol. Good to hear from you
Technically, Nacho Libre is a nick movie. Idk if it aired on the Nick channel or not. But a lot of big movies were backed by nick. I don't think they're technically nickelodeon original movies or nick was just a production company. But either way. TECHNICALLY, nick made a lot of iconic movies.
Nickelodeon Movies made some bangers. One of my favorites is the 2004 _A Series of Unfortunate Events._
Bro I had to subscribe I remember being a kid and this premiered 🥲thank you fam
I just remembered after seeing the title. Thanks
yesssss!!!!!! i knew one day we would see the house!!! yesss im literally so hyped rn
The science teacher that is cool with all the mess with the failed sabotaged project is also in Sweet 16 I think. Looks like the rent guy that tells Debbie (forgot her character name) to pay rent or move out.
oh my gosh i forgot about this film . . you really are MR NOSTALGIA
3:18 this movie's ending actually made me tear up
For a second I thought you were actually talking about Best Player, lol
I like how instead of Sheldon having to chase Chris to be with her, they just gave him endless girls in the end
i hope you cover the boy who cried werewolf bc its iconic
i spent days trying to remember this movies name a couple months ago and when i described it to my friends none of them recognized it 😭
This movie has a special place in my heart I tear up every time I watch it
The people at the tournament said the two had over a million hours of gameplay on Black Hole in their careers. That’s at least 114 years. And it was over that.
I completely forgot about this movie until you showed the trailer haha
AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT IS IN LOVE WITH THE INTRO .
I know Good Burger is *technically* attatched to a show, But that nickelodeon movie was probably more popular than the show it was attached to. So at least...nickelodeon has that.
I work at dunkin donuts and to this day I always wanna be in the drivethru like "welcome to good burger home of the good burger may I take your order?" Like it was so impactful to me and I wasn't even born in the 90s when it came out haha
Dude..I have been trying to find the name of the movie Shredderman Rules FOR YEARS, and it hit me once you said it and showed the poster. Watching the movie now for the first time since would air on Nick, this is crazy.
Best ad transition ever
my only memory associated with this movie is one time i was watching a rerun of it and the hinge on my ds broke. i didnt know that things like that were a simple fix and i dont remember if any adults were around at the time so i waited for a commercial break and then walked to the trash can and threw it away immediately. tears were flowing, of course. i dont think i ever told anyone i did that.
Here's something I've been wanting to see lately. ReRez recently did a video about the depiction of playing video games (be they consoles or arcade cabinets) in films, and whether the actor is playing them for real, or faking it. I had been curious, though, about movies that feature video game footage that is completely fake: as in, the movie needed an original game featured in it, and the VFX team had to design a fake game themselves. How many movies feature fake video games, and how many of them actually look like a real game versus a really really bad imitation of one?
This movie, right here, is a great example of the latter. The games in this movie look like they were made by someone who's never played a game past the 2D, Sega-CD side-scroller era, and this is what they think 3D games look like. It's dorky AF.
You are right that Nickelodeon couldn’t beat Disney Channel in terms of original movies. Neither could ABC Family (now freeform). I definitely didn’t see the movie you’re reviewing but honestly this one seems kinda like a fun watch.
YES I have wanted people talking about this surreal but comfy film
Remember this and loving this movie. Would play it while beating Black Ops for the first time.
Man $175,000 for the house is too good to be true 😢😢
Nothing to do with this particular video, but this channel needs a Susie Q review. Prime example of an unknown Disney channel movie.
I watched Nick a whole lot back in the day and yet still never heard of this until now. Though seems I really didn’t miss out on much.
I remember forgetting what this movie was called. Then when the ready player one movie came out, I assumed this is what they were talking about
That hollow instrumental tho 😤 🔥
Filmed in Victoria, British Columbia!!
i LOVED spectacular! tho hahah, would love to see a vid abt it!!
I got you
Was really upset and came to UA-cam to see Mr. Nostalgia. No longer upset
Is your background music Keep Her on The Low by Mindless Behavior?
Yup
nick had some good ass movies. best player, rags, the girl who cried warewolf are all great n i still watch them sometimes. a lot of people remember them fondly but hating on em gets more views so i get it.
Mr.Nostalgia has the best intro on UA-cam hands down
the mention of shredderman rules unlodged something in my brain
Hands down my favorite movie
I remember watching this when it premiered! Good times!
I forgot this kovie and honesty, it still pretty good!
I remember watching this on TV it’s one of the few memories I have on watching nick
