Thanks so much! As a single mom with 2 jobs I can't afford my truck being down, or auto shop prices. After watching your videos, I changed my trans cable and adjusted it. The hardest thing was actually getting the correct cable! (Go to the dealership, they were the only ones that could get it! $54)

I cannot tell you how much I appreciate this video. I bought my F150 lariat used about three years ago and it never would go quite in the park and slid all over the place were staying in gear. I even asked my mechanic to fix it and he said he didn’t know how when I may need a new transmission. I’ve been on around and under cars to know enough that that was bullshit he just didn’t wanna do it. Today took a little trying but I got it. Can’t thank you

Thank you so much Chris. My shift cable melted against the exhaust. Replacing was not difficult, however, I could not get it started in park and also the reverse lamps lit up in park position. I saw the adjustment tab from your video, and it worked correctly after only a few minutes. Thanks again, you 'da man.

Thank you so much for doing this video. I changed my cable and the truck was doing almost the same thing as it was before I changed it. I was ready to take it to a transmission place but decided to do one last UA-cam search first. This fixed my problem and I am off and running.

I just looked at a 04 ranger that seemed solid all around except pretty rusty underneath but not too bad.
It was hard to put into every gear. It started in park tho. I looked underneath but I couldn't quickly find the linkage to peek at it. This sounds like the solution. I'm hoping! Buddy wants to sell as is. Stiff shifter seems to be it's only issue. Solid runner, no smoke, smooth shifts. You think this is just the adjustment? It seemed really tough to pull on amd push on the shifter.
      Used vehicle hunting is terrifying!

Hey brother so I just replaced the cable on mine due to prior one failing to where I could not shift into park. I put the new one in and set the spring like you showed and my truck still is in park on the dash but it feels like the truck is sitting in neutral cause I can only drive forward I got no reverse and no park. Any thoughts?

@@GarageNoise I figured it out. My Ford has park towards the back of the tranny on the gear shifter not the front like most diagrams show so I realized once that was in the right place that my cable wasn’t long enough so I had Ford exchange it for the right one. It’ll be up and going tomorrow morning!! ****heads up to all with 2004 Ford F-150 XLT newer style not heritage your cable length is 43” not 38. Another way to tell is that your shifter is on the tree by the steering wheel not on the center consol!

Check transmission fluid. If it's full. Smell it, if it smells burnt thats a sign there could be a transmission issue. Did you check you cable ? Doesn't sound like that's the problem but you never know.
