Wow! I have the same issue with my 2007 Ford F-150 Lariat this morning. Did not know what was going on. This video helps me understanding the problem. I feel much better now. Thank you for sharing this video.
I have the same problem one year ago. My mechanic helps me fixing the small conexion to the shifter. But yesterday i started again having some troubles with the start ignition (that means in a high probability, the cable isnt going on parking). So im thinking to fix again or changing the cable. Thanks to you and your knowledge i can do the procedure. New sub here my friend !!!!
Mine went out yesterday (2005 F150)~ it's at the mechanic shop right now after being towed over there. Could be those 'yellow' bushings or change the entire cable like the OP is doing here - hope it ain't that... we'll see ~ thanks for the vid, big help in narrowing the problem down !
This afternoon i put my 2007 f150 in reverse and the shifter moves but wont go out of reverse. Anyway to get it in drive to get it to the shop to replace? Its in a parking lot right now.
That I've seen the bottom bushing is not replaceable. I called a dealership to confirm this and they did. If your bottom bushing is bad you have to get to cable.
I experienced a similar issue. Did you try what I showed in the video: release the adjustment mechanism where the cable fixes to the pivoting arm, manually move the arm to "find" the gear, then lock the adjustment in place?
Hi Mark. I suppose you could. Another viewer had a similar comment. I wasn't considering that at the time and just went ahead and replaced the whole cable. But this is helpful for others who may elect to just replace the bushing. Thank you!
@@BlackHoleDIY my ‘04 F150 has failed me many times, this time it is the shifter cable. If replacing the bushing isn’t an option for me, your video will be a great guide for the full cable replacement.
Couldn’t find the part anywhere until you I found your video. You’re a life saver
That's great! Thank you.
@@alexroose worked like you said thanks again. One thing I did made it easier was removing the dash support bracket. Cheers
Excellent! Thanks for sharing the tip!

Thank you very much! I appreciate the feedback.
Thanks for the detailed instructions!! Mine just went out this afternoon and feel better about my repair. Much appreciated I liked and subscribed.

Good Job ! Appreciate the effort and time to share.
Thank you! Happy to do it.

You're welcome, Chris. Glad you found it helpful!
Thank you so much I am fixing to attempt to do it myself now your video is very good and detailed very well thanks for all the pointers😊
You're welcome. You can do it!
I have a 2007, hope it is this same and simple procedure. Thank you!
You're welcome. I'd imagine it's very similar.
You can buy just the bushings as well if your cable is in good shape.
Great tip! Thanks, Nicholas.
Where can you get just the bushing from ?
I've seen them on Ebay.

You're welcome!
Where did you buy the replacement part?
I purchased it on Ebay.
I put the new cable in, and the shifter isn’t quite lined up when I put it into reverse and drive, what do I need to adjust to fix this

@@BlackHoleDIYyup trying that right now, the main issue is the truck is starting while in the reverse gear
@@BlackHoleDIY just adjusted it it works now thanks for the tip
Great! Glad to hear. Good work!
Great video
Thank you!
Thanks a lot!
You're welcome!
What was the length of the cable?
Hi Misty. Unfortunately, I did not measure the cable's length before installing.
To find drive did you turn the truck off in neutral when making the adjustments?
I turned the truck off with the shifter in the drive position, then moved the arm on the transmission.
In my case it did this down on the transmission link. Its the same thing. Replacing the cable sucks.
Why can’t you just replace the bushing that holds the cable to the shifter lug?
Hi Mark. I suppose you could. Another viewer had a similar comment. I wasn't considering that at the time and just went ahead and replaced the whole cable. But this is helpful for others who may elect to just replace the bushing. Thank you!

Are you under the vehicle or under the hood?
I am working from under the vehicle.
Does this work for 2004 ford f150?
The process is likely similar but I'm sure it would require a different cable.
is this for the code P0731
No, I don't think this issue would result in P0731.
Make sure e brake is on and chock in place.
Very good advice. Thank you!
