i did this video because transit youtubers or content creators out there take 9000000 minutes just to explain one simple concept so i'm doing it within around 10 minutes
2:40 they boosted this bus then they boosted THIS BUS and THIS AND THIS ANDDD THISSS ANDDD THISSSSSSSS🔥🔥📢📢 im dead of laughter, u have my thanks :) 502 is still in operation and u forgot 674
To add salt to my wounds, I take the TEL at 9am from Siglap to Outram, people there have seats. Meanwhile I can't even find a place to stand at 10am. The MRT is so bad the situation, we badly need that Cross Island Line. NEL is overloaded I'm surprise it doesn't breakdown. NEL is fucked. Not to be political, you wonder why WP so successful along the NEL, you stand on the line.
honestly I am a fan of the hong kong style X-bus networks using expressways, we have what they call a "Bus-bus interchange" on the expressway not unlike trellis tower, and then make exchanges for each way. serangoon to punggol are flanked by CTE and KPE with TPE and Bartley cutting through making it an ideal "ringway" to go onto and get people out of the area. Also CDS could go faster, put some seatbelts on it and call it "safe" to go 80kph on expressways
Although hong kong's bus services generally have longer intervals between buses I agree that hong kong runs and plans their bus network better than SG, like there's no doubt about it I think your expressway interchange concept sounds really cool (and practical), like why not build a Sungei Serangoon or Kim Chuan E'way Int (and your bus depot is just next door - space efficient also) Unfortunately because SG's LTA's full of people with zero (actual) bus planning expertise they would never in a million years increase the speed limit or come up with anything useful Which is sad cos SG's non wheelchair accessible buses, be it single decker or articulated bus (bendy bus), especially the pre 2006 bus models they all weren't speedlocked to 60km/h and ran up to 80 or 90.
@ I personally has a proposal to extend new DTL branch from Beauty World to Tengah via Bukit Batok West to alleviate the west area travelling to the city instead of a new MRT line since a good part of mid west area are pretty much a dead zone. Not sure how much would it makes sense since DTL is only three car capacity.
actually i like the idea of a branch to tengah you can choose to touch either bukit gombak or bukit batok west like you said (or even both) but if capacity is an issue, i think a plan for future holland line to go to tengah might work also (since napier has a provision for it in the existing station box i heard)
I think its just a very bad prediction in LTA hands I can tell they didnt expect this to be crowded Which is why lots of svc that are very good gets cut/Withdrawn Then 21 years passes by and now LTA trying to think spamming CDS works(Which as you said its just temporary) Routes like 676,677 Is just weird in my opinion They need to introudce a svc north east or medium trunk/Cityshopper (like you mentioned im the One good example is 107 They need one of these type of svc But now since LTA dont like trunks We now da han with the NEL overcrowding till People protest one day then LTA will Actually fix
What you said makes a lot of sense, and now I have some ammo to use for any stupid idiot saying "we just lower frequencies" and hope nobody catches their lies. However, while I agree in theory to introduce some shuttle routes so the NEL focuses more on long distance riders, the main elephant in the room is "demand", especially for any potential routes heading towards the southeast. Routes like 43 and 87 already prove there is good demand, but the frequencies do not tally. 43 clearly runs parallel to the NEL, CCL and now TEL4, but its good connections make it immune to withdrawal, so the blue ribbon manipulates frequencies so commuters are so inconvenienced with waiting they get onto the trains instead. What Singapore's transport system truly needs is a change in mindset. "Change yourself, and the world around you changes", as the old saying goes. The hub-and-spoke system can only go far, especially when you can literally draw a straight line from point A to point B. Sadly, I highly doubt this change will come in this generation.
Good vid, but one thought comes to mind. You know when you expand the roads and more people are incentivised to drive their own car, making buses and trains not as useful (more empty) and feeding into a vicious cycle. Would there be a concern that should the buses be reintroduced, people would ignore it as the train is still the fastest way to and fro the city centre. vid in reference: ua-cam.com/users/shortsa7g41jCoR9Y
actually i don't necessarily think road network expansion would affect that much train (may) be fastest in several cases but realistically no one wants to squeeze unless they are in a mad rush - the key is doorstep bus service (which is what the express / cityshopper / city direct services are intended to provide) and also the fare for such bus services shouldn't be sky high else it would discourage pax from using them

I think you should livestream some of these commentary. I think it will be a lot fun and you might actually get Superchats

2:52 the way this is being articulated sounds more like you’re being frustrated over the CDS spam
in general
CDS is good
but the way they're routing them lowkey
doesn't sit well with most of us LOL
lmao the broken sentences are so funny even though the topic isn't
3:13 666 got left out
thank
cos legit premium 591 is superior to svc666
to the point where i keep forgetting it exists when recalling bus routes
I’m potentially seeing the same problem with west side of EWL in the future
and yet people say CRL3 would solve EWL's issues
no it won't
they need more buses that have the same concept as 99 and 185 (or 180 974)

they got no actual bus expertise planning the bus routes, all $$$
