India is not growing at 6.3%. It's growing at 7.5%
What a massive and beautiful airport it really is! Hope it works out for Cambodia!
Loads of bullshit. Cambodia is miles far away from Singapore
We already know how rich singapore is 😂@@lesteryoutube9501
It's unrealistic to compare Cambodia to Singapore. Maybe next Thailand. Cambodia faces numerous fundamental challenges that cannot be solved simply by building an airport or improving infrastructure. These issues must be addressed before Cambodia can aspire to reach a fraction of Singapore's level of development.
@@GradientHeavensdid Cambodia do something to hurt you? What made you so mad at them? Instead of talking down on other countries be optimistic for them.
@@GradientHeavens dude, go to see something about Kun Khmer in Angkor Wat's wall. Do you think Thailand, Siam or fake Muay Thai any of them was hatched before Angkor building? Don't be so primitive, animal. 😂😂😂

Singapore is rich because of more than just an airport and ambition, there's strong rule of law, low corruption, transparency. Cambodia, not so much.
Singapore is just lucky to be on the straits of Malacca.

Let Comboya live its fantasy.
@@Johnne009 Also a British port like Hong Kong, both have extraordinary development under the British or British influence
Singapore is a third world dictatorship. “Rich” relative to other poor countries, it’s not on the same level as the USA, Japan, EU.
I hope it goes really well for Cambodia! Love from Singapore!
Thanks mate, but as a Khmer, we know Cambodia will never be like Singapore, the country is still very poor and the Khmer-Cambodian are trying to develop their country while restoring its glory day by day. Singapore is always top notch.
I'm a Khmer but not Cambodian, we are native Khmer people in Mekong delta Vn.
@KhomAsian it's true. it can't be like Singapore. Singapore is more richer than Cambodia. But it good for Cambodia for it growth but it will not be like Singapore. even tho I'm Cambodian I'm not saying that it bad or good. It our country and culture.

@@KhomAsianYes, know your place, SEAmonkey. There can only be one Singapore.
Shut up, it wont.
Crazy how $1.5Bn can get you an entire airport, meanwhile 4x that price and you barely even get one (highly dysfunctional) terminal here in the UK
In Boston USA, $15billion only built a 2km tunnel. That was 2004!
Don’t feel bad lad. There are greater fools in the world. Australia will be paying $300 billion plus for half a dozen submarines to fight an imaginary enemy.
In Vietnam, the airport cost 2x the cost and much uglier. Try to search for Long Thanh airport, so far behind even they planned it years ahead
The new airport is being built by China so it will be built on time and under budget.
Construction cost is so cheap in Cambodia due to cheaper labour costs and low import costs of construction materials and close proximity to suppliers such as China and East Asia.
I love this channel so much.
Construction is awesome.
Keep up the amazing work.
Go for it Cambodia! Supporting your progress from Singapore 😊
Will be interesting to check how the airport is connected to the city, the public transportation will be a key point for the economy
At start only a road. Bus line being the only public transit option. But in future tram / light rail and toll expressway.
Very true. All major airports have a dedicated train line to the city centre. Cambodia has yet to build such. I expect it will be part of the infrastructure plans.
@@Cake... I hope so because if the alternative is tuk tuk (which I love) with all the people planned to use that airport, it's not a great solution
Wishing the best for Cambodia 🇰🇭 from India 🇮🇳 🙏
No well designed public transportation = NOT the next Singapore.
After the first MRT stations opened in 1987, Singapore never stopped building and opening new subway and commuter railway lines.
singapore for ages had no public transport. the first line of the mrt only opened with just 5 stations in 1987
@@electro_sykesit had no need to before, population density wasn’t enough to justify it
@@electro_sykes It always has had a very extensive and extremely good public bus systems though, even far back during the post WW2 era. But I concur, they were way too late in having a functional urban rail if we measure that by its GDP per capita. Their first MRT operated when their GDP per capita was around USD10000 - for comparison many developing countries usually have had one at a third or in some cases even less than that economic level. They could've been having one in 1970s like that of Hong Kong had they been not overly confident with that bus system.
If we put the same metric on Cambodia (assuming its economic growth trajectory is constant), it won't have any metros until 2040s or even 2050s lol.
@@lontongstroong I mean buses are damn effective too, but really you need both to work. Buses to feed into the rail system. A BRT system could also work too. its not mode vs mode but rather, all modes need to interconnect to make it work. Even cars and motor scooters have a part to play.
Cambodia has been through so much.. Here's to wishing the best for the future of the state with this project ❤
most colonised nations have been struggling to this day blame the europeans. When they stopped colonising they installed worst economic models on this nation so they wont get out of debt

Many formerly colonized nations continue to face challenges today, with some attributing their economic struggles to the legacy of colonialism. After the colonial era ended, certain economic systems and policies were implemented that some argue have made it difficult for these countries to fully recover and develop.

One problem - Cambodia doesn't have a big national airline with the fleet or capacity to connect wider regions. If they really aim to emulate Dubai or Singapore by 2050, then this is one thing they'll really have to invest into.
How Cambodia could have a big national airline before Cambodia could dream big? :) Only time will tell... it is too earlier to judge.
everything is built by china! the announced numbers about cambodia's capacity are a huge question mark :)) anyway i still hope that their people are taken care of more than big projects that fall into debt traps
Agreed. Singapore, Qatar, Hong Kong and the UAE all had well respected international airlines before they built their massive hub airports. Cambodia doesn't have one (yet). They will need to really push hard with their airline/s to compete against these giants. Also Hong Kong had a strong finance industry and the middle east had oil money. Not too sure about Singapore, but I know my Dad travelled there for work back in the 80s, so has been a serious business destination for a long time.

And here in the UK apparently we're too poor to build a few hundred miles of rail lines....😂 What a horrible mismanagement of our money by these constantly greedy self-serving politicians
You already have modern infrastructure when others are catching up
@@varoonnone7159 The modern infrastructure sucks compared to other developed countries.
Yeah, Italy has built more than 3 times the length of hs2 so far. Through a country just as densley populated, but also covered in mountains!
@@Hession0Drasha But their network was pretty poor historically. They have been playing catch up and only recently overtaking us. We have more legacy rail infrastructure (per square mile) than pretty much any other country, because we got their first. Our system seems "bad" because it's old, whereas other countries had nothing, and only now are they building brand new stuff where nothing previously existed. It's not easy to make a direct comparison. We are probably most similar to a country like Germany, and they have similar issues with building high speed lines (although they are still better at it than us).
@@TAmzid2872
You've clearly never been to other developed countries
I get that some people may criticize Cambodia’s progress, but it’s important to see the big steps the country is taking toward development. Cambodia has worked hard to improve its infrastructure, governance, and business environment. While there are still challenges, the progress is real and undeniable. With that in mind, Techo International Airport is a major part of this transformation. It’s not just another project, it represents Cambodia’s ambition to expand tourism, attract international investment, and strengthen global connections. This airport could be a key driver of sustainable economic growth and help raise Cambodia’s profile on the global stage.

What a building 👌
I don't know if I missed it but what would the temperature be where the humans are? If it was -10°F that would make it 94°F, still a pretty miserable temperature. Anyways good for the environment!
Been keeping track of this building for years now. I remember the renders back 6 years ago before my daughter was born. It look similar to the one in China.
@@realfoggy what does that even mean?

As a Singaporean living in Cambodia for the past five years, I don’t believe Phnom Penh should strive to become a "Singapore." Each city has its own identity, and Phnom Penh is rich in character and essence that makes it truly unique. I'm optimistic about the direction things are heading. We have the opportunity to create something new and make a name for ourselves here. There’s plenty of space and potential for growth. Sure, the journey may be bumpy, but I truly believe it will be worth it. 🇰🇭🇸🇬

Techo International Airport, once completed, will play a key role in boosting Cambodia's economy. It will enhance tourism by attracting more international visitors, provide employment opportunities in construction, aviation, and hospitality, and improve infrastructure and regional connectivity. The airport will also facilitate trade and investment, making Cambodia more accessible for global business, and helping to grow sectors like export, logistics, and services. This development will position Cambodia as a stronger regional hub, contributing to long-term economic growth and prosperity.

Kampuchea is forging its own path. Are there things it can learn from other countries? Of course, including Singapore. With this new airport Kampuchea is hoping to fuel the growth of its economy by providing a world class facility. The country needs it.
Seeing the thumbnail photos for this story, my initial impression was how much this reminded me of New York's Penn Station (1910-63).
As a Cambodian, the title is misleading. Cambodia is a developing country and have been growing. But will take some time to reached to Singapore level!
Cambodia has huge tourism and business potential given its location and interesting history from Angkor Wat to the Khmer Rouge.
Phnom Penh is an amazing city, very fast growing economy.
Let’s be optimistic and grow tgt SEA 😊
I first went to Cambodia in 2011 and the difference from then to now is crazy. Still a poor country but far more developed than it was. You can visibly see the improvements in so many ways.
Such a friendly country too. They'll do well one way or another because of this
Cambodia went through one of its darkest times between 1975 and 1979, with nearly 3 million lives lost to genocide. Even though the country has faced enormous challenges and hardships, its people have never stopped pushing forward. Over the past few years, Cambodia has been developing rapidly, and I believe this project will create even more opportunities, especially in tourism, helping boost the economy. There’s a real sense that brighter days are ahead for this kingdom.
You're right !
Nowadays, Cambodia can hire bright minds on the international talent market who co-create the future of the country. No need to depend on in-house talent only. Japan must be eagerly ready to dig a tunnel for an express trainline from and to the airport. It may cost another billion actually. But why not?

Very odd addition
Just to add for better context: Cambodia recently opened the new Siem Reap Airport.
Also hoping that there will be better city-to-airport link with this one - the motorway connecting the current Phnom Penh Airport and the city is always congested...
That's why I hopped the local bus and relaxed until I saw the river . The new Siem Reap airport is WAY too far out of town . It was built by and for Chinese purposes
@0:30 conveniently leave out singapore to male cambodia the fastest growing economy in southeast asia
I recognize the scale and national hopes are quite different than this video’s subject, but the rebuilt terminal at Portland International Airport (PDX) is a really interesting architectural and construction story. Kind of surprised B1M hasn’t covered it.
Projects in the USA seem to be an afterthought in video reviews, at least when it comes to the flashy stuff. USA's few % GDP growth is still more construction building than these nations at full clip, due to sheer size alone. I guess it's considered rather ordinary here, where it's a big deal in a nation that was 50 years ago going through ethnic cleansing. Just the nature of it i suppose. I find stuff in the USA to be more interesting, these videos are cool but they're kind of thin on details so not really missing out on much tbh.
from what I searched
the word Techo in their local language refers to a person with high societal rank especially in the army.
If you wonder why everything is named Techo in the country, think of it as the “Turkmenbashi” but instead of Turkmenistan, it’s south east asia instead.
In front of my home theres also a bridge under construction in Cambodia
Can someone explain how did Macao grew 27% in a single year?! 😮 that's crazy!
Tax evasion and legal casino where the house (i.e. the city) always wins.
shady bussiness
Macau's main income comes from all the taxes that the casinos pay. During the pandemic Macau closed its borders and the casinos basically went into limp mode. Meaning the the economy practically collapsed in Macau. Though the government had such a large stack of money that they kept people in the country* happy with stimulus packages and yearly pay outs of money. This meant of course that the economy on paper collapsed even more. Though after Macau opened again to the rest of the world the economy quite quickly jumped back into high gear. Tourists are flowing back into Macau now and therefore the tax dollars to the government is also flowing back in again. Basically the economy of Macau is simply returning to where it should be and quickly. Therefore the 27% increase. It will slow down as soon as the economy more or less gets back to the 2019 level and returns to normal growth.
CHINESE MONEY 🤑🤑🤑
Odoo might be helpful, Fred, i'm going for a look-see in a bit. I appreciate the tip and the discount!
Is that not going to be the greatest airport, or what?
They just finished expanding PDX, Portland Oregon with a similar appearance. This is wood country in the Pacific Northwest. They named Portland "Stumptown" for that very reason. The big treat here was watching them fit an oculus in the center court as people will enter the airport. It is an amazing thing to watch the effect of natural building materials, light coming in filtered through trees and native plantings that just chills people out.
Your show was great, as always. I hope you will get a chance to crawl in and around more of the construction of this project. It looks interesting as all hell! The ventilation system looks real interesting. Global warming is affecting us, too. All of us need to be proactive, not reactive to make all this work. Last summer we got far more than usual days that were over 30 C Our low temperature through January this year was -8C. After that experience, my plans to retrofit the house with multiple fuel types went from idle curiosity to serious planning.
I wonder if people can make the connection between how all of the resources available in modern construct is spinning faster and faster, taking every step quicker and quicker, like everything else in our lives. We haven't a clue where all of this is taking us. The thrill of all of this change on many levels, is we do not have the hindsight that we will attain after the fact. It is like every other step we have taken, different, some things that can be solved intuitively, but more and more, having to give deep consideration of how each move we make, affects another. You're the best, Fred.
*THE airport has barely much to do with the Singapore’s prosperity.*
The chap is mistaken about this. The regular port has lots to do with it. The raise of manufacturing in China and other neighbours has made Singapore rich.

Its nice to see Cambodia making an effort to further improve its country in the economy sector but to compare it to the level of Singapore? Now that's too huge of a margin...I doubt Cambodia can ever reach the level of success Singapore is at. The effort Singapore put in is phenomenal to get where it is today, and an airport being built definitely will not change anything if its compared to Singapore
As a cambodian myself, i would say that the title is just "too much." Cambodia still have a long way to go to be fully developed like those of neighbouring countries, let alone singapore. But I must say that Cambodia nowadays strives to improve and develop as much as it can, and you can see that if compared to 10 20 years ago, Cambodia is way better now.
