Couldn’t have done it without you....MAHALO!!!
Glad I could help! 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Great video Roy, thank you for well and easy explanation. God bless!
Thanks for the great video, it's the best one I've seen for this fix. Most guys don't cover little things like: pressing the tab on the electrical connector, using dielectric grease, judging belt tension, etc.. It's really important to know what type of connector you're working with when it's hard to see.
Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Aloha. I was just trying to figure out how to remove the cables connected to the alternator without damaging anything since I am replacing the various battery cables. Your video covered part of that and reduced the stress of the job. Thanks!
Awesome a Local boy from Hawaii, as a Former kamaaina it’s nice to hear. My alternator has got the dreaded pig squeal. I’m gonna be tackling this alt replacement among many other maintenance and repairs on my ToTaco so trying to get the benefit of your expertise. Mahalo
i have a 1997 tacoma, and its just about the same steps, but upside-down. helped a lot in the places i got stuck on myself
Thank you for the info, I just replaced an autozone one with a lifetime warranty for the second time in two years yesterday. Gonna get a denso one and use the autozone one as a back up…
With Toyota’s, always Denso. They manufacture for Toyota’s, so buying a Denso is like buying the exact same original part. Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
My little 1998 Toyota Tacoma had the belt tensioner bracket on top of the alternator and it was somewhat easy to take off weasling it down below and replacing it from inserting a new one again from underneath. It's a 2.4 L so maybe a different T tacoma than videoed here.
I will be replacing the alternator this weekend on my 2000 Toyota Tacoma,I must have watched your video at least 12 times.
Let me know how it goes and thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Nice video Mr. Roy's Garage.
Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I started pulling out the alternator in my 95 Tacoma by pulling out the top bolt and the bottom nut but it wasn't coming loose so I had to give up for the night so I could look this one up. I found and watch your video and saw that you had loosened and removed the adjusting bolt in back. I did not see or know of the adjusting bolt. Thank you for your video.
I just got the new alternator in but had trouble with the plug clip. You said to push the tab in then remove the plug. It seems my plug clip is ass backwards. The clip broke off but found that I had to pull the clip out instead of pushing the clip in. I had to pull (or pry with a small flat blade screwdriver) on what was left of the clip.
Here is a question... been having a problem with the 10A fuse in the left side dash fuse box which seems to blow when I put it in reverse but just noticed that when I was testing the voltage of the battery and alternator( with truck off and engine running ), I only had 12 volts engine off AND engine running until I put a new 10A fuse in. As soon as I put a new 10A fuse in I noticed a decrease in engine idle. When I tested the battery voltage again I had 14.5. Does this seem common knowledge for a blown 10A fuse to prevent the alternator from charging ?
Great camera work. Thank you for the detailed instruction.
Much mahalo Roy!
Best video I've seen on this topic so far.Very well explained.Thank you!
Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I agree,
I'm assuming the VOLTAGE REGULATOR is part of the original alternator and comes as part of the new one?
you da man Roy!
Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thank you for this video, my alternator died on me on the way home today in negative temperatures and I had no idea what to do to get it out, but with this video i'll be set to take it on tomorrow and get 'er up and running again. Much appreciated!
Glad I could help, tell me how it goes. Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Its funny, those "Pinch clips" always morph into "Busted clips" whenever I work on my vehicle.
Good job Hawaiian !"
Well done "
Great video! Just replaced mine in about an hour. Thanks a bunch for the detailed instructions and getting straight to the point.
Good video Roy. Is the replacement on the 1998 same for all Gen1 Tacomas (1995-2004) with 3.4L? Also where does that "L" shape adjustment bolt attach to under the alternator? Thanks
Sorry for the late reply. I would like to say that it applies to all gen1 Tacoma’s because that’s usually the case but I’m not 100% sure unless I see the car myself as I’ve seen some (very little) variations before on other vehicles (like where the oil filter is and what not). As for the “L” shape bolt, it’s hard to see in the videos and to describe but the best I can tell you is that one side will bolt into the engine and the other to the bottom of the alternator. I hope that answers your questions. Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
@@RoysGarage808 Thank you Roy. Just curious where is your business located?
@@hscic2647 the 808 state!
@@RoysGarage808 The reason I asked is because I search for your business and only came up with Roy's Kalihi Auto Center & Roy's Auto Glass....oh well. Thanks
On the bracket there is a cut out where the adjustment bolt sits in .I just did mine and it save me $532 from a shop.
Awesome and very helpful video, just did alternator in 2001 Toyota Tacoma! God bless in Jesus name
Just finished installing an alternator on my 1998 Toyota Tacoma 2.4L
Your video helped. Mine was a little different but your video gave me the gist. Thanks for the tutorial.
Video served its purpose! Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks
i'm having trouble loosening the top alternator bolt. it's so tight not even a breaker bar can loosen it. any advice on how to loosen it?
I used a 1/2in pipe and inserted my wrench and had to put a lot of force into it, similar to a break bar. Try the pipe idea, hopefully it’ll work. Let me know how it goes, and thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Thanks, I have a '97 taco w 3.4v6. I sense the alternator has finally gone, at a minimum dead battery and battery idiot lite has been on. Thanks for the thorough info here!
Hi Roy, great tutorial. Mine is charging fine but it appears the bearing is ready to go. I can not find a denso alternator that is not a rebuilt. What do you think of one made by Bosch?
It's such a bad design to have the oil intake right over the alternator. Oil has killed two of mine
Thanks, I have a '97 taco and your video was the most helpful. Successful!
Thank you! You just saved me half a day of doing it the hard way!
Thank you for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Nice and simple. Mahalo Unko from Oregon with 1999🤙🙏
Just did this repair on my 03 tacoma, thanks for your guidance!
Thanks Roy it took me a while to change the alternator,it wasn’t a denso couldn’t afford it.While changing the alternator you were right there. And a friend of mine he was in colo. He used to have a shop in Kona .
My alternator on my 2000 tacoma went bad but i never had my light go on?

This is by far the best video out there! every other video has you removing the skid plate to access the adjustment bolt from the bottom, this is great thank you!
Fantastic video sir.
Thanks for watching 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
Can this be transferred to my 04 Tacoma 2.7 liter 5 speed
I’m not 100% sure but if it looks the same then it should be the same.
