My 1997 ‘Runner has 307K miles and runs likes a fine clock. Bought it here in GA back in 1999 with mileage @ 32K and is still generally in excellent condition with no rust whatsoever. One of the very best purchases of al time since on this green Earth. Really appreciate the tutorial. Great job!
I just bought a 2002 4Runner and I have no idea what I'm doing. Watching your videos gave me the confidence to start off with replacing the spark plugs, wires and ignition coils. I just wanted to say thank you. I think you're so awesome, and if you were local I would 1000% go to any classes you offered. I WISH I had friends to hang out with at 1am on a Saturday morning wrenching on our Yotas! lol. I really appreciate your videos, Thank you so much!!
Faye certainly wish I would have seen this video before I attempted to remove and replace the alternator on my 97 4Runner this project was definitely up there with one of the worst ever I accidentally removed the oil dipstick bottom tube none of the videos were clear and concise with good lighting now I have to go back and replace the belts I accidentally dropped one of the long bolts down on top of the skid plate which I had to remove I give mechanics like you a lot of respect cuz they can do this day and and day out keep up the good work I really appreciate everything you do to show others
I've watched a bunch of videos about doing this job, and this video is BY FAR the best. Even with using your phone to make the video. Better than the one on TacomaWorld forum. Good job.
Your generation 4runner is quite literally the most reliable vehicle ever made. Sadly, here in Ohio they are almost all lost to the local salt truck. A guy that works for me has a 1997 with 386k miles, rusty patched frame (ohio salt), all original ball joints still good, perfect engine, perfect trans and nothing else wrong. Not even a check engine light.
HA! (I know this an old vid) but I got an 97 taco 2.4....5 speed manual, has close to 400k with OEM clutch and trans! She has killed 4 deer here in GA! I've replaced 2 radiator support brackets (other 2 I just bent straight) 4 radiators, 4 AC condensers, 4 grille, bumpers, lights etc etc and she still runs! She cranks up every time so I can drive her on the trailer to bring back home! One helluva truck!!
I have been search for videos on this Toyota 5VZ (3.4L V6) engines and this is so far the best video tutorial I have ever seen. Really clear and enunciating. No shaky camera or noisy background. Also I very much appreciate you taking off some parts, such as the upper radiator hose and the sensor connector, only for good quality filming. Thank you!
Faye, you are such a rock star. You are so funny with your chicken. And you're so informative, thank you for helping me once again. With my Toyota forerunner, you go, girl.
Thanks for the information. I was reading about the guy from Ohio who spoke of our state losing many of these to rust. I agree. I picked up a 3rd gen 4runner that needed mostly brake and suspension work with hardly any rust. I didn't have to pay a premium and it was my oldest son's first vehicle. He loves it. The next video on the list will be the timing belt change. I appreciate your efforts in making the videos easy and fun to watch. I myself just picked up a 2005 Sequoia and apart from the usual issues I am very pleased with it, as with all my Toyotas. I look forward to catching more of you.
Aww thank you!!!! 😀 But... You own a VW, and so do I... And a couple very engines, so maybe eventually I'll make some videos that apply to you!!!! .....maybe!!!
I just want to say thank you for this video. This was the only video I found that covered all 3 belts in one video for this engine. Your video was very easy to follow, the best was you really remind me of my daughter who is also a shade tree mechanic (like her dad). Thanks again!.
Hey Faye. I know that this video was done a while ago. But I was working on my sisters Toyota 4 Runner and didn't know how to take them off. Thanks for doing this video. It helped SO much. Thanks again.
Thank you for the straight forward in depth video, it covered a lot of things the other videos left out. Great job! I was able to get this done on my rusty '01 Tacoma with my cheap costco tool kit no problem!
Thank you so much for the video. I did all three today and it wasn’t bad. Really made it easy to see what things look like and I appreciate that. Great camera angles. My check engine light went out after replacing the belts.
Thank you for the video. Just completed daughter’s 2000 SR5. One thing I did was unscrew airbox and left up and back. Otherwise could not get good attack vector on steering pump tensioner screw.
You and Chicken make it seem like a relaxin good time not like the Murphy’s law scenario nightmare I always encounter when doing auto maintenance. Thank you
I needed a refresher and I couldn’t find any videos with great footage with step-by-step R&R on other channels. Stumbled upon this video and I’m so thankful for your close detail and walk throughs. Just subscribed 👍🏼
Thx Faye, very good job on this video! I like the way you remove a few extra parts for filming clarity and let everyone know that's why for ease of repair. Excellent!!!
The camera's not shaking, the lighting is perfect, you are very detailed with the explanations and there are chickens! Great video! I've watched a few other vids on changing belts on Tacoma's but this one is the clearest. Hope you have one on changing the timing belt/water pump. EDIT: You do, nice!
getting ready to replace my belts this weekend...glad i watched ur video...the first one i checked out showed also disconnecting the fan and you made it look super easy to slip those around and out.... 04 taco
Hey Faye just saw you on the news! Glad to see that you and you’re business are becoming successful! Fellow San Antonian here myself/tech @ Toyota dealership. Keep up the hard work!
That was terrific. The best one yet. I had a bad idler pulley and put a new belt on and bingo ......fried! It seized and I could smell the burnt belt. Tensioning has been tricky though? I love the auto tensioners and it's been one of the first vehicles i've had without it.
LORD! I am In-Love! With that Chicken! He stole the show! lol More of the Chicken Please! Great Videos and you have saved me a Ton of money by teaching me how to work on my 'Yota 4!
Thank you so much Faye, your video is best of all, very clear.. I look no further, my 2003 (3.4L V6 engine @125K) belts start getting noise, I will try to replace them. I also need to see your vid of how to check the tension of these belts after. Thanks
Great video! That power steering adjustment bolt was trouble to get to.. I had to come from the bottom and thought I got my hand stuck a few times... whew! Thanks, couldn’t have done it without your help.
Nice work, just stumbled on ur channel. Gotta do my timing belt on the 3.4 too. Looks like you got urs done. Shooting videos of working on cars definitely can test ur patience. Nice job 😁✌
You make everyone else look like idiots Faye! Thank you for being so clear, detailed and complete about the steps to accomplish this deceptively difficult task. I just failed at my first attempt to remove the power steering belt because the other DIY vids suck. I also didn't think I could get to the hex head for the tensioner screw because of the hard aluminum A/C line in front of it (ARGH) but you make it seem easy! Feeling very fortunate that I found YOUR video because now, I feel confident that I can accomplish the task. Thanks again, you ROCK Faye! BTW, love the chickens. EDIT: Just a safety point. Remember to remove ALL jewelry when working on your vehicle. I've seen what happens to body parts when something like a ring or watch gets caught by the wrong thing and wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. My 2-cents...
Whattttt !!!!! It's my favorite female mechanic..... Sooo I'm working on the same n I like studying before I do something even simple n here u have one how awesome!?! I'm glad it's u I get to learn how to do with you
Thank you Faye for the informative and entertaining video! It made a job I wasn’t looking forward to doing alot better! I live in Ohio (salt city)😢 but thanks to your clear video work I can see many parts better. 😊 tell chicken hi! Thanks again
Why are you removing the adjustment bolt and slider for the alternator just to replace the belt ? Doesn't the bolt/ slider travel far enough to pull the belt ?
great video. couple things i ran into: the tensioner on the power steering bracket is a bear to get to. Under neath was best. Don,t go at it with out a ratcheting wrench!! Same thing with the stuck tensioner on the AC idler pulley. Once you loosen the nut on the front and make some room by backing out the tensioner nut, you have to tap it up a couple inches to get the belt on. Tensioner was stuck on mine too. The old truck has AC again. Woohoooo!! Thanks
That creeped me out so much I thought that was a black cat 😂. Your video quality gets better and better every time I watch keep up the good work I can tell you’re editing skills are getting up there. Pretty soon you’re channel will be a forced to be reckoned. If you can do a video of the timing chain and water pump I’d appreciate it. They’re do at around every 80 or 90 k miles
Great video. When I did mine, the AC tension bolt snapped off (living in the rust belt) and I had to put it back together temporarily without that belt. No big issue as I didn't need AC in the fall, but what a task trying to find JUST the tensioner flange piece- Toyota would only sell the entire assembly, and scrapyards in the rust belt aren't much help for parts like that. I eventually did find a Toyota dealer who would sell just the flange but it cost over $50 with shipping. I think there's a market opportunity for someone in the southern areas to strip wrecks at scrapyards for parts like these.
OH MY GOSH!!! HAHAHA I don't know if I will ever be on the same level as Daisy when it comes to hairdos!! Thank you so much, I am so glad you're here :)
1:30 on a Saturday morning, wrenching with your pet watching over you... My kinda night! Think the chicken was saying, "Knock those moths down here Mom, bet they taste good!" lol! Great video!
Thank you so much. Really helped me out. I found I was able to access the water pump belt tensioner from the passenger wheel well and a 9’’ Extension although a 12’’ Would have ideal.
Very helpful video. My alternator belt snapped recently after being new last year. Hopefully it was defective. And not something I did. Time will tell.
First vid of yours I’ve ever seen 😳 Great job !! Your lighting and camera skills really helped me out Athankya 😊 Hi little chicken 🐥❤️ Wanna do plugs and coils with me sometime ? Same engine, 2000 4Runner 😁

I just want to say thank you. We bought my wife a 1996 Toyota 4Runner to restore and your videos have came in handy. Keep doing what your doing.
I just bought a 2002 4Runner and I have no idea what I'm doing. Watching your videos gave me the confidence to start off with replacing the spark plugs, wires and ignition coils. I like the sound of your voice, it helps reduce the stress of learning something you’ve never done before.
Great attitude! Keep up the excellent work!
I've watched a bunch of videos about doing this job, and this video is BY FAR the best. Even with using your phone to make the video. Better than the one on TacomaWorld forum. Good job.
Thank you so much!!!🙏🏻 Haha maybe Tacoma world needs this one on the forum 😅💜
Just found this channel, nice to say a rad lady doing car repairs on youtube, hope you inspire others!
I have a jeep and work on it all the time. This was the first time working on a Toyota and you saved me so much time. You have a new subscriber!!!
Welcome!! Thank you so much!
I just worked a 16 hour shift and my PS belt snapped on the way home, your video just made my day.
Your generation 4runner is quite literally the most reliable vehicle ever made. Sadly, here in Ohio they are almost all lost to the local salt truck. Oh yeah, I believe it!! A lot of my family lives in the new England area, and you don't see many older cars out on the street. It's a real tragedy!!
They are, second to the Land Cruisers, the best trucks on this earth.
HA! (I know this an old vid) but I got an 97 taco 2.4....5 speed manual, has close to 400k with OEM clutch and trans! She has killed 4 deer here in GA! Are you serious, Timmy the tool man?…….
You have a talent for making this job look really easy and stress-free!
Idk why I check other videos first. Everytime I come to your videos shit gets 1000x simpler
Awww, thank you!!
Faye, you are such a rock star. You are so funny with your chicken. And you're so informative, thank you for helping me once again. With my Toyota forerunner, you go, girl.
Love how your nuts & bolts come off so easy.

Thanks for showing that the belts can actually go around the fan without removing fan. This is what I wanted to know. 👍
I get a kick out of the high speed sections when your still talking it cracks me up. Love the videos and I don't even own a Toyota ;-)
Aww thank you!!!! 😀 But... You own a VW, and so do I... And a couple very engines, so maybe eventually I'll make some videos that apply to you!!!! .....maybe!!!

Thank you for the video. Just completed daughter’s 2000 SR5. One thing I did was unscrew airbox and left up and back. Otherwise could not get good attack vector on steering pump tensioner screw.
Understood! I have these scrawny little stick arms that make accessing most things pretty easy :)
You and Chicken make it seem like a relaxin good time not like the Murphy’s law scenario nightmare I always encounter when doing auto maintenance. Thank you
Haha no problem 😂

Hey Faye just saw you on the news! Glad to see that you and you’re business are becoming successful! Fellow San Antonian here myself/tech @ Toyota dealership. Keep up the hard work!
YAY!!! I am so glad. And hi fellow Toyota tech! :)
Best video I've come across for this repair - thank you for making this video!
Nice to seeing a lady work on a car. Thank you this was very helpful!

I also need to do the drive belts and spark plugs on my 01 t4r.
Keep up the good work!
I remember doing this job for the first time. Thought i had to do a lot more than required. Now I can bang this job out in 30 minutes.
LORD! I am In-Love! With that Chicken! He stole the show! lol More of the Chicken Please! Great Videos and you have saved me a Ton of money by teaching me how to work on my 'Yota 4!
Thank you Faye for helping me do this.. toyota newbie (99 tacoma) and this made the job simple..

you're the best faye. Just what I was looking for to fix my toyota prado belts!
Good old cars where you can get to things without needing an engineering degree and a magic wand
These belts are ass and knucklebusters to work on. This engineering is made for small engine bays.
Don't make it sound pretty lol.
You make everyone else look like idiots Faye! Thank you for being so clear, detailed and complete about the steps to accomplish this deceptively difficult task. Very helpful video. My alternator belt snapped recently after being new last year. Hopefully it was defective. And not something I did. Time will tell.

9:24 What's that behind you, against the wall, over your left shoulder, is that a drip feed? I've had my share of them lately, I'm having nightmares!
Gotta Love Doorman Specs!!
Haha yep!! 🤣
I would avoid Dorman products. I have heard nothing but horror stories with regard to their products.
Keep wrenching Faye! 🇨🇦👍🏻
Do you have a video on how to remove your ac compressor from a 3.4 engine
I'm just subscribed for the great how to videos.
GREAT!!
Great Video 👌🏼 thanks 😊
