- You might be thinking that you can only paint on fondant covered cakes, but that's just not true. The key is to start with a cold cake!
To help you get the best looking painted cakes, I've made this video to compare two different types of paint:
Edible Art paints and a DIY paint made with gel food coloring and alcohol.
In this video the cake I'm painting is frosted with Italian Meringue Buttercream, recipe and video linked below:

Incredibly beautiful! It looks like you are painting on a canvas but it’s on delicious buttercream! I will definitely try this. Thank you for sharing - you are a true artist.
SO BEAUTIFUL! 😩❤️
Thank you. Great tips. You are very creative. I'm going to give it a try. ❤
Thank you so much for making this comprehensive video! Just starting to look into cake painting and this was super super helpful. I've saved to a playlist because Im sure I'll come back to this video. Thank you ✨✨
Yay! Happy you found it helpful. Cake painting is so much fun, good luck with your cakes!
Ohhh my GOD i seach videos like this a looot
Thank u
You are so talented!! Beautiful cake!
Muchas gracias por los subtítulos en español.
Thank you 😍😍😍
The art paint looks like a guache and the diy gel paint looks like watercolor. As an artist getting into cake making i like both effects for different things.
To thicken up your diy paint, add some white gel food color... works great
Thank you ♥️
Thank you
Hi...great job! I have a question...can condensation smudge the painting?
Gorgeous!! Can lemon extract be used with the gel food color instead of Everclear?
Hi. This is beautiful. Must it be alcohol. What if there isn’t alcohol. Can vinegar be used?
This is such a gorgeous cake and amazing techniques! Thank you for sharing!
Just wondering though if the colours bleed after being out of the fridge (caused by the condensation)?
Thank you! The Edible Arts Paint do not bleed at all. The DIY gel color paints bleed a little bit, but you can see it right away. I haven't seen it get worse over time.
Baking Butterly Love thank you so much for the reply!! Looking forward to more videos from you!
Can u use poppy paint?
Muchas felicidades x tu trabajo, esta ermoso , soy principiante, apenas aprendiendo, y aqui me quedo en tu canal, solo quisiera saber es chantilli? Ho de mantequilla?

@@BakingButterlyLove gracias x contestar
Great lesson but can you loose the music?? Hard to understand you!
What is the taste comparison between the 2?
Could I use lemon juice instead of alcohol?
can i use lemon juice
How about a watercolor effect with the gel paints?
The gel paints are a great way to create a watercolor effect!
How did you find the flavor for the edible art. It did not leave a good flavor to me ?
I think the flavor isn't noticeable unless you use too much of it. I was using a pretty thin layer of paint on this cake, so you couldn't taste the paint at all through the flavor of the buttercream.
I've heard that the food color can impact the taste of your buttercream and it's not a pleasant taste? Especially when you're painting it on and it's more concentrated on certain areas?
Yes food coloring can definitely have an unpleasant taste, especially reds and blacks! The amount of food coloring you need for this technique is so little though, I've never noticed the taste. It looks like a lot, but in reality it's only a super thin layer of color.
That being said, I would be careful with reds, black and darker colors on delicate flavors like vanilla. I've also found that certain brands are more likely to have that unpleasant taste. Americolor is my favorite brand by far.
Amazing 😍what buttercream do you used?
Thank you! This cake was done with Italian meringue buttercream.
@@BakingButterlyLove hi, can we paint on Swiss meringue buttercream?
How can i use with gel ?? No alcohool please
You can try using a tiny bit of water to thin the gel color, it just won't dry as quickly!
You can also try it with lemon juice 😊
Lemon extract or rose water. Also, alcohol dries quickly so you wouldn't taste it and safe for children to consume.
Can we paint on a whipped cream?
Hi sorry I missed your comment! This would probably not work on whipped cream as it's too soft.
Baking Butterly Love thank you for replying 😊❤️👍🏻
what kind of buttercream?
There's a link for the buttercream in the description 😄
The plastic used in your pallet is not food grade. You are mixing toxic chemicals into your otherwise non-toxic paint. There are food grade plastics available in the packaging that comes with your food.
