If you look at how Michael Gambon plays Dumbledore and how Jude Law plays him, Jude law is really acting out as a younger version of him, his gestures, mannerisms and the way he speaks, just as Michael Gambon preformed it. Really brilliant work.
While Richard Harris did a great job portraying Dumbledore, I think Jude Law and Michael Gambon could play him just a little bit better. With Harris, Dumbledore was pretty much always calm and peaceful, so much so that you couldn't tell he had a dark history. Jude and Michael can also play him that way, it seems like Dumbledore is really in control of everything and always stays calm, but with their version you can just notice that Dumbledore is also in pain sometimes.
Kudos to Callum Turner (Theseus) for resisting the urge to try to do too much in this scene. His reserved performance is all in the posture, and in his eyes. He had the wisdom to let his character's caution play against Jude Law's intensity n' pent up emotions. Well played, sir.
I agree I love how Callum Turner played Theseus in this scene. But I don't think Jude Law was being too much. This was a painful part of Dumbledore's past that he was talking about so I think it is reasonable for him to react that way.
Bruh, when an actor shows emotion then it's taken away from the viewers. It's in the restraint of emotions where viewers start to feel it as well. For all the praise you've given him in your comment, all it really says is him not being a garbage of an actor - something that's unfortunately has gotten quite common for some reason.
@@edmis90 You have a very insane idea of what an actor is supposed to do and how people react to emotions. They portray a character, and act in the way that character would as a person. Personally, I watch movies for the story, not to be manipulated into having a reaction to stimuli causing chemicals to be released in my brain. Which is all emotions are.

For those asking as I thought it myself. The title is misleading. He doesn’t use any Dark Magic in this scene. However the blood pact was considered by some to be dark magic. Though not the kind of dark magic that the likes of Death Eaters and Voldemort use.
I'm not sure anyone else has noticed this, but if one remembers the notes sung some seconds after the Dumbledore vs Grindelwald fight ends and the then broken blood pact floats in mid air, those same notes are played instrumentally in this scene when Dumbledore is holding it up. At the beginning of the movie still bound together but when heard at the end a symbolism of their final split.

To be clear, many critics and fans of the Wizarding World have deemed this franchise cancelled for a while now. However, despite the announcement of the Harry potter TV show, Warner Bros. has yet to confirm either the official cancellation, or continuation of this series. Harry Potter director David Yates himself stated in an interview in 2023 while promoting his Netflix Original Pain Hustlers, "I started Potter in 2005. So, it's been an amazing journey. We made the last one, The Secrets of Dumbledore, through the pandemic, pre-vaccine. So, we were shooting that movie without vaccines, and it took its toll. It was a tough ride to get it together. These movies are ok, but I like these three a lot, and Jude Law is literally a perfect young version of the original Dumbledore from Sorcerer’s Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Soft spoken and kind but you can sense the power beneath that. Great job by him.
2:15 Those eyes were the eyes of what Michael Gambon's Dumbledore exactly would be when he were young. Perfect casting they chose Jude Law. I could feel Dumbledore here.
i think its a combination of occlumency and 'but i'm thinking about YOU betraying him. Don't mind me, just speaking random info that just happens to be important tactical info that you somehow overhear'. On the other hand, Dumbledore is a total drama queen and no one can budge me from my position. The fact that that man avoided Slytherin is just a testament to his Slytherinness.
When both Grindlewald and Dumbledore attacked each, their mutual defiance towards the pact caused it to break. It cannot hurt both of them at the same time, it therefore is undone. Neither of them can destroy the pact alone and they cannot think of betraying each other. Their meeting and its result was a catalyst leading to their final fight which unfortunately is likely never happening.
The "It senses the betrayal in my heart" scene in 1:49 was sooo brilliantly acted. The way you can really hear the pain in Dumbledore's voice, and it's not only the physical pain that hurts him but also the mere thought of hurting Grindelwald. The blood pact is of something that they made as something of a token of their love and the phial containing their blood always know what they feel for each other. That's why Albus says "It knows, you see." Should they ever think of betraying each other, the vial will strangle them as it is the symbol of their love and it violates the blood pact they made. Basically, the phial is the proving testament of their love fore each other. Not just because of the pact itself.
I really really wish we could get an ending to this story… I know people love to hate this spin-off, but I absolutely love it. I just felt there wasn’t enough information. Like they show us stuff, but never explain it. But it’s still so good. And he plays a great younger albus. It pisses me off that they just left the story hanging, and are now making a TV series to tell a story that’s already been told TWICE… finish this one first.
the actors were great and I even like most of the characters but the story started to make no sense from the second film onwards and got very convoluted.
@@resathe6760 made perfect sense to me. The only bit that was a bit off was why the kept the mentions of Tina in the third film when they weren’t actually going to use her character.
The best Fantastic Beasts was the first one, reason being it brought you back into the Wizarding world with a sense of familiarity, newness, and excitement. We as the audience experienced the world through Jacob's eyes, but as fans were able to see all the ways it connected and referenced what we read in HP books. The characters were interesting and we'll acted aswell. It's probably my favorite "Harry Potter" Movie. The 2 and 3 movie focus more on plot, than the experience of magic. I enjoyed Crimes of Grindelwald, but the plot and story sort of feel like a jumbled mess, buut it lands amazingly. Johnny Depp really does a fantastic job of being charismatic, convincing and intimidating. Jude Law is a perfect young Dumbledore. The final 3rd act was just amazing, The speech, WW2 vision, Queeny leaving, Credence/ Dumbledore reveal. It leaves you with excitement of what's to come. This 3rd movie has the opposite affect. The 1st half starts interesting with the restaurant scene, and quickly promises a delightfully confusing scheme, that should unfold in a clever way, and with a title like "Secrets of Dumbledore" you can only wonder what those secrets will be. But I feel as if that aspect is never fully rewarded, and 3rd act wasn't as exciting as promised. I do enjoy the franchise as a whole and hope they are able to finish the story of Dumbledore vs Grindelwald in a worthy way.
The characters and actors in the first film (aside from Newt, Jacob, and Graves) are all trash and poorly written. The screenplay is terrible and the only thing memorable was NYC. The second film is an incoherent mess and antisemitic.

I'd say the problem is that they're all "Fantastic Beasts" movies, so they have to force a fantastical beast storyline in there somehow every single time. The title is somewhat misleading but I guess it is Dark Magic... not like the kind Voldemort or Grindelwald did of course but I am sure Dumbledore is perfectly capable of it should he want to.
Dumbledore is one of the most powerful wizards to ever live he is perfectly capable of very powerful and dark magic he just does not use it much he is also the only wizard powerful enough to defeat grindalwald In a duel and eventually does in 1945 thats how he obtains the elder wand
@@sakshamsharma5338 None, blood magic is not necesarily dark magic. Dumbledore: It senses the betrayal in my heart! Were I to even think about betraying him... *gasps chokes and writhes* Also Dumbledore 1 minute later thinking of plan to stop him: "If we're to defeat him the Chilluns only part of it." *nothing happens*

Both he and Narcissa would've died. I believe the same rule applies if they refuse one of the questions that come with the vow. I'd say they'd most likely die in this type of fashion.
Your title is not correct, Dumbledore is not using dark magic. He is showing Newt and Theseus what happens when he tries to fight Grindelwald. That is very different to actively using dark magic to hurt others.
It's also not wrong if blood troths are considered dark magic, since the troth is Dumbledore's magic. As far as misleading titles go, this can be considered quite accurate.
@@Isaic02 It is wrong, he is showing what happens to him if he goes against it. That isn't the same as using dark magic. It is not accurate at all. The title implies that Dumbledore is using dark magic to attack someone but he isn't.
@@cecilia8515 Assuming: 1) Dumbledore's (and Grindelwald's) magic is what created the blood troth. 2) Blood troths are created with dark magic and therefore activate using dark magic. 3) Dumbledore actively chose to activate(aka use) the blood troth. We can come to the conclusion that Dumbledore used dark magic. I don't consider using blood to be inherently dark regardless, but even if it was, Dumbledore never shied away from forbidden/dark magic in his studies. Though certainly he was not as learned in them as ones like Voldemort or probably Grindelwald.
@@Isaic02 1) You said you don't consider using blood as dark magic yet you are saying that is why it is dark magic, contradictory. 2) I am talking about what is happening in this scene not what Dumbledore did in the past to create the blood pact. 3) Umbridge used Harry's blood to torture him, how is that not inherently dark? 4) The correct title would be "Dumbledore showing the consequences of him going against Grindelwald" not using dark magic. The pact had already been made, making the pact was the dark magic not showing the consequences of it.
@@cecilia8515 Respectively replying to each: 1) I said assuming blood troths are made using dark magic in both my comments, since the video poster did. If we are to *assume* they believe the title they created. If you aren't comprehending, then perhaps you should read them a few more times. 2) The blood troth moves, grows, and senses intentions and thoughts: magic is still involved. If you want to argue that the current magic is not the same magic used at it's creation, then go ahead, but not with me. 3) I would say that Umbridge's usage is considered dark magic. I previously stated, "I don't consider using blood to be inherently dark..." Umbridge's usage of blood magic was implementing torture, so yes, I consider it dark. However, making a truly binding pact is not if it is done rightfully and willfully by both parties. (Though it might be stupid.) 4) That might be a more accurate title, but that is subjective since the subject is fictional. Therefore, making the *assumptions* stated previously, as is done in any argument, experiment, and facet of life, we can conclude that others disagree. That being proof that it is subjective.

A lot of the hate comes from things outside the movie. JK Rowling angered many people by stating biology is a fact. And others hate it for recasting Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. And now you have the scandals involving Ezra Miller.
Personally, while I don’t hate the FB films at all, there are still a few things that bother me: 1. Plotholes. Not really in the first film since that was a completely new world of characters and places we hadn’t seen before but once they started merging the Hogwarts world into it there started to be huuge holes and inconsistencies. 2. Characters. There are so many interesting characters with complicated backstories in the FB films but they just didn’t have time to do them justice. And then some actors didn’t wanna continue (like the actress for Nagini) so they added even more characters. Now they tried to give everyone at least some closure in FB3 which I liked but some fell very short (like Yusuf). They would’ve needed like twice as long a film to wrap everything up properly. 3. I don’t like how a lot of the magical items or beasts are introduced. They just pop up without any explanation and just as quickly disappear without adding much to the story. Take Dumbledore‘s pocket watch thing. He takes it out briefly to look at Credence then its never seen again. Could it be sth like a foeglass? Maybe but we don’t know and it doesn’t really matter either. Compare that to something like the sorting hat or the deluminator. While in HP we also rarely get to know why something works the way it does the items have a name, a backstory and a relevance in the plot. Now I get that this is actually a lot harder to do in FB bc one of the brilliant things in HP was that we were discovering the magical world alongside the students who also saw all of these things for the first time. In FB the characters are all adult experienced wizards. It would be weird if Dumbledore suddenly started explaining his spells to Newt. In FB1 it was nice because we had a similar situation with Jacob learning about magic. But FB2 was a lot weaker imo. There were so many cool effects and amazing visuals, they had a bigger budget than HP ever had but it didn’t touch me the way HP did at all. It just didn’t have that depth to it. And that’s exactly why I loved FB3 so much more. It’s arguably the holiest of plots and the election story line wasn’t like my top favourite but the center of the film was the Dumbledore/Grindelwald relationship and that was SO incredibly well done that I can overlook a lot of the rest. It’s why I also never minded plotholes in HP that much. For me enjoying a movie is a lot about feeling emotionally connected to it and FB3 did that very well. …If anyone actually read this kudos 😂
That's because the Potter book characters were so well defined. Can't relate to Newt character. Didn't like him or Redmayne's portrayal. The Potter movies weren't as good as the books but due to the huge popularity of the books and perfect casting people loved the potterverse. And if it wasn't for Dumbledore the original series fans wouldn't care much about the prequels. And Johnny's Grindelwald had that maniacal glint. This guy simply has to be stated as dangerous. We wouldn't feel he is dangerous.
It was an absolute mess from an organizational standpoint, there was no character depth to anyone, and the plot was littered with missed opportunities and inconsistencies. The tone of the movies never really found its groove, and they completely brushed over what could’ve been a really good flushed out relationship between Dumbledore and Grindelwald. It seems like the studio said, “people like Dumbledore in the old movies, why change him?” He was the same wise & witty, dumbledore, just younger and hotter. I’m beyond disappointed in these films as a huge potterhead.
Theseus when his brother is socially awkward and stands for magical beasts: "try to be a little bit less you." Theseus when Dumbledore admits to being in love with an other man who happens to be the magical equivalent of Hitler when society at the time was firmly homophobic: "this is fine."

Grindelwald is probably more Himmler or thr other notorious SS Officers more so than Hitler himself as Voldermort is more Hitler like than he is. Probably more Stalin like even or a mixture.
Pretty much sums up his way of dealing with things. He told Harry very little about how to succeed in hunting horcruxes, he left the trio to sort out problems themselves. He told Harry to force him to drink the potion in the cave. He asked Snape to support and carry out his plans even if he was unsure about them.
That little vial _is_ the dark magic. I haven't even seen this movie, and that seems pretty obvious to me. It's _a little_ misleading, since the actual spell was performed years ago, but what we're seeing is _the evidence_ of dark magic he once performed. I mean, that chain trying to rip his arm off and strangle him to death seems pretty damn dark to me.
I used to hate the series because the internet told me to. I watched them all a few days ago and for the sake of enjoying it, I stopped seeing it through the criticism and they really were good. I like Mikkelsen better as Grindelwald, his Grindelwald is more charismatically political, his chemistry with Jude Law was sensual. He brought maturity to the series instead of gimmicks. What happened to Depp was tragic and I’m not saying I hated his version but when everyone attacking Mikkelsen seemed so childish. The cancellation of the series was such a betrayal to the fandom. I wish they revive it one day in my lifetime. 😢
In the scene where dumbledore and credence meet on the street and have a little fight, i thought dumbledore used legillimency on credence as the space they are in is something other than the real world and dumbledore seems to be in control of it.
JK Rowling confirmed it after the seventh Harry Potter book came out, because it was hinted at in the 7th book. The 7th movie did not portray the Grindelwald scene well, so I think that’s why it was surprising for people who did not read the books.

I still think the reason Dumbledore gives Harry in Kings’ Cross during ‘Deathly Hallows,’ is a far better reason as to why Dumbledore did not move against Grindelwald earlier. He told Harry, he was afraid of finding out which one of them killed his sister. It makes a far more emotional and compelling reason without making a McGuffin out of the story.
It doesn't have to be. Towards the end of his life, Dumbledore still loved Grindlewald, even if he nearly destroyed the world.
People have to see emotions to react to them, and that includes "feeling them" if the viewer is so inclined. Personally, I watch movies for the story, not to be manipulated into having a reaction to stimuli causing chemicals to be released in my brain. Which is all emotions are.

"It can't be undone"
*gets randomly undone because plot*
i think its a combination of occlumency and 'but i'm thinking about YOU betraying him.

@@cecilia8515 Assuming:
1) Dumbledore's (and Grindelwald's) magic is what created the blood troth.
@@cecilia8515 Respectively replying to each:
1) I said assuming blood troths are made using dark magic in both my comments, since the video poster did.
(Though it might be stupid.)
4) That might be a more accurate title, but that is subjective since the subject is fictional. Therefore, making the *assumptions* stated previously, as is done in any argument, experiment, and facet of life, we can conclude that others disagree. That being proof that it is subjective.

I wasn't big into the Potter films, but I like this series, and I'm having a hard time understanding why so many people are hating it.
A lot of the hate comes from things outside the movie. JK Rowling angered many people by stating biology is a fact. And others hate it for recasting Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. And now you have the scandals involving Ezra Miller.
Personally, while I don’t hate the FB films at all, there are still a few things that bother me:
You sorta answered it yourself. You weren't big into the Potter films..
“Lies and secrets, we learned them at our mother’s knee .. and Albus, he was a natural”. Aberforth Dumbledore

Even if the blood troth existed then, Dumbledore would still be afraid to find out. Even if it's true Grindlewald killed his sister, he can't actually hate him because he still loves him.

1:48 Chills
Don't forget to commend the fact that Jude Law's speech is tailored after the first dumbledore actor, you can hear it in how he pronounces his words, and the mannerisms too!
They should make a tv show about Voldemorts rise to power - the tv show or movies should end with him killling Harry’s mom and him dying - come full circle-
Show a young black, lupin, Snape, etc
The wand...
Dumbledores wand...
And Grindlewalds wand...
No matter how bad most auto-proclaimed online critics deemed the fantastic beasts franchise to be, we, at least, really deserved to see the five films completed in order to witness the greatest wizard duel of all time. I admit it was far from perfect but the public opinion should’ve overlooked those little errors in order to encourage the producers to go on with it. But no, the HP extremist fans publicly chose to destroy a good project that deserved an ending.
It took me a few watches to realize (not sure if this was obvious to everyone but me), but the way the blood troth is wrapped around Dumbledore's arm resembles an Unbreakable Vow. So either the blood troth was a precursor to the creation of the Unbreakable Vow, or it's a variation if it that has a different set of regulations
I really wish they would complete this series. At least give us one more movie to finish things.
Man i hope they make a 4th one
They are. It's 5 movies, we're on the 3rd.
@@GameoftheYear-fx4mq WB said it depends on performance n reviews of the 3rd one if they continue n it did the least best box office wise so theres a chance it might not go ahead :(
@@A_Vermy well it doesn't matter how much it made, it's still Harry Potter, J.K Rowling is rich enough to make the rest of the movies possible regardless of how much box office. Same for star wars how after episode 8, another movie was still made.
They have five originally planned, which sounds crazy but I hope it gets done. I'm just really interested in the story, but I would like to see movies that deal with post Harry Potter. There's just too much going backwards with the Wizarding World:
-Hogwarts Mystery (Mobile game set just after The Potters death).
-Fantastic Beasts (set before Harry's story).
-Hogwarts Legacy (upcoming next generation console game set in 1800s Wizarding World). Just to name a few examples. Still hoping for more Fantastic Beasts. At least until they finish the story.
@@b.y.o.p.9035 the original cast said they're tired of HP. Emma doesn't act anymore too
I wanted to point out that the movies probably made Theseus look worse than he is, like how he was captured at that event.
He is the Head of the British auror office. Which means says to me he is on the same level with Moody.
we need Fantastic Beasts 4 and 5
Tbh when i read the original books they just seemed like close friends brought together by their respective genius.
I read them so much they fell apart so it confused me when rowling said they were gay.
HBO MAX 💜 💯👍 💯 👍💯
So did we find out that the fan theory that grindirold is alive and is just living dumbledoors house lol
A clever way for brothers-in-arms to not fight each other even if there was a chance to fight each other in the future.
He isn’t using Dark magic. He is only harboring ill intent against grindelwald which at the same time makes the blood oath react.
gosh i would so much love if they started a new franchise similar to Harry Potter.
Law embodies Dumbledore.🧔♀
He almost makes it feel like his character really grew into Gambon's one. 🧙🏼♂
Darkest of all Dark Magics: Amber's Turdus!!!
this is the "windows vista" of all the HP and FB movies
Poor Doctor Watson. After defeating Blackwood he became fascinated with Blackwoods Scribblings. Now, he became the very thing he hated.
I want this movie with grinder world as Jhonny depp
love this movie so much.
Profesor Dumbledore 😢❤
good to see jude after that gold movie and arthur king
its still crazy that I have the same name as Theseus' actor's name and I see it in the credits like I was in it xD
This movie made me cry and cry and cry help
