I am really afraid of the day, that Peter Gabriel will leave this world behind. His music is at my side since I was a little boy. It helps me thru the decades of suffering isolation and depression. Since I am 8 years old. Some of his songs literally saved my life countless times. I dont know, how this little bastard always managed it to get so deep into my soul for decades, but only to release and to heal and to hold me up. And I am thankfull for his music. It is like a very gentle and peacfull angel that always walks one step behind on my side. Now I am 50 years old. Music can save lifes. Gabriels music did this for years very well. Thanks Mr. Gabriel.

Playing for Time (Dark-Side Mix) Lyrics
    Far, far away
    Out amongst the stars
    There’s a planet spinning slowly
    We call it ours
    Any time, any day
Any moment that we bring to life
    Will never fade away
Oh, oh the moments come and go
While the memories ebb and flow
    Play again, play again
Oh, there’s a hill that we must climb
Climb toward the mist of time
It’s all in here what we’ve been through
    Down, I’m getting it down
    Sorting it out
    So everything I care about
    Is held in here
All of those I love inside
    Everybody’s playing for time
You and I still playing for time
    Thеre goes the sun
    Back from whеre it came
The young move to the centre
The mom and dad, the frame
    Any space, any time
Any moment that we bring to life
    Ridiculous, sublime
Oh, oh the moments come and go
While the memories ebb and flow
    Play again, play again
Oh, there’s a hill that we must climb
Climb toward these mists of time
It’s all in here what we’ve been through
    Down, getting it down
    Sorting it out
    So everything I care about
    Is held in here
All of those I love inside
    Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh
    Oh, oh-oh-oh-oh-ooh
The future shines a sunny day
    Unpacked memories stored away
All the while, the clock keeps ticking
You and I still playing for time
One by one the voices silenced
For they know that time will tell
It’s time that wears the crown
And time that rings the bell
    All cards on the table
    All hands are down
    Everybody’s playing for time
    Everyone’s still playing for time
Looking for a flicker in the face of the clock
Hidden in the mountain, in the body of the rock
No one seems to notice or to feel the aftershock
They’re all too busy playing for time
    Everybody’s playing for time
You and I still playing for time

In one word: this is the Peter Gabriel's hymn. Beautiful musical piece! In many words: some unusual jazzy chords on the piano in the beginning, then his charismatic powerful voice in the chorus and finally a rock & classic orchestration, with some deep lyrics = it's really a majestic hymn for his new album "I/O". All the Peter Gabriel's tracks are composed when it's full moon. Peter Gabriel is a so special great spiritual musical artist.

It is very beautiful, deeply moving, poignant, and full of heart. Gabriel's voice for a 73'year old is truly magnificent on this song. He sounds like a 30 year old man at the peak of his singing powers. Both the song, its lyrics, it's orchestral arrangement, and his voice are a triumph. @@eltonmayo2027 not exactly. It strings some similar notes to here comes the flood but the theme is quite different.
More spiritual as he stripped the Christian religious influence from the song (if you mean to compare with here comes the flood). And then you notice the optimism and uplifting endnote that is typical for Peter and was heard throughout genesis quite clearly.
There is no flood here, literally. There is no doomsday in this song, no reset if anything it's an ebb and flow of memories hinting at the eternal that lies within the ticking off the clock.

Just got my tickets for the NY show at the Garden. I remeber buying out the center 11th row section at the Poughkeepsie Civic Center to get my Deadhead friends on board with this amazing man back in the early 80s. He's been my favorite artist since he was in Genesis. After 40 some odd years, I still can't wait to see him. PS - I have seen him a number of time since then...

I don't want to speak too soon but i/o is shaping up to be one of my favourite Gabriel albums ever. This is crazy. I was partly expecting this project to sound like UP leftovers. These songs are far better than that. This song in particular is reminding me of a Randy Newman influence and I haven't heard that out of Gabriel since Scratch. This isn't the first time that i/o has brought me to Scratch. I haven't seen anybody else mention that but that's where I've ended up, at least twice so far, which makes me very, VERY f%#king happy. 👍😎
