Peter Gabriel released this song in 1986. It became instantly, for me, the very ideation of that special someone I was looking and waiting for. I carried it with me for many years, always a favorite....and always looking...for those eyes. In early summer of 2002 I found those eyes... and in fall of 2004 I married those eyes. Sadly, in 2009, through a cruel twist of fate, those eyes left this world. Wednesday June 10th, will be her birthday. Today, I came across this version of the song and it brought me both to tears and also brought your eyes back to the front of my mind. It is your eyes I see when I close my eyes. Your eyes that I miss so much. Those brilliant greenish blue eyes. I have made many mistakes in my life. I have been and still am a selfish and flawed man, but I do try, every day. Those eyes changed me. Because of a promise I made to those eyes, I am now 11 years sober. I will not break the promise I made to those eyes. So now....two days before your birthday...here is the song that kept me alive all those years knowing and believing that you were out there. I still know and believe...you are out there. In your eyes.... I saw the light and the heat. Yes....I was that complete Happy Birthday Cynthia Ann Quick Reynolds Smith. I miss you every single day and I miss ...Your Eyes
Absoletuly touched by this version with Youssou. I've followed Peter since Genesis, well before his participation in the Human Rights Concert at the River Plate Stadium in 1988, with Sting, The Boss, Tracy Chapman, etc., which I attended, up to date (I am 62 and I'm sorry for my bad command of the English language, being an Argentinian; please do forgive me). Peter's voice is like the greatest wines: it gets better and better as time goes by. A truly genius. Period. Thank you UK for bringing to the World a pletora of artists that helped us cope with the worst periods of my generation.
This popped up in my list and a real favorite. I was at this concert and danced with my youngest on my shoulders. Thank you Peter, I regard you as a musical genius. I have seen you many times live and as a family, we have danced, loved, smiled and cried with pure joy. I'm weeping now with bliss. 2010 was a blessed year in Cape Town and I feel privileged to have experienced it with you the other artists, sportsmen and visitors from many corners of the world. Sending hugs to all
@@EasternElder Shame that the way things are right now, back then we all danced together, we all hanged together, we all got high together without problems (I know I'm old) but we all had great times together, USA is dying, sad.
When I started watching/listening to the video, I read the "Goosebumps" comment, and, I thought, "oh c'mon, goosebumps, really?!".....then, a few seconds later, I got goosebumps.
I was lucky enough to attend this exceptional work of art in Argentina on October 15, 1988 when I was very young. Thank you Youssou N'Dour, thank you Peter Gabriel for what you have given us, forever.

I'm listening it now on 3 June in South Africa. Just fitting after our national election. Somehow it felt like 1994 as if Mandela was here. He said South Africa unite🙏♥️💪

A great day --My birthday. Peter Gabriel's greatest song alongside his song BIKO. I will never forget those times. When Mandela was freed it was one of the most hopeful times across the world. This performance brings back all of those memories. Gabriel is a true world treasure
I was feeling so sad the morning after my husband died. I turned on Pandora - I hadn't had a chance to enter artists I liked but Salsbury Hill came on and I felt a rush that went right through me. I said "if this is you it's all I need" to know he was okay. He was a Gabriel fan from the beginning. I absolutely love "In Your Eyes". It touches on every level.
It's wonderful beyond measure when someone finds inspiration and solace from music and can share that experience. In my case, my father developed late Alzheimers and I and my mum looked after him and his heart gave out before his memory; Solsbury for me is about rescuing my own life; Zigo my Dad was that eagle and I never forget that song. ... During Covid 19 I've stayed in touch with friends who have all at one pt or another experienced frustration and loneliness. We began a round robin; send out the most inspiring song, film, book serious or funny. It was just e-mails but it got us through. Appreciate comment so much!

I consider Peter Gabriel's music to be the soundtrack of my life. Everytime I listen to his songs I feel so emotional. In Your Eyes is my favourite song ever! I have never seen him live and I am so sad I won't be able to see his tour this year. as it's not coming to the Iberian peninsula and the prices elsewhere are way out of my reach :( Tickets prices are just not accessible anymore!
The world went better in the early 70s when Genesis blossomed, now it's a mature garden with life and death, as it can only be. Peter is a perennial flower. Yousseu a joyful spirit.
This performance of In Your Eyes is the single best thing Peter Gabriel has ever done in my opinion - a magnificent song, a historic occasion, and it's enhanced enormously here by the pan-African ensemble of Senegal's Youssou N'Dour, Beninese singer Angelique Kidjo and the marvellous Soweto Gospel Choir. As a joyful ethnological love-in to honour the beloved President Nelson Mandela (R.I.P.), this could scarcely be bettered!
I think he has the entire band from his "Growing Up" tour. Certainly Tony Levin on Bass, and he called out Rachel Z. I think I saw Ged Lynch on the drums and would be surprised if David Rhodes and Richard Evans weren't there.
Not sure it's the single best thing. His early years in Genesis when he had creative control were special, and some of his early solo work was exemplary. I love this song and the presentation. But in this ultra sensitive era, it has a tinge of cultural appropriation that might not play well in some circles. Certainly not to the extent of frauds like Sting and the Marley huggers. I hope I'm not being overly criticial because I admire Gabriel and absolutely love this song.
My local 80's station likes to play this song a lot and if that guy is the same one who's on the version they play, he sounds a hell of a lot like David Bowie.
I heard this song for the first time in a live performance on the "So" tour in December of 1986 in Oakland, CA. I was on my feet before the song was over, and would do it again when he finished the show with "Biko". I may have never had a more spiritual experience in my life than that concert.
This was ever (since the 80's) and will be my absolutely favourite song of Peter Gabriel for ever. And this perfomance is simply the very best. Thank you Peter.
What a beautiful rendition of this song with Peter & Youssou's spirit has presence. This song is so grounded in our livelihood in our world 🌎 & consciousness to living in it🤲🏾🌎🔆❤️🫶🏽✨️🫶🏿

Extremely moving, this man has been sending such strong positive vibes for decades that I once thought I would pass out at a concert, imagine Kate Bush, his long-time collaborator, getting on stage! No Sting, no Phil Collins, this man is a genius
Peter Gabreil is really a musical genius with all his different experiences he did as the co-founder of Genesis and more in his brillant long solo career. For example in South Africa.

Great music. I'm so grateful I did manage to see them live in Harare, 1988, Human rights concert featuring Bruce Springteen. , Tracy Chapman, Ladysmith Black Mambazo and many more. Still in my memories.
Cape Town (Nov 2003) - PG filled the Green Point suburb with his music, Mandela in the audience, "Biko" got its first live public performance in South Africa (since being banned in 1980 by the SA government). Deeply moving experience and golden memories.
PG is an epic artist and a musical genius. I put him above most. He is an artist. A thinker, with gifts that most do not possess. A luxury voice and beautiful eyes, an in them he show us..his soul.

Many yes, but not all. So we vote for the ones that care. Giving up is never a good answer.

No other way to put it... it's simply one of the greatest pop songs ever ever...
Cape Town (Nov 2003) - PG filled the Green Point suburb with his music, Mandela in the audience, "Biko" got its first live public performance in South Africa (since being banned in 1980 by the SA government). Deeply moving experience and golden memories.
I am here in December 2023 …this performance is still wonderful and will remain until until until. Thanks Gaby , youssou and mostly The Queen kidjo.
This beautiful song, especially this version, has been a light in my life for many, many years.
PG is an epic artist and a musical genius. I put him above most. He is an artist. A thinker, with gifts that most do not possess. A luxury voice and beautiful eyes, an in them he show us..his soul.

Accepting all I’ve done and said
I want to stand and stare again
Until there’s nothing left at all
It remains there in your eyes
Whatever comes and goes
I will hear your silent call
This music transcends time and space
