Dear Peter, your last album is an absolute Gem. Your words, your music, your feelings.. you take everything you learned, and bring it over the top. Thank you, eternally, for giving the world, and for eternity, such beauty and magnificence.

i know it's taken him 30 years on/off to make this album but it's worth it. i'd rather have an artist work on their own pace to make something great than create something that isn't fully-realized after a few years of work.

Totally agree. Maybe it’s that I’ve aged as well, but Gabriel, Bowie, and Prince are all fine wines. I’d predict Janelle Monae and Laura Mvula show the same promise based on current output.

I have just listened to 'Four Kinds of Horses', and it is superb. At 73 years of age, how is his voice this good. Like the finest of wine Peter Gabriel's voice is getting better and better. His voice on this song is achingly gorgeous, full of richness, pathos, integrity, authority, sincerity, maturity and power. The lyrics are beautiful and moving and the chorus is compelling to the ear. I'm listening to Peter's music 50 very long years, and he just keeps giving and giving. He is an extraordinary talent and a once in a generation singer/songwriter. This album is a triumph. Jonathan Barry, artist and author, Clontarf, Dublin, Ireland.

Thanks a million Anna for your kind reply. His voice is gorgeous for a 73 year old. It's uplifting and inspiring that his voice is so good at this age. He sounds like a 30 year old in top form. Thanks for your positive words. Jonathan Barry.

    • @NiamhCullen
      @NiamhCullen Рік тому +1

I was considering his voice just now and it sounds better than it did when I was 13 in 1984. The beautiful high notes still resonate and cause me to cry as it has the beauty of no other. It is a joyous cry. That is how he has always made me feel.

    • @jonathanbarry3166
      @jonathanbarry3166 Рік тому +1

@@NiamhCullen Thanks Desi, I couldn't agree more. Believe it or not I have been listening to Peter since his first single in 1968, when he was 18 years of age. He released his very first then with Genesis, and even then his voice was unique and different. By the time he sang the glorious song called 'The Carpet Crawlers', aged 25 , on the Genesis album 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' in 1975 - he voice had already reached a maturity and grace far beyond his years. I remember even then in 1975 thinking this man's voice had an extraordinary gift to tell a story with integrity, depth, and soul. That was almost 50 years ago.
I would never have believed it possible that half a century later in 2023, that voice would continue to deepen, mature and morph into an even more gorgeous and vital sound. It's true that Robert Plant and Elton John's voices have also been well maintained, (and both in their 70's), but what other singer/songwriter in the whole world of that era is producing anything of this high quality, with a voice that is still getting better? There is none.
I would need hours to give full examples of where Gabriel's voice has been magnificent over the past 50 years: 'Solsbury Hill' in 1977, 'San Jacinto' in 1980, 'Walk Through the Fire' in 1984, 'Sketchpad With Trumpet and Voice' from Birdy in 1985, 'Red Rain' from 1986, 'Steam' and 'Only Us' from 1992, etc, etc, all seminal songs where his voice is brilliant.
But to think that his voice can be this gorgeous in 2023, with an even greater power to make one cry - well that is incredible. Truly majesterial. I think IO is going to be a better album than UP, and that is some legacy for him. I can think of no other comparable singer/ songwriter that has so consistently moved me for half a century - and more to come. Jonathan Barry, artist and author, Clontarf, Dublin, Ireland.

I've been in/around the music biz for 50+ years, from dive bars to stadiums/pro studios and all in between. I've made it a point of policy to never create "heroes" out of artists - they all put their pants on just like the rest of us. Gabriel is one of the rare exceptions to that policy, his ability to create poignant and moving soundscapes, filled with meaningful lyrics is unmatched, and has been for decades. Looking forward to the release!

    It all seemed so simple
    Remarkably clear
    Like the darkest superhero
You were burst into our fear
They must have seen you looking
    Watched everything you said
Knowing you could be a part of it
    They fill your head
    Fill your head
    Come all the nights
    Oh, come all the days
    So inaccessible in this land
This land beyond the brilliant haze
    Here is all your money
    There is the load
    This is how you travel
If you live to see the world explode
Four kinds of horses, four kinds of men
Ah, you say you're something different
But you do it all again
Four kinds of horses, four kinds of men
Ah, you think you're something different
But you do it all again
Again and again, again and again
Your mind is made up so certain what is right
    But when they ordered everything
Will they see you were born so bright
Oh, mother illusion with your jacket of flames
    Your face it is everywhere
Such a dark, dark shade of fame
    Come all the nights
    Oh, come all the days
    So inaccessible in this land
This land beyond the brilliant haze
    Here is all your money
    There is the load
    This is how you travel
If you live to see the world explode
Four kinds of horses, four kinds of men
Ah, you say you're something different
But you do it all again
Four kinds of horses, four kinds of men
Ah, you think you're something different
But you do it all again
Again and again, again and again
    We feel the vibration
    We're all holding it down
    We feel the vibration
It's coming out of the ground
    We feel the vibration
    We're all holding it down
    We feel the vibration
It's coming out of the ground
    We feel the vibration
    We're all holding it down

Just bought tickets to see him in Manchester in June. Mega bucks plus flights from Malta but he is worth it and I may not be able to see him again. Pure genius and a brilliant showman.

I write songs for fun, and even though I’ve written things I’m proud of, I still can’t fathom how Peter’s mind must work when he creates music. This could have come from an alien. It’s on a whole other level.

This album's Mercy Street. Complete atmospheric immersion, tapping into places in the soul we did not yet know existed. Transformative.

Such a brilliant description of this song. You feel it in places you didn’t even know you had anymore. The haze parts and there it is. And you stand in awe. That is me. That is all of us. That is what Peter Gabriel does. It is miraculous.

Shades of 'We do what we're told' near the end too. Such a good song...on what is shaping up to be a superb album.

I put my work down on word of the release. I sat in my studio with my eyes closed and head down taking in the sounds of Four Kinds of Horses. The delicate rhythm held together with a simple finger snap, slight brushes accenting the movement and Tony's benevolent slide into mood. You inspire me every day and have for 40 years my friend.

How does Gabriel do it? All the tracks released so far from the new album are totally different, yet unmistakably PG. And Four Kinds of Horses is genuinely as good as anything he has ever recorded. Only great music can speak straight to your heart and soul and this song does exactly that.
