I just realized one thing unique about your videos -- you provide closure for the audience. Something many UA-camrs fail to do. For instance, you go to the park and it was not as you expected so you decided to return to the park the next day to record footage of it to see if the park has changed. That's really satisfying for the audience to see. Well done!

I think Malaysian Chinese culture and China's culture and regional cultures are still quite different, especially our system. If you have lived in China, there is a certain aspect of communism.
I still remember my primary school text book in the Chinese school system. Some of the text are about as communist as it gets like 'Lenin' for instance and 'The Great March', others are about famous Chinese writers like Lu Xun. Some of my childhood Chinese TV Programms are Monkey Magic and Feng Sheng Bang. There are a lot of foreign dubbed TV programs like Transformers, Ninja Turtles, DoraAmon and some other animes. There are also TV programs from Taiwan like Qiong Yao series etc. So it's a very interesting combo.
From my perspective, Malaysian Chinese has preserved some regional culture from Canton, Min district and Hakka. They came to Malaysia back in the 19th Century. Therefore in some aspects, it's a little dated (in my opinion), which I find it very exotic as well.
But then again Amy knows much more about all the different areas of Chinese culture, so in some way, I am learning from her.

There's an alternate version of stirfried eel from Hangzhou specific for noodles called Shrimp flash fried eel 虾爆鳝面 which originated from a shop in Hangzhou called 奎元馆(Kui Yuan Guan) on Jiefang Road. always come with large amount of soy sauce and sugar, you can take some of them as snacks. It all looks great. With small deep fried prawns personally I would pop the whole thing in, head, shell, tail and all. Popcorn shrimp! When deep fried the shell just becomes a lovely crisp texture and also you are not peeling off the seasoning. Sesame sauce on wontons is amazing. Sesame has such a wonderful flavour - nutty and fragrant. Great on noodles, as part of a hot pot dip, even in a salad dressing. I love your energy and your preparation for these videos - it makes the food seem very accessible for those who might not have anything like it before. I also love that you take your parents to exciting restaurants. When your dad said that some people on their guided tour in China had never had chili or even garlic before it makes me realize how very lucky I am to love and explore all kinds of food - would be willing to try most things at least once. To me the food is the best way to experience a culture. You don't even need to speak the language - having delicious food amongst the locals is so great. Just point at what someone is having that looks great and give it a shot. Keep it up!

As a shanghainese, I recommend 八宝鸭duck stuffed with rice and other ingredients, 白斩鸡,醉鸡,三黄鸡,全家福 a kind of stew with meatball, omelette, smoked meat, fish that is eaten during new year, 上海炒年糕 Shanghai rice cakes that are savoury,熏鱼smoked fish, 腌笃鲜pork soup with bamboo and tofu. i don’t like 烤麸 bc it taste like sweet sponge tofu.

Those strange paintings in the wonton restaurant are recreations of John Currin paintings. And that's very, very odd; John Currin is a provocative and polarizing contemporary figurative painter from the US.

One question: what was that beautiful fluffy hand at minute 4:53? I really liked that initiative OMG it's so creative.
And lastly! thanks for the little details in these new videos (the pinyin and the characters on the dishes is really nice stuff).

Wow, that is the neighborhood that I came from 30 some years ago. It is very well presented, what a lovely job. By the way, the Shanghai Schnitzels usually go with Lai Jiang You (Chinese version of Worcestershire sauce:). Otherwise, the pork could be at dry side.

One of the key differences between big wontons and small wontons is the wrapping style, apart from the size, thickness of the wrapper, and diversity of the stuffing.

Big wonton in shanghai traditionally has veggies and meat as the filling, small wonton is usually pure meat.

Wow, you are at my hometown that I cannot return to at this moment. Deep fried pork chops must go with 泰康牌辣酱油 (similar to Worcestershire sauce)! Shanghai style egg pancake is called '包脚布‘。 The major difference between 包脚布 and 煎饼 is batter. Jianbing uses mung bean batter and Shanghainese use plain flour more.

Funny thing is, my family, with my dad from shandong and my mom from beijing, and living in America, makes big wonton sized small wontons. (To simplify that, bigger sized wontons in a soup). I always thought only medium sized wontons existed in soup form. I knew we usually made them bigger than usual since it's hand made so the size doesn't stay consistent. Although you said they usually take 2 bites, I love eating them in one. We don't have it often since it's time consuming, so I eat those things like I've been starved for days. Sometimes I do regret it because it's such a huge bite and I can't resist laughing, but my mouth is absolutely full...
