I can see the sticky rice burger being a big hit. A dollar for a meal that you can easily eat on the go without any utensils. Great for busy people looking to fuel up on a budget.
This looks wonderful! The horse meat noodle I’m a little wary of-in Western culture, horse isn’t one of the normally eaten proteins. When it’s eaten in Western literature (as in Christopher Moore’s “Fool”) it’s a “protein of last resort” in that the characters’ rations are too low to continue, so it’s eat what can be eaten or die from starvation.

@Blondie in China - Whilst you're in Guilin please consider visiting Liuzhou City, it's about an hour by road or even quicker by train from Guilin. It has one of the best night-views in China, it's a spectacular place, some of the best riverside green park areas that you'll find, - and has even more variety of noodles than Guilin does believe it or not , it's also one of the key motor-manufacturing cities in China, is about as green and clean as a Chinese city gets (scores in the top for water quality) , it's unique in so many aspects and deserves showcasing i.m.o. it's simply a super interesting place to go visit!!
Taro/yam paste is actually a very traditional Teochew / Chaoshan dessert as well; sometimes we add coconut milk (not so much as in the video but just a bit), and instead of lotus seeds we use gingko nuts. Pumpkin paste is sometimes added into the mix as well, and traditionally the taro/yam paste is fried in pork lard before it is served warm or hot (lard sounds strange in a dessert but it is actually very good and a common practice in some traditional Chinese desserts/pastries).
HI, Amy, I am so glad you enjoyed your trip to my hometown - Guilin. I spent my childhood in Guilin city and moved to Guangdong 30 years ago. The moment when you were enjoying Jiu Gang rice noodles, I was visiting my mother nearby, every time I came back home, the very first thing I must do is have a big bowl of rice noodles in the same place. When I was little, my dad used to put hot water into his bowl after a meal. The reason was that he got to scrap ever bit of oil into his body, so nothing is wasted, and then, there is now very little efford to clean the bowl. It's like you throw the kitchen waste into your belly. Less soap needed, and less waste.
❤ 2:33 Jason, our food guide. ❤ We hope you both stay in touch. You both are great together. 👍 We hope that you both could do loads more video. I am so grateful that I stumbled upon your videos. I have subscribed, saved, shared, and enjoyed your video especially this one. I'm part Chinese, and just started to learn about the chinese language and culture. As a kid, I was bullied relentlessly for being ethically Chinese. Now I am older, I am so proud of my heritage. I'm learning Chinese Mandarin via the Internet and your videos are a great source of practice and inspiration. Ps. Please please say thanks to Jason for us all too for this awesome video and ask him if he'd be interested in doing you tube of China too. I'd definitely subscribed to his channel too. Once again thank you so very much for your advice. I'm following it all.
You are right about Chinese being a tonal language. My husband is from Guangdong, I can speak baby Cantonese. Tsi gung and chi gung ( my interpretation of how they are phonetically spelt, and probably not correct ). A tissue and a spoon. I asked for a tissue….and got a spoon. Gwai, there’s like seven tones that mean different things but sound the bloody same to me - some are deeper toned, but I have a deep voice anyway!!! I am a gwai pau (ghost/white woman), this item is ho gwai (expensive), Fong hai gwai doe (put it there), I can’t remember the others, one is a cupboard I think.
What a lucky you are Amy! with so many of your networking UA-cam's friends. Your video is something nice to remember about Guilin and Yang Shuo, we have been there for 3 times. 👍🏻🙏🏻😍
Well done and so flavorful. Rice noodles are one of the tastiest and well-known foods in China. Guilin and Yangshuo are remarkable places to visit. The natural limestone scenery is famous. There is a night show of local performers with ethnic groups who use the River Li as a backdrop, and it is breathtaking to see. The songs, lights and blurring between a ‘stage’ and water itself are remarkable. Only thing to keep in mind is that local, Chinese audiences are not as quiet or considerate as those in the West. There will be smoking, chatter and loud noises in this show that can distract you, but if you concentrate on the show it is well worth the effort.❤
Cheers on finally getting to visit Guilin! Such a famous and pretty place with those karst mountains. Didn't know there was such a large variety mifen though 😄
Guilin rice noodles has got to be one of my favorite Chinese dishes. The 卤菜粉 you had looks incredible! Better than anything I had in Guilin, now I’ve got to try that store.😍😍

Blondie's Guilin video TORMENTS me with hunger, the dishes are superb, I want to Star Trek energize & transport myself to Guilin right now, great video!
你好!Amy 关注你的视频好久了,我是桂林的在英国,谢谢你的视频缓解了我的思乡之情。如果你去阳朔的话可以试试油茶,斑鱼火锅。期待你的下个视频。
Everything looks so delicious. I need some of that right now.
馋死我了一边看一边哭(大神来给我翻成英文)
So jealous! Watching and drooling and weeping at the same time... ('cause I'm pretty much stuck outside of China. Power translators, translate this to proper English for me.)
Lovely trip to this lovely place!
5k more guys until 300K! LET'S GOOOOOO!

everything is so yummy 😋! BTW, Jason is such a good local guide!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
What a lucky you are Amy! with so many of your networking UA-cam's friends. Your video is something nice to remember about Guilin and Yang Shuo, we have been there for 3 times. 👍🏻🙏🏻😍
Guilin is beautiful
Very local restaurant, I can eat mouthwatering sour spicy noodle all day long. Jason nice tour guide
Nice. On my list of places to go.
Jason好温柔呀。
Jason is an amazing guide! 👏🏼
Cheers on finally getting to visit Guilin! Such a famous and pretty place with those karst mountains. Didn't know there was such a large variety mifen though 😄
I had no idea either! And apparently what I tried was only the very very tip of the iceberg
Guilin rice noodles has got to be one of my favorite Chinese dishes. The 卤菜粉 you had looks incredible! Better than anything I had in Guilin, now I’ve got to try that store.😍😍
OMGG yes!! been waiting for this to happen!
Try Laoyou rice noodle in Nanning!
Jason is the best!
I love the idea of adding some soup to the goodies in the bottom of the bowl.. ❤❤
