i just had a basement flood and my overwintering trichos saved it from being much worse. their dry soil and grow bags absorbed a good volume of the incoming water and prevented it from rising high enough to reach the electrical outlets.

Hope the water subsides soon in your area 🙏 & your cacti will be ok. It was heavy rain for so many hours last week, was afraid of flooding again 😢

    How are you doing?
I have a trichoceres sp. Cactus and I was wondering how do you get yours to grow so tall?
I've had mine for several years and it's only grown about 6 inches in that time.
I'm also wondering about fertilizer and if they are very slow growers?
I hope you managed to get all of that water pumped out for the cactuses sale.
    Take care.

Hey good thanks. If they are in pots they get a specific soil mix. But some are also just in a normal cactus mix with a bit of seamungus fertilizer or any organic fertilizer really. I liquid feed whenever I feel like it. This year I might of liquid fed 3 times all up. And gave gypsum, seamungus, worm castings, insect frass, rock dust that's the majority. I don't really water them unless super dry, most of them get rain water and that is usually enough. They get a lot of midday sun. I find trichocereus species to be one of the fastest cacti species to grow. If you grow them in too much shade they will grow slow, too much sun they will grow slow. If they don't get enough nutrients they will grow slow. Some of my cacti will be stunted for whatever reason like crap soil or fungal infection or some sort of stress so that may stunt them for a couple years. I do also treat them for scale and fungal spots. The water will just soak into the ground it's now 2:14 pm and there really isn't much more water left. It's 27 degrees Celsius so a lot is evaporating this happens atleast once a year and I just let it pass and they are fine. Especially in this case it will be sunny for the next week with good temps they will love all this water, only because it will eventually dry up. Thanks for the questions

It depends on what Trichocereus you have. Some have a more clumping growth habit and will never grow tall like the columnar Trichs.
