Maggie! She was just saying hi, I'm still here Dad! Our dogs will forever be in our hearts and along side us. Great video as always Simon. Have a wonderful holiday season.
Simon, I was in tears when you looked into the camera and said it was a lovely surprise to smell Maggie ❤️ keep doing what you do mate, your amazing. 👍

Being vintage myself at 68 I'm enjoying your vintage camp setup. Used very similar up to my early 20's. It all worked. Thermarests and a few more items make it just that bettter. I checked out the fire cookimg grills your friend makes, top notch. I want them all. We used a percolator coffee maker. Still have it. Coleman lanterns and stoves. Stil have, still work. Like that One Togras floor/door mat. Handy. I have a Mini Aussie, you may want to try one someday. I hadn't had a personal friend dog as a companion in several years as my Britany Spaniel had passed in 1994. This one is extra special. Had her one year yesterday. Thanks for bringing us along on this cold December day. I teared up when you mentioned Maggie and am glad you appreciated the memory of her that the tent had encapsulated. ❤
Hey Simon, the moment you started to set your tent up, I was thinking, I knew Maggie had been in there and wondered if you could smell her in there, and then you came out of the tent and said "I can smell Maggie in there"... im sure she was looking down at you wagging her tail and no doubt getting leaves everywhere. Great set up with the baker tent and retro camp bed, I love the old school style of camping, so much sturdier than modern fabrics and with the ability to drive almost to your camp spot was a huge bonus. Food looked delicious as usual and loved the trailer on your Defender.
Oh Simon! You always have the best locations! So peaceful and relaxing. And you cook some of the most delicious meals that I would struggle to put together in my full kitchen! I know you are missing Maggie. 🥺 But she is always there with you in spirit. I have that very same woven blanket. I love them and always take them camping with us. Thank you for your hard work to film and share with us. It sure brightens up a day to see your videos pop up in the notifications. You take care and be safe out there! Looking forward to your next adventure! ❤❤😊😊👍👍
Maggie. What a wonderful way to be reminded of her. I like the contrast of making pancakes on cast iron and then eating them on titanium. Keep the videos coming. Always great to watch and recall my many trips to the outdoors. With more to come. thanks.
Great camp Simon, nice so see Maggie is still with you, I let Judy dog go last year and when I was out camping ,I still found wee bits of her fur around the tent. They never leave us. Happy camping
Whenever you upload I need to stop what I'm doing, as I want to watch your videos. They always make me smile 😊. No matter the challenges, you always persevere and I'm sure you miss your Maggie, you have fond memories of her. Thank you Simon. Stay safe 🙏
My Dad was in the British Army from '59 to '98, and one of the pieces of kit I remember he had was an old army camp bed, very similar to the one you have. Canvas, with rods down each length, and legs that tensioned the canvas. It was quite low profile, no more than a few inches off the ground, but worked well. A design concept that is still being used today, albeit with different and lighter materials. I think his would have been from the '60's or '70s.
Hi! Simon... Perfect timing. I'm about to sleep and was hoping to see another content from you. Thanks . Missing Maggie and yeah the raw sound of the engine of the Rover is so cool. Keep posting
Loved your last camp, excellent quality as usual, just wanted to say that my wife couldn't get over the fact that we have both a thing for military landrover equipment ie; your ex mod wolf trailer. I have a defender 200tdi 110 and an ex aust army 1966 maintenance trailer that I am currently making into a offroad camping rig. Attached is a pic👍 Cheers
Nice to see the Baker tent again. I've been inspired to make my own with DIY waterproof canvas. Hope to be able to use it for some winter hot tent camping which I've never done. Thanks for the great videos. Nice to hear a sweet memory of Maggie.
I am so happy I found your channel through Kent Survival. I am a little old lady who was a real camper but am now a somewhat glamper. You and Kent has given me a few hrs. of rest from the xmas. (That and a wee nip of good old Canadian whiskey.) Merry Christmas and looking forward to you and Kents adventures in the new Year.
Wow that coffee maker is so cool., I had never seen one b4 and I'm so glad you mentioned what it's called., it's so nice to have yes., I've been enjoying Andy's videos for a short while now and now enjoying yours too.. I love that Baker tent also and with a porch., Sweet items you both have and I really enjoy your videos Simon thx.. God bless you and Andy both..🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
It’s good to see the old Land Rover out and about. I have a 2000 jeep wrangler TJ. I am building here in Colorado US. I always enjoy your video Simon I get to see the UK countryside through you. Keep up the good work.
What a lovely memory to have of Maggie, I'm glad it brought you a smile. I really enjoyed watching you create your baker tent and the outings you have with it. Thank you for another great video and sharing your Maggie moment. 💕🐾
I absolutely love the bakers tent , it would be nice to have one of those twice the size for 4 people , all wax canvas with a autumn fallen leaf color , that tent looks cozy like it was made for winter .
I was thinking that that was the last time you had used the Baker when you were setting it up. And then you mentioned it and my eyes kind of started itching because that would be a wonderful "remembering" in my opinion. Thanks again Simon for taking the time to have us enjoy the outdoors with you. It is always a pleasure to watch, remember, and enjoy alongside. By the way - it seems a pretty little wooded lot to spend time in.
What a lovely video just what was needed Simon! It’s funny even before you mentioned Maggie, it had struck me that the Baker tent brought back Maggie memories for me too, always associated the tent with Mags I guess!
The finials are the best parts of the tent, or maybe the fire, or the darkness the canvas provides, or so many good things. Thanks for the extra effort in your setup, looked fun.
Bless the memory of dear Maggi. I so loved watching camps and canoe journeys with her although she liked to jump in the water . Love video , thank you.
So very sweet that dear Maggie was in a way, with you in camp. She was such a lovely dog and I know that you must still miss her...a nice remembrance for sure. And thanks for demonstrating the production of charcoal. ATB until next time.
Fantastic traditional camp. Have two of those camp beds, mine have the head end raised as a pillow. Date from the early 60's, give a really comfortable nights sleep, can't beat them! The Maggie memory bought a lump to my throat😢.
Goes to show you, Maggie even though not present with you… She’s still there with you Brother 🙏🏼! Someone must have been chopping onions, because I got a bit teary eyed for a tick there 🫡. Great episode, cheers from across the pond …California 🍻👊🏼😎
Thank youu Simo for another great vid, i had tears in eyes when you mentioned Maggie, reminded me of my cat who passed away 5 years ago. Remember Simon she will be always with You guarding You, just thiink about her from time to time. I always likedd her calm but focused look. Miss her in your vids. Stay strong and positive as You always are. Your personality is what is making this channel so amazing and close to my heart, like goig with old friiend on a trip. Keep up good work and thank You.
I rewatched this video and agree that there is something enjoyable about this vintage style of camping. I kind of had a lump in my throat when Simon started talking about Maggie. Our family’s best friend is laying at my feet listening to the video. Good times. Thanks again for a great video.
Well Simon I’m a grown man and I teared up when you started talking about Maggie, my heart goes out to you and your family. I really like your Christmas videos and I was wondering if you might change it up a bit and get a few of your fellow U.K. Bushcraft people together and have a potluck style Christmas dinner, everyone brings something different and you all share a wonderful feast, just a thought, I only watch you fellas from the U.K. Anyway I just like the way you guys do things, if you’re wondering I’m in the U.S. thank you and I will be watching no matter what you decide.
Great video as always, Simon. All the hours you put into making that tent are now paying you back, with interest. I too started my camping under heavy canvas (Millets circa 1974), with an old army camp bed, a paraffin lamp, and a primus stove. Your mention of Maggie brought a tear to my eye. It must have been lovely to smell her again. She is much missed by many, I'm sure. Cheesus, that's a lot of pancakes! All the best, mate.
Hey Simon, nice to see the baker tent again. I really enjoyed the series when you made it. Really goodbto see it in use again. That was a very nice touch seeing Maggie in the video. I never would have thought about her aroma still being in the tent. Good to see you out enjoying the camping. God bless my friend. Stay safe on your travels. 👍👍
I rewatched the baker tent camp with Maggie last night! She enjoyed her hunters chicken. That lamb would of been good with some fruit in it, like raisins or apricots. Looked good though.
I have neither the transport - 4x4 - nor the ability to carry your kit. But, I have ways and means. The outdoors IS accessible, even for those who have next to nowt. I went off into the woods with ’the lads’, two days ago, to test out my new sleeping bag. When I was as young as ’the lads’ I ventured forth every weekend. I trusted that God and good neighbours would take pity if 'the proverbial’ hit the fan. It always worked... - different stories. I never checked the weather. It was the weekend, so we must venture forth! Now, I am retired. I can relax and wait for a 'window' in the weather. I do, to a certain extent. But, life is never on hold. There are four seasons in a year. I have stuck to Spring, Summer and Autumn all of my life. When years are running out, seasons matter. My new sleeping bag is LUSH! So, it was worth the hike through the snow (twice -there and back), from the point of inaccessibility. Because, when you sit in a wood, in the snow and look up to see the stars in the sky through the lace curtains of leafless, snow-covered branches... you live. A beer or two helps, too. It makes you all poetic an' that. 🤣
We absolutely loved this video! The coziest camp imaginable. Beautiful forest, etc. Personally, we would love this setup next to a high mountain trout lake with a couple of fishing poles and a lovely camp like this to return to (P.S., We live in the desert). Living! The clip of Maggie made us both say "Awww"♥ Thanks for another wonderful video, Simon! (And the fun music at the end had my wife and I chuckling😄)
@@simonablokeinthewoods I commented to you when you first sewed your tent together (incredible!) how wonderful that tent was. From looking at the comments then and now, it sounds like there are alot of fans of that classic little tent. It has brightened alot of people's day! Thanks!
Great relaxing video Simon. I just found your channel and your work is really good. I’m an old guy in the U.S., and as a teen in the Boy Scouts we used Baker tents just like that all the time. They make a very versatile shelter. In hot Florida weather we kept the sides rolled up for air flow and hung mosquito netting to keep the bugs at bay. Brings back a lot of great memories, thanks!
That's a lot different than the bakers tents I remember in my boy scout days 25 - 30 years ago. I've been looking for one of those, but now I want this one. Lol
You had me twice tonight Simon... Once with the ex-mil (?) trailer (Happy days watching it bounce around behind my mid '70s Lightweight SWB) Secondly with your discovery of Maggie hairs/smell🤗😢 Great video and superb cinematography/content as ever dude👏😎👌
When it comes to Pancakes, you can never have too many :) Good one, Simon. Most simple and best 'making charcoal' we've seen. No one holds a candle to you.
Great to see the Baker tent out again. Ahh, Maggie❤️! Today must be dog day. I had memories happen of my best friend today as did a friend of mine with hers. Our dogs always have special places in our hearts! Loved the video!
Another great video as expected! I'm too old for backpacking but continue to car camp several times a year. Really enjoyed watching this Simon....Cheers!
Thanks, Simon. I really like the Baker tent. Although it is not light, it allows for several configurations and all weather conditions. Recalls those old colonial scenes on safari, in the desert and a thousand locations across the globe.
A dog is a true friend and a soul.. so is a cat .. Or any other baby you have in your life . Love you and love Maggie . Been there with loss . . 🙏 ××××
This is still the best channel of this type. Well done for keeping it going and keeping it fresh. I love your camping style. Lots of variety in the spread of equipment you use. I think that’s what keeps the shows different and interesting. Of course, the cinematography is awesome. Cheers from Western Australia
I must say I love your tent. You should make them and sell them. They are so roomy and comfortable. To have the canopy addition is such an advantage when it rains and still be able to have a fire under it. Your coffee percolator is brilliant. I have never seen one like that before. Your delicious meal looked amazing. Love the charcoal maker. What a great idea! Thank you for sharing Simon. Love all your videos and those with Andy as well.
Thanks for the nostalgic trip with super old style kit. Not sure if your trailer rattled at the very end or you had a clunky gear change😀 but just great content as ever and a lovely reminder of Maggie.
I miss Maggie, also. I thought of her the second I saw this video. She's with us, of course.
As soon as you pulled out that tent I thought of Maggie, then mentioned your great memories of her. Looks like a fine woodland.
That is exactly what I thought as soon as I saw it going up...then imagined the sounds of the slurp slurp slurp her drinking water.

Yes, I did too. When he was setting up she came to my mind, and then I missed her. I’m sure the family miss her so much - she was a lovely dog.
What a lovely video, thank you Simon. The mention of Maggie brought a tear to my eyes and I would suspect I won't be the only one.
@stunningmysterycomps. You are right there. Tears welled up here. ❤😪
No, you were not the only one. I was thinking the last time I saw him use that tent was with Maggie. I was right.
Nope. Definately not the only one
Nice video Simon you do like ex Military gear I see
It's a great thought to think that Maggie is still camping with you. That is so cool. Great food and a great spot. Thanks for having us along

Thank you! It would be a great fishing tent!
I remember her, and had tears in my eyes.😘😪.......................................🐈⬛
Thank you! 😁
When it comes to Pancakes, you can never have too many :) Good one, Simon. Most simple and best 'making charcoal' we've seen. No one holds a candle to you.
It was lovely to see that short clip of Maggie again. Such a beautiful dog.
Thank you Simon. Be well. Spend time with your family my friend. The world is right there.
Such a lovely memory of Maggie
Thanks, Simon. I really like the Baker tent. Although it is not light, it allows for several configurations and all weather conditions. Recalls those old colonial scenes on safari, in the desert and a thousand locations across the globe.
A dog is a true friend and a soul.. so is a cat .. Or any other baby you have in your life . Love you and love Maggie . Been there with loss . . 🙏 ××××
Your Maggie will always be with you in spirit. Another fine video Simon 👌
What an epic spot for your Baker tent, that's my favourite tent in your arsenal of goodies. Stay safe and have a great week.
What a wonderful surprise and memory of good old Maggie. Nice one! 🍻
This is still the best channel of this type. Well done for keeping it going and keeping it fresh.
I love your camping style. Lots of variety in the spread of equipment you use. I think that’s what keeps the shows different and interesting.
Of course, the cinematography is awesome.
Cheers from Western Australia
As long as you make a video i keep watching you and Maggie
I must say I love your tent. You should make them and sell them. They are so roomy and comfortable. To have the canopy addition is such an advantage when it rains and still be able to have a fire under it. Your coffee percolator is brilliant. I have never seen one like that before. Your delicious meal looked amazing. Love the charcoal maker. What a great idea! Thank you for sharing Simon. Love all your videos and those with Andy as well.
Enjoyed the video Simon...It brought tears to my eyes when you mentioned Maggie...such sweet memories...Best wishes to you ✌️
Comin home, cold outside, gettin a nice cup of coffee and watching Simon... Perfect. Greetings from Northern Germany
That Rover is just beautiful! To hear that iconic chug as you roll along is wonderful. Keep it forever!
Nice relaxing video and with memories of Maggie the dog in the woods.
Thanks for the nostalgic trip with super old style kit. Not sure if your trailer rattled at the very end or you had a clunky gear change😀 but just great content as ever and a lovely reminder of Maggie.
Said before I love this tent 🏕️ 👍🏻
Glad it brought back the memories of mags. I keep hoping to see another furry camp buddy show up
Always a pleasure, Sir.
Good video Simon. The camp stretcher looks like what we had in the 1960's. Very comfy. Previously they were wooden X frames with canvas. Cheers.
