    Nick, my man, incredible! I don't know how long it will last, but this worked 100%. The most trouble I had was removing the heat shield, everything else was easy and worked exactly how you showed. Thank you so much!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Рік тому

      Hey Anthony, yeah that repair as long as you did it with a proper BGA rework machine then it should last. If all you did was the heating, then all that is used for is diagnostic purposes, it's not a fix.
      It's simply to confirm the issue. So if it's still working, after doing the heating it probably won't be for long and eventually you will need to get it properly fixed.

    What an excellent presentation, and thanks to you, my TV is functional again. Many thanks - I would have cried had I had to consign this TV to the scrap heap.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 місяці тому +1

      Just to make sure but heating up the processor is NOT the fix. Per the video that is simply used as a testing technique to confirm the processor is not properly communicating with the rest of the mainboard. To properly fix it, you need to reflow the solder joints between the processor and the PCB. We do have a flat rate service which comes with a 1 year warranty if you want to send in your board, we can fix it the right way. If you only heated the board, the TV will temporarily work and then go back to the same fault soon after.

    • @billcrunkhorn5602
      @billcrunkhorn5602 3 місяці тому

      @@NicksTVRepair Indeed, and I understand. I'm an engineer and I did reflow the BGA. This is not the first issue I've had on this TV - there were inductors on the display driver PWB which had dry joints, and these arcing took out the driver transistors and diodes. That was relatively easy to find though significant effort to repair. This BGA fault I would not have found without you. I suspect I may be using you in the future. Thanks again.

    What a legend! Had a pz950 sitting around for about 6 years stored it away knowing it couldn’t have been a huge issue, done this and it works! Just need to send for repair now, I’m in aust tho so will search around. Thing is now it has no sound, I sure it used too, do you think I’ve damaged something? I’ve done all the obvious standard trouble shooting. Cables, settings etc. no sound on internal speakers or can I get a sound bar to work.

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  5 місяців тому +1

      If it has no sound it most likely is just because there are still cracked solder joints between the CPU and the PCB. The heating of the CPU is not a repair it's a test for troubleshooting purposes. If you only heated the board then you didn't fix it yet. It needs to be reflowed using professional equipment to ensure long-lasting repairs as we do in the video.
      If you want to send in the mainboard for us to fix, we have a mail-in repair service linked in the video description. Our contact info is there as well if you have any questions.

    Hi Nick! We currently have a big LG Plasma TV model 60PA5500-UG and we can hear sound, but no screen or picture! Would this be the same issue? Thanks in advance!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  7 місяців тому

      I couldn't tell you with only that information, you need to do the diagnostic test like I showed you in the video with the jumper on the Logic board. If you get the color pattern test to show up then just as shown in the video your mainboard is indeed defective and needs to be replaced or repaired. You won't be able to fix it in the same way we do in the video since your mainboard has a different design and processor, so the heating-up trick won't work for your model, but at least you can confirm the mainboard is the fault.
      If you don't get the color pattern test then it means most likely one of your sustain boards or buffer boards is bad. At that point, you will need to do resistance and voltage checks to further identify the fault.
      If you still have issues and or questions on how to do that, reach out to us directly, I have our email and contact form linked in the video description.

      Check the 2 thermal resistors at the top right corner of the board. Are they failed open?
      Have you disconnected the other boards from your power supply and plugged it in? What voltages do you get?
      The LG plasma power supply boards auto turn on when the mainboard is disconnected. If the power supply detects a fault such as a short on the VS line of the Y or Z sustain it will shut off or go into protection mode. So if you disconnect everything and then turn it on and works then you know the power supply is good. If it still doesn't work then you know it's the fault and not something else in line.
      Usually transistors go out on these, along with those thermal resistors I mentioned.
      If those aren't at fault, then the board will require more diagnostics and component level checks. I wouldn't be able to help much more without having the board in my hands.

    Nike Thank you very much for your reply I checked all the the thermal resistors are fine and I have changed the capacitor C106 next to the relays which is blue rectangular new 330nk 275v x2 still both relays are clicking? This is very tricky fault and all the fuses are OK on the pcb and back of the board I checked small mosfet all reading OK and checked all diodes all are OK with your expertise what it could be and what else I can check please kindly if you have some time please kindly help me on this issue thank you very much for your time

    Is there an easy backlight test?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  5 місяців тому

      This is a plasma TV so there is no backlight test. The equivalent of the backlight test is the color pattern test that I show in the video. That is the easiest test you can do to identify if the panel is good along with the other boards excluding the mainboard.

    Great info! I suspect the main board to be the issue with my 60PK550. Has sound no picture. Prior to a black screen the menu input screen would flicker when selecting HDMI or TV input etc (seldom/occasionally the tv would have a distorted/ghosting picture but only during fast movement video...like when an ice/figure skater moved around quickly). Hope to do this repair with the back off while still standing in the base/stand. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  Рік тому

      You have to remove the stand in order to remove the back cover. The TV will have to lay face down. I recommend using a couch, bed, or if you have a dining room table large enough, to put a few blankets or towels down to protect the screen and frame from scratches.
      Heating the mainboard with a hot air gun is not a repair, it was just used as a diagnostic technique. In order to fully and properly repair the mainboard, you will need to have it reworked.

    • @robnation2475
      @robnation2475 Рік тому

      @@NicksTVRepair Thanks.
      I'll just get a used main/input board I guess. Turns out the 60PK550 can be serviced on the stand with the back cover off. I just replace the Y buffers and found an actual new YSUS and the flickering HDMI input went away until starting it up cold. (the upper buffer fell apart/un-soldered itself at the screw lugs so I had multiple failures/problems) I was able to resolve the "ghosting issue" temporarily (for a full day or 2) by slightly backing out the screws near the RCA inputs (makes sense to me, "If" the input board is weak/flexing enough to create a 2nd HDMI "ghost" below the original?)

    They don't design enough cooling into electronics, probably for a reason, planned obsolescence. My night owl security cam burned out the HDD a yr old, I bought a new drive and then noticed how HOT it was getting, because the case was not well ventilated and the processor was heating the insides like an oven, I put a fan on the processor and modified the case to breathe. They have to know this when they build and test it. Warranty is a yr, it will last a yr, good to go.

    Is this repair even worthwhile when LED TVs are so cheap nowdays?

    • @NicksTVRepair
      @NicksTVRepair  3 місяці тому

      Well of course I am biased but yes especially because of how cheap they make LED tvs today.
      This is a Plasma set, you won't be getting as good of quality with a regular 4k LED TV unless you are buying an OLED or QLED which cost a lot more than the cheap low quality picture sets you can buy at walmart. Those have low quality picture, due to bad contrast ratio and low quality parts.
