My LG tv went black after i turned it on while connected via hdmi to my pc. Sound worked but everytime i tried turning the tv back on, the LG logo flickered for a second and then went back to black. With the evidence suggested in the video i confirmed the backlights were faulty. I was frustrated bcz i was supposed to start gaming so i tried the fastest/easiest solutions in the video, they didn't work. Then i saw one of the comments suggesting tapping the back of the tv and i jokingly tried that and IT WORKED??? Don't use much force, lighty tap around the back area and voila, perfectly working tv again!!! I hope the backlights will continue to work, this is a 10 yrs old tv screen i'm talking about...cheers to my tv!🎉
That flow chart is really helpful. I'm trying to fix an LG smart tv and I've replaced the main board (tconn is integrated) and the cables going to the LCD. Same problem. Backlight comes on. 12v rail is available. Only thing I can think of is that the LCD is bad, it would be unlikely there was the same blown component on two mainboards preventing output to the LCD. Unless there's an issue on the power board that isn't passing that specific voltage, but it's passing all the others.
Super helpful video. Question, I have a LG 65un6955zuf. I have the back panel off. The led blacklists work, I have sound but no picture. I took your advice and removed the two ribbon wires from the mother board to the Tcon boards near the power button. Tv is upside down, removing the right side ribbon gives me half of a perfect picture. How would you solve the other half? The tcon if that's what they are even called in my case seem buried a bit, would removing them and heating them possibly work?
Not lg tv, Panasonic, but recently intermittently I get white/grey vertical bars, powering off and on fixes but it will return the following day, I get audio when like this. Im thinking t-con board on way out but what is your opinion?
This is so annoying i left my house for an hour came back and i thought my tv was off my Xbox was still on and i tried grabbing the remote and turning it on and hmmmm still dark and i heard the off chime when i hit the power button so then i got confused like hmmmm it was already in i turn it back on get a quick hdmi 3 flash in the corner of the screen perfect sound no picture i unplugged it unplugged the hdmi tried it again and still no progress so i moved it to my living room to get another power source and same thing so I’m like greeeeeeaaaaaaaat it’s ruined I’ve had this tv so many years now and it’s been in my room at my moms house i bring it to my house for 2 days and boom it goes out 😢
Is it possible to have an intermittent backlight failure? Have to try turning on my tv about 50 times. Sometimes can see a faint outline. But if I try enough times it fires up and works fine
Yes, it is. Backlights can get faint or only work intermittently when near failure, but it could also be a loose connection between the LEDs or with the power board.
Interesring issue where the back light powers on for about half a second when the tv is switched on. Removed the ribbon between the main board and power board and nothing. Metering 5v momenterily across the backlight output then sits at 2.5v. Assuming its the power board, but the fault is the output voltage, with the main board disconnected youd still expect the the light to behave in the same way, bur it only momentarily lights with the main board connected. Any thoughts appreciated!!
Many thanks. I am down to Power or backlights.. question if plug or unplug the mains I see the backlight flash for a brief moment. No voltage on the LED+ and LED-.
My backlight works great for the first 8-9 seconds after turning the TV on, but then the backlight turns completely off. It does pass the flashlight test and has no other issues. Unfortunately, power cycling didn't fix it. Any thoughts? Thanks!
My LG 65uh950v starts fine, works for 30ish minutes, and then goes black, but sound still works. Tried the power off, for hours without live socket. I only use the telly with WiFi, so nothing is connected. Nothing appears on the screen no matter what I do, but I can turn TV off. There is a small red light blinking on one of the circuit boards, that only blinks after it goes black. +2000£ TV and only 6 years old. Hate sending TV to repairs, without knowing the issue since fault checking is a costly potential rabbit hole. I got 200km to repair shop one way so that's why I really would like to know more first. Tom in Norway Any ideas?
My TV screen turns on fully for 5 seconds after turning it on, and then the backlights turn off. Ive tried many things and this is consistantly happening, so the backlights clearly work but are constnatly being turned off shortly after powering on? Do you know if this is a specific problem?
@@ThanhLe-vv3rj I believe that indicates part of the backlight has a fault. It powers up on switch on, you see the logo, the it detects the fault and switches off the backlight.
what if the backlight works for a couple of minutes, then it blacks out ? if i leave it for a couple of hours, and power it back on, it works again only for a few minutes, then off goes the backlight. any idea which component could cause this issue?
Same here. No fixes on UA-cam, LG's support is a joke, and I felt like I'm the only one with this issue. I get a picture for 3 seconds then blank. Why can't anyone help me?
My tv if i turned it off and went to sleep , the next day i turned it on the display has no backlight for 30 minutes or more , and then the backlight comeback, i have to wait 30 minutes every day to get it to work . Any ideas?
I’ve got LG Sony LED TV. There’s sound, but screen just went black after I watched UA-cam for approx 15mins. There is a white/grey line at top of screen. So I’m guessing my TV is bust ? I can’t see any images with a torch ?
My tv comes on for a a second or 2 then goes black is this the same problem I tryed the first one but nothing stays normal for about 5 seconds then goes black
My tv went black, i turned off then on, came on, again it did it, turned off then on came on.... again it did it, off and on ain't working. I think its the humidity. The other day my Switch and Xbox didn't work. I put the dehumidifier on, went to the gym, came back after an hour workout and they worked.......this is annoying. And there was always sound
meh... I have a 2021 LG LCD TV and the backlight is fine, the power board is fine, and I can change channels and hear sound but no picture, it's completely dark. I am fairly certain that after 2021 they stopped using T-CON (converter) boards as mine does not have one, so the only culprit here is a bad LCD or a bad controller board.
T-Cons got integrated onto the main board for some models. You should still have the same pair of LVDS cables but they go to the main board instead. If there's no picture with the flashlight test, I would assume it's the LEDs, otherwise the main board.
@@techtests It was the COF IC in the cable, these cables have little dots on them and I think they are fuse indicators and all the cables have dots except one which also has a burnt mark between traces, so panel is toasty toast. It's pickings for shop that has equipment to solder the whole ribbon with COF IC back on. It is weird that it died exactly right out of warranty. Holidays gave me some Vizio panels now. Thanks for reply though! 👍
I have no picture but sound. I don't see pictures with the flash light. When I unplugged the power board from the Main board. Nothing happen, no sound, no light, really like if don't turn on. When unplugging the right LVDS cable, nothing change, when I unplugged the left, I have one side dark and one side white. Do I understand I should change the T-Con? Thank you for your great video
