honestly as someone who only enjoyed sekiro and elden ring this game feels very dated. FS evolved beyond the basic dark souls formula a while ago and this feels like a step backwards.
Man, when it comes to this type of game, it really comes down to how intuitive (or potentially counterintuitive) the on-screen combat animations synchronize with the player’s button press/input for critical fundamentals, like parry, block, or dodge. I never complain about challenge or difficulty, as long as whenever I mess up, I can clearly tell why I messed up. Some of these Souls-Like titles provide that immediate feedback to the player very well, while others… do not.
One of the best Demos I have ever played - multiple hours of content that I couldn't believe just kept going. Made this a day one purchase for me and really happy to hear the full game does not seem to disappoint.
Played the demo and I FELL IN LOVE with this game, I will absolutely get it, the fact that you're playing as Pinocchio and you meet npcs related to its story is so cool!
I've been watching this one ever since it was announced, and it's one that I've really let myself get hyped up for. I'm usually pretty good about tempering my expectations, but something about this game just hits every note for me. The demo was excellent, I'm thrilled that it's getting such a positive response, and I'm so excited to play it in a few days.
@@gameranxTV This game's combat is really REALLY boring. You said "combat is satisfying," but it's very slow, sluggish & lackluster. Did you even play the game? Or are u reading from a script for this video??
There were several games on my wishlist for my birthday and my mom preordered Lies of P and Spiderman for me through gamestop... my first ever phyiscal preorders!
This is my first soulslike game. I was very intimidated by it and super scared it was going to be too hard for me. But im on my third playthrough now.😂 I LOVE this game. I love the quick fighting style. I love the story. I love the level design, i love the characters, music, and environments. It instantly became one of my top favorite games.❤
@drankFoD it's pretty difficult but if you're smart about how you level up and your weapon upgrades and learning about boss attack patterns, then it's manageable. These games are all about trial and error. Accept you're going to die many times. Frustration only sets in when no progress is made.
I’ve been waiting for this game to come out since I played the demo. It’s continued to look better and better the more they’ve shown. I think this will end up being a classic.
Yeah it looks really good. I've tried some of the knock off FromSoft games like Nioh/Code Vein/The Surge and none of them really did it for me. This one looks great.
The thing about Nioh is it's really not for the casual player. You can really go deep in the weeds on the theory craft/build crafting front. It's an amazing game if you like having your brain fully engaged to optimize builds for endgame and such.
Yes I agree it’s the first souls like game I’ve come close to beat. So much fun. Challenging but not to the point where I want to give up. Also Laxasia only took me 3 tries compared to the brotherhood where it took me like 6-8 lol
@clubbizarre dude , elden ring is the best , if u like dark souls game . This could be ur best game . I played god of war .it has nice story but i enjoyed lies of P more because i loove bloodborne dark souls and elden ring
I actually think theres a lot of great themes and interesting lessons in the tale of pinocchio. Pinocchio - as whimsical and lighthearted as it comes across, has a lot of pretty dark implications about our development as humans, and to see a soulslike game embrace that world is very intriguing to me. Ranted a bit there, but yea, will def pick this game up at some point.(there are too many good games coming out soon and im fully enraptured in baldurs gate 3 and armored core 6 atm. But Lies of P is somewhere at the top of my list for new games to play)
Pinocchio is very dark. I mean he was hanged by bandits at one point. He just straight up murders the cricket. Yeah it's whimsical, but it's also very darkly whimsical lol
The style and the little change up in the story of Pinocchio is what is fascinating and what drew me into the game in general. I really think this was a perfect adaptation to the "souls-like" world and can't wait for more if the company makes more content or a new game entirely. I highly recommend this game.
I played the demo and I was having so much fun I forgot that it wasn't the full game until I beat the last boss for the presentation! I am so hyped for this, great mechanics, fighting styles, sound design, atmostphere, and interesting take on the old classic stories! I won't pre-order brand new but I will pick up a pre own copy at my local gamestop!
i beat the demo 3 times, once for each playstyle, about 18-19 hours in general, love it a lot, i never beat any souls game but this one might become one of my fav games in general because of it's concept and style
I've never played a Souls Game but was very interested in the Pinocchio theme and concept. I played the Demo and became a sweaty gamer for like an hour or two and I really appreciated it and beat the first boss and left me wanting for more because the demo ended with you opening the skill tree. Will be picking up the game soon!
You should definitely explore more soulslike games. It sounds like the whole thing really clicked for you. That doesn't always happen for some gamers when they try to get into soulslikes. There's literally several dozen great games in this style, that I bet you would really love.
@@thebarbaryghostsf been interested in trying out Bloodborne and maybe die a lot in Sekiro lol I'm not a big fantasy:knights fan but the other games seem interesting enough
@@gltterati There's now soulslike for every kind of aesthetic or genre. From the classic low-fantasy of Dark Souls to Sci-Fi wth series like The Surge or the recent Hellpoint (a personal hidden gem fave). Sekiro is an amazing game, but has one of the highest difficulty/learning curves of all of Fromsofts soulslikes. Bloodborne is an excellent next step from Lies of P! That game is very accessible. And is definitely worth your time! Sekiro I also have to note has imho some of fromsofts best world design. Damn this conversation is making me want to replay all of these amazing games!
I like that Jake admits he's not the greatest at these style of games but still wants to try them and have fun regardless. I'm also terrible at soulsborne games but I love the settings and lore so I still want to try and play them, even knowing I am invariably going to hit walls and skill checks. I find the Lies of P very intriguing from a setting standpoint (I mean I dud watch Pinocchio over and over as a little kid) and the reviews and gameplay seem to land on that this is one for longtime genre stalwarts and newcomers alike sounds promising.
The demo was insanely good and so polished. Oh and I love that they are using the original Italian, Pinocchio as the influence, not that Disney silliness.
Awesome. I always wait to order a game after reviews, and I trust you guys to give good honest reviews. Been watching since the Nioh days, and you guys helped me with that as well. No doubt in my mind that I will enjoy this one :)
So I have been watching this project intensely ever since hearing the premise. It has honestly been my most hyped game in years. As soon as the demo came out I went through it 4 different times with completely different builds, putting 7 hours into it. When the 72 hour early access started, i was ready. Now have 12 hours in the game and I can honestly say it is now one of my all time favorites. The setting, the style, the gameplay, the characters…..all of it is so insanely charming and interesting. I am praying this kind of gothic retelling becomes more popular cause I feel like they struck gold here. So far, definitely my game of the year.
I downloaded and started playing the Demo up to the first boss you fight. I didn't realize it was a Soul-like until I got to him (I've never played one before) so I stopped, mostly to make a solid run of the full game. I'm excited to give it a go, and I think, like mentioned in the video, they style and setting will be plenty to push me past the challenge. Excited to get started on it.
I did the same i never beat the first boss in demo cause i wanted the first time i beat him to be in the full game, Ive finished all souls games, bloodborne, nioh, sekiro and elden ring so im really looking forward to seeing what this game brings
For those who didn't play the demo: The deflection works like Sekiro's, it doesn't disbalance the enemy for a riposte like in BB. Standard block: recoverable hp loss (easy but costly) Perfect guard: no hp loss and build enemy's nonvisible stagger meter. eg. When the Watchman boss does a chain attack, chain deflections are needed. This is the core part of the game and everything else is built around it. The nerfed roll during lock on is to encourage deflection.
Yeah you are right, it's very, very similar to Sekiro. You have to play aggressively and nail those deflections, as opposed to dodging and patiently waiting for an opening.
Yeah at first they nerfed the dodge so it makes everyone have to master parrying. A 'one way to play' style. Thankfully they changed that mindset and made the dodge viable. A useless dodge is a waste of a button.
Busy with other games is an understatement…this year has been insane in terms of great games released! Sadly don’t have time to play them all but love that we as gamers have so many options and they are all amazing. I think we are currently living in the golden age of gaming 😎
I always trust Jake when it comes to these reviews. As a first attempt in the souls genre, I’m very impressed with the reviews. Neo wiz might have a hit in their hands
The item usage animation, the health bars, enemies, environments, this looks like someone brought us Bloodbourne from an alternate dimension. And I love it
I'm so looking forward to playing this as my first ever Soulslike. The more linear and narrative focus is what convinced me to try it out and I can't wait!
If you want to try one of the souls games that’s truly linear I suggest demon souls and dark souls 3. Very coordinated and linear progression. No overwhelming mechanics. I never thought I’d like souls games, I was glad to be wrong
When lies of p was first announced I knew it was gonna be good. The devs had a really far out idea for a game, but they knew what they wanted and stuck to it to the end. The demo just solidified me being sold on the game. The combat, the animations, the environment, the music, everything was just amazing in only the first 2 sections of the game that the demo lets us play so I knew the game was gonna be awesome
I've always wanted to get into these games because I think once I get some sort of hang of it, they'll have some of the best gaming/atmospheric moments you can find. Other than a 5-6 hr attempt at Bloodborne and playing the Souls-lites like Star Wars Jedi or Darksiders 3, I haven't tried these. Well, this demo has me giving it a real attempt now. I was told by an online community that I'd be better off starting with Elden Ring, which is what I'm currently working my way through. Is it resolving all the confusing spec issues, etc.? No not really, but I am picking up some things here and there that I think will help me complete all of the FromSofts one day. I did start Lies of P demo as the far right class for heavy attacks and now in Elden Ring I'm running a Confessor w/ more Dex. I still wish I was able to spec correctly and easily try different classes/attacking types. Still seems like once you spend those souls, you're committing in a too real way.
I have never been a fan of the souls like games. I tried Bloodborne and Dark Souls, but it seemed to me that I needed to play at least 10 hours of the game, before starting the game😅 But I tried the demo of Lies of P, just because the mix of Pinnochio and the kind of steampunk vibes, and I have to admit that I am very impressed with how amazing it looked and how "easy" it was to pick up on the controls. I am definitely picking up Lies of P when the next pay check comes😀
This game sounds incredible, for an individual like myself, I love Souls type games.. it’s so much fun going on those adventures, and having the ability to create phenomenal builds- compare yours to your friends build. A lot of discussions about the lore, arguments about the lore, as well. Lol 😂
Enjoyed the demo, and it ran at 100fps steady on my old rig,a lot of people will try this one on gamepass and it will do very well i think ,i know it's the most polished game this year at least the demo ran well.
I remember thinking "There's no way this game will be good." when it was first announced. Then they dropped the demo and holy shit... Just based on the demo alone it felt like a 10/10 for me. Excited to see what else it has in store.
its really easy to create a short slice of fun gameplay. but you might notice that NO review says anything about the game thats not in the demo, even when using a "review copy". thats because they arent allowed to, because the rest of the game is pretty lacking. from what i understand, its also only about 10 hours long, with just a bare handful of weapons and skins to find.
Dodge can be a bit wonky sometimes but to be fair some (not all) of Souls games feel the same. But I fell in love with the combat, especially being able to do the different combos of weapons. To each their own.
@@sirhc9538 even dark souls 3 has more fluid combat than this. Saying its a souls like is a stretch. Art style its just an ode to bloodborne but its combat is no where near as fluid as elden ring. Its more like dark souls 2. It did not feel good too me. I think most souls fans will be utterly pissed that its marketed this way.
So I just finished Armored Core VI end of August, been playing Starfield since the beginning of September, & I plan on picking up Lies of P & the new Assassins Creed in October. Been a great few months of gaming to say the least, loving it
I've been looking forward to the game since the demo dropped. It's great to hear there are more mechanics and playstyles in the game that we haven't seen yet. I'm still playing Baldur's Gate 3, Starfield, and S ranking the final missions of Armored Core VI though, so I need to find some more gaming time! Maybe I can find a couple more personal relationships to neglect to give me a few more hours per week.
Elden Ring was my first souls like game...so Im giving this one a go too. So far so good but Ill have to do my best not to compare them because Elden was something amazing
The P Organ was one of my favorite mechanics in the game. I’ve gotten to a point where I hate skill trees. While we might unlock abilities in different orders, in the end our characters are exactly the same. In this game it would take multiple play throughs to unlock the entirety of the P Organ so by the end of a first play through there will be so many unique builds and it does feel like your making work for your play style.
Yea same here I’m not a bloodbourne or souls game type of guy but the gameplay videos of this and the graphics look very good. Is the demo still out to play??
I played the demo when it was released, and it just feels like it's a side game from Bloodbourne, which isn't anything bad, it just makes things so much smoother and makes it easier to play.
Just fyi, I know this is late but you do not upgrade blades and handles separately. You upgrade just the blade. Handles are strictly for scaling and move sets.
I absolutely loved the demo of this and can't wait to play it, I've never been that into "souls like" games before, but this has definitely opened up more gaming opportunities for me, im wanting to go try them all now 😂
If you want to try the Souls genre after Lies of P, make sure to do the true Soulsbornes first. And by that I mean, those made by FromSoftware itself (Elden Ring, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, Sekiro, Demon's Souls). They are still the undisputed kings of the genre they created and these are some of the greatest games of all time.
definitely try Bloodborne, Sekiro along with dark souls trilogy and demons souls. apart from Lies of P ; Thymesia, Steelrising are some of the better souls-likes/souls copycats. but Lies of P is tge best among them tgat are not actual soulsborne games. and if u end uo loving dark souls enough then try "salt and sanctuary" which is basically 2d dark souls. and if u like salt n sanctuary then you can hump into metroidvania genre of rabbithole with toptier games like Hollow knight, Blasphemous 1&2, Afterimage, Ender Lilies, Moonscar etc. good luck
Loved playing the demo and my god the SIZE of that lil thing! I kept saying “it’s gotta be over now” only to be told “nope play more!” Loved that as it really got me to figure out the combat.

Please please please look into Stellar Blade, thanks and keep up the amazing work
I did my first playthrough without ever using a specter or throwables just weapons, amulets, and legion arms, and ended up no damaging two of the bosses the feeling of perfect parry is exhilarating. if you like demon's souls Bloodborne dark souls and so on you'll absolutely LOVE this. without a doubt the best soulslike I've ever played and I've played a lot of them.
Been playing this on my PC recently and I actually love it so far. Best recommendation without spoilers. Electric attacks for puppets. Fire attacks for the "petrified" and acid for either.
Honestly speaking I think that Lies of P is super easier than other souls likes. And I don't think it's something bad , actually I think that this is the best newbie friendly souls like that isn't too easy but it's not that hard either. I still have half of the game left but I'm really enjoying it and I'm still in awe that such small and unknown South Korean studio did such a fantastic job.
I really like all the systems in this game, it's constantly throwing stuff at you. I really like Lies of P. If you are a souls fan this is a must! I love the victorian/gothic/steampunk vibes, like jake said its stands on its own merit but this is the closest we have come to next gen bloodborne.
Bloodborne was my first FromSoftware game, as they're currently known for after Demon's Soul anyway. Lies Of P reminds of Bloodborne, but doesn't feel quite as punishing, at least early on anyway lol. 9/10 for me.

As a souls vet whose beat Darks Souls 3, Elden Ring, and Dark Souls Remastered (each twice), I really love this game. It's probably the best loveletter to Souls games and a solid nod to Miyazaki and his team at Fromsoftware. After playing it for the past two days, I can say, the bosses are solid, challenging, and powered by casual tears (e.g., the Scrapped Watchman made me say a few colorful words and nearly made me throw my controller at the tv), the combat is smooth, and setting is absolutely gorgeous. I totally recommend playing this game.
Finally been waiting for lies of P since it was announced, more excited to play this than Starfield, no heat thrown at starfield but how people were hyped for starfield mine was for Lies of P😁
You can tell he has a lot of respect for what they’re going for here. Even if a comparison to Bloodborne is a bit reductive, P is going to scratch that itch for me. I’ve been obsessed with Bloodborne since I first played it in 2017. Looks like I’ll be playing (and replaying) this for a long time, too.
It's just another souls like clone of a game. The dodge and parry are trash. The camera angles on boss fights are clunky. This game is garbage. Not sorry.
Coming back 5 months later and man, what a game. It's just so good. The lore, the weapon crafting, abilities, everything is just perfect for me. Could use a few more outfits but that's about it. Can't wait for the Dorothy game.

My first Souls game was the Demon's Souls remake. I loved that game and managed to beat it without too much trouble. I then went straight to Sekiro and the combat instantly clicked, it's my favourite FromSoft game. I tried Elden Ring for about 15 hours but felt the open world didn't work, and found myself having to grinddddd for an hour every couple of hours to break even and that just wasn't fun. I was very excited for this game due to the art style, the world, their take on the source material etc but thought maybe I had my fill of Souls games. This is one of the most unoriginal games I've ever played. Lies of P blatantly rips off of FromSoft's Soulsborne games so much that I began to hate it the further I progressed into my playthrough. It would be easier to list the things that Lies of P doesn’t lift from FromSoft’s games than it would be to list the things that it does. If Lies of P didn't rip off so much from FromSoft's games, then it'd be an OK 7/10 experience for me, but I just can't get past that severe lack of originality. I give this game a light 5 out of 10.

How difficult is it overall
@drankFoD
it's pretty difficult but if you're smart about how you level up and your weapon upgrades and learning about boss attack patterns, then it's manageable. These games are all about trial and error. Accept you're going to die many times. Frustration only sets in when no progress is made.
my favorite part of this game is when P says “it’s lying time” and Ps all over the place
lmao
That part had me on the edge of my seat in anticipation.
One of the lines of all time.
Seminal moment
This has aroused my P organ
I’ve been waiting for this game to come out since I played the demo. It’s continued to look better and better the more they’ve shown. I think this will end up being a classic.
Yeah it looks really good. I've tried some of the knock off FromSoft games like Nioh/Code Vein/The Surge and none of them really did it for me. This one looks great.
@@grizzlywhisker I’ve tried those three too and just the demo of Lies of P crushes those imo
Might grab this one also. It looks... "promising". (see what I did there?)
The thing about Nioh is it's really not for the casual player. You can really go deep in the weeds on the theory craft/build crafting front. It's an amazing game if you like having your brain fully engaged to optimize builds for endgame and such.
I will buy this on sale in about 6 months.

I completed the game too, I'm on my seccond walkthrough and now the story seems completely amazing. I want a sequel.
Yes I agree it’s the first souls like game I’ve come close to beat. So much fun. Challenging but not to the point where I want to give up. Also Laxasia only took me 3 tries compared to the brotherhood where it took me like 6-8 lol

@@clubbizarredefinitely not better than Elden ring, but better than bloodborne
I won't pre-order brand new but I will pick up a pre own copy at my local gamestop!
if you have game pass, it will be available on day 1
i beat the demo 3 times, once for each playstyle, about 18-19 hours in general, love it a lot, i never beat any souls game but this one might become one of my fav games in general because of it's concept and style
@spiritboxyxbox i wanna finish sekiro if i wanna get this but im stuck on genichiro dawg😭

Played the demo and it was fun. Love how they look Pinocchio and twisted it into something new and awesome
Thank you for the before you buy :D I can’t wait for this game to come out!
thanks for watching it!
Bought the game because of your comment, don't regret it
I trust Jake... but dear god this looks like Bloodborn with a paint job. (Even the sounds and map look the same). When does a homage become a ripoff
Well if you like this game you should try DS3, bloodborne or elden ring. It's not exactly the same but it's still a souls like.
For those who didn't play the demo: The deflection works like Sekiro's, it doesn't disbalance the enemy for a riposte like in BB.
Standard block: recoverable hp loss (easy but costly)
Perfect guard: no hp loss and build enemy's nonvisible stagger meter.
So like Wo Long Fallen Dynasty then.
Yeah at first they nerfed the dodge so it makes everyone have to master parrying. A 'one way to play' style. Thankfully they changed that mindset and made the dodge viable.
A useless dodge is a waste of a button.
Was a big blood borne fan and this looks like it could scratch that itch. Thanks for the review guys!
thanks for watching it! hope you have fun
Blood borne was my REAL intro. Shyt was fire
Playing it now. It's a beautiful game and very challenging. The amount of customization is no joke. There's a lot of cool builds you can make.

And I love it
I'm not a soulslike fan, but after watching this review coupled with the artstyle of the game, I'm actually interested in experiencing it.
I felt that way when Bloodborne came out
I'm so looking forward to playing this as my first ever Soulslike. The more linear and narrative focus is what convinced me to try it out and I can't wait!
my only advice is to learn to love to die as a way to learn to play
If you want to try one of the souls games that’s truly linear I suggest demon souls and dark souls 3. Very coordinated and linear progression. No overwhelming mechanics. I never thought I’d like souls games, I was glad to be wrong
Literally just play dark souls then first???
@@S-K-log-W So you played and completed the game already?
When lies of p was first announced I knew it was gonna be good. The devs had a really far out idea for a game, but they knew what they wanted and stuck to it to the end. The demo just solidified me being sold on the game. The combat, the animations, the environment, the music, everything was just amazing in only the first 2 sections of the game that the demo lets us play so I knew the game was gonna be awesome
It sucks lol, shitty rip off
I've always wanted to get into these games because I think once I get some sort of hang of it, they'll have some of the best gaming/atmospheric moments you can find.
Actually, you can completely reallocate your Attributes in Elden Ring.
Having played Dark Souls series, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring, I am well trained for these kind of games.
How did it go?

I dunno the dodge felt really bad imo
@@Walamonga1313yep dodge and combat felt janky af.
Did they fix the wierd dodge mechanic from the demo? It felt like something was wrong

The fact we'll probably never get a Bloodborne 2 hurts so much
It's just another souls like clone of a game. The dodge and parry are trash. The camera angles on boss fights are clunky. This game is garbage. Not sorry.
Just from watching this vid- the block mechanic is giving me that Sekiro vibe. XD I suck on timing those blocks.

After watching this review, I can't wait to play this game.
Thank you !

I agree and the combat sucks especially the parry and dodge mechanics, the enemy design is also ugly.
Thankfully I refunded the game on time, still frustrated tho cause I was expecting a good game.
