Cosmetics might not affect combat aspect, but one reviewer said they found at least three outfits that had positive effect when interacting with NPCs. According to them reading the lore behind these cosmetic items can help you guess that some NPCs might act differently if you were to wear them.
I mean we already know Lady Antonia will react to you if you do the gesture while wearing the school uniform in the demo.(possibly hinting P is based on deceased son of Geppeto and Antonia)

I’m an old man. Cosmetics in RPGs are awful. The whole point is to earn the gear and look cool. If all the best stuff is behind a storefront then I’m not gonna play or buy the game.
I miss old school WoW. I want people to see my mount and shit their pants. That part of gaming is long gone

the demo was so long i feel like it showed they were really confident in their game
for me, the most memorable moment is when that rabbit open the "liar" coffin. that is a surprise great chereography
I totally know what you mean about the vibe. It seems like such a shallow thing to focus on, but I honestly think more games should focus on atmosphere as a priority. If the atmosphere is bad or boring, it doesn’t really matter how good the gameplay or writing is. It’s always nice to see developers being aware of that.
I bought it yesterday and it actually filled the Bloodborne shaped hole in my heart. I am content. I wish enemies were a bit more difficult but the bosses are awesome.

I loved Bloodborne and DS3. Elden Ring and Sekiro gave up half way thru them. Armored Core 6 is great.
I gotta try Surge. Im mainly excited for The Surges

The mad lads at round 8 went into making this game with a prior game being an MMO (blessed unleashed), the hurdle was huge and I'm glad to hear they nailed it. I was interested in the title the moment it was announced, mainly because of its aesthetic and atmosphere, I'm usually not a fan of soulslikes, but having played the demo, I'm definitely jumping into this one.
I'm so thankful for game companies putting out playable demos. Being able to preview how the game can run on my hardware sold me on Lies of P after being hyped from the trailers. More game companies should do this if they believe in their product!
Yea I wish it was more common these days, but unfortunately it has been proven that putting out demos actually hurts sales generally...Maybe not every time, but on average...I was suprised at how well Lies of P runs on my PC, I have just gotten used to everything running like crap I guess...
Jake’s one of the few VG critics/content creators with the balls to admit he struggles with Soulslike combat. Way too many “git gud” bros out there.

I mean, the vast majority of reviewers are pretty good at video games. Of course they would be. Would you be happy if a reviewer gave a game a bad score because they couldn't beat the toturial?

I was so impressed by the scale and worldbuilding. This needs a sequel or a successor with another theme. They got a good formular with very solid new unique mechanics.

@@JoostShinomaybe narrative and story scale? looks like they’re really going for building a mythos to this universe. and on the levels’ scale, personally i think it helped the game, being super linear streamlined it and probably enabled it to look that good and run THAT well.
We’ve been blessed with so many games this year. I’m still on my first run of BG3, haven’t even opened Starfield yet and now I’ve got an amazing souslike to enjoy as well? Thats only in the last 2 months! Insanity. Next month is Spider-Man 2 as well!

I'm about 10 hours in and I 100% agree. There are a few things about the combat mechanics and enemy attacks I don't love, but everything else is absolutely awesome, just the general vibe of the world and all the visuals are so good. They nailed it
The game looks really cool. I’m always glad to see success and excellence in the gaming space, even when it’s a game I probably won’t play. I just love seeing the creativity, and seeing people enjoying playing games. Hope people have a blast playing it.
I was already considering playing it despite having never played a Soulslike in my life (major noob over here to games, just got into gaming last year), but you have absolutely sold me. I'm neck deep in Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield still and have yet to get to Sea of Stars, which I also really want to play, so here's hoping I can get to this soon as well. There have just been too many amazing games this year and the backlog never stops growing! Thanks for all you do Jake, have a good day :)

Been super excited about this since I first heard about it… I can not express how happy I am that this game isn’t a flop.

You got a wingback chair and dark furniture going on, really cool. Maybe some dark drapes / curtains for the window to take away the sharp edges of the frame and you're golden.
I'm going for an Art-Deco 'bio-shock' inspired theme with my place, but without the flooding, so know the work that goes into that kind of project.
Just from the demo the atmosphere hooked me. I really enjoyed the music albums and that's usually not the case for me. It all just goes together perfectly!
Downloaded it yesterday and I'm just now at the Shocking Bobby guy. I'm with you on struggling with these but I also like the grind because I don't just FLY through them. It's slick, it's stylish, I'm glad it's here and I'm loving it.
Same loved this and didn't think I would not liking soul likes but the setting and story were brilliant and I liked the linearity of it tbh

There have been some bangers on there, you've missed out. Granted there are still some other bangers like Hollow Knight, the Ori games, and I think Mass Effect Legendary Edition is on there. Maybe NieR Automata too? All incredible games. Hades is a big one you missed out on, sadly it's gone now
When the hotel opens up at the end...bro that holy shit moment was so epic. Coming back 6 months later and man what a masterpiece. They hinted at a wizard of Oz sequel after the credits with Dorothy clicking her heels together. So well done.
I was quite tickled by the Portrait of Dorian Gray reference. Underappreciated English canon.

Yes the aesthetic of this game in the trailers sold me hard. I was just praying for good gameplay and so far it seems as if this will be worth picking up judging from the reviews.
Game is awesome some little clunkiness but you have to unlock a lot of the Mechanics but the story is Amazing twist of Pinocchio world. Feels like a new Bloodbourne
There will be moments in this game you will rage, but it is wonderful despite the hard enemies. Kinda reminds me of playing blood-borne again and I'm loving it
I keep trying to play these kind of games, and keep bouncing off them totally, but I do love the visual style so it'll be watching a Lets Play for me.
Souls games are like horror games for me, I hate playing them myself but I love watching other people play them. I actually did buy Elden Ring just to support FromSoft but I've never opened it. lol

It's worth noting how amazingly well optimized this game is on PC, it ran at a flawless 60fps on my steam deck without breaking a sweat and it still looks amazing.

I'm on the same boat. I'm gassed out of From Software games atm. With the limited time i have between work, school and gym, I don't have time to dive into that style of game. I still like the style though. I have a back log of From style games to play.

Hey Jake, glad to hear you really like this game i was full of excitement & anticaption for the exact same reasons you were, the aesthetic. I'm not really into the souls-like games but i did play Blood Borne in preparation for LOP and i really dug it, the difficulty is exhausting but the dope style & aesthetic kept me in it.
I have a deep fascination for history so I'm a huge slut for anything Steam Punk, Victorian, Art Deco & Dark Academia, especially when coupled with Fables or Science Fiction. Ive been itching to see more of these themes in gaming so i knew LOP would be perfect for me, can't wait to pick it up.
The Guillermo del Toro Pinocchio was one of my favorite movies this year so I'm very ready to play a video game Pinocchio right now. Can't wait! 😁

Throughout your entire video I was SO scared for your PS5! It seems to be at the very edge of a tiny table. Every time you moved your arms during your review, I was terrified you would knock it off!
I didn't finish the demo, but I've been playing Lies of P nonstop for a couple hours today. I got totally hooked, the devs crafted a masterpiece.

This game is a literal work of art. I hate the comparison to Bloodborne, but that was also a work of art and thats why this works so well.

Honestly I thought it was just like a detective game or something. But I’m obsessed right now. Lies of P is something I didn’t know I needed.
One more thing that I would like to add and i do not see people talk about it enough, is NG+. Without spoiling anything, I will just say that the developers did a brilliant job during boss fights to give you additional information and angle about what actually happened in the world.

I absolutely loved this game! I can't wait for a sequel
If you're someone who likes heavy hitting classes in soulslikes where you can tank some damage, swing big binks (or just greatswords) and prefer a slower paced combat, this game will absolutely crush you. I completed so many different soulslikes, including FromSoftware's games (Sekiro twice which is basically 8 playthroughs), both Nioh games, both Surge games, Ashen, which has an absolutely fucking brutal completion with the DLC and Lies of P absolutely crushes me like no other game did. They've put heavy/slower weapons into the game, but pretty much every elite and boss are designed with fast paced playstyle in mind. The amount of delayed attacks those enemies have or attacks with 0 transparency at all is staggering. Just play with faster, lighter weapons and throwables, playing with heavy type class doesn't reward you at all, unless you're a total freak.
I also bought the game because it was Pinocchio Souls, so count me as one of the people who didn't laugh at the concept. What we got in the end was far better than I had expected, especially is you aim for the best ending.
Thanks to the soundtrack, I ended up discovering that some of those record songs are remakes of music from Neowiz's previous game. As such, I thought the DJMAX easter eggs were cool despite me never heard of DJMAX itself till Lies of P.

Anyone else reminded of the Dune (2021) main character Paul Atreides?? I'm pretty forgiving with souls likes, but hearing Jake psyched on this and the demo, has just reinforced me wanting this game.

If there was ever a studio that should catch FromSoftware’s attention it’s Round8. These guys made the best game…if not the only game close to a Bloodborne-like game that hits so many notes almost to perfection.

I'm so happy that this game turned out good because when I seen the first reveal trailer long before the game ever showed gameplay I knew that it was going to be right up my alley. It did not disappoint I've had a blast playing this game :D

One thing id like to put out there, is I'm tired of souls like games, and I wish with all my heart that any studio would make a dynasty warriors/ samurai warriors game that just brings that genre back, because I loved those games before they failed super bad lately.... I miss dynasty warriors, hurts my heart they failed so bad...
I knew nothing about it but picked it up on the deck and am having a blast.
The game is superb, and honestly probably one of my favorite souls like ever. He does so many things, right I feel like it changes enough things from the general gameplay of other souls like to stand out and the mechanical arm feels like it really fits with the theme and doesn’t feel like us just trying to copy other souls like. I am on new game plus and I’ve been playing it on and off the last few days after I beat it but it is honestly super solid and I’m really excited to see where they’re taking the ending or if there’s gonna be some kind of DLC or some thing and there’s still a lot of things that the community hasn’t solved yet that I’m really excited to see the answers to those questions when we figure it out

This game is getting such good reviews it should do well. Pity Lords of the Fallen is coming out early next month and that's what I set my eyes on getting first. I'll get Lies of P some time after.

17 hours in and i love every bit especially the difficulty and the gameplay mechanics it’s like the child of dark souls 3 and sekiro which is just great ! And the characters are pretty much interesting and the story keeps you wanting more .
