Dear sir, I'm putting a comment here only to be part of the people who give more chances to the youtube's algorithms to refer to you more often. You are definitively unique. Your reviews show how much of a passionate gamer you are along with your high analysis skills. This gives to people the most in depth and objective opinion we can find on the web and I'm reading about the video game industry and playing since 1984 and read/watched the reviews and previews of hundreds of people since 39 years. I don't know whether you can afford to delay your reviews regarding the impact of having your reviews published as early as possible but I wish you can in order to deliver the best criticism on a video game that can be found whether it's on the web or in paper magazines. Thank you with all my heart. By the way, I don't see the fact that you camera messes up completely when you're pushed into a corner as a default in Lies of P. It's like finding a way to heal during a fight and have some breath to do so. Getting into a corner is a sufficient way for me to take high risks within a fight to avoid it. It's part of the gameplay to avoid it but it's just my humble opinion for having dealt with the maths of 3D camera's movements management. Being cornered is always to be avoided in a game at all costs during fights and it applies to many genres. Again it's personal... Thanks a million again for your videos.
Glad you you really drilled in the emphasis on blocking. This game will punish you hard if you don't master the perfect guard. Yet for some reason a number of other reviews/forum posts have mentioned that they "never really bothered to learn the perfect guard" and then simultaneously rail against the game's "near-impossible" difficulty.

And that’s not counting the time to write a video script, cut out footage, editing, voiceover for YT. I'm loving this game so far. Bloodborne is my all time favorite game and I feel like Lies of P is a love letter to it. Or maybe a tightly written correspondence. The only knock I have is the window for a perfect guard is very tight. Like if you struggled with Sekiro, this game will humble you on the regular. Great review as always. I am terrible at souls-like games, but I love them anyway for their esthetics, so I keep trying them. I have to say that, so far, I am LOVING this game and I have gotten farther in this game than many I have tried. The look and atmosphere is stunning and the combat is fun and feels really impactful. Also, at least up until the point I have gotten to (I am in part 6 of I think 11), I have found it to be surprisingly friendly for terrible players like me if you are not too prideful to use the fight buddy, but I have been told it gets REALLY hard after this point so I may get stuck here. I also have 25 hours in the game so far when real players can possible complete the whole game in this time. So I don't want to misrepresent this as easy by any means. I went the route of having Advance as my primary damage stat. This has allowed me to switch to slow and fast weapons without losing much damage as I am relying more on the status damage. I also like the fact that it is also improving elemental throwables making them super effective as well. I have been using a shock weapon on the puppets and fire on monsters. I also have an acid weapon that I suspect will be good against something specific too but I am not sure what yet. I also really like the heart modification and weapon modification system (yes I know it's not called a heart but I refuse to use the ridiculous name they gave it). If I were to have a small gripe though is that the game intentionally limits the creativity of weapon and hilt combos by making weapons bad at certain attack types and hilts are locked to specific attack types and you are penalized if they don't match up. For example some weapons are "good" at slashing and "bad" at stabbing, so if you move the weapon to a new hilt that is a stabbing hilt, it does less damage. The penalties always make sense logically, but it does hurt you if you want to make some of the fun and creative combinations the system is capable of.
@@VDViktor This is pure speculation, but I think that others who have way more experience and skill with other souls games may be used to a very different timing system. Because I have no expectations, the odd slow timing does not bother me as much. The other thing is block and parry. It seems like (other than BB, everyone does a lot of dodging. For me the LoP block parry system makes the game more forgiving as a failed parry is just a block that I can recover from.
I just love these games for their difficulty. I have Spend 600h in elden ring and am in General a really bad player, but every boss killed, sometimes even after hundreds of tries gives such a pleasure. In the second the boss is killed, all frustration from before gets converted into pure joy and satisfaction. I just started into this game and am really looking forward. Thank you for your review!
I am always amazed by how fast you 100% games. I am glad you are getting the recognition you deserve. The amount of work you put into these 100% videos is just insane.
It makes me so happy when I see reviewers dedicate a small section of their video to Steamdeck performance. I feel like the Steamdeck is almost fully accepted as the "third console" of this console generation. And it fills that spot rather well. It's extremely budget friendly, has easy to use UI, and a great baby's first step into PC gaming. As someone who's balling on a budget but would still like to play the latest games during my free time every now and then, the steamdeck has been a lifesaver. I know not every AAA game that releases works great, but being able to get through Armored Core 6 and now Life of P portably has been amazing. Thanks for the review!
You've 100% convinced me to get this game when i was so on the fence about it, i played the heck out of the Demo after this, and im getting this game ASAP! I love this more than Dark Souls, i dont know what it is about this game, but im completely in love with it, ive found my perfect Forever game, Lies of P is a phenomenal game im completely smitten by it, i do not know how this slipped past my radar, if word of mouth sells this game, i implore more people to try it, i seriously do not know why this hasn't been talked about more, the world and lore is breathtaking and im just in awe and mesmerised by it all, with great thanks i thank you Mr Mortismal for bringing this game more so to my attention, and here i am thinking its just another 'souls' game, there so much more to this than what ive realised, wow this games a trip n a half 🤘
On my must-buy list. The demo completely won me over a few months back. I remember the initial screencaps that dropped for this a few years back and thinking... "Please let this one end up being good! This theme and gameplay combination are so perfect together". Glad to see my faith was rewarded lol!
Quick feedback after ~10 hours of play (roughly 50% of the game) : pay attention, the demo isn't necessarily a good image of the game. It's as if they put all the playtest and QA on this first part, but kinda missed the rest. More than hard, the game is unfair with ennemies chaining combos on you like a Street Fighters pro player.
@@krusher181 The aesthetic, The Belle Epoque setting, the Steampunk inspired technology, taking the original darker Italian version of Pinocchio as a core inspiration. All of that combined with soulslike gameplay is *chef's kiss*
Thanks for another banger review. Unfortunately if it has denuvo that’s a no for me, I don’t like third party software with more power over my OS than I have.
you can see his steam account that he has linked in the description...the answer is over 160 hours in 2 weeks...so our man is playing video games for over 10 hours a day :D
You're the reviewer I go to by default. Because you're always fair and reasonable. And it really matters that you play the whole game. Because sometimes a game that take time to "get going" (or has a steep learning curve) can turn into an incredible experience. Plenty of book are like that too; you have to get through the "blah" before you get to "cant put it down". Thank you.
I love how you do steam deck review in your reviews :-) I am buying game for both my PC and steam deck and this game with this graphics play at 60 fps on steam deck, i was shocked!
Denuvo = they don't get my money. I know some other ppl feel the same, so hopefully more will do the same and they will finally learn this is NOT a fair practice. Thanks for letting us know, great content as always!
my biggest minor gripes are: 1. the "starting classes'" offensive attribute splits disincentivize you from changing your build later, since you would then be missing 6 points from your main stat. just put those three stats at 10 for all starting classes. 2. some non elemental weapons should have handles with advance scalings added to their already existing scalings, this wouldn't make any difference for people playing with non elemental blades, but advance builds who already only have 3 weapons for more than half the game could at least get some variety from the assembly system. overall i loved playing through the game though.
I love this game so much. Amazed me. One of my favourites. Glad you enjoyed it too. I should try one of those CRPGs now to take a break from all the action lol
Do you script your videos or just record on the fly? I cant get my head around how you get time to 100% and put out half-hour reviews so damn quickly, impressive!

@@tedwilson1477 Makes one wonder why do we need to invest money and time advanced technology to automate work when we can just squeeze every last drop of vitality from a human being and get the job done in a way said advanced technology simply cannot. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a train to catch at the Exploit-station.
I was pleasantly surprised with this game….if you liked bloodborne and dark souls 3 I think you’ll enjoy this one. It’s not perfect but for a souls like it does what it’s trying to very well while adding a few new cool systems like weapon handle swapping.
Fantastic detailed review Mort. I loved Lies personally. Absolutely loved the world and weapon system. Loved the combat and customisation. Really loved the hotel hub as well and playing the music and little details like how the cat reacts differently to you depending on how human you are etc. I do feel it was too linear though, Wish it opened up more like dark souls 1 or 2. Also some of the very late game areas were quite dull in comparison to early and mid game. Lastly the enemy variety got a bit repetitive at times. Overall I loved it though. Bring on that dlc!
Thanks for telling us about the sly alip of denovo right before release. It's nice that unlike them you don't bury the lead. That shady move alone almost turns me off the game completely
Bro the rewiew is amazing, the onyl thing i would like to say is , you don't have a pretty high end computer, you got the highest performing gpu out here :D
Great review thank you so much and it made me purchase a month with Gamepass and I am pre installing it as writing this. I like how you present the different aspect of the game split into areas such as crafting, combat, world etc very well done
You, SkillUp, & ACG are the only reviewers I put any stock into. You’re an animal for 100% all these games, especially since this year has been so stacked.
I’ve heard a lot of praise for this game but I’m far more curious about the angle of how much content the game has to offer and how replayable it is. So as always I really appreciate your reviews, they mean so much more than other content creators where it’s never even clear how much they’ve played.
Your Positives/Negatives pretty much line up with me after I put into 16 hours into the game I don't know how you did it but your reviews always accurate and reliable , if you say you have clone yourself to 100% this game it would be a LIE but I won't surprised lol
I saw this and it reminded me of Vampyr. Vampyr is soo good. The intrigue, ambiance combined with the protagonist struggle is top notch. I can't wait to try this game.
I never saw the second phase as a problem. Most first phases are simple and easy to manage and, as you said, you grow to expect them after chapter 6 (Romeo).
You should have more subs than any review channel. You getting 100% on the game before review gives you the most robust review and your opinion should hold way more value than a reviewer from ign
Game comes out: Me: Waiting for reviews expecting first impressions from reviewers. Mort: Here's the game after 100%. And, every single time it's unexpected
"Every boss having big clunky first phase, followed by lighter second phase with long combos got tiring..." you've summed up my issue with nearly every Souls game since Bloodborne first did this. The first time it happened, it was incredibly exciting. Now it's just 'okay when does the actual fight start' (except for Sekiro, which has actually interesting first and second phases, and even managed to brilliantly subvert this twist with on boss).
One thing a lot of reviews completely miss is the fact that weapons have no stat requirements this is extremely important, since when leveling up you will want to focus on the defensive stats since those are a lot more important than offensive ones especially early on the game. The offensive stats will increase your damage but very slowly. I don't know I think this an extremely important tip and shouldn't be missed.
Eh it's kind of debatable. Getting a little boost to offensive stats early game can be the difference of one less hit in a combo on common mobs, which can be very helpful for groups and the runback from a boss fight retry. I find it more important in the early game to be honest because blocking isn't as detrimental when you can regain your health back while quickly eliminating the threat at the same time
idk about you, but just 6 stats from 9 to 15 boosted your damage by 30-50 which is extremely potent in the early game (no soft cap yet) compared to just measly 100+HP from the same stats investment aka literally nothing considering there no enemy in the early game that can one shot you. i mean you can tickle boss to death? sure, if they don't end you first lol.
A negative I will add is that the slower weapons are quite difficult to use, because there is no poise system. Fromsoft games recognise that slow hard-hitting weapons often require you to trade hits with a fast enemy, but in this game your attack will be interrupted by a faster enemy, so I found that I always put shorter and faster hilts on weapons just so that I wouldn't constantly be interrupted. This might seem minor but it effectively makes 1/3 of all weapons awful to use.
I really appreciate a review that's segmented neatly, discussing Gameplay, Story, Optimization, its problems and criticism of it, et, I really don't like how a lot of reviewers are all over the place, ADHD like crazy and even if its a good ramble its still a ramble and a lot of the game is left unknown which makes it a bad review
Slipping in Denuvo is a very scummy move. Steam should have rules against doing thing like this. Something like "If you add Denuvo to the game then you have to wait atleast 3 months before you can sale it starting from the anoucement date" or something like that.
This is the best optimized PC game of the year, for real. No DLSS or anything needed and it runs amazingly. I was truly shocked, lol. Which is funny cause it should be normal thing.
Denuvo is a hard pass. They will remove it in about a year, and the price will also fall, as these games all seem to do. No reason to play games like this at launch and no reason to pre-order anything EVER again. Thanks again for the time you put in Mort!
Sometimes the games camera is acting weird when next to the wall??? Well then it fits Soulslike games even more for that. All From software games have that.
Is it possible to open the glass cases in the trinity sanctums? Between the triangular chairs? I have attempted to combine multiple equipment pieces in the first sanctum, without success.

I was waiting for this one! Can’t wait to play it
I am always amazed by how fast you 100% games. I am glad you are getting the recognition you deserve. The amount of work you put into these 100% videos is just insane.
I absolutely adore this game and will replay it in my rotation of timeless fromsoft games.
Excited for more
It makes me so happy when I see reviewers dedicate a small section of their video to Steamdeck performance.
Third? You got Xbox, Sony and Nintendo… so def would be 4th.
@@krusher181 The nintendo switch would be part of the last console generation. I.e. ps4, xbox one. Not this current one.
I not even made my mind up if I want get this, an you already 100% it. Great content as usual.
Performance in this game is so underrated. It can run smoothly on higher settings with a GTX 1650 which is so rare in 2023.
Great video as per usual!
Best reviewer on the block
I just started with the game but am very impressed so far. Runs great on PC too.
@@StephSinalcogit gud
@@StephSinalcoyou know you can block and Parry?
I don’t see how the theme fits the gameplay at all tbh. You mean the visuals?
@@krusher181 The aesthetic, The Belle Epoque setting, the Steampunk inspired technology, taking the original darker Italian version of Pinocchio as a core inspiration. All of that combined with soulslike gameplay is *chef's kiss*
Game is running flawless so far on ps5
Thanks for another banger review. Unfortunately if it has denuvo that’s a no for me, I don’t like third party software with more power over my OS than I have.

Easily the best video game reviewer out there and I always look to this channel first when new games come out. Your reviews are spot on!
God I’m so excited to play this in the morning. It releases on gamepass at 11am 🎉🎉🎉🎉 great video as well 👌
Denuvo = they don't get my money. I know some other ppl feel the same, so hopefully more will do the same and they will finally learn this is NOT a fair practice. Thanks for letting us know, great content as always!
my biggest minor gripes are:
1. the "starting classes'" offensive attribute splits disincentivize you from changing your build later, since you would then be missing 6 points from your main stat. just put those three stats at 10 for all starting classes.
2. some non elemental weapons should have handles with advance scalings added to their already existing scalings, this wouldn't make any difference for people playing with non elemental blades, but advance builds who already only have 3 weapons for more than half the game could at least get some variety from the assembly system.
overall i loved playing through the game though.
Great Review, More reviews should start with Perfomance as yours did.
I'm one of the few that doesn't really like souls type games but I've been absolutely loving this one
A lot of people don’t like souls type games…
@@krusher181 really worth the effort to type that huh?
I love this game so much. Amazed me. One of my favourites. Glad you enjoyed it too. I should try one of those CRPGs now to take a break from all the action lol
Do you script your videos or just record on the fly? I cant get my head around how you get time to 100% and put out half-hour reviews so damn quickly, impressive!
Idk what it's called, but he has a video where he goes into great detail about his process. He has maximized efficiency to an extreme degree and also works 15-hour days at times. He's like Rock Lee, he's a genius of hard work.

@@MortismalGaming You're like the human version of perfected AI content creation. Extreme efficiency.

So impressed how fast and thorough you do these
I was pleasantly surprised with this game….if you liked bloodborne and dark souls 3 I think you’ll enjoy this one. It’s not perfect but for a souls like it does what it’s trying to very well while adding a few new cool systems like weapon handle swapping.
I have gamepass but I still bought it to support the developer and because I’m impatient and wanted to play this weekend.
playing the game on gamepass is still a way to support the developer, just fyi (but you probably alr knew)@@alexrogers9051
@Leaf__22 it has a dash when locked on like bb , and the guard rally mechanic is similar to bloodborne's too
Great review. Lokking forward getting this game soon. Im new to these types of games but I love a challenge.
I always thought this game looked alright, but now I'm pretty excited for it. Seems they added a lot of cool things to the genre
its new and sorta free cant beat that but what sucks for me its that its a souls like.
@@purextreme5460do you just dislike soulslike?
You 100% a game in 6 days? Im impressed on many levels. Here is 101% for you… MY RESPECT EARNED😂
Great review as always!!
You are a freakin gaming machine my guy.
On the consumer level that makes sense for gaming, correct.
Been waiting for ur review on this one. Potential is high but also kinda unknown too
This is what I was waiting for! Mort you legend.

@@MortismalGaming Thanks 👍
You are my new source for reliable reviews.
I’ve heard a lot of praise for this game but I’m far more curious about the angle of how much content the game has to offer and how replayable it is.
So as always I really appreciate your reviews, they mean so much more than other content creators where it’s never even clear how much they’ve played.
Your Positives/Negatives pretty much line up with me after I put into 16 hours into the game
I don't know how you did it but your reviews always accurate and reliable , if you say you have clone yourself to 100% this game it would be a LIE but I won't surprised lol
Dude, your review is awesome. This is how you do a review. Other reviews are just wasting our time.
I saw this and it reminded me of Vampyr. Vampyr is soo good. The intrigue, ambiance combined with the protagonist struggle is top notch. I can't wait to try this game.
You are an an absolute machine of efficiency
Good video!
How is this even possible (early access I know) - seriously though you are a machine and bring out the best content
The game runs perfectly on my PS5. I love the flame thrower Legion arm
You give Jirard the Completionist a run for his money. 😤😤😤👍👍👍
Cool glad you reviewed this
Game comes out:
Me: Waiting for reviews expecting first impressions from reviewers.
Love your vids. Also, fart.
This game runs and looks great on PS4 Pro, which was a surprise. Expect between 50 fps at the top and 30 at the very lowest, at all times.
Regarding the souls like comparison. The blocking and parrying is reminiscent of Sekiro. If you like that style of gameplay mechanic. Youll like this
Denuvo is a hard pass. They will remove it in about a year, and the price will also fall, as these games all seem to do. No reason to play games like this at launch and no reason to pre-order anything EVER again. Thanks again for the time you put in Mort!
Agree 100%.
6 days and you 100% it. amazing.
Sometimes the games camera is acting weird when next to the wall??? Well then it fits Soulslike games even more for that. All From software games have that.
You are a god among men. Idk how you platinum all these souls games but it's hella impressive
Just by looking I get bioshock infinite vibes with the enemies and a souls game. Can’t wait 2 play
Will get into it post Starfield and BG completion
The greatest enemy in any souls game is the camera. Seems like they were very faithful to their inspiration.
So far this is my game of the year is just that great.
A contender for sure I agree with you 💯 👌
I’m down with linear since Elden Ring felt like too big of a cheeseburger once they gave me a horse and two maps lol
The story really reminds me much more of "I Robot" than Pinocchio. Something I find super cool.
i know i am late to the party, but i played it on 1660ti laptop and it played very smoothly, granted with most of the settings were at medium.
Can you return games in steam if deNuvo is added post puchase?
(yes/no/complicated-mixed/uncertain/dunno)?
Its just the normal refund policy as far as I know
