    • @HenriFaust
      @HenriFaust Рік тому

      Why would more acid lead to less burping and not more? More acid means that more sodium bicarbonate will be neutralized to release CO2 gas.
      *Na+(aq) + HCO3-(aq) + H+(aq) + Cl-(aq) → H2CO3(aq) + Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq) → H20(l) + CO2(g) + Na+(aq) + Cl-(aq)*
      *OR*
      *HCO3-(aq) + H+(aq) → H2CO3(aq) → H20(l) + CO2(g)*
      Is there some other component to stomach contents at play besides aqueous HCL? This is _basically_ the same as the classic baking soda and vinegar reaction.

      I noticed this as well. The bicarbonate of soda will neutralise acid, producing CO2 (carbon dioxide gas) and water. The CO2 gas is what causes you to burp. If you have LOW stomach acid then there is less of (or no) reaction and thus less (or no) gas produced. Therefore if you drink the bicarb and you do NOT burp within a few minutes, this indicates low stomach acid.

    • @IndigoPsychology
      @IndigoPsychology 6 місяців тому

      If it neutralises u don’t burb. Because it reacts perfectly it melts in and it doesn’t cause co2 it jsut gets absorbed easily ! He is correct!

    You mixed up the baking soda test. The results are exactly the opposite. You will burp within 5 minutes if you have acid in your stomach because it will react with the baking soda. Just like vinegar and baking soda. Not burping is a sign of an alkaline stomach.

    Sharing these priceless notes from Dr Berg:
    The best tests for a stomach acid deficiency:
    1. Riddler’s gastric acid reflux point test
    Press on your rib cage one inch below your breastbone and one inch to the left. If the area is tender, you may lack stomach acid.
    2. The baking soda test
    Dissolve 1/4 tsp. of baking soda in eight ounces of water and drink it in the morning before eating. If you don’t have enough acid in your stomach, you may start burping after one to five minutes.
    3. The betaine hydrochloride test
    Take one betaine hydrochloride supplement before eating, and add more with each meal. If you have low stomach acid, your symptoms will be relieved.
    Symptoms of low stomach acid (low hydrochloric acid):
    • Indigestion
    • Gas
    • Bloating
    • Acid reflux
    • GERD
    Another common problem people experience as they age is called atrophic gastritis.
    Symptoms of atrophic gastritis:
    • Mucosal atrophy
    • Low hydrochloric acid
    • Low B12 or folate
    • Low iron
    • Intolerance of red meat
    • Indigestion
    • Gas
    • Cognitive decline
    • Brittle nails
    • Restless legs
    • Thinning hair
    • Acid reflux
    • Muscle cramps or muscle twitches
    • Rosacea
    • Bad breath
    Common causes of atrophic gastritis:
    1. H. pylori
    What to do:
    • Consume sulforaphane
    2. Low hydrochloric acid
    What to do:
    • Take betaine hydrochloride
    • Take methylcobalamin and methylfolate
    In some cases, you may need to fix the inflammation in your gut before you increase your stomach acid. You can do this by consuming cabbage juice, wheatgrass juice powder with water, zinc, and probiotics. It’s also important to get on a Healthy Keto® diet.
    Thank you Dr Berg! 🐱👍🏿

    Dr. Berg,
    This video is very disappointing. Your video advice is usually of high quality, but you missed the mark here. The stomach HCL acid test with sodium bicarbonate works exactly the opposite of your instructions. The sodium bicarbonate will react with stomach acid to create a chemical reaction that produces carbon dioxide. This will make you burp. So, the more stomach acid you have the MORE the sodium bicarbonate will make you burp.

    MAJOR ERROR RE: BAKING SODA TEST ! You really need to correct this. It's the opposite from what is said in this video. If you burp before 3-5 minutes you have NORMAL (or possibly high) stomach acid. Cleveland Clinic website, naturopathic websites etc etc. Baking soda reacts with acid to form gas. If you have enough (or too much) stomach acid, you will burp before 3-5 minutes. Test should be repeated over 5 mornings.

    In a sufficiently acidic environment, bicarbonate (HCO3-) will dissociate to CO2 (gas - hence the burping) and H2O - water.
    If there is too little acid, the bicarbonate will not dissociate - no (or much less) burping.

I then started on a quest to try to figure out was wrong with me. I took nearly every stomach helpful pill. I finally started taking Betaine before meals. Supplementing ADEK, B12, and Iron and started a slow and steady climb back to health. I found that I cant really eat sugar or it seems to weaken my stomach acid. Same with processed carbohydrates, bread, cakes, cookies. I sometimes wonder if it is also because these items have baking soda which weakens the acid? In any case I thank Dr. Berg for helping. I agree. I have read several articles on this and my understanding is no burp within 3-5 mins (depending on the article you read) means low stomach acid. While a burp would within 3-5 mins would indicate adequate stomach acid. This makes sense when you think what happens when you add baking soda to an acid like vinegar. It releases co2 gas which in your stomach would cause a burp. But if you dont have enough acid in the reaction then not enough co2 to cause the burp.

If you do it between 2 and 5 minutes, normal acid and after 5 minutes very low acid. I made this test and have been using Hydrochloric acid because I burped after 10 minutes. I finally did come across these tests and it was indicative of low acid. I do a tablespoon of ACV twice a day and it helps A LOT. I use the Fairchild's you mentioned in a separate video. Agreed. I just watched his video yesterday about the vagus nerve connection with low stomach acid and how to support it by increasing your intake of thiamine (B1). Already I have noticed a difference, but also plan to up my intake of B12/B9 as well as the cabbage juice/wheat grass juice regimen. I'm into fermented foods and make about 6 or 7 different ones including kefir and sauerkraut, and they're great, too. It does seem that most of us are out of balance due to lack of proper nutrition and it creates a snowball effect of symptoms. Glad we have Dr. Berg's common sense approach to help get us back on track. I'm disgusted with the conventional approach of just treating the symptoms... you never get healthy that way.

    VERY important correction for anyone watching this!!! He has the burping portion backwards. If you have enough stomach acid, you will burp within those 5 minutes. And you are looking for a good size burp. Not just a small one here and there. It is the chemical reaction with the stomach acid that makes you burp. If you don't have enough,you will not have the reaction.

    • @zerrodefex
      @zerrodefex Рік тому

      That burp is carbon dioxide gas being liberated as the sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) reacts with the hydrochloric acid (HCl), the products of the neutralization reaction are water (H2O), salt (NaCl), and carbon dioxide (CO2).

      If you think about it, it's likely impossible to have too much stomach acid because the cells producing the acid will stop at their design ph.
      It is possible to have too much stomach acid in your esophagus because there isn't supposed to be any there.

    • @neilkaufman1809
      @neilkaufman1809 7 місяців тому +4

      You're right, they all say the opposite because that's what the medical universities teach them. I listened to my doctor for 10 years and had too many outbreaks before finding out the truth and experiencing it. Acid reflux is too much food, not enough acid, so the food comes back up the esophagus. The little flapper at the bottom of your esophagus only closes in a high acid environment. It's very rare to have too much acid with the standard American diet. Most including myself, it was indigestion from too little acid.

Eating too much carbs doesnt require the body to produce much stomac acid so the brain shuts the production off or puts it to the minimal levels. Burping after *1 minute* means too much stomach acid
    *1 to 2 minutes* : normal hydrochloric acid
    *2 to 3 minutes* : normal or slightly low hydrochloric acid
    *3 to 5 minutes* : low hydrochloric acid
    *5 minutes or more* : no hydrochloric acid is produced
    If you have not burped within 5 minutes, your test is complete.

    I think you got nr.2 backwards. You burp a lot if you have enough acid, not if you have to little

  • @mikebysouth105
    @mikebysouth105 4 місяці тому +1

    You have the baking soda test the wrong way around. Enough acid causes strong burps. No burps or insufficient burps from low acid. ie. The acid (HCl) reacts to bicarb giving off CO2 which causes burps!

  • @jonmaher2531
    @jonmaher2531 Рік тому +7

    ****IMPORTANT**** I think it's the opposite with the baking soda test! If you add baking soda to your stomach and you have enough acid you will burp pretty quickly. Add baking soda to vinegar in a glass and watch the fizz. Add baking soda to something less acidic and nothing happens. It reasons that with enough stomach acid you will burp quickly. I think you need to correct yourself. Thank you.

      Yes I too think there is some confusion with the baking soda test.

    Have alot of the symptons including ridged fingernails, i suspect low stomach acid but not sure. Tried betaine but gives me a warm feeling after just 1 pill, so i suspect there is inflamation in the stomach. Also tried cabbage juice but that gives me pain and burning don’t know why. Going to try wheatgrass thank you Dr.berg.

    This is crazy. I have been telling doctors about this for 15 years. None of them could explain why I have that tender pain under my left rib.
    Anytime I have indigestion I drink baking soda and water and burp just like your test.
    How is it that the free doctor on UA-cam has all the answers my paid doctors in multiple states are clueless about?

    I have pain/tenderness on the right side of my breastbone/xyphoid. Is this an issue with the liver? I did have my gallbladder removed when I was 13; I’m now 38. Thanks for all your amazing videos and supplements, Dr Berg! 🙏🏻💗
