  • This episode covers some of the major events of Christian and Roman history between about 330 AD until 600 AD. Dave talks about the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the persecution of Paganism, and the steady rise of the Bishop of Rome (who would later hold the title of Pope).

    NOTES:
-Constantinople was built on the location of an older city called Byzantium. Initially, Constantine named the new city “New Rome,” but after his death it was renamed Constantinople, meaning, “City of Constantine.” After the fall of the Western Roman Empire, the Eastern Roman Empire would come to be known as the Byzantine Empire.
-Canon #6 of the Nicene Creed has long been the subject of discussion between Catholics and non-Catholic Christians as it deals with a very important question: Did the Bishop of Rome always have total authority and jurisdiction over the Church and every other bishop of the Church? Interpretations of Canon #6 vary. For example, here is an example of a non-Catholic interpretation: bit.ly/395FYfK. And here is a Catholic interpretation: bit.ly/2HY5QOS. Feel free to come to your own conclusions.
-The First Council of Constantinople named the bishop of Constantinople as the Church’s second most honorable bishop, after the Bishop of Rome, basically for no other reason than the fact that Constantinople was the new center of … everything (Canon #3). But while the Bishop of Rome was probably more influential than any other bishop at this point in history, it’s important to recognize that this canon is not recognizing that the Bishop of Rome has authority over all of Christendom, but that he is simply the most “honorable” bishop. As a side-note: This canon was super-controversial, because it meant that the honor of the bishops of Alexandria/Antioch/Jerusalem was diminished. And, contrary to Constantinople, those cities had played a huge role in the early faith.
-The coming forth of the Bible canon really deserves its own episode, but just as a side-note: The Old Testament canon was more easily decided upon than the New Testament, by virtue of its scriptures having been around for much longer. In terms of the New Testament, the four gospels were accepted more quickly than the other books. It seems the Pauline letters were probably some of the more controversial bits that took a little more time to be accepted fully. It’s hard to say when exactly the Bible was officially canonized, because it was a process that happened over time. This is evident by the fact that the lists of OT/NT books are revisited and affirmed in multiple councils/synods/meetings. Also, different sects of Christianity sometimes came to different conclusions about which books they’d recognize as scriptural.

Love this video this so much! As someone who grew up devoutly Catholic, my priests and CCD teachers never taught about this detailed history. Rather it was focused on how the “heroic Saints” would fight against “heresies” to preserve their agendas in their newly formed church.

Okay Allie, First off; you don’t need to be trolling UA-cam religion videos and coming for people who have different beliefs than your own. I promise, it won’t build your own faith, if that’s what your endgame is.
Secondly; you don’t speak for other people and their experiences. ESPECIALLY others people’s spiritual experiences. That’s between them and their Heavenly Father. So for me, who grew up going to daily mass, praying rosaries, attending discernment retreats etc. I know my faith was strong and I had that relation with my Heavenly Father, His Holy Spirit, and son Jesus Christ. So for you typing and saying that I’m “not devout” is just gross. You don’t know me, you don’t know my story. You can’t speak for me, let alone 1 billion of other Catholics in the world whose faith is on a big spectrum. Catholicism is dear to me, it’s a strong foundation that ultimately allowed me to come to know the true nature of the Godhead. So I guess all I can do is hope for you to do better and find more meaningful ways for you grow in your own faith and find that connection with your Heavenly Father. I’ll pray for you, and hope the same for you to me. Have a wonderful weekend! 😊 🙏🏻

david janbaz Growing up I believed in and prayed to a literal, real, and distinct Heavenly Father, Holy Spirit, and Jesus long before my conversion or knowledge of the fullness of the Gospel. The true identity of the Godhead is one of the many things that drew me this Gospel. Funny how God works that way in allowing us to seek truth. 😉 As a Catholic I was never comfortable with the trinitarian philosophy the church created back in the day, in my heart I knew that wasn’t right. But regardless I adhered to the church’s “created magisterium” as I continued to grow spiritually. It’s not anyone position to speculate other’s faith. I guess all I can do for you is to say the same thing I told that Allie individual; coming for people online and looking for arguments (assuming that’s your agenda) isn’t going to strengthen your own faith. I’d also invite you as a protest-ant to say an earnest prayer to your Heavenly Father and really discern if he’s a real, living God or just an abstract philosophical idea. Have an awesome Friday! 😃 🙏🏻

Mormon leadership actively votes on new doctrine/revelation which is then put up to a sustaining vote before the church body. Mormons are no different in this regard. Christians do not “vote” on new doctrine, but refer back to and reaffirm what is taught in the Bible and the Apostolic tradition. We do NOT accept new teachings or beliefs based on any sort of majority rule.

They discuss the issues, looking at it from every angle and they each pray to get guidance from the Lord. The purpose of this is their desire to follow God’s will. After they have done these things a few more times they then vote.

    • @sarahturner4148
      @sarahturner4148 4 роки тому +2

The bishops deciding to vote a certain way doesn't mean that the scripture is clear on the subject. There are a lot of times in the scriptures where Jesus talks about His Father and the Holy Ghost in a very separate way, i.e. when Christ is baptized and God (who isn't there) sends down the spirit in the form of a dove. That (taken literally), would suggest that they are three separate beings, therefore not subscribing to the trinitarian belief. On the other hand, there are many times that Jesus says that He, God, and the Holy Spirit are one. Taken literally, that would suggest that they are in fact ONE being. So both you @Revert Revertz and you @XYU are correct in pointing out that clearly people interpret the text as supporting trinitarianism, but you are doing this through the lens of your faith. Many faiths interpret the Godhead and the concept of the Trinity differently, and what it really comes down to is what is considered symbolic and what is considered literal. Those who believe in a separate Godhead consider the text saying they are "one" to be symbolic, and the text saying they are separate to be literal. Those who believe in a single Godhead or the Trinity consider the text saying they are "one" to be literal, and the text saying they are separate to be symbolic. It's really simple. That is the decision that was made at this creed- what would be considered literal, and what would be considered symbolic. Kwaku El, a regular guest on Saints Unscripted has a really good video on the Trinity that might shed more light on why this decision is made. You should go check it out! :)

Is Trinitarianism Actually Scriptural? According to Jesus Christ & the Apostles, Trinitarianism is NOT scriptural. According to Trinitarians, Trinitarianism is scriptural.
If you are on Team Jesus Christ & Apostles, you are viewed as Pagan by Mainline Christianity. If you are on Team Trinitarian, you are viewed as Pagan by Biblical Christianity or the closest thing to it.

    • @AndrewRusherLDS
      @AndrewRusherLDS 4 роки тому +1

@XYU The Bible states that Jesus Christ is a man (1 Timothy 2:5), the father of Jesus Christ is God (John 20:17), the head of Christ is God (1 Corinthians 11:3) & the Apostles had one God who is the father of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 8:6).
The Trinitarian view contradicts 1 Timothy 2:5 as it makes Jesus Christ a God-Man. The Trinitarian view contradicts John 20:17 as it makes Jesus Christ a second God which contradicts the Trinitarian claim of believing in one God. The Trinitarian view contradicts 1 Corinthians 11:3 as Jesus Christ would be God & God doesn't have anyone above him. The Trinitarian view contradicts 1 Corinthians 8:6 as it makes the Apostles believe in three Gods (God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Ghost).
The truth is that most Trinitarians believe the Trinity is true not because the Bible says it's true but because the Roman Catholic Church teaches that tradition is above the Bible & Trinitarians are mostly Catholics which includes Protestants.

Yahweh's Pioneers Church is Biblical-Mormon Unitarian so we believe there is one God who is the Father of Jesus Christ & all of creation.

Pastor Andrew Rusher - Yahweh’s Pioneers Church likewise you (as a Mormon) would have to show from scripture that God has disclosed himself as a god from a pantheon of gods, who was not eternally existent from eternity into eternity who was born a man and raised into exaltation by obedience to a set of rites and ordinances just like his god was and so on and so forth.

5:35 Even non-trinitarians will believe at least the Father is uncreated, even Muslims believe God is eternal; LDS members believe all three are created beings. Saying there's an infinity of created Gods ("we just worship these three in our corner of the universe") sounds more like paganism than Christianity, sorry.

Just started RCIA by the way I'm quite obsessed with the church.

Nowhere in the scriptures is it written that God, Jezus a the Holy Ghost are one and the same. Why did Christ say, my Father? Why did the Holy Ghost inspire the apostles after Christ died? Christ said: Father let this cup passe me, on the olive garden?

Christ has the duality, as THE LOGOS. He is both divine AND human. As the human Jesus, He spoke to His father, on earth. Before the Incarnation, He is still part of the Godhead. He IS the Logos. He is the LIVING Word (in the flesh). The Word MADE (into) flesh. He speaks to God the FATHER while as a human man, bc He was born as a fleshly babe to the Virgin Mary. He has two natures: the divine nature, and the human nature. Think Christ and Yeshua.
Some believe that the Holy Spirit is the feminine attribute of the Godhead.

XYU: I’m of the mind that, when faced with a claim that seems to be a unique event (religious claims usually fall into this category, as do most conspiracies, superstitions, and stereotypes) we should begin with a baseline of disbelief, then let reason and evidence guide us toward truth.
In this case, there seems to be as much evidence that Constantine had a vision turning him toward Christianity as there is that Joseph Smith had a vision turning toward starting a restored version of Constantine’s Christianity. The question, to me, is whether there is enough evidence to believe either claim.

WAS CONSTANTINE ACTUALLY A CHRISTIAN? Despite the claims of apostate Christendom, no true Christian has ever believed that Constantine was in any way a true Christian. His whole life course was contrary to the teachings of Jesus. Consider the facts:
▫️Constantine was a Roman Emperor. What was Jesus attitude to such men?
📖 Matthew 20:25-27 - But Jesus called them to him and said: “You know that the rulers of the nations lord it over them and the great men wield authority over them. 26 This must not be the way among you; but whoever wants to become great among you must be your minister, 27 and whoever wants to be first among you must be your slave.
▫️Constantine was a man of the world and a man of political ambition. What was Jesus attitude to such men?
📖 John 18:36 - Jesus answered: “My Kingdom is no part of this world. If my Kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my Kingdom is not from this source.”
▫️ Constantine was a man of violence and war. What was Jesus attitude to such men?
📖 Matthew 26:52 - Then Jesus said to him: “Return your sword to its place, for all those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.
📖Matthew 5:43-44 - “You heard that it was said: ‘You must love your neighbour and hate your enemy.’ 44 However, I say to you: Continue to love your enemies and to pray for those who persecute you,
▫️Constantine mixed christianity with pagan belief in an effort to unify his empire. What was Jesus attitude to such men?
📖 1 Corinthians 10:21 - You cannot be drinking the cup of Jehovah and the cup of demons; you cannot be partaking of “the table of Jehovah” and the table of demons.
▫️Constantine portrayed himself as a god. What was Jesus attitude to such men?
📖 Philippines 2:3 and 5 - Do nothing out of contentiousness or out of egotism, but with humility consider others superior to you. … 5 Keep this mental attitude in you that was also in Christ Jesus, …
📖 Matthew 4:10 - “Go away, Satan! For it is written, ‘It is Jehovah your God you must worship, and it is to him alone you must render sacred service.’”
⁉️ History confirms that Constantine played a pivotal role in the development and promotion of the Trinity doctrine. Does not the fact that such an un-Christ-like man had such a strong influence raise alarm bells about its validity?
