Tips I picked up from using the ATLS over the last week: A technique I use for ATLS work is to not wait for the crate to reach the mech before picking a place to set it. The mech can be moved and rotated while the crate is moving to the stop position. I turn towards the grid and spot the final position of the crate before the crate can block the view. I will also swing back to a new crate on the ship while the captured crate is moving to lock onto the grid, to save time. Crates can be repositioned without bringing it all the way to the mech. Say you want to move the crate to another spot on the grid. Once the pull starts, move the grid lock preview to where you want it and click to start the push. The crate will immediately push to the grid spot. That quick pull & push works to any green icon position, too. Crates can be snap-rotated on the grid with the ATLS, for us OCD idiots. Pulling and then immediately pushing a crate to the same grid spot tends to perform a 90 degree rotation the crate. I really like the concept for the MPUV Tractor, but my gods, why do the CIG designers screw things up like they do? - Why does the machine even have a freakin' Self Destruct? Why is it so easy to reach? - Why is the tractor view on the rear unit so wildly out of focus? - Why does the rear tractor beam not clear the landing gear struts, even when they are folded up? - WHY CAN THE SHIP NOT FLY IN GRAVITY WITH MORE THAN A HALF-FULL CARGO LOAD? It's just painful how the designers mess up basic stuff like those. I really hope they correct the problems. The ship is pretty much unusable as is. I hope they make the ATLS-style tractor beam available for all cargo ship tractors.
@@cpt_foxyloxy You're welcome. I'm all for helping where I can. One important thing I neglected to mention is I found turning off head-tracking while inside the ATLS improves accuracy in placing crates on the grid, particularly when using the mouse scroll wheel to make adjustments.
"I can't see" is also a problem with the ATLS. They need to fix it so you can modify where the box is being held temporarily, or change the camera angle for cargo management. It definitely needs a lot more work.
You can just use the external view and hold F4 and move the camera with the left and right arrow keys to offset it. I switch between the external view I’ve setup (to place a box) and first person (to pickup a box). Works well 🍺
I'm thinking they will limit the ATLS to 16scu boxes at some point. The Tractor will handle the 32's. They may put the snap-load 'mode' on the tractor. On another note; imagine if they put full damage on moving cargo? They may very well do that.
Different tools for different jobs! Have fun getting that walker from ship to ship in space across decent distances, and good luck using the MPUV for regular loading on your ship...
Yeah I was thinking this too. The only “test” worth doing would be a combined operation on a planet surface where the MPUV is ferrying cargo to an ATLS that is putting them in a ship while someone inside fine tunes the grid. Otherwise MPUVs in space; ATLS in hangars. Never the twain shall meet.
What's up Foxy!? I'm loving the ATLS...just a tip - IF you have the eye tracker, you can really get around the issue you had at 03:34 ! Instead of aiming the ATLS where you want to go, aim it slightly off of the location, then turn your head - the crosshair will follow, and you can then easily navigate the box where you want it to go. Made my life immensely easier when running the hauling missions!
Another thing the MPUV has over the ATLS is that eventually you will be able to attach the modular pods to it, making it even more versatile than it already is.
I had the same issues with the boxes not being able to be tractor beamed off the elevator... Had to use the max lift at close range to move them... Made me hate hauling now 🤣😫🤣
You will only run in to this on the self land hangars that have the doors on the wall. If you you the cargo lift by the doors there is a boundary issue with the armastace zone that is preventing use of half the elevator. Use the side that the station elevators are on and you will not have this issue.
we need a Tractor that works like the ATLS except we can choose to either use it like it is right now or switch over to like a traditional Tractor where we can move it around physically instead of placing it in your face while you try to figure out where to place it. I just want a tractor that will allow me to fill up those annoying "spots" in my C2 that I can't due to the objects barely just fitting but because it's rubbing the other boxes or some other surface it's damn near impossible to actually get said containers all the way fitted into the right spot.
9:15 I made an IC report about the poor visibility when using the rear tractor beam on the MPUV-1T a few days ago, but doesn’t seem like it’s gained any traction. I just park my TARGO behind my M2 facing away from the ship and the line of sight is great for the remote beam, but it’s impossible to see where you’re dropping the cargo. Love my ATLS and TARGO. Great little tools, excited for them to become available in-game.
I noticed your Hercules has the collision problem when anything moves around the front ramps. Driving a vehicle there does the same thing. Never did it repeatedly, but it will more than likely cause the ship to explode. That complaint has been on spectrum for over 3 years to my knowledge.
I will keep using the handheld or pay for auto. The atls is a cash grab and I will not support cig marketing with a purchase. To those that did make that purchase it is my hope you do enjoy it.
Really? That is good, the patch note says it can only be called at person hangars. But if they made it to be called on mining stations, that is a good thing. I will test that myself. Thank you for the info
@@cpt_foxyloxy I posted a link to the video but it doesn't work. Then check video title: Star Citizen - Can we actually pirate this patch? and time 1:02:26. He summon it there.
I purchased both and experienced the same issues you did. Sometimes it feels like many CIG developers do very small testing of their work or don't even play the game.
Such an ignorant response... things are incomplete because of priorities shifting... it's an alpha.... whether you like the word or not doesn't change it
1 question: I'm flying a C2 full of cargo, I request landing to deliver, I land... How do I call the ATLAS when my C2 full of cargo is on the hangar landing pad?
I just want to tell everyone that the MPUV and other ships will eventually be able to use similar tractor beams as the ATLS. They mentioned this in the ATLS Q&A. When this happens, small size will be the ATLS's only strength.
That and being a mech. Oh and being able to be used on ships that lack tractor beams but still have large cargo holds. And while I'm at it, you might also need one for sorting cargo. Or handling special cargo. And finally, it is a mech suit.
I was looking at both of these yesterday and thinking how cool it would be if the MPUV could carry a few Atls underneath and drop them, like a mech hot drop, obv need a more robust military version of the ATLS to make it worth it
I’ve tried with both along with the tractors on the Caterpillar. I’ve found the Maxlift is less fiddly and more reliable than all 3. Still some work to do on them. Going out in the Reclaimer over the next few days, going to take the ATLS for moving container and see how it goes. Thanks for the video. See you in the Halo🖖🏼🫡

The tractor not reaching the boxes is a known bug, seems to be an invisible wall. They need to make ship tractor turrets the same as the ATLS
Did the box break it or was the vehicle impounded.
The box caused the explosion

@@ralaxgaming Exactly, might even be able to load MPUVs with the ATLS without them landing tho.
@@Nexovus Oh yeah good point
You know the Atls works better if you use freelook while placing boxes
I’ve learned with the ATLS, when you are trying to place boxes, you can use the mouse wheel to fine tune which grid spot the box goes to.

The MPUV clearly needs the same tractor beam as the ATLS on the front
Is the tldr that the ATLS is better cause it doesn't blow up the ship? XD

I wonder when they implement if a box is close enought to you it turns translucent to fix the ATLS problem.
ATLS is so fast moving boxes.. just wow.
the tractoring bug started yesterday after the latest patch.
Click and place , click and place, click and ...i cant see. That part made me cackle lol

1 question: I'm flying a C2 full of cargo, I request landing to deliver, I land... How do I call the ATLAS when my C2 full of cargo is on the hangar landing pad?
You land the C2 properly and then store it, bring up the Atlas, put it on the side and then call the C2, your cargo should be still in there.
wait what? ATLS can't be called at shrubin pads?
it's making more sense now. ATLS really is a emergency project without thoroughly plan
It can now, don't know when CIG added, but you can call it at shrubin pads

I think ATLS has gotten worse in accuracy and bugginess after they slowed it down
They should of left it alone!

So please show me how you fit an MPUV into the Caterpillar. I never managed to do this but you stated it is possible.
I will try that again.
very useful video!
the bug you had is a hangar bug where invisible walls spawn inside the cargo lift
No wonder, thanks for the info
I tried ATLS with C2 today, it not only having trouble taking cargo from elevator but also won’t grab cargo when you unload.
I had that a few times, had to get out and in the Atls to fix that
@@cpt_foxyloxy I tried getting in and out couple times and still didn’t work. End up using multi tool.
Is there a setting to toggle turret aiming mode between vjoy and mouse? Like gimbal + freelook ?
There is. I think it's called relative/v-joy toggle. Also works with ship controls.

Here is the simple answer.
mpuv is used in space, atls is used on the ground.
I think you just suck at using the atls. I’ve loaded my c2 fully with it and in stacks for a 10contract run
Well good for you, but I think you just suck at everything else.
