These "Life Aboard" vids are gonna get a big upgrade whenever engineering is finally implemented. Possibly even increase the lifespan of the average ship too.
I hope they eventually put the Cat's tractor beam on a rail so it can move along the ship and see into each of the loading bays. That would at least make it useful.
I agree and have expressed this very sentiment in the past. It would make more sense to have an arm move along the top rail so that it can stop above each cargo bay, then unfold / articulate out to move cargo in and out much more efficiently. The tractor beam station is still well placed, but the arm itself needs a better location.
I'm actually afraid it will end up being the exact opposite. I really don't want to have to play a mini game every time I take a ship out to do anything.
Your Life Aboard series convinced me to approach 3.24 in the same way while running cargo. So far, I've kept my Hull A afloat by replacing components rather than using landing services for repairs. I've also steered away from using EVA suits unless absolutely necessary, so I've accumulated a small wardrobe of clothes for different environments. Also, anything I can't physically store on my ship gets left behind, which means I'm only taking what I really need most of the time. My ship's disgusting and it's full of trash but I've never been happier playing SC.
A bit cheeky of them to finally add night vision to something and then hide it as a random drop! I hope we get as a cockpit or helmet function sometime. Like you guys said, it does feel funny that whenever you pick a mission it always seems to be dark where you're going.
I love cargo and love that it's getting more work. The loader debacle isn't great but it doesn't dampen my love for the game. Thanks for the upload, Kate.
Ah yes, the good old trusty caterpillar. I think the only things we missing from it is modulus (like: medbay, armory etc.) imagine the kind of "life aboard" experience it could give us with those aboard.
@@thekaxmaxany signs that these have actually been in development aside from that single clip from like 3 years ago? I’ve also been away from game news a while.
Those npcs were aiming for your arm so well. Getting a Tier 1 arm injury while not getting any other Injuries is really unlucky, especially because you had accuracy based weapons and had to fly a ship.
I still think it's pretty neat that you can struggle to hold things, drive etc from an arm injury. Watching the hand shake trying to use the med just reminded me.
Hi Gravy, congratulations you are the winner of our LTI M50 game package giveaway :) If you drop me an email at citizen_kate@yahoo.com we can arrange delivery of the package - again congratulations and thank you very much for watching :)

I like the Cat overall. Maybe a it could use a redesign though: those catwalks are a bit on the way I think. Maybe we'll get something like that when the ramps can finally go down all the way, or when we get a detachable command module...
I swear that I experience that same "all the distro centre missions are at night time" thing too. Then I looked where they are, and they're all within a 1000km radius of each other so I guess that makes sense.
Great stuff, the game is certainly coming along. Good luck getting one of those scopes. It will be epic when we can get an overlay in our ship HUD for night ops.
I had also found one of the night vision scopes on a 12K investigation contract, so they are out there! (and they do help in the dark!) Enjoy the videos! Good stuff - 'nuff said.
Great job ,this was very cool to watch you guys make these runs and show all the little details you dealt with and the glitches,to have civilian friendlies and local security made this so much more realistic with the fear of a crimestat, now I know also how difficult it will be to find a night vision scope to lol. this all looks so amazing.Word of advice put a medivac rover into your ship for spawning and healing, just a thought.See you guys in the verse, keep these coming thank you.
There is simply no other game that offers this sort of gameplay. Lots of bugs and issues to be worked out, but it is simply amazing. I look forward to watching more Life Aboard episodes for years to come.
Cat needs to get a medical module! Honestly that's one of the things I'm most excited for, chop shop caterpillar and other modules, oh and the side cargo doors lowering to the ground. Nice to see it getting put to good use.
Great content as usual. Looking forward to your presentation of ideas and gameplay for 4.0 and beyond. Thank you and your team for all you do to inform and entertain our community.
its refreshing to see you post these with the usual SC warts and issues we all endure in the game! Great content - thank you for all the mission and quest ideas. Would love to see you do some content as a 'solo' player as well!
Love the way the Cat's landing gear deploys. I mean, they could have simply had them all deploy simultaneously, but the choice to delay each set of legs by a half a second adds so much to the 'caterpillar' effect. Details.
Obviously the ATLS will get more stuff eventually but I think the backlash would be a lot less if they had some of that ready because 35$ warbond is a lot for a tier 3 tractor beam that cripples your legs.
A white Caterpillar was a weird sight at first, but throughout the video it definitely looked better and better. The Cat is definitely in a dire need of an overhaul, especially now with Cargo being more and more relevant.
Love your content, its super chill, fun and welcoming. Thanks for giving the Caterpillar some screentime, a lot of other content creators don't show it much 😞
I remember the cat being my first real experience with large ships. There's something oddly comforting about larger ships that feel like they have real weight behind them.
With the introduction of the ATLS i am pretty sure we will get Combat mechs at some point. Now imagine an Army of Combat mechs jumping from the Caterpillars Holds. Would make a good Movie scene :D
I wonder if we gonna get bigger mechs in the future now. They could very well design planets with very high gravity. Where ships are not usefull on long term for fight cause the fuel usage to much and overheat of thrusters. There you either need mech or other land vehicles. This would open up whole possibility of other gameplay.
The Cat will be even better once or if we get the elevators for each cargo module and ofc the modularity and dockable bridge. So still quite a way to go for this ship it seems
I love these "life aboard" style videos, they highlight pretty much exactly what I want from a space game. It helps that the Caterpillar is my favorite ship, too! At least aesthetically, since I don't actually play the game yet...haha
Me and an org buddy loaded up his caterpillar with 300 SCU of distilled spirits yesterday. However. He neglected to tell me he had bought them in 1 SCU crates.. Needless to say our ATLS's came in clutch and now i want a caterpillar - that thing made loading easy.
no matter what you have 300X1scu is crazy amount 😂 anyway, i really want atls. but i just can't pay 40 for it. poor people need to choose where they put their money 😔 even 20 i would think twice but prob still would buy 😅
Ships do have internal inventory. You have to acces it via set location on the ship. On the Vulture for example it's under the bed or the hull a has a cupboard that says storage on it
yay another Life Aboard series :) two things i noticed with the new hangars, the Hangar owner must be the one to request leaving, regardless of players being in party, otherwise the system thinks you are wanting to land (this is probably the same bug left over from before 3.24), similarly with requesting to land, the owner of the hangar you want to land in must be the one to request landing, ship owner is irrelevant, which i think is the right way, you might be helping another player with your bigger ship.
Finally the Caterpillar Episode I was waiting for! I tried this out solo (no ATLS) and it made me realise it needs work, and a ton of door fixes... xD Hopefully the caterpillar rework comes with a working bench, suite lockers etc and food storage that isn't a box lol
Love these "Life Aboard" series. I plan on many long term exploration voyages when they drop, so long term ship living is gonna be interesting. Really enjoy the series so far as a window into what that might entail, and seeing how its evolved over the years. Keep up the good work commander!
It's not like the ATLS is any more expensive than the MULE, it is however a lot more useful (still waiting for those cat doors to act as elevators and the mules "forklift" to actually work...). In the end all ground vehicles are pretty expensive compared to what they cost in-game (or how useful they are in general) but hey; cheap-ish LTI tokens for the CCU-game... Cat is just about the only multicrew ship with sensible turret placement. I've earned my pirate-aggressor badge every year but can't really justify plonking down credits for the pirate edition catepillar. If it was an exclusive paint (to those who have the badge) I would buy it and then get the cat in-game. I would like to see the classic skull and crossbones paint for cutty adapted for other ships too. Anyway keep up the good work, the "life aboard" series is my favourite in addition to the Science!
I really like the cargo mech. It instantly reminded me of the prawn suit from district 9 when its idle and I love it haha! Also it seems I really need to head back into 3.24, it looks like it has so much more fun to it now.
I have a Cat, and it has been fun to use..... growing on me with every day, but it will be gone when the Ironclad comes as it is its loaner.... i`m sooo looking forward for the release of those amazing ships!!..... One isolated thought..... can you imagine what the mule would be with one or two of the ATLS tractor beams on it?..... it would be the most versatile cargo vehicle ingame.... forget that fork thing and that 1scu "cargo bay".... equip it with ATLS tractor beams and it will be the king of cargo vehicles. As always, loving your channel.
Love the cinematic shots while flying and the Cat with white livery looks so good. Can’t wait for the modularity and the working cargo elevators plus the detachable cockpit.
I love the Cat, it was the first big ship I ever flew. In my first couple of days of playing. Always nice to see you guys flying it around. The first compartment door not opening could be a bug. I had this when looting a Cat while I was doing Blockade Runner, I had assumed that it was just because I had damaged it in the fight, but perhaps not.
Something the cat could sure use are bigger doors between sections, access to the upper walkway(?) and/or some other way for an ATLS to walk from section to section!
Something to consider at the Distribution Centers is to pick up a mission to run cargo to/from them. That way when you leave the mission area you won't be trespassing.

the cat is in dire need of those hydraulic cargo lifts
She is like so many ships ( dare I say freelancers ) in need of her gold pass.
Screw that noise. The Carrack needs to have access to its cargo, period, first.
yeap, she a tedious one to fill.

It was my understanding that the tractor beam was on a detachable section that would fly around as needed.
Honestly miss big clunky ships being around so much, once 4.0 comes out with engineering i feel it will breathe new life into them
Yes, if they don't malfunction every three minutes because of 'mah engineering' gameplay
